The actuator works when cold, but fails at operating temp then it’s the VVT oil solenoid. Sometimes they can be cleaned with brake fluid and reinstalled.

I tried cleaning them and so did another shop, for the cost of an actuator and the time to replace it just replace it

I think there is a VVT filter just below the solenoid. It can clog up and restrict oil flow.

Hi again, Because I received 3 misfire codes detected Cyl 2, 4, 6 bank 2 could it be caused by a failure up stream? I don't want to replay the coils and plug if they aren't bad.
Thanks for any advise you may give me. Marty 01 RX300

@@martinfassig2732yes I’m having same problem with 2,4,6 and I changed spark plugs, coils and fuel injectors and problem remained so I took to autozone the paper said I need vvt so I went to russian mechanic and without showing him the paper he said it’s your vvt so I’m 100% sure it’s that. $70 part only about 30 min to do it yourself, easy work!!!

I replaced both VVT sensors (with OEM toyota) 30k miles ago, and I'm getting P1346 again. Is it common for it to test well but still fail when at operating temp? I can drive a solid 30min before I get the code, car drives great before and even after the code appears.

That’s interesting 🤔. Did you try checking the pre filter screens that are located just before the solenoids? Also this may sound silly but is your oil level good?

@@Tech-28 Oil level is good and clean. I started getting the code again and have since pulled the pan and cleaned it and the oil pickup, nowhere near as much sludge as this car in your videos. I also swapped to the 3.3L RX330 rear valve cover and PCV valve as I read on the forums that it's the way to avoid the sludge. I cleaned the filters when I did the valves 30k ago. I might just buy two new filters and do those before I buy another valve.

@@danielfrederick1902 I feel like it’s not the solenoid valves, u would firstly check those pre filter screens (look like 14mm bolts with a gasket washer behind it) located just down and to the side facing towards the transmission. If those are clean than you could check another couple things like wiring, timing marks, and oil pressure. All of these can throw this code, but start with what’s easy

Hi I have a 2001 Lex RX300. 200K miles. Engine light came on. Autozone tested; error codes are P0300 random misfire, P0302 Cy2, P0304cy4, P0306 cy6 and P1354 (variable valve Timing bank 2. I had the VVT replaced but no change. Car runs rough engine light will go on and off at times. Before I take in again I noticed your video here. What do think? Thanks, Marty in Texas
