As a player who’s done the 3 Star Ranks in this game, there’s a few things i can explain for those who want to 3 Star Rank everything in Super Circuit: Coins are worth one point each Getting the Starting Boost does give you extra points. Every character gets bonus after finishing the cup which can help (the highest bonus is Bowser, 2nd DK and Wario, 3rd Mario and Luigi and the lowest is Peach and Toad. Yoshi does not receive a bonus tho, the lightweights are the harder ones in the Extra Cups/SNES Cups Avoid using red shells, lightning, star, blue shell to hit AI racers (use the red shell as a shield) Collect items boxes when you already have a item in the slot Getting hit by Lightning gives you points The Extra Lightning Cup is considered the hardest to 3 Star Rank (especially with Lightweights) but there’s a few tracks that have special rules. Mario Circuit 3’s sand and Choco Island 2’s dirt do not punish you for taking the off road BUT the Mud Pool from Choco Island 2 does count as Off Road, best way to take that part is by taking the small island on the left which is faster and you don’t spent that much time in the mud. When you fall off the track, you can do the Lakitu Boost which gives you points for getting it Drifting is really important because Mini Turbo will help with your score Do Not Hit the Brakes it will punish you greatly, i suggest letting go off the A Button on tough turn and quickly press it back. Water counts as Off Road, so avoid it or starting hopping a lot cause the game checks the time how much you spent on the off road.
I did actually end up looking on that forum of the people breaking it down into excessive detail. Probably the same source this info came from tbh. It's so bizarre that getting hit by lightning actually benefits you though
Sorry but I don't like it, the tracks are good, but the controls are horrible, if the controls were good probably I will consider it a good Mario Kart game

Yeah. In Poland, I cannot find any players who got any good ranks in this game. Nobody to play with, even tho I have multiple GBAs and game link cables (and about 3 original copies of this game ;)
Before the BCP even existed, I considered GBA the "Forgotten" Tracks mainly because there wasn't alot of them. Im glad GBA is getting more recognition In Tour/BCP
Super Circuit is so great. It was SO gratifying finally unlocking the secret nighttime title screen on my copy. I know most don't even give it a chance because it's 2D and on a handheld, but I didn't even grow up with this game, and I think it's awesome.
With such a large amount of tracks, it makes Double Dash feel so light in comparison. Thank goodness DS brought back and standardized the retro tracks, only now with all the previous Mario Karts instead of just the one.
That summary at the end about leaving a bit of a bad impression at first, but having great value if you stick with it felt like a great analogy of your channel. I wasn't sure what to think about a swearing Goomba playing horrible video games. But there was a certain charm that kept me coming back for more. Now I get excited whenever you pop up in my feed!

I just looked it up, and you have to straighten your Kart before releasing the drift button to get a mini turbo. Apparently, drifting is required to get a better rank on the SNES courses.
Wow, praise for Super Circuit is *RARE* these days but... Well hey, finally someone else who gets it! Yeah, it's like... Not what you'd expect from Mario Kart these days, and it *Definitely* takes some getting used to, but once you click with this game, it's right brilliant! And before MK8's DLC it really was the one with the most content, it's almost weird to think that this was the one that pioneered the concept of bringing back tracks from previous games! Albeit in a VERY different way...
Super Circuit gets no love these days. Once you stop tryin to play it like MK8, it feels great. Still one of the best entries from a single player perspective
I loved how this game only needed one cartridge for multiplayer! I remember playing it on the bus with buds on the way to school! I also thought it was really cool how if you threw a red shell behind, would stay still waiting for someone to drive by and attack them.
I found out as a child that the only courses you can play multiplayer without an extra game pack were the SNES courses, and you didn't even have to unlock them. My friends and I would play 4 player in school with only 1 game and it was great.
That is pretty interesting. I do remember trying the single cart multiplayer as a kid but I didn't remember what tracks it was. I guess the SNES tracks used less memory since they're a lot smaller so was easier to do.
There is a reason why this is the highest rated one. Shipped with a gba. Everybody played this. Edit: I do have fond memories of this, I do remember unlocking the entire retro cup and racing for 3 stars on every stage. As I was a kid, I'm not sure to what extent I unlocked content, but I'm as hell sure I have seen the orange title screen. Edit 2: hold up, I might still have the cartridge somewhere...
I can see why it's the highest rated: It throws together the best parts of SMK and MK64 (the previous two entries), comes with multiplayer only needing one cardridge (albeit limiting it), and it basically introduced the concept of Retro Tracks by having *all* of SMK tracks included as unlockable - resulting it also being the Mario Kart with the most tracks included by default (40!) until MK8Deluxe (MK8 regular had more with the paid DLC tracks, but less by default). Also, it's portable. I think the only thing it did "wrong" (and that's more in hindsight) is acting too much like SMK in terms of driving.
