Why didn't the Mazda Miata (MX-5) make it on your list? Soft top or the RF. What a great car. It has been on there every year, since last year and this year.
@BDA because the internet has never blown an issue out of proportion. The reality is it does look to be the RTV issue that's blowing engines. It seems to be an issue with the sump in general. Adding a baffle to the oil pan is the solution. So far, it seems most engines fail due to oil starvation during extremely hard cornering. Hence why the baffled oil pan is the actual solution. Obviously, you should remove the debris from the pickup tube while you're in there though. Leaving the Elantra N out was a bit of a head scratcher. Beat out the Si and GLI when it won your own comparison test. It’s also faster than the GR if it has the DCT- and still faster around a track w the 6 sp. Even before markups you’re paying 12k more for a similarly equipped GR. Hyundai definitely deserved a spot with the EN
Agreed. I am 73 and not in the Elantra N's demographic. My Nephew however just recently bought one and he let me drive it. I was impressed with the car and this is from a guy that has 2006 Z4 M Coupe as a weekend car. The N vehicles are special even if derived from econocar roots. So was the Subaru WRX STI.
@@smokesgtp I understand but everyone has their own taste. The last generation of the Honda Civic Type R was also criticized for being over the top in style excess but still sold all that were produced. Color has a big effect on the style of the cars.
@@doctorrobert60 Yeah, Hyundai's just are not regarded like Honda or Toyota yet. They dont drive quite as well, they don't hold value as well, and still too many recalls. I drove a Sonata N and a 2.0T Accord and it was an easy decision. The Honda was just a better put together overall package.

All great choices by C/D, only missed the Porsche 992 GT3 and GT4RS, the Hyundai pocket rockets Elantra N and Kona N. And the still ongoing Alpha platform great handling 6th gen Camaro SS, SS1LE and ZL1.
I’m a diehard Honda fan, but the 11th gen accord is a dud! I own a 2019 accord 2.0t, and ditching that motor for a underpowered hybrid was a mistake. Also the exterior styling is bland at best! As a person who has own a Honda for 30 years and 4 accords…I won’t be trading for this gen!! The civic deserved it tho
I'm not surprised at the lack of an Elantra N, Car and Driver HAS to find a way to include the Civic and Accord and 3-Series every single year. Throw in the requisite overpriced Porsche and and a few unicorns, and you run out of slots pretty quickly. The Elantra provides 99% of the performance of the Type R and beats the Corolla, for at least $25K less than the real-world prices of the other two. At least they included the Toyburu, an amazing chassis that punches above its meager HP.
Yep it's a pretty awesome Toyota sponsored tuning house, their tuner version of the BMW Z4 would be my favorite if it weren't for the ugly body kit they put on it.
I mean if supra is offered at 45k I would gladly take it, at the end of the day I don't care if the interior is made of rich material or cheap plastic. This is one thing the fanboys don't care and they just still sell it to us anyway.
I did hear them say that but they didn’t say which BMW - a rebadged 3 series, 2 series, etc.? And why isn’t that original on the list but it’s the rebadged product?
So many manuals this year making the list. I think most folks know most enthusiasts have come to realize what they're missing. And auto companies have become better at making manual transmissions people can live with on the road.
I think the BMW M240i is a much better version of the Toyota Supra. It comes in RWD and AWD so you can drive in comfortably in northern climates. It has a back seat and a larger boot. It even has a much nicer interior. The only thing it lacks is that manual transmission but xDrive is so brilliant you don't miss it.
😎 What's funny is I'm watching this and realize I own 3 cars ,that run great and each get driven everyday that cost me a total of less than $ 9,000 for all three . Isn't getting from point A to point B , The important point anymore ? 🤔
General Motors has four of the ten best. Clear and away proof nobody has better and a more performance packed portfolio of cars than them. Not even including the Camaro range.
OK, how much did honda pay to get the new accord on this list . the new accord is slower and in my opinion, doesn't look as good as the last gen , not to mention car and driver haven't even released a proper test on this new accord.
Dealer markups are the reason I can’t buy any of these cars. Dealers are killing the enthusiast cars, NOT the consumer. I hope these models can survive the chopping block until the prices come back to MSRP.
Well I don’t know if you’ve noticed but quite a few Kia/Hyundais have needed to phone a friend on that warranty. Not sure how convenient that warranty is if you have to use it for anew engines…..

Did you drive the Accord with 5 people in it up a large hill? The constant CVT noise would be terrible. The engine is week. The styling is bland. No way the Accord should be on this list. My 2019 Accord 2.0T was a lot better. Car and Driver "Another complaint that drivers tend to make about a CVT is the loud droning sound that occurs during acceleration. This happens because the CVT forces the engine to continuously run a constantly high rpm as it gets up to speed. As Car Engineer explains, the general public has been less accepting of the CVT due to the difference in noise perception from mechanical or step automatic transmission. "
The Beemer, Accord (not even on sale and where is the fun engine?), and the GR Corolla (excellent car but awful value compared to the Hyundai N) all make me raise my eyebrows this year. Glad VW doesn’t make it this year - they should feel shame for what they did to the MK8.

