I love how you appreciate and respect these creatures also Okada is amazing. God bless this giant Salamander.
Japan has such a high life expectancy that even its animals can live for so long. What a blessed country.
Unless you are a whale or dolphin
Hell no, the country are so depressing if you live here.
Too many suicide cases especially in bigger district.
Young people are in trouble because life expectancy is too long…
Everything in Japan lasts forever: their animals, their people, their cars, you name it. You can meet a 110 year old man, a salamander of the same age, and buy a Lexus with over 300K miles (about 480K km) on it in the same day there.
Life expectancy so high Cause no one making babies
Also Everyone is killing themselves
You can tell it's a Japanese Salamander, it got into the net so politely.
@Don't call me Asian Haha! You guys are awesome of course!
the Chinese giant is actually very aggressive compared to the Japanese, they attack humans and bite whilst the Japanese one's are more chill and just try and avoid.
SyberNight let the nice compliment live jesus
Absql i let them have the compliment he just said the Chinese are more aggressive than the Japanese while its the opposite looking at history.
@@beni5149 Probably a bred response, unlike the Japanese species the Chinese salamander is actively harvested for folk medicine, so friendly individuals would have died out while aggressive ones could fend off hunters and pass on the behavior, although this is just wild conjecture on my part.

I can really tell Dr. Okada really takes such good and attentive care of these animals. That salamander was so calm the entire time, it never panicked or lashed out defensively, even despite the fact that it was once hurt by people accidentally. It knew it was safe and didn't seem stressed in the slightest. The littler ones seemed to be very similar in behavior! It's good to know that such a magnificent and potentially vulnerable creature is so well looked after and respected.
So freaking wholesome. So much respect for this and all animals...

salamanders are very passive, they almost never act agressively. They usually just run away, unless they're eating.

@@Russeroo They voluntarily go into the concrete tubes. They feel safe in there. In the wild they usually stay between the rocks. It's a nice shelter and they won't notice a difference between a natural river or an artificial pond, it is much safer and water quality is well controlled (they are very sensitive to water pollution). Seriously the research facility wants to PROTECT this vulnerable species.

The Chinese giant salamander is the largest species, and their average is smaller than this 5 foot one in Japan.
The Chinese giant salamander is the largest living amphibian and critically endangered and will probably go extinct where as the Japanese giant salamander is the second largest living amphibian an it is near threatened but its populations are increasing. The Chinese giant salamander is only slightly larger than the Japanese one.

I sought out this salamander and found your video because I found what I believe to be several young ones, living in the water near my house. I bought an old Japanese kominka style house in Hiroshima Prefecture's countryside last Christmas. Since then, I have found quite an assortment of interesting things -- just like being on a treasure hunt. Most recently, I found a WWII officer's katana and discovered these little salamanders living in some water in front of my house, which is always there whether there is rain or not. Currently, a friend's mom, who works at Hiroshima university, is going to show my video of these critters to the science department to find out if they really are the unique Osan Sho uo. If they are, then I am concerned for their safety as they are exposed in their current location, and will take steps to have them properly relocated. Very exciting stuff!
So, the big question is, were they young Japanese giant salamanders?
I’m curious as well
