More important than learning to paint with watercolors I am learning patience, learning to try again and not give up, learning to see the good in my work and not just the flaws. All life lessons! Thanks Kolbie!
Beautiful scene. Generally I just love putting paint on paper. If it turns out well ,then that’s a bonus! I find it just so relaxing and before you know it a couple of hours have gone by….
I'm loving these challenges Kolbie and this one is absolutely beautiful! You are a great teacher, I love your calm and relaxed way of communicating throughout the videos. I'm looking forward to the remaining challenges-Its been fun painting with you!
Love the outcome so much. Its so amazing with the contrast colors and especially the glowing sky.i have not started the 10 day challenge but i will do it soon and i am really loving all the tutorials in this challenge and all are unique in its own way.🤩🤩😊🤗❤💕
Oooh you are absolutely right those complimentary colours are stunning together!! Another beautiful painting that I hope to get to try out soon 🥰❤️ have a lovely rest of ur day Kolbie & thank u again for such a fantastic course! ❤️
What a beautiful, relaxing painting. I have a hard time when painting the sky like this not to have it turn green or have a greenish tint, I’m going to try it your way. Also, if there is a moon, I think I might put in a few stars. Also, I might put in a few whitecaps. Not changing your painting but putting my spin on it. I love beach scenes❤️. Thank you so much for sharing… I’ll be painting this one today!! Again, many thanks!!
I want to start watercolor painting. You’re the only person I follow and I love how soothing your pieces are. I can’t wait to start my painting journey!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! you make landscapes so modern and enticing, I just painted my first one! Can’t wait to paint some of the others.
A perfect weekend tutorial: a peaceful scene, new techniques, but a little easier than yesterday :) Thank you for the reminder of the joy of the experience.
I have always seen people put white in their oceans but I can feel the movement in this piece without any white. Never would have thought waves would feel like waves without the white. Very nice
Looking forward to this one!! I just finished my waterfall and it was hard!! Can’t wait to do this one tomorrow! It looks so peaceful! Thank you for all of these wonderful lessons!
Yes! this was a great scene to paint after some of the previous, more complicated ones :) And I found out how easy it is to overwork the background sky....my paper actually started to crumble a little from too much water and blending and back and forth. There is always something to learn from watercolor :) I really enjoyed painting this scene and I am glad we tackled water again....Thanks Kolbe :)
OMG, after the rocky waterfall, today was sooo soothing. I must say, I'm part mermaid and so the sea feels like home, never intimidating (we shall see when I start on the seascapes challenge). The mountain scumbling was hard, I kept overthinking... Painting the sea - entirely different story - I put in a couple of extra layers, I was just happy throughout... And because it so happened that I was painting this project on the day of the new moon, I managed a crescent - I felt totally empowered to do my own thing, to go outside of the scope and not just follow blindly. And while it's not perfect, it felt that that in itself was the perfection... And the bonus is, I absolutely love the end result. Maybe because I resonate with the subject. this is something I might paint again for the sheer joy I experienced through it. Or I would just paint more of your seascapes. Or both!!!
I loved how peaceful yours look, I guess I really need more practice to achieve a smoother finish. I really struggled with the ocean as I’m more used to acrylics. Thanks for the tutorial. God Bless!
This was relaxing to paint. I thoroughly enjoyed this but I also have me a better appreciate for what I was able to do in the waterfall scene -I have more skills than I realize!
This looks so serene. Completely agree on the fact that more than being realistic, a painting should capture the mood, the feeling. And we are definitely feeling it. Can't wait for office hours to be over to be able to paint this :)
I've realized as I've progressed in my practice (I've been seriously painting since March/April of this year) that I really need to work on creating gradients more. Similar to day 1, I had to start my piece over again after I botched the flow between the two colors. I think all in all in really comes down to my patience which is something I've always struggled with but this was good practice to really look at what I need to practice more in the future. This piece was really lovely in the end and I'm really happy with it! Excited for Sunday! Can't believe we're at the halfway point!
I love oceans and water can be so intimidating. I am excited to get started..... I have been struggling to keep up and complete the paintings one per day. I am not sure if I am the only one not keeping up or if I am working too big but it seems like I keep falling further and further behind.
Beautiful work, as always! I've been letting most of my layers air dry so it's taking me ages to complete these pieces lol but eventually I'll go through all of them. Looking forward to all the water tutorials. Water is still a hard subject for me! I need all the help I can get.
My layers are drying slowly (cold house). So really working on patience. But loving these challenges. There's so many possibilities on what to paint; it sometimes paralyzes me. Having you give me a direction to go is a gift! ~CC Willow.
Wow 🤩 watching you paint this sea scene felt very calming💕 I’m still a bit behind on the challenge, but I can’t wait to paint this one💕💕💕 thanks for this great tutorial🙌🏼💕
Just finished the misty mountains and rocky waterfall, waiting on my 1st layer to dry for today's. I like to watch your tutorials through at least once to know what to expect and the layers that will come up. I am enjoying these lessons so much, thank you. in place and/or with the moon I am thinking of a UFO.
I'm glad that this one was easier. It will probably take me a little while to be able to improve on doing a gradient of complementary colors. Still need to add my moon. I probably could have brought my blue portion down more but I didn't want to struggle with the gradient any more. I love that you've been using some same color combos because I hate wasting paint but never know what to do with my leftover paint.
Ok so I'm still hanging in there.. . The graduated color change on The sky was tricky but I'm pretty pleased with my effort... Thank you for the demo! And for this challenge.
Wonderful lesson! I love painting the ocean. Eager to try your tip for painting blue and orange in separate layers. My PG paint looks more gray than blue, so will experiment with Indigo as well as PG.
Congrats-you’ve won this giveaway! 👏🏼 Send your mailing address to kolbie@thiswritingdesk.com to claim your free copy of my book, Wilderness Watercolor Landscapes! Thank you for your support! ❤️
My first to painting ocean and moon So many thing to learning to painting ocean Thank you so much Wishfull can learning more from you and Wish I can have your gorgeous book
Kolbie, I love the serenity of that color combination. After you turned the moon into a full moon, though, I would have put the light of the moon in the ocean as a sort of shadow - do you have any tutorials that show how to do that? Would it be with the gouache?
Playing catch-up now … this looks like it’s going to be a good challenge for me with gradients so I think it might be a few practice rounds first with the sky colours.
More important than learning to paint with watercolors I am learning patience, learning to try again and not give up, learning to see the good in my work and not just the flaws. All life lessons! Thanks Kolbie!
I love the way you teach, and always explain your color mixing and why you do each step.
Love this simple ocean sea, you take the stress out of all of these challenges!
Loving this calm and peaceful moment by the sea.
Beautiful scene. Generally I just love putting paint on paper. If it turns out well ,then that’s a bonus! I find it just so relaxing and before you know it a couple of hours have gone by….
How peaceful and lovely! Perfect for the weekend. Love how the water looks.
The color gradient is too beautiful. And this calm sea is too realistic. 😍
Wonderful. thank you for the great painting lesson. Also, thank you for impressing on all of us the need to be patient and perfectly imperfect.
I love anything about the ocean. Thank you so much. This is so peaceful.
I'm loving these challenges Kolbie and this one is absolutely beautiful! You are a great teacher, I love your calm and relaxed way of communicating throughout the videos. I'm looking forward to the remaining challenges-Its been fun painting with you!
Sunset and ocean my favorite things to paint. You did a great job. Can't wait to paint this once I am out of the hospital.
Love the outcome so much. Its so amazing with the contrast colors and especially the glowing sky.i have not started the 10 day challenge but i will do it soon and i am really loving all the tutorials in this challenge and all are unique in its own way.🤩🤩😊🤗❤💕
Like the waves the way you paint them. I've tried other ways and get frustrated. Thanks Kolbie for being a real person.
Oooh you are absolutely right those complimentary colours are stunning together!! Another beautiful painting that I hope to get to try out soon 🥰❤️ have a lovely rest of ur day Kolbie & thank u again for such a fantastic course! ❤️

