We cook for ours after they are 2 years old. Have always had Dals since I was a teen, currently have a 3 month old along with a 6 month old Pyrenees cross and a 14 year old lab. Once a week we cook 2 big 5 gallon pots of stew , chicken, fish, potatoes, yam, carrots, apples and some bacon and fresh bread. Just remember vitamin supplement if you do cook fresh to make sure theyre getting all they need. Never had any issue with crystals or digestion.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting as well as the heads up. I read that some believe that Dalmatians originated from the pairing of a Harlequin Great Dane and a Short Haired Pointer. More recently I've read that DNA testing of purebred Dalmatians doesn't match any dog breed. Thanks again for the heads up and stopping by
Actually Great Danes were never used to develop Dalmatian's the earliest they date back is in the 1300s and they were discovered in the pyramids theirs drawings of Dalmatian dogs. Short Haired Pointers were used in the 90s known as the Dalmatian back-cross project for a new typing for the Dalmatian LUA Dalmatians @@TeamSmokey0605
Hey I just got a dalmatian puppy for the first time ever I have a 14-year-old ply hound always fed him origin regional red. The puppy has been eating that right now and after doing some reading and wondering if this is a good choice for him I was hoping to get your input on what you think is a good food source I could give him
@@RebelforAll Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Smokey was a fussy puppy. He would eat something for about a week and then ignore it. We would try something new and he would just scarf it down and then throw up. So I guess my first bit of advice would be that if your Pup is eating and and not having any GI issues (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) I would stick with that until they are at least 3-4 months old, that is when Smokey really started growing. When you or your puppy decide it's time for something new, introduce it slowly over a period of days. Our vet gave us a 25% rule because Smokey was so sensitive to new foods. For example, Day 1 of the new food you would give 25% of the new food and 75% of what they are used to. Day 2 would be 50% new food, 50% of what they are used to. Day 3 would be 75% percent new food, 25% what they are used, and finally Day 4 would be 100% the new food. This gives the Puppies digestive system some time to adjust to the new food and you can adjust the percentages and number of days based on you and your puppy. As far as suggestions, the biggest one is stay away from red meat, specifically beef. Dalmatians have a sensitive urinary system and can develop stones in their urinary tract from beef. Stick with fish and poultry. Smokey likes chicken, duck, salmon and tuna. (Duck and Salmon give him nasty gas though). In a normal day Smokey will get a hard boiled egg for breakfast, plain chicken tenders and sweet potato fries (baked in the oven with a touch of olive oil) for lunch with some fruits and vegetables thrown in during the day as snacks. Smokey loves apples, baby carrots (great frozen during the summer and when teething) cucumbers, zucchini, and pumpkin. We also make sure he gets plenty of water and leave a bowl of Merrick Chicken and Sweet Potato dog food out for him to "graze" over the course of the day when I'm working. Sorry for the long somewhat "generic" reply, but every dog is different and it's always a good idea to discuss your pups nutrition with your veterinarian.
@@RebelforAll please watch the Purines (protein) please. It’s a problem with Dalmatias. Chicken, turkey, salmon are very good and low in purines. Good luck. I’ve had a few dals in my life. Don’t forget to start running them after a year old. Any earlier you’re going to wear its joints out. Note that they run with horses up to 14 or more miles. Look up trial riding with dals. Otherwise they are like labs . I’ve had a few of also. Godspeed to you and your puppy. They so lovable (not just dals) .

Salmon? Mine loves it. Home made (no salt) 😮extra diluted chicken soup helps me keep my Dal hydrated.
Sounds Great. Smokey loves Tuna mixed with the chicken tenders and sweet potatoes we make for him
