Hey so I was wondering. If you plug in your headset to the capture card it must record your voice then right? What if I wanted to use an external mic that I have instead to record my voice? I still want to be able to record the Xbox live party chat I’m in with my friends and be able to talk to them. But I want to be able to use my nice actual mic rather than my headset for the recording.
This is where I’m at.. I’m a bit frustrated at this. I’m curious if you found a work around. I had great audio and mic but with my wireless headset on I couldn’t talk in party chat... I was hooked up from my controller to the controller port and nothing in the head set port and had a mic hooked up to the pc with my wireless head set/mic for console. I set it up to play through both speakers and head set (party chat) but nothing was playing through to the stream. Just my audio from my pc mic and game volume. As soon as I unplug my controller port on the capture card I lose stream game volume but I’m able to talk to party chat... I hook up all the wires like it recommends. It all work but all volumes are at half. With the capture card maxed out.
Advance pass through is actually super convenient. I stream from a set up where I also play from. Some days I'm not streaming and I have the day off I'd like to play something but don't want to switch HDMI cables to play in 4k HDR. Its not a super selling point but it totally makes sense to me.
Wow, this was incredibly helpful video and answered just about all the questions I had about the XR1, and you covered retro gaming too?!? Thanks a ton!
16:35 they are calling it passthrough but it's really called "Bypass" but could be called by-passthrough, because the signal is passing through the unit, but not the hardware. Should have been called Bypass...
I'm having a weird problem where regardless of PS4 settings my EVGA XR1 has a green hint in the preview. OBS is on NV12 (default) and changing it around doesn't really get rid of the hue.
I need help with this. How do the aux ports work? Even when I connect my PS5 controller to one aux port and my PS5 headset to the other, I can't get the game audio to passthrough and the mic on my headset doesn't work.
I just bought it and I'm so stuck with this. Did you find a solution? I'm using Arctis Wireless Pro. Controller plugged into thhe controller input on XR1. Headset plugged into the mic / line connection on XR1. I can get sound through my headset and into OBS, but no mic for party chat. If I change any settings, I get mic input but no OBS stream sound.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understand the Advanced Passthrough mode correctly it does have one use case: Watching HDR content on consoles. Since the card doesn't support HDR in normal passthrough mode you would have to unplug and rewire your console every time you wanted to watch a movie in HDR, and then back when you wanted to game. With this feature you can just turn off the capture, making it support HDR passthrough, and turn it back on when gaming. That is still a *very* narrow use case though because I would imagine if people have an HDR capable display, they'd also want to game in HDR. But some people might not care about HDR Gaming, only HDR Movies.
@@EposVox Definitely, yes, especially in this point in time where even the consoles are focusing on HDR more or less. And I don't understand what is so difficult about that either. From a logical standpoint it should just be routing a signal from A to B and the chip inside shouldn't even interfere with that. But then again I don't know how these devices work internally so who knows why that's not easily possible...
@EposVox, did you happen to test if you could run this 'headless'? ie, device plugged into input, NOT plugged into output? I'm wanting to just capture the HDMI from another computer to use it as basically Picture-in-picture.

I think is pretty convenient and very smart on their end that they did that. Is not fair at all to say that any other company could have done that, because guess what, they didn't,and still charge top dollar for the capture card, like the $200 i paid for Elgato HD60 Pro. this is on sale at best buy right now for $129.99 ,you can't go wrong with this capture card at that price based in your detailed reviews. So i desagree with you on this point but thank you for helping me make the decision of buying it,oh also because it will allow me to play at 4k,60fps and record at 1080p for those random days when I want to upload a video

Can somebody list of ALL exact resolution (not Xp, but actual resolution), modes (p/i), and exact refresh rates it support when capturing? Does it only work with 16:9 input and output? What about 16:10, 4:3, 5:4, 3:2, 1:1, etc? What about interlaced video streams? Uncommon, but does happen. What about 1280×720 60 fps or 1280 x 960 60 fps streams? It is impossible to find details in specs exactly. Lets say I connect it to 1920x1920 60Hz monitor, can it be captured, what will be capture resolution? Probably not 1920x1920 60Hz, as the max this card can do is 1920x1080 60Hz, which is clearly less pixels. Can I do something like maybe 1400x1400 60Hz, which is close in pixel count? Also is it possible to use it without a monitor connected on the output?