Love this one so simple but beautiful. Thanks so much for doing these for free 😊
Love this scene so much! Watching the moon above a quiet sea is magical and now you gave me courage to actually paint a sea as well!
Yes! Ocean, wave, water.... They are all very challenging for me!
I want to start watercolor painting. You’re the only person I follow and I love how soothing your pieces are. I can’t wait to start my painting journey!
Kolbie! These challenges are so fun. I'm so glad to be painting with you. I've learned so much. Mainly patience, so thank you for that.
I'm obsessed with the ocean and, I love this night sky ocean painting!
Another beautiful painting. Water can be hard to capture but you make it look doable. Thanks for the instructions.
How peaceful. Thank you for this series, I've learned a lot.
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! you make landscapes so modern and enticing, I just painted my first one! Can’t wait to paint some of the others.
Looking forward to this one and trying the ocean. I like brighter colors but I've learned a lot from doing these tutorials
This looks SO CALMING 😍 very beautiful, Kolbie! Can't wait to try this tonight! ✨

This one and the Night Sky are my favourites! Just love the colours in this one! My ocean waves will need more practice lol
This was a great video! I'm going to watch it again once I get my paints out! The colors make me want to be on vacation!
So serene ❤️ I'm really enjoying your Loved and Learned portion of your lessons.
This is has been such a wonderful class! Thank you for all of your hard work and your generosity!

