  • While visiting Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead Florida, we tasted several mangos including Sia Siam Mango, Torbert Mango, Ivory Mango, Chokanon Mango, Sia Tong Mango, Pim Sen Mun Mango, Keow Savoy Mango, and a Turpentine mango. Fruit and Spice Park is a Miami-Dade County park. Visitors are allowed to eat any fruit, but must not take fruit out of the park or pick any fruit from trees. It is one of our favorite places to visit when we are in Homestead; we go every morning when in the area for an amazing breakfast of fallen fruit. We recommend bringing a cutting board, small fruit knife, and water bottle when visiting.
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees.

I was there on June 23! Loved trying the different mangoes. The Sia Siams were so good. Also the jaboticabas and sapodillas.

I noticed that mangoes in Fruit and Spice park are on the decline. I have visited it four times. 2017, 19, 20 and 21. In 2017 every single mango tree was loaded. Now most of the trees has nothing on them. This year was little bit better than the last year. Maybe some weather related phenomenon.
Also they need to plant some new varieties especially the new Zill varieties which are so much better then what they currently have. Still a good place to visit to see so many tropical fruits.
This year (second week of June) there were so many rose apples on the trees and on the ground that I was surprised.

We noticed much fewer mangos this year as well. F&S recently planted some great Zill varieties in a new area - we saw them when we were there early June. This year seemed to be worse for mangos in homestead than other areas of Florida- but they had a great lychee year.

Sia Siam to my tasteicles had that "not fully cooked banana bread" taste to it. I didnt care for it. But then again it might be a mango that is eaten green. Keo Savoy has that same starchiness when fully ripe.

I have watched several of your videos. Well done. I have my own Orchard in Sebastian Fla. i would really like you to explain your watering system, and how often or not, and time of year, water amounts. That you do on your property. Also, have you ever done a water test to see if it effects your PH in your soil. One last thing, you keep saying S Fla. which town R U actually near. Thanks very much. R.J.

We are in Sarasota. Many of our trees are on a drip to keep them alive during dry weather. We lucky heavily which helps too. Lychees are on a circle of drippers for more irrigation. We also hand water as needed.

that place will make you crazy. So many varieties that taste really good world class even. Try papaya canned w a cinnamon stick.
Speaking of pina colada...... my tree produced 4 dozen this year in its first crop. They seem to take longer to ripen than Carrie and are smaller and although they taste very good I still think Carrie is superior. I will wait 'til the tree puts on some size before final judgment maybe 2 or 3 more seasons God willing. PC seems to have great potential to surpass Carrie and I want nothing more than to find a mango that does!

They just added a bunch of Zill varieties of mango trees too in a new area of the park.
