Nah, man... look closer. That's an old-style outboard motor(or possibly a trawling motor). The kind commonly used on a speedboat. The disc part is where the starter coil and steering column should be, but it's a liv8ng creature, so instead it's a suction-cup/platform to attach to a "boat"(any floating platform)
      Possibly Water/Steel or Water/Electric type.

This sort of stuff makes me wonder if the developers of X and Y were shooting for the moon with all the things they wanted to include, but had to scale back with the pressure of making the worldwide release while creating an entirely new 3D game. If it is that way, that sucks for what could have been, but it is oddly reassuring in that I and probably many of us here have struggled with this in the past. I didn’t like X and Y all too much, but seeing this really makes me appreciate their vision all the more.

    • @skelebeee
      @skelebeee 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

i was just thinking similar, like maybe some of it was the limitations of the 3D game and the 3DS itself, like they might have wanted stuff to look incredible but had to scale it back to basics because of the software. I'm sure there were many factors, but it's also interesting to note that Kalos has the smallest amount of pokemon added in a new generation, so I wonder if with how many ideas they had plus the amount of mega evolution forms that there are, it may have been too much for the 3DS to handle. We do also have a cut Pokemon Z that we very well could have seen some pokemon appear in, though that is a bit of a stretch

    • @MERCHIODOS
      @MERCHIODOS 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

Gamefreak did said that majority of X and Y development was learning how to make a Pokemon mainline game in 3D since they never made a fully 3D Pokemon game and I can why so many designs were cut and redesign because its harder to make 3D models then 2D sprites. Hopefully these cut Pokemon get reused again in later Pokemon games like how in the past beta Pokemon got reused in later Generation like Tirtouga was originally planned for Gen 2 and had concept art drawn, but got scrapped and then later reused with a new redesign with a new evolution for Gen 5, or how Mine Jr was originally planned as pre-evolution for Mr.Mime in Gen 2 with a 2D sprite but was scrapped due to Gen 2 having to many baby Pokemon and then later was reused with a redesign for Gen 4.

through all concept art and beta leaks, I always try to keep the mindset of "you just like it because it's new, you don't actually wish it replaced the pokemon we got." Generally I still think that's true. I think that while the designs granted are actually good, we don't actually wish it replaced the final pokemon designs. We just have felt stale with the final designs for so long, and something new like this that was scrapped is a breath of fresh air. It makes us FEEL like they're superior designs just because they're brand new and unseen, even if we actually prefer-- hold on, is that a wimpod-adjacent leviathan bug pokemon? Here are some of my takes with the beta Pokémon:
The cassowary/terror bird Pokémon was probably turned in Toucannon because the Japanese writing around it says that it charges fire in its body and then gives of fiery head buts similar to Toucannon’s Beak Blast
The pre evolved Chameleon Pokémon may have become Poipole. Because the Japanese states that it shoots poison out of its mouth and their share similar body shapes.
The Water bug was maybe split into both the Golispod line and the Araquanid line.
This final one is a stretch but maybe the evolved form of the peanut Pokémon but have become Heliolisk. Because the petals look like Heliolisk’s frills and they share similar body shapes

First time looking at these, but I am Japanese, so here is what the text says:
0:00 just "fairly" pokemon. (But the less obvious info being) it's detached wings glow.
2:35 the color seems to depend on the biome it is in/from. To be more specific:
    subarctic, tundra tropic, savanna
temperate, Mediterranean, west bank tropical island country
    desert tropical rain forest
monsoon temperate, Mediterranean, west bank (2nd color idea I guess?)
3:57 the first evolution concept is "water stick insect/water mantis pokemon" and the second evolution is "water beetle/diving beetle pokemon", so probably not fossil pokemon. The stuff around the second evo's eyes are supposed to look like water goggles and it hides under rocks to hunt fish pokemon. The rest of the test is basically just what the water beetles/underwater bugs do irl.
5:50 "ヒクイドリ (hikui-dori)" which is apparently the name of the Australian bird called a Cassowary. which it seems to get the design from. It can also be expressed with the kanji "火喰い鳥/火食鳥 (hikui-dori)", which is a often interpreted as the mythical bird/fantasy concept: fire-eating bird (not quite a phenix, but often similar looking fire bird), which it clearly took inspiration from since it says it eats fire. They're also nocturnal, and approach you in the night if you have a fire. They keep the fire they eat in their pouch's which grow in size the more they eat. The bone looking structure on their faces are their beaks, and the second evo uses the flames it keeps in its body to heat the dark part of the top of its head/beak when headbutting. The second evo also uses it's tail feathers to make fires itself.
7:13 says "chameleon pokemon" and "big chameleon pokemon" lol. This one has luminescent eyes to attract bugs int the night and a poison pouch + poisonous(venomous?) tongue tho. And it's also nocturnal.
    8:40 peanut guy :D
10:44 flamingo pokemon that dances the "Flamenco". The sheet explains that "Flamenco" means both "flamingo" & "fire" so it might have been a fire type. Also it's beak is a castanets, feet are high-heels that it uses to make sounds when dancing, and it stands hiding a leg when standing like irl flamingos.

