  • You might have seen my previous video where I reviewed the MIDIKalimba prototype from Peacock Media. Now, the production model is shipping and ‪@midi_in‬ sent me one to check out. I like the new interface and firmware a lot. The new tine layout is really intuitive as well.

Thanks for checking it out. I feel like this one is one that you really have to use to understand but the interface is just so immediate and so intuitive. I really like it.

This could be cool affixed to a guitar so you could play both on stage if you did public performances.

Oooh. That's a really good idea. I knew a guy who taped a Korg Kaoss Pad to his guitar for similar purposed but I think the MIDIKalibma would be better. Great suggestion.

@musicalmiscellany strangely, I just heard about people doing that this week (the korg being strapped onto a guitar)

That sounds amazing. One silly question... you've got power going in, but from where? Battery? Computer? and where is the sound coming out of? Computer? Amplifier?

Thanks for checking out the video. You might want to watch the first one (link in description) because I go over all that but here's the short answer.
The MIDIKalimba has 2 data ports: USB MIDI and 3.5mm TRS MIDI. The USB jack provides power and MIDI connectivity. The TRS jack provides MIDI connectivity only. So if you use the TRS jack, you must still power the unit with USB (5V power). In this case, I'm using the USB cable into my computer to both power the unit and provide a softsynth program (Alchemy) to produce the sounds you're hearing. I hope that all made sense.
