As per the rules of Wash Away and all cleave cards, "If an effect allows you to “cast a spell without paying its mana cost,” you can't cast that spell for its cleave cost.". This is what torrential gearhulk does. The adventure was cast from hand, and therefor there are no legal targets for wash away which without cleave can only counter spells not cast from hand.
It’s not necessarily just a cleave thing, either. It’s just that only one alternate cost can apply per casting, and “without paying its mana cost” is an alternate cost. This is distinct from things like kicker, which are additional costs, not alternate ones.
At 24:08, you actually can Siphon Insight their Commander because you exile it face down, so they don't actually know that the card you grabbed is their Commander, and therefore can't move it to the command zone.
11:23 You couldn't use Wash Away because it wasn't cast for it's Cleave cost, so since he cast it from his hand it wouldn't have resolved, you were lucky he scooped.
He would have still been fine though, right? The shapeshifter tokens are colorless, and with 3 blockers, the most damage that can come through is 2, so he could attack for lethal next turn.
Stealing that Emrakul from the opponent's graveyard was nasty! Enjoyed this historic brawl content as always CGB, very entertaining and is always a nice break from standard.
Siphon Insight works the way you wanted it to ─ the opponent would not have been able to choose command zone for the face-down card chosen, because the rules of face-down exiled cards prevent the opponent from being able to make the decision at that moment.
Four months late... but just came back to Arena while on leave from surgery last week, a day before MKM dropped, and saw a post on Reddit about your possible retirement. Didn't know who you were, but so it goes. Found out Bitterblossom was back in the game and was like "Historic for me!" Found this video, and was like "Oh, that's the dude, and he's playin' my tribe! Gotta check this out!" And sure enough, did not leave disappointed. OMG, loved the battles, the off-the-cuff strategy talk, the tongue-in-cheek toxic emoji'in. Actually just built the deck; looking forward to it. Very enjoyable video. Sure didn't seem tired to me, but w/e. CGB, hope you get your groove back or find joy in whatever comes next for ya. Hugs!
Enjoying all the content you make. Really you make the show more for me than the game. It’s hard for me to go watch anyone else for mtg content. Thank you for all that you do!
Really like this deck, it got me to finally start historic brawl. Always loved them blue-black decks like Rogues in the past. And it's definitely a winner... beating Atraxa in the late game or just winning turn 1 while casting Thoughtseize :).
I built this deck on release as a tribal deck and found it works better as a flash deck. Really enjoy pumping low mana spells early and going big later
I usually don’t pay much attention to historic brawl or standard. But I do enjoy watching the vids. This deck had my interest piqued though. Turns out I don’t have to craft anything for it. So maybe I’ll give HB a chance.
I am really sad we do not see at least 80% standard decks. Ok maybe I am being selfish :) But I enjoy your decks the most and your play style and explanations.
Well this makes me think I should unsleeve new Alela and use Obayra as a Lt./backup Commander for Tygwell in paper. Looks great for 1 v 1 setups and for more agrro boards, not that Trywell is bad at them but sometimes that two mana instead of three isn't a bad trade-off.

Thanks, that was exactly the comment I was looking for!

@@YourHumbleFriend Sure, I'm just saying, he was confused why it wouldn't let him cast it.
@@boobox2000 ah, gotcha gotcha. Yeah, didn't mean to be a pedant!

And if you are a maniac like myself and want a triple dose of CGB, there's also the Worst Possible Commander show, at Covert go Crew

Hope you're having fun in Vegas! Thank you for making sure we have plenty of videos while you are gone ! We really appreciate it!

keep it rocking my dude, super happy to see you getting included as you grow in your professional standing

Love ya CGB! Historic brawl is my favorite to watch! Keep up the great work!
30+ scutes are fine and all until you remember that sheoldred has swamp-walk and you are at 6 life
Why is this video so short? CGB left literally no information as to why it's not as long as normal.
Jk, you're great.
Emrakul reanimation was so effing sick. Id be cackling so hard if i got that.
I saw obyra in a draft pack the other day and I immediately wanted to build around it like this. Might steal this list.

Like number 💯. Love me some Dimir HB. Deck looks very fun.

That last game was pretty rad and their deck looks fun to play!
I still love Slitherwisp! It’s fantastic!
Hope you've had a great time in Magiccon!
all these exciting new commanders and mfs out here playing Torens still?! XD
cant cast wash away for cleave since cleave is an alternate cost
I hope magiccon Vegas was fun, you’re cool.
Thanks CGB.
Just in time for lunch 😁

Fixed, nerd.
21:40 😃
Man it's a shame that dimir flash isn't as good in 4 player commander, I love this deck!
"Hello" 😂😂😂
lmao duress and thoughtseize every game XD
The Arena un-shuffler 😂
I find the lack of Beseech the Mirror mildly concerning
Deck can't enable it reliably enough I think
You're cool too cgb
Historic brawl is best content 🎉

This deck is nothin if you get your hidden elo up and play good high rated cards you will see some real sht. Most games are over by turn 3

Nice!
Must be nice to play against someone who doesn't know how to mtg in the first game...
I insta-scoop to dimir in hist brawl 😎
First!
rigged mana algo, game is dog water.