It is a fusion of SMK and MK 64 on one of the best handhelds of all time. It had a minimized 4 player experience with even a single cartridge. And most importantly: You can set red shell traps. Of course this is historically the best MK of all time
Finally, someone that has actually played super circuit and realized that it is great😌 There are so many people that have barely touched the game and say its the worst in the series for no reason... :c
This video made me go and boot my old GBA and my old copy of Super Circuit to see how I did with the star ranks as a kid. I three starred all but one cup in 50cc, then many 1 and 2 stars in 100cc.................. But in 150cc I had a star on one cup, and letter ranks on the rest. Guess I never mastered it. Was fun to watch my 20+ year old replays in the Time Trial though! Thanks for the vid Goomba, I really went down memory lane with this one
This is probably the Mario Kart game I've devoted the most time to. I actually had a gba, I had to go to my friends houses to play the first 2 mario kart games.
getting triple star rank in MKWii is just as difficult if not more so due to rng. if im not remembering wrong, you have to not get hit by items, you have to hold 1st place for most of the race, some other absurd criteria that i cant remember. basically going up in difficulty requires the luck of the gods because its Mario Kart Wii, the game that invented "get Mario Kart'd" for getting pummeled by EVERY cpu that was behind you if just one hits you
Wii is pretty tricky but it's not nearly as hard imo. There is a higher luck element with Wii though more than this which can screw up an entire cup. I like Wii but yeah, the item balance is horrendous in that game.
Don't forget there's a flying Princess Peach's Castle with Bowser's face & Clown face with Spike balls from Paper Mario n64 in the Backgrounds be hiding the clouds 4:50 if you don't see it I know these References from the back of me hand
One of my favorite things about super circuit is that red shells can be planted behind you where they wait for a racer to pass them. They then go after the racer that passed them.
Yeah I felt the same way, I went and star ranked every cup in DS and then got this game. I was able to 2-star most 50cc cups in DS in not even a day or two, but with this game I've spent what feels like a WEEK with just 50cc. And I'm somehow supposed to 3-star all of these for 100%? The learning curve for this game in particular feels like one the series' hardest. But even though it's slow I can see myself getting slightly better, and those moment when I DO actually get it and am driving perfect feel sooo good. Even though it's frustrating, I'm gonna keep at this one
Hope the impeccable timing of this game becoming available on switch online + expansion boosts the views on this video! Found it quite interesting, cheers!!!
Your channel is like a mixture of story time videos, V-Tubing, and Nintendo content + reviews. You might find this either as an insult or a compliment, but I love what you're doing here. Keep up the great work! 💜🙌 I love seeing reviews for barely known nor reviewed games.
I've never got the chance to play this game, ever since it's release. But after seeing this video. I really need to give it a shot someday. I keep forgetting that it exist, since no one ever talks about it. Thanks for covering this game Goomba.
I always loved Super Circuit. It was my second after 64. It controls identically to Super Mario Kart so Toad is by far the best character and I vehemently disagree with ignoring drifting because that's really important in 150cc. Once you get good at the drifting you basically don't ever really have to brake.
Truly underrated as hell game. I never got into it when it came out, honestly, but I tried it again like 4 or 5 years ago and put some real effort into it. It really is great once you give yourself time to get used to it. Some of the most fun single player in the series to be sure, while having an AI that's actually POSSIBLE to beat with some technique unlike Super Mario Kart's extremely cheating AI. I'd say the game totally replaces SMK in everything but the multiplayer accessibility because of that damned link cable and no ability to use the wireless adapter because it was a near launch GBA title. I personally would just suggest picking one character you like and sticking with them since they all control somewhat differently. I went with DK because he's said to have the best handling of the heavy characters and gives high bonus points towards the star ranks (also speed in the menu is mistranslated and should say acceleration). Plus I'm used to drifting all the time and it feels really satisfying when you pull it off. At any rate I always lamented the fact that you can't really play multi-player with anyone because of the need for a link cable. That's where GBA NSO comes in, it was great to play 2P Grand Prix with someone and play 3 or 4 Player battle, online, easily.
I remember hating this game when I first played it, but when I went back to it a couple years ago, it really grew on me. Super Circuit is a swell game!
I could say the same! It was the first GBA game I played, and boy I hated it. Could never get any good rank. Yeras later - it was in 2020 - i started getting the highest ranks. Took me months, but boy, I got them all.
This and Double Dash are still best in the series in my mind (from a gameplay perspective). Super Circuit had the best music ever and man if you DO master the drifting and hopping in this game you can absolutely destroy it. I remember getting good enough that I used to “decide” the race outcomes myself. For example, playing as Mario and strategically making sure Luigi comes in 2nd and Wario 3rd. Among others. Man I love this game. And shout out to the Blue Shell being balanced amazingly in this game. Encouraging you to drive well in order to outrun it. I think now I’m gonna have to go listen to the soundtrack through some good headphones again
I remember seeing Super Circuit in magazine previews back in 2001. At the time, I was in love with the zaniness of Mario Kart 64. I finally tried it out in 2005. Upon first playing MKSC, I was thrown off by the fast speed. It was fun, but even on the lowest CC level I felt like I lacked control with the racers. Even back then, I was captivated by the creativity of the tracks. Cheese Land is my favorite, followed by Sunset Wilds, Ribbon Road, and Riverside Park. The Bowser's Castle design from Paper Mario stood out on Rainbow Road, although I am otherwise indifferent to Super Circuit's version. As you touched on in the video, there's a lot of unlockables to achieve here. It's quite impressive from a objective standpoint. Personally, though, I don't really care to unlock each and every little thing within. Apparently you unlock alternate title screens (which is cool), but the amount of time it would take me sounds like it wouldn't be worth it in the long run. If I do have one major praise for Mario Kart: Super Circuit, it's the Quick Run mode. This is the first time where players can do VS. races by themselves, and I love it! It's fun to just pick up and play a course or two if I have time to kill. Certainly my favorite part of the game. Ultimately, I wouldn't place Super Circuit as one of my favorite Mario Karts, but it is an enjoyable time. Good job covering this game, Goomba.
