Thank you so much for this. I have my first Arrma 6S Notorious and I am pulling my diffs apart for service for the first time. Your video is very detailed and helpful. I made a couple of mistakes the first time but I could tell something was wrong by the feel of it. I think I messed up the cross pins for the spider gears because the slider things that hold them and the gears are not down flush with the top of the cup. I'll rebuild it tonight again completely and try to get it right. I don't have shims for behind the spider gears yet, I may have to run to my LHS to find some.
Just pulled the first of my diffs apart and the little pin that the crown wheel sits over are both snapped in half. I've only had the V4 for 2 weeks. Rest of the diff looks fine.
Just placed order with modelsport for diff oils and shims plus some other parts including fastrax servo mounts for my 3 Arrma 6s models. I've never removed a diff from the car before so wish me luck.
Hi. Fantastic and informative video! I’ve just got a brand new Kraton 6s V4 after a few years out of the rc car world. Am I right in saying I need to do this to my as yet unused new Kraton? I’ve ordered all the diff oils and shims from your links, but can’t seem to find the link for the 16/13 shims? Darren.
Hello, very good choice of truck you won't be disappointed. I would advise doing the shimming first but some would say not to worry. I'd rather do it and save the money in the long run. All the shims should be linked below the videos. The 13x16x0.2mm ones are very common rc shims. Try searching for them as I have written above on ebay you should find loads
Hi thanks for the great tutorial. Were you using the same shims on the outside of the diff as on the inside. I have an outcast and I would like to shim the bearings as you did but im not sure on sizing. Many thanks
Also do you have the sizes or indeed a link to the little pins that locate the larger gears as I am really struggling to find them, thanks in anticipation.
The sizes and a link are in the description, sorry I cant remember the size off the top of my head. The ones on the outside come with the V4 they are part number ara709057. on my channel is another video for shimming the diffs into the housing, that also has a link to them ones, I also suggest a third video for shimming the pinion that's on my channel. I have shimmed all three places and they have been really good since. The pins I believe are part number ar310440
Will this tutorial work for a normal kraton v4 6s? On one of your videos you shim the internal gear with 8 13x16x.02 shims and the video is labeled for a exb kraton. This one is just v4 6s but no exb in your title.
Yes this is for the standard V4 not the exb. You still need to shim the pinion and the diff into the housing though. Both those videos are on the channel😁😁👍👍
@@withlinbarhm1627 I would always check and top up the duffs with oil. But it is up to you, a little time now to check is worth it when your out running it
How can I tell if my inner satellite gears need xtra shims.. I was running stock gears and snapped both lil pins and shattered a satellite gear so I upgraded to arrma aluminum diff cup its got 1 shim each side and 2 outer diff shims.. any advice cuz im already getting a coggy diff gear noise again..
When you put them together, put it together with no oil then grab each drive cup in each hand and wiggle them back and forth if you can feel play it needs shims. I often shim until it locks up then go back a shim. Once you have it right put oil in then good to go

Perfect timing:) just got my Kraton 6s a couple of weeks ago så plan on doing the diff. quick question: when shimming, how do you know when you added enough? or do you just add until no more will fit?
You need to make sure there is a little play but not much, it's all by feel I know that's not an exact science sorry. A good way of testing it is to put them together dry and check for play you should feel a little, if you have no play it will cause more problems when they get hot and expand.
Is that the small one on the outdrive shaft? That is there to remove the play behind the small pin inside the diff. If its loose it can cause it to brake

Watched this vid when v5 is the latest model. Is this the same case as for the v5? Diff issue still? New sub 💯

So on the v4 you do not need to add anymore shims to the main gear into the crownwell? On the exb you need to shim it. Thanks for the reply’s!
memen use on the V4 ypu need to add shims behind the crown wheel. Both of them you do need to
Do you know about the v5. I’m going to get a kraton. I was gonna get another e revo but I want something different.
The v5 is a good truck you won't be disappointed
Will it need to be shimmed as well?

Most people add either 2 or 4, 1 on each pun or 2 on each pin.
Don’t they have a tool where you can measure the spacing ?
How do you find the 60/500/30 fluid? I do a mixture of bashing, track and open field running?
Perfect for all of the above, I love it with that combo, good handling and great speed