I know you said that you wouldn't recommend this for pc streaming but it's currently 200$ CAD with free shipping would this be worth getting for a dual pc streaming setup over the Elgato HD60+ currently priced at 300$ CAD?
So when my PS5 arrives, I can play 4K/60+ & capture via OBS @ 1080/60 w/ audio to twitch? But if I already have a Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2 plus.. any benefit to using this EVGA one vs the Avermedia? I use GOXLR as my interface tho... wondering what snags I will run into.
None of that matters if you're using with a console and if you're gaming on a PC you literally have NO reason to need a capture card. People say to offload the work to another computer but that's just stupid. If you have a decent computer, it can handle it all without issue and you can still game. So yeah, using a capture card for playing PC games is idiotic unless you have an older system. And if you have an older system that can't handle streaming and gaming, then you're DEFINITELY not getting 120 FPS at 1440p anyway.
"you're comfortable normally playing in 1440p 120hz and then playing in 1080p60 when you stream" Honestly this sounds like something a lot of people would like. Not everyone is going to stream everything they do, and being able to have better resolution and refresh rate off-stream without futzing with cables is definitely a value-add. For desktop-style capture equipment like this, a bypass button like this should be standard for exactly the kind of situation you described.
@@EposVox Can you cite some examples? As your video says, you've reviewed a lot of cards, so I doubt I'd find the relevant ones just by watching random reviews. Currently, the XR1 is on sale in a price bracket that seemed rather empty when I was going through the recommendations of other reviewers today (USD125), and some companies do a sale so frequently that it's more accurate to judge by sale price than full price. 1440 to 1080 is an awkward scaling, so my intuition would have been that a model without like the XR1 would be less expensive than competitors with.

So I do have an older video about it but honestly it's not very good and needs re-done. The gist is that it performs worse than software game capture and doesn't provide any benefits

Thank You for getting that card to work. Watched HarrisHeller trying to get it to work and like you said the instruction were not clear on how that card worked.. I liked the way you broke the card down.. ThANKS mAN..
This is not so great, even if you use it for what it can do. 4K->1080p downscale recording looks horrible. It looks like they scaled down to 480p and then upscale back to 1080p; so much noise. It looks fine on 1080p input recording at 1080p; forget it if you have 4k input though. Even worse, the mic input somehow drains the volume, even maxed out on the XR1, turn up gain on my powered mic to max, the audio volume that comes out in OBS is so low I have to add more gain in post.
aww yes, I was just thinking about this card, and whether I should get this or the avermedia because I want a USB one, then there is my EposVox video just sitting there waiting on the same day. Edit: wait, they are marketing it towards PC to other PC capture? If I just want to capture my nintendo switch to OBS in 1080p and have it passthrough to my 1440p monitor it should be fine though? They are advertising that a 1440p source can be downgraded to 1080p record and output natively/4K, and this is the false part? Sorry I have done no research into this device apart from this video, and I was trying to decide between this and the avermedia live gamer usb models to just capture some animal crossing haha.
Honestly this could be a good product for people with lower end PC's. Not everybody has a Beefy PC and a high end monitor. If u have a low end pc and say a laptop to stream with and record with this is pretty good. Like an entry level capture card. For heavy streamers with high end PC's and monitors then yes I agree with you. but thats not all PC streamers.
This is literally no better for those with lower-end PCs than any other capture card I’ve reviewed, and there are a couple others that are cheaper and much better suited for those users. But nothing inherent to this card requires lower specs than the USB offerings from the likes of Elgato or AVerMedia