Mario Kart Super Circuit was the game I played until Christmas of 2011, where I was lucky enough to be gifted a 3DS and MK7. Safe to say, THANK GOD I didn't have to play SC after 2011.
I remember my brother & I playing Super Circuit back when I had a Wii U. One hell of a fun game - yes, the controls were hard to get used to, but my brother actually managed to *_100% THE ENTIRE GAME._* Never underestimate GBA games like this.
a little tip from someone that has been playing this game for 20 years now. If you are aiming for triple stars, the heavier the character you are playing the higher your chances will be.
Didn't have this game back in the day, played it later on emulator for the first time and it certainly wasn't one of my favorite considering I had already played Double Dash and the slippery controls, but still had fun with it since it's Mario Kart after all. Nowadays while I still suck at it I quite appreciate Super Circuit for introducing wacky course themes, retro tracks and ranks (completely forgot about them, great addition for those looking for a challenge) to the series!
I have no idea if I actually unlocked the SNES courses for all difficulties, but I do remember being impressed by the scope of the game and how they'd improved the controls to be less slippery than the Mode 7 original. ... It sure has been over 20 years. Heck.
As a child, I felt Super Circuit to be vastly inferior to Mario Kart DS, the only other Mario Kart I had at the time. Having recently replayed Super Circuit and MKDS, I find I enjoy SC far more. I like the more technical aspects of honing your skills and precision to get a three star rating. In my opinion, the game is definitely less beginner friendly than MKDS, but the challenge it demands of the player is what kept me engaged. Also, the Jungle Park thumbnail means that Wario canonically gets his skull melted by volcano juice while trying to Go-Kart.
I'm a simple man, I see someone speaking highly of Super Circuit, the guy gets a like.

Lakeside Park, Cheeseland, Snow land, Sky garden, Sunset wilds, Ribbon road, Yoshi desert and Rainbow road. This game have so many amazing tracks.

Exact.
Mario kart super circuit had its own booster course pass before even mario kart 8 did
Not bad for a 2001 GBA game
surviving a single turn in Fire Emblem Awakening on Lunatic+ is still harder lmao
I didn't love this game as a kid but came back to it recently after mastering and falling in love with the physics of Super Mario Kart and loved it!
Wow, the timing of this video like 3 days before the game was announced/released on NSO.
The Lonely Goomba Prophet.
Amazing job, keep up the incredible work
Super Circuit is stupid fun. I grinded the hell out of it in High School
Hey, I actually got the highest rating in all the tracks recently! it was the hardest thing ever on any GB.
what convenient timing for this video... for what happened in today's direct.
We all want Goomba as a playable character in Mario Kart. We don't care if he doesn't has hands, King Boo doesn't had feets and can drive.
Listen I’m a simple Koopa that is lonely just like the lonely goomba
My personal favourite Mario Kart. Played it to death back in the day. Cracking video as always 😂
It’s the best period.
I remember my brother & I playing Super Circuit back when I had a Wii U. One hell of a fun game - yes, the controls were hard to get used to, but my brother actually managed to *_100% THE ENTIRE GAME._*
Never underestimate GBA games like this.
It's funny how not long after this video came out, Super Circuit came to Switch Online
Super Circuit Lowkey Has The Best Tracks In The Series! One of my favorite mk games
a little tip from someone that has been playing this game for 20 years now.
Heres the deal: the game is hard. It has controls that take skill to learn. But its always fair and you will always win if you're a good player.
You sold me on this game, definitely gonna give it another try eventually
Good timing now it is on switch online, great content as always!!
Funny how he released this days before the Direct announced the GBA with Super Circuit in it
I have no idea if I actually unlocked the SNES courses for all difficulties, but I do remember being impressed by the scope of the game and how they'd improved the controls to be less slippery than the Mode 7 original.
...
It sure has been over 20 years. Heck.
I played this game for such a short time, I don't think I've ever seen the Spiny Shell. Cool that you can outrun it, though.
0:56 SO DAMN TRUE!! You’re so underrated bud
Aye it did the trick back in the day, then nowt much more than that. But I love seeing its tracks come back with Mario Kart 8 updates
Was surprised how much I enjoyed playing this game again, but man are the coins ridiculously difficult to pick up
