    One thing you might check into is a performance camshaft that has different lift timing. They would not be as popular as OEM timing camshafts and may be possible to find some in stock. With the added benefit of a small increase in horsepower.

      problem is, there's not much aftermarket support for the V10 Modular engine.

    • @TravelingMo
      @TravelingMo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Then I guess another option might be a crate engine from someone like Blackwater Engines, if they have one in stock. They sell the V10 in a longblock. May end up not costing much more after other repairs on that engine.

      Traveling Mo and Mexican spec I should have looked at your guys's comments first because I literally just said the same thing about a performance grind camshaft designed for low end torque or better fuel mileage and I also mentioned that there are many manufacturers that will regrind a camshaft and even fix up a bad lobe or bearing face.

    Ex mechanic here. I hate to say this, but there is no reason a camshaft lobe should just "rub off". If that happened, you have larger concerns, first, since you now have a history of internal parts failures on that hemisphere of the engine, the engine is almost certainly having/had lubrication problems. It could be something as simple as the previous owner(s) never changed the oil, or there may be an oil pressure or other lubrication problem. Have you checked the oil pressure? You should. When a metal part, like a cam rounds off in your motor, the metal shavings get in the oil, and cause damage to your motor. It's very likely there is excessive wear on this engine. Cams generally only get replaced when your rebuilding an engine with high miles on it, or upgrading for performance.

    Hey Eric, Have you looked into buying rebuilt cylinder head(s) instead of just trying to replace a cam?
    Sure they are more expensive, but "seem" available. To be honest I would be very cautious about replacing just the cam, in a head that has been stressed like that. Even if you can find just a cam, and just replace it alone, you may find that there are more head problems cropping up again in a few months. The valves, guides cam bearings etc. may have been worn by the excessive play or the same oil starvation that caused the cam wear. It might be better to bite the bullet now and start fresh, rather than have to struggle with these same issues multiple times. The added benefit is that the "new" heads might have been modified to minimize the lubrication problems that often are the root cause of these problems. I think that there are upgraded oil pumps available for these engines too, that increase oil pressure and flow, and help to extend durability.

    I am not going to claim I found anything for your vehicle but I am a total gearhead and was even ASE certified for a bit so I have an idea that you may have not thought of, what about an aftermarket camshaft with a performance grind... Performance doesn't have to mean high horsepower or bad fuel mileage but many companies make camshafts that are designed for higher torque and/or better fuel mileage. I don't know anything about a 2012 Ford 6.8. there is a million aftermarket cam manufacturers and I would think a call to Summit racing or Jegs and talking to one of their techs might be able to help or at least point you in the right direction. And if there isn't a performance manufacturer there might be one willing to use your RV as their test vehicle to make one.
    Also again I have no experience with the Triton 6.8 but back in the day there is was actually people that could regrind a camshaft or even fix a dead lobe on a messed up camshaft, I would imagine with Google it would be pretty easy to find one of these people somewhere in the United States as I know they are still exist although everyday they are getting more scarce.
    Anyways good luck on your search and if you decide to check in on what I recommended let me know if it worked out I would love to have the knowledge for a future reference.

    My SUV was recalled because of a part. The faulty part will cause my vehicle to shut off while driving or just won't start sometimes. Luckily it broke in my driveway. Had it to towed to dealership to be replaced. It magically started the next day at the dealership! But it has to be replaced. I'm on a 6 month waiting list for the part to come in. I whined to them and said I'm OLD and it is my only vehicle. So they bumped me up on the list! Now I only have to wait 5 months. LOL! Give me a break! So, while I'm waiting on them to get the part, I have to drive the SUV praying it will start and not shut off on me while I'm traveling down the road at 60 miles an hour. SO I UNDERSTAND!
    Also, I don't like public showers either.

    When I was 15 I lived on a boat in Dinner Key FL. The city hall had a basement that offered free showers to those in that area. My reward for using those free showers was a 7 year battle with athletes foot on both feet. At 22 I met my wife who was type 1 diabetic. An infection to her could result in an amputation. The grunge had to go. It was a hell of a battle over months of over the top self treatment. My advice is don't risk it in the first place. I heard nail fungus is even worst.