Sounds like you’re maxing out your USB bandwidth. Move the webcam to a different port
@@EposVox I moved my cam to my front port and it worked great! Thanks! You just gained a sub! Great content!
Worth it for 60$ ? Im trying to use my pc as a monitor for the consoles
Thank you for this vid…. I know it’s 2 years old … but you saved me from making a mistake of buying this for myself
I’ve been waiting for this thanks
Any tips and tricks to get OSSC to work in 2x or 5x? I can't get mine to capture through my Gscart
An awesome video as per usual, Adam! 😁 👍 👍
Cheers to you, my man! 🍻
100% agree on the cable routing: inputs and output should all be on the same side. Make the product wider or taller if you have to.
good review, I think I will stick with my startech still. Keep up the good videos .
weirdly the xr1 is going for 40 - 50 usd here in singapore. Replaced my genki shadowcast and it is a big difference. For that price, it is unbeatable.
Does this work with mobile devices? Ipad pro 2020? Thank youuuu for answering
No 1440p passthrough!? No 120hz!? Ok, hard pass then. That was the only enticing thing about it.
14:14 like I said....
Ok, so it's perfect for 1080p recording. They should just slap a big sticker on the side that says that to override prior marketing.
"you're comfortable normally playing in 1440p 120hz and then playing in 1080p60 when you stream"
Honestly this sounds like something a lot of people would like. Not everyone is going to stream everything they do, and being able to have better resolution and refresh rate off-stream without futzing with cables is definitely a value-add. For desktop-style capture equipment like this, a bypass button like this should be standard for exactly the kind of situation you described.
Sure, if all the competing and similarly-priced models didn’t let you just keep your screen at 1440p120
No HDR passthrough?
Man excellent review.. new sub 🤝 firm handshake
I just got one for $50 off eBay . Excited
Harris tested it and said the 4k pass through did work so hope you can get it working
I did get 4k Passthrough working... It's hdr that doesn't work. As stated and confirmed by EVGA.
Cool that's why more heads can be better thank you very much for clarifying
Ah, I’ve been waiting on your review of this.
Nice video. I did end up buying this card today but it was from someone selling it for $80. For that price I went with it :D
Got it for $80 on Amazon, so totally worth it at that price.
So do you recommend it or not I am going to buy it for almost 130$
i feel like everytime i find myself on an epos vox video since way back in the 'how to save your blu ray library' days, im constantly reminded of just how freaking cool of a person you are lol like shit look at that wavebird, and those nails and the neon. cmon leave some cool for the rest of us lol
Bahaha well thanks!
Great video.
Man, you sound like Johnathan Frakes
Just waiting for Elgato to release an HDMI 2.1 4k60 Pro...
Wait sooo not a good device to stream on my pc with..? Should I return it lol
If you’re streaming on the same pc you’re gaming on there’s zero benefit to a capture card
@@EposVox thank you for your response!
Much better than Alpha Gaming review, I wonder how much money El Gato paid him to shit on it.
Great video mate btw.
I’ve got the xr1 and an Xbox series x but I don’t understand how to get the party chat to come through on twitch …
I have Astro A50 headset, where do I have to connect the jack to? I’m a real noob with all of this, please help 🤦♂️😂
"No point buying a capture card for a single pc set up" I'm new to this and trying to get my head around things. Is there a video anyone can point me to where this is explained?
Just search in the videos of this channel about Nvenc
Also i think that the encoder in AMD videocards got an update and it's way better that what is shown in the videos, thats if u have a AMD videocard
So I do have an older video about it but honestly it's not very good and needs re-done.
The gist is that it performs worse than software game capture and doesn't provide any benefits
Thanks for the replies! I'm waiting to pull the trigger on a 3080 (when they're back in stock - maybe 2021 lol). I've edited out the question I had because I'm gonna stop being lazy and watch the damn videos
Thank You for getting that card to work. Watched HarrisHeller trying to get it to work and like you said the instruction were not clear on how that card worked.. I liked the way you broke the card down.. ThANKS mAN..
Damn no hdr?
Nice RuneScape references.
Your description of how the scaled video looks definitely isn’t accurate as clearly it doesn’t look like that here
all i want to know is if this capture card will pass through 1440p 120hrz coming form xbox series x. can anyone here verify that?
It won’t when you are in the capture mode, no. Only in the “advanced passthrough mode” which disables the card
I must've missed a memo. All these dudes on TH-cam out here wearing nail polish. I don't have a problem with it. It's just... interesting...
Attentionwhoring in action.
Looks cool
I like color. That's all. Those of us in creative fields like self-expression. Pretty straightforward
EposVox I mean, rock that shit. It looks good. Like I said, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Just caught me off guard. That’s all. Lol
@Akiwoa imagine calling someone's self-expression "attentionwhoring." The only one begging for attention is you ;)
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT... modern warfare 2 remastered has a multiplayer?!? since when??? what did i miss? is it ps4 only?
This is just normal Modern Warfare Remastered
EposVox thanks for the reply! I totally missed that part. Appreciate it and all the content too!
Xbox one base too right??
Rocking them nails, I’m gonna get my nails painted too.
I was going to buy this until i saw it won’t capture 4K. Thank you
Great review. Great nails. Great beard. 💅👍
The whole painted fingernails thing is cringe, but your info is amazing. Subscribed!
aww yes, I was just thinking about this card, and whether I should get this or the avermedia because I want a USB one, then there is my EposVox video just sitting there waiting on the same day.
It will work fine for Switch, yes.
@@EposVox wow thanks for replying. fair enough tho. I’m pretty new to streaming tech tbh so you probably know better than me. I’m trying to figure out my set up right now. I was just comparing the price to the cheapest options from elgato in which case it seemed good. I didn’t realize there were other options for cheaper. I only just found ur channel and subscribed, so I haven’t seen those reviews but I will check them out, cuz I’m looking for a solution to a frustrating situation. If u have the time Id like to know what you think I should do.

