    Probably the best g shock ever. 5 alarms that you could set a date with reminder text! large digits! extremely comfortable strap. 24hr STW and TMR!!!!! pure gold

      Yep, plus a 10 year battery (instead of solar, to keep it cheap) and a PIN-protected password reminder... This watch is a home run.

    Another really cool feature I stumbled on with mine is that the "G" button that illuminates the screen to see in the dark also has a good feature you can turn on. If you hold it down the screen will flash and then it will sense when ever you lift your wrist up to look at the time and the back light will momentarily turn on.

    Thanks for a really good review. This model is being phased out and is no longer produced. It is still possible to buy it and sometimes even with a discount. I have chosen to buy one for the collection. Here in Denmark I can buy it for the equivalent of 70 USD. I think it's an impressive price when you think about the inflation we've had.

    This is the best watch I've ever had. It just does everything very very well. The back light is a perfect brightness. Some G's are dim or way too bright. The strap finally broke on mine but I got a genuine replacement easy enough. The only tricky thing is getting the strap retaining spring bar back in. My shot out accriss the kitchen lol ..needles to say finding the right size replacement has given me a headache.

    Just bought this watch today based off your video. Have to say that I really like it so far. Main reason I wanted this model is the e data function , I have alot of passwords I use at work and need to change them every month so I'm often forgetting them. The time zone feature is great if you have friends in other places, and you talk to them online or thru texting, you can know the proper time for calling them, like imagine if you text someone and it's 3:00 am where they live?? Very useful!

      Right?! Casio is NOT messing around! It pretty much makes solar-chargeable watches obsolete, as those have batteries too, and they only last 10 years as well. Might as well just skip the recharging and put a big 2032 lithium in the watches.

      It's pretty simple. You enter your 4-digit PIN code. (numerals only)
      Then, it goes down to the dot matrix part of the display. You can only see a few characters at a time, which then scroll to show a longer password. It takes some time to enter them in, as you're scrolling through all possible characters with just the Forward/Reverse buttons. Once you have them in though, you're golden.

      Good point:
      Pros:

      + All features are genuinely useful
      + 5 button interface
      + Inexpensive; well under $100
      - Although it is small in diameter, it is still a bit thick, compared to a DW5600 G-Shock

    QUESTION:
    the watch has a Data Bank 📝 that you have to be enter quite laboriously. Gentlemen: please someone check if this ⌚ has the so-called "Memory Support" when replacing a 🔋 to Keeping Memory Alive. The point is that after removing old battery, theoretically, memory and all data in it will be ZEROED and restored to Factory Settings = after inserting a new 🔋, you have to laboriously enter everything (Data) again 😥.
    Perhaps the manufacturer designed this chip so that it may hase "Data 📝 Backup" (for how long?) in memory so that the 🔋 can be replaced with a new one without losing Data and settings. I remember there used to be watches like that. If so, this would be a GREAT 👍 watch! 🤠.

    • @Smaug1
      @Smaug1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SICKULarist I have both of them, and you probably saw my review on the GD-350 as well. Here are some factors:
      If you wear short sleeves most of the time, the GD350 might be the stronger choice, because of the bigger buttons and the 1-TIME alarm feature. Silent alarm is also a strong feature, if you're frequently in either a really quiet or really loud place, where the typical beeping won't work.
      If you live in a climate that has you wearing long sleeved shirts, the G2900 is stronger, because it is much thinner and smaller in diameter. It goes under shirt sleeves reasonably well, whereas the GD350 is pretty much un-wearable under sleeves. In a cold winter, where you have a long sleeve shirt, and a jacket on top? Forget the GD350 for pretty much the entire winter. If this is going to be your everyday watch, the G2900's PIN-protected E-DATA MEMORY feature is pure gold. Put all your internet passwords here, and they're close at hand. As far as I know, this is the only Casio to have this feature, and it us useful in our modern times. The 10 year battery is also a very strong selling point. Changing the battery in these watches is when they're most likely to be damaged. You can rip the O-ring that keeps them water tight if you're not careful. Having to do this only every 10 years, instead of every 3-5, as on the GD350, means this is less of a risk. (the vibration alarm is an energy hog; the GD350 has a really big battery to support it)
      In the end, for me, the G2900 is the better pick. I can wear it more of the time, because of its more reasonable size, and it costs 1/2 as much as the GD350. Although the buttons are smaller than those of the GD350, they are still quite easy to press.
      The G2900 is a less popular choice, so you're less likely to see one "in the wild" on someone else's wrist. This is a good feature for me; I like to have unique stuff. Some folks don't like the sail-shaped analog counters. Again, I find these to be a unique alternative to the more typical round or linear counters.
      The G2900 is probably my favorite G-shock.

    • @Smaug1
      @Smaug1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go to the alarm screen. Scroll through with the lower right button until you get to the 'SIG' screen. That's for hourly signal. Turn it off using either the upper right or upper left button. I can't remember which. When in doubt, remember that Casio marks the case backs with the Module Number in a box. You can google that and find the manual online to look this stuff up.

    • @Smaug1
      @Smaug1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's an analog counter. It shows different things, depending on the mode. In timekeeping mode, it counts off 10 seconds at a time. When an alarm event is coming within an hour, it flashes on and off every other second to remind me that something's coming up.

      Tyler Durden it's the backlight button. If the watch died when you pressed it, it's due for a new battery.