The GR 86 should never be Turbo charged, nothing beats the purity of N/A cars, and if you want a Turbo 86 that's literally why the Toyota Supra exists whether you want it in I6 or I4 form, because the 86 is the pure sports car, the Supra is the fast one!
Agreed!!
I always say the 2.0 Supra is just an 86 with a turbo, more horsepower and an automatic that’s actually worth a damn.
Or it could have a 6 cylinders NA
It needs something. It's boring
@@michaelserrano9334 Definitely!
Hmmm 2 out of ten in the stable albeit prior year variants. Wish I could try the Corolla…never thought that I would say that of a Corolla 😂
Top 1 & 3 spots are the product of partnerships! Maybe this is a good omen for 2023.
From where did you glean this incorrect information?
@@sunrisesunset1734 Oh yeah, #2 was the Corolla, right? #3 is the BRZ/GR86. I have a BRZ on order so I accidentally inflated the ranking lol
@@hardchemist Lol, congrats. I prefer the Corolla because of AWD and the option to dial in power distribution to front or rear, mainly because you can drive like a lunatic on any surface, tarmac gravel and snow!
@@sunrisesunset1734 I know, and that sounds very cool, but there's just something about having at least one RWD sports car in your life. I'm down in FL so this is probably all the traction needed :)
@@hardchemist agreed, donuts make dozens lol
This list reminds me of why I always preferred Motor Trend.
My sentiments exactly. Such a typical C&D list choosing sponsoring manufacturers. Not a very objective process IMO
Although I enjoy Car and Driver this top 10 list is basically vehicles that the average consumer could not afford which is sad. Most of the vehicles in this list are over $45,000. Basically if you're not making $100,000 a year you're not driving or owning any of these cars maybe you should do a separate segment for everyday drivers
New Accord looks like those old Taurus's, kind like my cousin's 2014 Sho.
It looks like Jaguar XK, Audi A7, a little bit of Volkswagen Passat. Boring and bland! Where is Taurus 2014?
First thing i thought when i saw it was that it looked like the Taurus.
@@d.block3148 🤯
Will the EV charge at 5* F? Or will you be waiting for the battery to warm up; which at 5* it will not do!
The front seats in the two Supras i owned in the 1980’s were the best I’ve sat in….by far. They also had 150 hp……
I have my eye on the CT5 Blackwing to replace my Panamera. I love my Panamera, but that 682 HP Blackwing just looks amazing.
Winter tires makes a corvette Ok in winter? Maybe in Florida.
i'll take one of each
Leaving the Elantra N out was a bit of a head scratcher.
The styling is too polarizing
@@smokesgtp I mean… so is the carollas lol. I like them both but I think the EN is the better looking of the two
@@smokesgtp I understand but everyone has their own taste.
Great walk around Thank you
Didn't see a camaro had 3 since 2016 started with a ss than a 2020 zl1 and since I heard it's going away I traded it for a 2023 zl1 convertible and no I'm not a chevy fan boy I own a escape and just recently sold wife's explorer for a telluride and I most say kia did a awesome job
So no elantra N ?
Sorry Hyundai and kia
Lucky for me, since shorter wait.
@Navy Patriot101 I still don't know how peeps spend 50k on their trash Genesis lineup
I want to like that i4 but those grilles are too much.
All great choices by C/D, only missed the Porsche 992 GT3 and GT4RS, the Hyundai pocket rockets Elantra N and Kona N. And the still ongoing Alpha platform great handling 6th gen Camaro SS, SS1LE and ZL1.
Remember the price cap…
Love the shoe booties during the Corolla review😂
Thank you! And, it's criminal to not showcase that Cadillac V8!
I dunno. The C8 can be squirrelly at the limit. Design flaw?
I’m a diehard Honda fan, but the 11th gen accord is a dud! I own a 2019 accord 2.0t, and ditching that motor for a underpowered hybrid was a mistake. Also the exterior styling is bland at best! As a person who has own a Honda for 30 years and 4 accords…I won’t be trading for this gen!! The civic deserved it tho
get a BMW
Agreed….new Accord is a step down….no longer something I would buy
I prefer the previous X gen designs on the Accord and Civic, and now made it worst by looking very bland and no 2.0T availability
Totally agree.. My fav was the 10th gen look wise inside and out! Powertrain def better as well.
Presumably, coming from a C & D review I assume the Accord drives and handles exceptionally well.
What about the Yugo 55? Very nice car,my father ownes one.
What year
GM has 3 cars on the list...kudos to them.
How dare they? I can't wait for the Japanese and German-car fanbois to respond with their usual condescension.
Wheres the delta 88
Wow, awesome summary!
The Elantra N is a great performing sport car, but saddly very ugly, the base Elantra looks better.
Gazoo owns three spots, amazing... congratulations to that team.
Gazoo is such a ridiculously stupid name.
Yep it's a pretty awesome Toyota sponsored tuning house, their tuner version of the BMW Z4 would be my favorite if it weren't for the ugly body kit they put on it.
The Accord isn't on sale yet, pricing hasn't been released, and isn't that part of the judging?
These are Car and Driver representatives, dont you trust their capability of driving these vehicles before the public. Its their job.

