    Its best to have the Catch can below the vacuum line because the oil will buildup in the line instead of the can...great video

    Hey Danny, I know this is an old video but I have just started looking into this.
    I see that in every other video, not necessarily just for our cars, that they orient the inlet and outlet the opposite of how you did it. They have the hose from the pcv valve going into the side of the catch can with the little filter then the hose going back out from the side without the little filter.
    I generally like to refer to you as a source for our cars so I just wanted to go over this.

      Since this video was made, JLT has changed their instructions, from what I can tell, to screen the oil out of the air as it drops into the can. That way the oil is heavier as a droplet and drips into the can. I don’t like the idea of having a pool of oil with nothing to prevent it from getting sucked into the engine. I believe their first instructions were so the oil would be skimmed off as it leaves the can. It makes more sense for the oil to freely drop into the can and then be skimmed off on the way out. The truth is they should have mesh on both the inlet and outlet like other, more expensive cans

      @@dannyjohnsonsgarage that's a good point. That a tough one, perhaps I'll buy a universal can from elsewhere.

    You want the "pre-filter" on each valve cover, feeding a T fitting, that then goes into the inlet of the catch can, the outlet of which connects to a reduced level of engine vacuum. It doesn't take the full 25 inches of vacuum (at idle) to do the job, Best solution is to have a drain at the bottom of the can feeding back into the oil pan, or a bigger reservoir you can empty occasionally.

    My 2001 mustang smokes white on startup. It goes away after it’s warmed up. Will a catch can fix this? Thanks

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s pretty common when valve seats start to leak. Not a big concern, but a catch can won’t really fix it

    Question can you not use 2 pre filters?

  • @Vel0zity09

    Hey Danny, I was wondering if that catch can was specific to the driver side. I went to american muscle and their JLT 3.0 can looks like it’s on the passenger side. When I asked them about it they said they didn’t have one for the driver side.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do the same thing, but their kit is probably fitted for driver side and another one for passenger. It seems they have changed their mind on which side the mesh screen is on.

    • @Vel0zity09

      @@dannyjohnsonsgarage so I could just swap the lines and it should be fine on the driver right? I appreciate your time good sir.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it should be the same can. It should have the mesh screen on the side that goes back into the intake, but they apparently changed their mind or the instructions so who knows

  • @ThePSO51
    @ThePSO51 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does it matter if the pre-filter is o the driver side? And the can setup on the passenger side?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use either, but it’s recommended to have a catch can on the driver side- and they have stopped selling pre-filters and want you to buy two catch cans now (maybe it’s marketing and sales tactics lol)

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

      Frank Biondo JLT catch can on the driver side and JLT Pre-filter on the passenger side

    • @deuce6868
      @deuce6868 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see the pre filter on the passenger side that goes to the intake but on the drivers side it looks like you have a 90 going to the catch can or a pcv valve going to the catch can I don't see the pre filter on the drivers side...

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Frank Biondo if you watch it closely you'll see how it's routed. It doesn't matter which end is 90* but more which hose is coming in the side without the screen but exiting the side that has the screen
