I usually don't do this but...
For all those saying this solo is not flashy and the tone is 'woody' or dull and nice solo 'for the 80s etc...
First, that's a microcosm that reflects the instantaneous short attention environment of today and TH-cam frequently.
This solo is so complex that it takes listening to 5 or more times to understand the multiple approaches that happen inside it. In other words, you can't "get" all of it in one take. It's not your typical canned 2 times around or 32 bar studio solo. It was built on the spot, in the moment, for the moment.
Lastly all great bass playing is not flash n dash and a billion notes.
Example: Marcus Miller's solo on "Friends and Strangers" from the Dave Grusin's Mountain Dance album.
Playin' bass for 45 of my 56 years here rant over.

Agree 1000%. Thr harmonic content and rhythmic variations are master class. Lindley Marthe is the only one that comes to mind who could come close to doing this.

The bass solo is so great. There are so many cool ideas, all of which are articulated well and lead gracefully into the next. Coming up with solos like that on the spot is HARD, and Anthony does it all without ever sounding like he's trying to steal the show. He starts off unassuming, but gradually builds the intensity while 'recalibrating' the audience's ear to the lower dynamic of the bass (you'll notice that the other musicians pay more attention to him than the other soloists, even though he's the quietest). Few musicians have the patience to play like that nowadays, but it's such a wonderful stylistic approach.

Anthonys Bass playing is just Wonderful here, and so Refreshing to hear compared to many of todays bassists, who often overplay a lot!
This is Real Bass Playing, based on Groove and Feel, and Not on technique alone!
    Not many could do this!

Totally showing off only feel and no technique at all. No reading ability, no nothing. This is neither refreshing nor not overplayed. It's as cramped and beautiful as most of his lines

@catboyzee123 Anthony Jackson has a completely different approach to the bass guitar which is more classical music based than literally any other player. In my opinion - to successfully pull this type of improvisation off on any other instrument would be amazing, to pull it off on a bass guitar is ASTOUNDING. It's like J.S. Bach turned up on the bandstand, grabbed a bass and started grooving!

I Think Anthony Jackson is one of the world's greatist Bass players alive today. I knew A lot of good bass players and one of them was The Late Great James Jamerson of The Funk Brothers, The session Band for Motown records Hitsville U. S. A. I stayed just down the street from it and got to know the band very well. But as time passed I started to look for other excellent bass players then I heard this cat playing on one of Chaka Khan's records and I said Who in the F#$K is that and it was Anthony Jackson and I said Whoo, The cat is very melodic and Rhythimic at the same time. that's very heard to do its like thinking of two different world's at the same time, keep playing Anthony, Love Norris Turney. I hope we'll get to play together one day.

Zechariah you are correct that AJ has been playing the 6 string bass for a long time
( over 3 1/2 decades ) as well as with his partnership with Fodera for a long time as well but when AJ came up with the initial concept of the 6 string Contra Bass he didn't do it with Fodera ( because Vinny Fodera was working for Ken Smith during this period ) he actually had Carl Thompson build his 1st proto type 6 string, then when that didn't workout, he then had ken Smith build it for a couple of years then I think around 89 or 90 Vinny left Ken Smith to start his own company ( I bought one in 92 for $3500.00 ! ) and it was at that time that
AJ and Vinny struck up a partnership that's obviously still remains.