  • @lyfandeth
    @lyfandeth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    In theory, you can take your old camshaft, or a used camshaft, and have new metal added by "plasma deposition spraying" it. Then having it machined back down to spec. Plasma spraying is a special type of welding used to rebuild rollers for printing presses and elevators. It is basically adding fine metal dust into a welding torch, converting the dust into metal plasma that bonds with the old metal. Look up "Eutectic Castolin" one of the prime sources, they can tell you what shops are near you.
    Then you need "any" shop that builds custom camshafts for offroad or racing, and a price quote to see if it is worth doing.

    Have you checked into getting your camshaft re-welded, then ground back into specs. I use to race back in the day .... and could get a camshaft, crankshaft, head's resurfaced etc .... turn around was around 3/4 day's for a camshaft. As an added bonus with doing this, if there is a know problem from the factory, want a different lift, etc ..... the person that resurfaces the lobes, can actually build it up with harder material, thus extending life of the part. Again ..... this was 20 years ago, but I'm sure someone in the racing crowd could point you to a good machine/race shop near you pretty quickly. Good luck man!

I hate to tell ya but I told you the cams would be junk in short order. Probably should get the cam followers off the junk yard motor too. If you can get the whole head, I'd do that. This way, you'll have the head when you shoot a spark plug out later on. OH yeah, Fords do that! Ford Triton series motors weren't the best, 4.6, 5.4 and 6.8 Liters all have coil, timing chain, timing chain tensioners and spark plug hole problems, not to mention exhaust manifold leaks and sometimes the intake manifold too. Did you check the oil filter for metal? If you found metal in the filter your motor is not long for this world. FORD = Found On Road Dead. LOL

Eric is one of the hardest working providers of quality entertainment but has been pretty unlucky with the mechanical systems of his vehicles and I genuinely feel for him and many others would have thrown in the towel. But not Eric, he finds a way of carrying on and providing content for his loyal viewers. Keep smiling buddy and keep going

    Other than the lake, that campground looks like the one I treated myself to for a month in West Bethel Maine. A pine grove, small, lots of empty sites most of the time. No "circus" atmosphere, tiny store, nice little pool. A "mom and pop" place, Mike and Michelle are great hosts.
    Sorry about Miranda's woes, hope something turns up soon. In the meantime, you make have to be thinking about towing a small trailer for extra storage.

    I've bought that exact electric bike 2 years ago, but the earlier version and there's no problem going up hills as long as you use the pedal assist mode 5. Remember, it is both a 7-speed bike which is on the right handlebar, and then you have the pedal assist modes on the left handle bar. Make sure you drop down to first or second speed on the right handle bar and then use pedal-assist mode 5 on the left Handlebar. Also, if you go into the computer screen you can increase the speed to 28 miles an hour from 20 miles per hour that the bike is shipped to you at. You can find out how to do that on TH-cam just in case you haven't already done that. You will fly up the hills.
    I enjoy your videos glad you're doing more of them.

    Namadic, we too are a traveling nomadic family from time to time i am the pilot and the mechanic. Definitely learn your engine and get into fixing your vehicle yourself. Also have you considered contacting a machine shop that can fix the lobe on your cam. I believe they can weld material and recut the lobe to factory spec. Also the lifter will need to be replaced check the pushrod and rocker. And finally the valves to find the reason the cam failed.

    Man, I wish I could live your life. My mechanic said parts availability will be getting worse over the year. Something to do with CA port getting more and more backed up with no one to unload cargo freight. Then the ships are sitting in port waiting to unload and can't. He said they are getting more and more behind as ships can't return. He said they are telling people 2months, but it's more like six months to a year and getting worse.

    Hello,
    I don’t understand why having a “base camp” is an issue.
    You need to have a place to reside esp with intense auto issues. Or pandemic. Or a place just to house your belongings that are not camping worthy.
    Also, you need a place you can stretch out and call home even if it is just a few times a year.
    It just makes sense to me to have a base camp.
    Who says you have to travel hundreds and hundreds of miles to experience nature by camping.
    We all should experience what’s in our own back yard.
    Eric, don’t give up on Illinois.