I mean if supra is offered at 45k I would gladly take it, at the end of the day I don't care if the interior is made of rich material or cheap plastic. This is one thing the fanboys don't care and they just still sell it to us anyway.
Corvette all the way C7 or
C8 are best for the money
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice to see BMW on this list twice. A great return to form for the roundel from Munich
I only saw one BMW on the list. Where was the second?
@@mbojilov1 The Supra is a rebadged BMW
I did hear them say that but they didn’t say which BMW - a rebadged 3 series, 2 series, etc.? And why isn’t that original on the list but it’s the rebadged product?
So many manuals this year making the list. I think most folks know most enthusiasts have come to realize what they're missing. And auto companies have become better at making manual transmissions people can live with on the road.
As much as those Corollas are being marked up to, I'd rather take the better performing and better looking CT4-V Blackwing.
Very informative and great video!👑
I think the BMW M240i is a much better version of the Toyota Supra. It comes in RWD and AWD so you can drive in comfortably in northern climates. It has a back seat and a larger boot. It even has a much nicer interior. The only thing it lacks is that manual transmission but xDrive is so brilliant you don't miss it.
😎
What's funny is I'm watching this and realize I own 3 cars ,that run great and each get driven everyday that cost me a total of less than $ 9,000 for all three .
Isn't getting from point A to point B ,
The important point anymore ?
🤔
Lago is the best in the industry for video content on cars
General Motors has four of the ten best. Clear and away proof nobody has better and a more performance packed portfolio of cars than them. Not even including the Camaro range.
3 of 10. ☝️
OK, how much did honda pay to get the new accord on this list . the new accord is slower and in my opinion, doesn't look as good as the last gen , not to mention car and driver haven't even released a proper test on this new accord.
Anyone know where they were driving for the majority of the on-road shots? Those canopy roads look familiar
I’d leave the accord or Civic out and put in the BMW M240i. I can’t believe it didn’t make the cut.
Dealer markups are the reason I can’t buy any of these cars. Dealers are killing the enthusiast cars, NOT the consumer. I hope these models can survive the chopping block until the prices come back to MSRP.
Should’ve included a genesis due to looks, value and that 100,000 mile warranty. None of these cars include that warranty.
Well I don’t know if you’ve noticed but quite a few Kia/Hyundais have needed to phone a friend on that warranty. Not sure how convenient that warranty is if you have to use it for anew engines…..
They need that warranty because otherwise the car is not going to sell. And based on the brands sketchy track record, that warranty will be well utilized
@@lancemannion4113 at 15k miles and all good. My wife’s Toyota only had 36,000 mile warranty and we were quoted $6,000 for a repair on the service right after warranty expired.

How about The 10 Best ...... of Average longevity and reliability ..... How about a New 10 Best for Longevity and reliability ........... With all the Electronics put into New Cars , I want a 10 year 100,000 miles warranty on these Electronics besides the Engine.
Yes 100% correct ...........
Yes the 10th gen is better with the 2.0T
The Beemer, Accord (not even on sale and where is the fun engine?), and the GR Corolla (excellent car but awful value compared to the Hyundai N) all make me raise my eyebrows this year. Glad VW doesn’t make it this year - they should feel shame for what they did to the MK8.
718 FTW whoa checkout that Vette
A BMW M Roadster from 2000 is far superior to the new straight 6 Toyota Supra, cheaper and better.
I rule out all Cads, as I can't afford one. Anything over $50,000, is too much for me. Repair shop specials, BMW, are too much for me to repair. If GM spent as much time and money on their lower priced vehicles all would be great! However, !!!. I'll keep my 2021 Accord 2T, thank you! For all you oldsters, there is always a Toyota for you. Electrics are right around the corner. I see big changes in the air.
nice reporting Carlos
Some of the dealer markups on some of these cars kill them. 20k upsell for Civic Type R is silly.
Toyota...I'm impressed. Keep making fun gas powered cars.
Also a little confused how the IONIQ 5 is not on this list when it won EV of the year from C&D, especially over the far pricier BMW.
It’s considered an SUV