The issue I'm trying to solve is that I have a macbook pro that I use for sound design and music production (I'm an audio engineer) and I was hoping to find a way to Record and stream using my mac so my PC can just focus on gaming. I also have a PS4 that I want to record and stream sometimes as well. The only issue I came across is I can't find any capture cards that are compatible with mac that can also pass through more than 60hz. So I'm starting to think that I just have to settle for 60fps while I'm recording or streaming. But whats your take? Is there any options for even 120hz pass through with a mac? Thanks for your reply again!
PS. I know I'm gonna need more space for recording. I only just built this PC. I do have 2 8TB and I'm going to use one of them for the time being but I have to do a bunch of file transferring and formatting first.
Okay, this is the video I needed. Thank you so much for making this, as I was super stoked originally to get it, but the one feature I was really going for, I'm going to have to go with another capture card because if it cannot passthrough more than 60hz and still capture, yeah I can't go with it.
i am checking amazon but the reviews are making me not want to spend the money, people are saying the quality is very bad but i think people using usb 2.0 ports
This capture card is a dumpster fire. How do you build a capture card you know runs hot without venting it? I have to manually cool the card down to make it work and be stable.
For the sake of the extra $20 - THe HD60S+ is a no brainer unless you can grab a discount
what a pitty no hdmi2.1
We won't see that for a while
@@EposVox yes i know i am digging around since i got one of these lg oled monitors with 4k@120Hz :/
i go back to the roots and stream with a single pc setup ^^
Your monitor also probably doesn't have hdmi 2.1 unfortunately
@@EposVox LG 48CX ^^ and got my 3090 founders today ^^ both have 2.1
I still think the LGP2+ has the best price to performance ratio
ehhhhh? hard disagree. $150-170 for USB 2.0 and terrible quality. The Extreme 2, this on a sale, the Ultra on a sale, or HD60S+ are far better values
@@EposVox why is LGP2+ "terrible?" I really like the onboard encoder and microSD functionality
The quality is just poop compared to what you can get with uncompressed yuy2 or nv12 cards. Meh looking 15mbps footage is not great
