My dad is a marine biologist who works at FIU. I lived and worked with the team there for a few years and I can assure you that every single one of them loves fish and aquatic life with a passion and a drive for conservation that has gone unmatched. Unfortunately, not many other people realize the importance of aquatic life ecosystems, but that doesn't stop them from researching and exploring ways to help our fishy friends. I'm extremely familiar with the sonar machine y'all are using there, too - one of the lovely humans I had the pleasure and honor of assisting and watching work was a sonar specialist who creates systems and machines, including building a drone controlled by a PS4 controller, to identify and count the fishes below.
I nearly stepped on a three footer in the red river of Texas and its escape from me nearly soaked me completely. They're not dangerous, they are a beautiful and vital part of our ecosystem that needs appreciation and respect!
@@iudexe3103 what really happens is a combination of the fish calming down and being worn out from trying to escape the net. Like many cold blooded animals, it takes them a while to recover after prolonged exertion.

Reguardless, I'm happy to say he hasn't bow fished in 20 years). I remember being facinated by the way it looked and moved. I got a close up view a couple years ago while swimming. One let me stand only a couple feet from it in the water. The water was clear enough I could clearly identify it as a spotted gar. It was only about 18-24in long and absolute beautiful.

He was a guy who loved the ecosystem of our small pond slew and the river across the road that would sometimes drain into the small lake. He drop net fished much like you see done here in the video for catfish and crappie in the river. Sometimes snapping turtles and gator gars would be netted up and they were always carefully cut free and released in the river. The slew being what it was would sometimes get a gar or two but if they ate too much or the water got low they weren't able to escape. Theyd eat everything they could until they ate everything and then die unable to nourish their new huge bodies. My uncle defended the gar from people who made myths that they attack people or the worse myth, that they'd actively snatch any small animal or child from the shore, which they don't. He said they'll never even bite a person on purpose. I don't know if it was wrong or right to shoot gars with guns, but he wasn't hateful towards the animal at all and respected and appreciated them for the beautiful animal they were. He told me not to hate the turtles either but he did warn me quite sure, they hate us. Turtles and beavers both have no love or tolerance for humans and are never to be bothered cause they don't want to have anything to do with us but they will defend their personal space if they feel threatened.

Bow fishing honestly sounds fun, if only because I enjoy archery and I enjoy fishing, but preserving nature is supremely important. I definitely want stronger regulations.
There are limits on gator gar now in the state of Texas. What they need to do is let everyone go crazy on Asian carp, the destroy ecosystems unlike any other invasive fish seen.
I always feel like a nerd when I see these fish and I'm like "Oh yeah! From Animal Crossing!" But maybe it's a good think that Animal Crossing teaches its players about wildlife.

They are seriously so cute. No animal’s life should be just a “sport”, that is a living being 😭
lololololol THATS NOT CUTEEE
I think it's cool but not cute but beautiful instead.your right tho it's not right to kill animals especially endangered ones for your entertainment
@@thedestroyerbird4930 trust me they are better off dead.
N o. It's not cute. It's mAjEsTiC
Fishing is fine dude. Fishing endangered species? Not fine dude.
This man is a legend idc
Agreed
Bow fishing honestly sounds fun, if only because I enjoy archery and I enjoy fishing, but preserving nature is supremely important. I definitely want stronger regulations.
There are limits on gator gar now in the state of Texas. What they need to do is let everyone go crazy on Asian carp, the destroy ecosystems unlike any other invasive fish seen.
It is a lot of fun.
It's a great way to fish if u intend to eat ur catches. The people who just put an arrow thru them and toss them to the side are the problem
My daughter loves Snakes, shark's, and dinosaurs 🦕. She watched your videos and wants to go on a adventure, her name is Amia.
That snoot boop made my morning. So lovely!
At the beginning I was expecting to hear Jeremy wade for some reason.
Lol
Me: *Looks at the Gar and how beautiful it is*
Me: *Realizes that the Gargantuan Leviathan Mod is coming soon to Subnautica*

Subnautica is such a good game

When coyote said that River Monsters is one of his all time favorites, I got so happy because I also love River Monsters.
Gar Are Cool I Want Them To Keep Living On This Planet.
I always feel like a nerd when I see these fish and I'm like "Oh yeah! From Animal Crossing!"
But maybe it's a good think that Animal Crossing teaches its players about wildlife.

Coyote: Meet the alligator gar
Alligator gar: *spits out water*
Gars and arapaima are two of my favorite fish! Magnificent long chonky bodies. Ancient monsters. ♥
Caught a long nose gar with my hands last week. With my son, took photos and let it go. Now I do more research as it was so unique an experience. Good video.
This is one of the reasons why I watch Brave Wilderness...
Same
Is this a reupload? I swear I’ve seen this before! Also, I’m glad Coyote is sharing this conservation program with the world. Gars need to be saved!
4:18 that was a sick shot.
7:36 ITS SO CUTE
Thank you for this, Coyote and crew. I'm not a huge fan of anything that flops when out of water... its not a phobia it just makes me uncomfortable. With that being said, I am somewhat fascinated by river monsters and I first learned about this species from Jeremy Wade. This video has really opened my eyes to an issue that I really had no clue about. While you won't ever catch me handling a fish, I'm all about spreading awareness and learning more on how to help these incredible animals. Thank you again!
Well Hello there! It's been a while but I take it you've had a great Christmas and New Year's Day.
Eeeey lets go dutch people!! 🇳🇱
The Fish Whisperer on youtube is growing his own Gar and has made two lakes for them for when they grow big enough :)