Ok this one was lovely and truly a well-deserved break. I never would have tackled the ocean if you hadn't been holding my hand, thank you!
Amei. Adoro o mar. Sempre um vídeo com muitas dicas. Obrigada 🌻

Can’t believe we are already half way through. Really loving this challenge and learning so much! Thank you!

This was such a nice break from yesterday's challenge. Thanks for taking it easy on us!
Omg just the perfect tutorial for s relaxing weekend 😍 thank you!!
An easier one was needed after the waterfall! Thank you for this challenge I needed a distraction from loose florals & I’m learning a lot.

Beautiful colors! I think I’ll make them a bit more vibrant, I am craving bold colors 😊 Love the challenge sofar, thanks ❤
I love oceans and water can be so intimidating. I am excited to get started..... I have been struggling to keep up and complete the paintings one per day. I am not sure if I am the only one not keeping up or if I am working too big but it seems like I keep falling further and further behind.
It’s ok to take this at your own pace! The videos will always be available ❤️
I always struggle with painting water, thanks for making it look more manageable! 😍
Oceans have made me nervous, too. I've been pleasantly surprised by a couple I have done. I definitely want to give this one a try.

Loved the gradient sky in this one!
Wow 🤩 watching you paint this sea scene felt very calming💕 I’m still a bit behind on the challenge, but I can’t wait to paint this one💕💕💕 thanks for this great tutorial🙌🏼💕
Loved and Learned has helped me so much mentally/emotionally
Beautiful! You make it look so effortless ❤️

I’m a week late but really enjoyed watching this one. Definitely watching it again!

Love the colour combination ♥️✨
Really excited to try this landscape out! Your suggested reference photos look really fun too!
Another great tutorial. Looking forward to trying the quiet sea.
Ok so I'm still hanging in there.. . The graduated color change on The sky was tricky but I'm pretty pleased with my effort... Thank you for the demo! And for this challenge.
Love this. Hope you do more on painting water. Also would love a session on painting clouds.
Thank you so much for doing these, really looking forward to giving this one a go 😊
This one reminds me of the class you taught at Creative Summer Retreat, when I first discovered you! Excited to do a calmer piece, haha
Yay! Half way through! Can’t wait to try this one.

My first to painting ocean and moon
So many thing to learning to painting ocean
Thank you so much
Wishfull can learning more from you and Wish I can have your gorgeous book
I loved today’s tutorial. Simple and serene. Can’t wait to get started on it.
Such a gorgeous tutorial. It reminds me of the great tutorial you made during the creative summer retreat !
I love the colors in this one
This one will hopefully be less stressful than the previous one. I never imagined that rocks were so hard to paint. Let this calm sea calm my heart 🤣
Kolbie, I love the serenity of that color combination. After you turned the moon into a full moon, though, I would have put the light of the moon in the ocean as a sort of shadow - do you have any tutorials that show how to do that? Would it be with the gouache?
Oh I need peaceful simplicity after yesterday’s waterfall!
I’ve been longing for the ocean in lockdown life. This is so peaceful 💙
That peachy pink color is just so beautiful! This is such a stunning ocean scene!!
Playing catch-up now … this looks like it’s going to be a good challenge for me with gradients so I think it might be a few practice rounds first with the sky colours.
This is a beautiful painting!
Thank you... loved it... going to practice gradients as my layers dry...
The sea is still quite a challenge for me, but thanks for the tutorial, will try to break it into layers :)
Loving this challenge! Thank you, Kolbie!
So serene. Absolutely stunning, loved the orange orange color. When I add water again to any part that color reactivates.🙁
Maybe let it dry for longer! Could also be the paint quality-sometimes student grade paint isn’t as permanent!
Loving these challenges! Still catching up, but loving it!
The ocean and gradient was hard for me🤦🏽♀️ but as always, I learned them through this tutorial and will definitely practice more.
