according to the product website: **NOTE: Advanced Pass Through allows you to pass through your monitors native resolution and refresh rate, without having to disconnect the device. Note that there is no capture feature when in advanced pass through mode.**
They sent me one. I reached out to Jacob Freeman and he provided all the questions I needed. the advanced passthrough is just to allow you to play at native res and refresh rate when not streaming/recording.
I honestly hypothesized this was what it was for. Saves having to unhook and rehook all the time. very practical. Went looking in comments to just to see if my guess was right.
That is a feature that makes so little sense it needs to be put in giant bold text. No user is going to assume that using the advertised 1440p passthrough is going to turn off their entire capture card and a ton of people are going to be disappointed when they first try to use it.
I’m guessing their “Advanced Passthrough” is just that. A passthrough. No record capabilities while in advanced passthrough mode. Probably why your computer was seeing the monitor and not the capture device.
But if it was just that it really wouldn't make sense why would you add that feature? there has to be a logical reason for that like maybe not having to unplug the capture card id you want to use your console normally at its full capacity.
@@JIMMY_ALVA Which, IS a feature, just one that they're borderline misleading their customers by not mentioning, because the expected functionality would imply that it captures 1080p WHILE passing through the 144hz signal.
From their web site "The EVGA XR1 Capture Device allows you to share the world with 4K HDR Pass Through Mode - Record at 1080P/60FPS while you game at 4K/60FPS with HDR. No need to disconnect or disable to get the full capabilities of your display!" Interesting how "Pass Through" records, but "Advanced Pass Through" doesn't
My guess is that "advance pass through" means that is just passes through and doesn't capture. So when your not streaming you can game at desired resolution and frame rate. And when you stream you go down for capture and pass through.
Ya might be right but, that would be pretty lame. Just spend the extra $20 and get the Aver Media card, heck the ecosystem alone for the El Gato card makes it a better product imo.

Love how the EVGA has this feature. No to mention I don’t have to move things around or mess with elgato sound capture is a bigger win.
It seems like it's doing what it says it should. It was passing through 1440p120, so it does do 1440p passthrough. It's just not able to capture at the same time, thats likely by design.
Are you going to send it back and see if you can get a replacement from Amazon or are you going to just send it back OR are you going to just throw it in a drawer and count it as a loss? Have you looked at the Roxio Gamer Capture HD pro (which unfortunately is only USB 2.0) or the Razer Ripsaw HD?
I got the Razer Ripsaw HD primarily for the 4k passthrough and it's cheaper than the HD60S. I've had it for a few months now, and it is working flawlessly still! I highly recommend it and have even had some friends pick it up off of my recommendation.
I just bought this today, EVGA must have changed some things in 2 years.. because there is no mention of 'Advanced passthrough" in the documentation. It shows up in the GeForce monitor settings as a second monitor and I could set it to 1440 and 144 hz... Played like that while also capturing .. would like Harris to revisit this device now
I think the point of Advanced Passthrough might be that it passes through without capturing if you just want to play your game at 1440p and you're not streaming, but you turn off Advanced Passthrough to stream 1080p. That's just my guess.
hey bro,, which one should i choose.. ryzen 3700 or 3900 or 10700k ? GPU gonna b rtx 3080 hopefull.. ! for youtube streaming and gaming ! i have one more pc so gona need seprate for streaming u know.. please suggest brother ! ? intel or Amd ?
My bet is the advanced passthrou is for when you dont stream, so you dont have to swap cables if u want the just game... BUT that is a bad feature imo.... i think what they did was they put a switch that disabled the capturecard, and litterly just put the HDMI cables together...

The elgato capped me out at 60hz when my monitors are much higher, tiresome to unplug everything when I’m not recording or streaming just to get my refresh rate and resolution back.
Hey! I tweeted at you for this video! Glad to see it came to fruition!
Now, back to the video!
That AVerMedia Live Gamer Ultra sounds like a good option to me. Being able to capture in 1440p60 while playing at 1440p144 would be very nice
I haven’t gotten mines to pass through at 1440p yet. Obs just says screen can not be resized
JTV Juice Ah dang! I hope it ends up working for you. Thank you for the heads up on that
I got the Razer Ripsaw HD primarily for the 4k passthrough and it's cheaper than the HD60S. I've had it for a few months now, and it is working flawlessly still! I highly recommend it and have even had some friends pick it up off of my recommendation.
Why do none of these companies make capture products with display port???
Is it better for newer streamers to use mobile stream decks? Have you made a video I haven’t seen yet?!?

What’s the cost for this? Just curious
My bet is the advanced passthrou is for when you dont stream, so you dont have to swap cables if u want the just game... BUT that is a bad feature imo.... i think what they did was they put a switch that disabled the capturecard, and litterly just put the HDMI cables together...
I think this video was rushed, Harris didn't know how to use the device, seems like he started the video with a negative bias towards EVGA....
Pedro Guerrero My thoughts exactly. Elgato fanboy
The advanced pass threw only passes the signal but can’t capture anything. This is what the EVGA web site says
Thanks alpha gaming for all the videos! Seriously have helped me learn so much about computers on my commute to work ;)
Has made a huge improvement in my channel and stream.