The bug is based on dytiscidae water beetles. Probably dytiscus marginalis based on the coloration of the smaller one. Those probably show up in japan but I don't know for sure. It might just be because they're widespread and recognizable. At least in the northern hemisphere. Their shells are actually kind of pretty becaus of how smooth and iridescent they are. Like a little swimming gem.
The bird is likely a helmeted hornbill. They're the only hornbill I know of with a red exposed throat. Also the helmet is a pretty big giveaway to what they were trying to get at. According to wikipedia helmetted hornbills were hunted for a material called hornbill ivory which was used by Japanese carvers.
Interesting thing about the chameleon is that it shares that rolled up hubba-bubba tape gum look that beta lickilicky had. It seems like they revisited the idea and still weren't happy with it.
Breloom lookalike might have been an early idea for the convergent pokemon we got in Scarlet and Violet.
Can't help but notice that the flamingo has a similar head tuft as spritzze. Might have been an early alternative to aromatisse given that it has the the shoe looking feet and it's wings resemble the ruffs of a flamenco dancer's dress.
Little shark guy is based on stethacanthus and possibly a hydrofoil board. The top of it also resembles a sucker, like a remora, so maybe it attached itself to water types like mantine to help them surf above the water. That would be a cool idea.

13:08 It looks like it’s based on a remora fish for me. With the head being a suction device. However since there is remoraid that would conflict a bit on their origins for their designs. I just imagine this scrapped design as a potential regional variant.

-I think the mega evolutions shown could kind of work as primal reversions or regional forms instead (they look old to me). If not, they could still give those forms to Venasaur and Blastoise since Charizard has two mega evolutions.
-If you flip the fish upside down he looks kind of happy.
-I was hoping to see more cut Pokemon from X and Y because they were the smallest generation.
-The bird reminds me of Mandibuzz and Cubone.

I think the cool cut mons are cut specifically because they look too good. I remember seeing/reading a video/interview where a pokemon head or designer said that they specifically "nerf" designs. They don't want designs are are too good or "cool". Like giving Gallade an oval hips, and Garchomp line the pill shaped hammerhead like protusions. That's their design philosophy I think. They want more basic, goofier designs in general. And in Aromatisse's case, they got in specifically because they're ugly. That's what they want.

For this Gen, I wonder if they were working with the people who did the Pokémon Stadium or Colosseum games. Because, if not, it was likely the the developers’ first attempt at 3d modeling themselves. Even if that weren’t the case, a lot of these beta designs look to have a lot of details to them, whereas something like Aromatisse seems a lot simpler and likely a lot less difficult to produce at the time. Maybe, like many other betas, these will get revisited when the developers finally have the appropriate skills to actually bring them to life without any issues

Gen 6 fans are winning! Always held the belief that Gen 6 Pokémon had the best quality designs of any generation and these early iterations and cut designs are proof!
To me, they really went ham on the fantasy RPG style with these early Gen 6 designs. I can see all of these in a game like the Tales series, as they lack the "kid-friendly cartoon" vibe that Pokémon is known for. They have a lot more intricate details, bolder colors, and overall feel "grittier".

I like chameleon, though since there's already kecleon as like a 'basic' chameleon, I don't know if this one stands out enough beyond obviously having a second stage. But they could totally give kecleon a second stage sometime, especially for a regional evolution or something. I like the peanut pokemon, and yeah I agree with the flamingo pokemon.
