    I've never read a book so fast! th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU Learning about his dogs and experiences was just the icing on the cake - bed this book through and through. We're working with our new pup and Brandon's advise was just what I needed. Wish he'd just come and train for me haha but it's good for us and happy to have this new set of tools to use on our pup.

    I love his show and thisjust summarizes and lays out all of the basic methods he uses on the show. What i love about this guide th-cam.com/users/postUgkxKkYeOoCV_w2vPX0CSyVWkhew2c4FYk0d is that you don' need to read the whole book cover to cover ... You can skip to the chapter (lesson) you want to read about. The book is arranged almost as a problem-solving guide ... Here is the problem and here is what you need to know/do to correct it. This man knows his stuff ... But more importantly knows how to teach people how they can work with their pups themselves!

    As a veterinary professional, I really enjoyed your video and your nutritional information. Only one minor correction that I think you would like to know: dogs are omnivores not carnivores. Their intestinal tract is actually longer than obligatory carnivores like cats but shorter than an herbivore's tract like a sheep or horse. That extra length allows them to process plant material as well as meat. There have even been studies of wolves in the wild that have found that they regularly eat plants, berries, and grains growing wild in addition to the plant material in their prey's stomach. You're absolutely right that meat should be the # 1 ingredient in your dog food, but vegetables and a small amount of carbohydrates are also important for dogs. Their carbohydrate requirement is much lower than what is in most dog foods, but some whole grain ingredient is important for fiber and digestion. But yes most dog food companies use carbohydrates as cheap fillers (and way too much of it) and if it's not a whole grain variety it does not have any nutritional value. Thank you for all the research you put into this video! : ) ♥️ And I love the way you broke down how each type of food is processed!

      @LC what are your thoughts on Stella and Chewy’s wholesome grains? 🐶😃

    • @LC-1748
      @LC-1748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@user-ew3sp1hl6q Did you have a specific formula (flavor) in mind? Each recipe has different ingredients... If your sweet dog has any health concerns your vet can help you pick a diet tailored to his/her needs. And the first thing I ask a client when they want a food recommendation is what brand they are partial to. We can often look through the ingredients of different recipes to find one that their pet likes and avoids ingredients we know the pet is sensitive to. Also be aware of brands who's recipes include all life stages. Puppies, adults, and senior dogs all have different dietary requirements and their food should reflect that. I hope that helps. : ) I'm sorry if this answer wasn't specific enough, that brand makes several varieties of dog food. They seem to have quality ingredients, and I like that they are pea and lentil free for the ones I saw. Some studies have suggested that peas and lentils can contribute to canine heart disease (DCM). However I am also concerned that the ones I saw were for all life stages... Unfortunately without knowing the pet requiring the food it's difficult to make a recommendation. But during your next vet visit don't be shy to bring a bag of dog food (or the label) and ask the vet or a knowledgeable technician if they think these ingredients are right for your pet or if they recommend something else. Most staff are happy to give a recommendation and tell you what they fed their pets. : ) And believe me, anyone in the veterinary field learns quickly which foods create problems and which foods have a positive affect. As a pet parent it's wonderful that you are your pet's advocate and you take their food choices seriously. I'm sure you'll make a good decision for you baby. : )
      Edit: after doing more research, I did find that many of their recipes have specific life stages. I'm by no means saying I think it's a bad food. I like many of their key ingredients. Just check with your vet to be sure and check any labels for life stage to make sure it fits your dog's stage. : )

      is the best way to keep your dog healthy and cancer free.

    • @LC-1748
      @LC-1748 2 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      @@maureenpiccirillo1586 I'm not against raw feeding at all. I fed my own dog a freeze dried food that I rehydrated before feeding until recently in his old age (he's 13) he now requires a prescription diet. I don't understand why you thought I would be against raw food... I'm just cautious of any food cooked or raw that is labeled for all life stages. People have to live with their pet, and with the decisions they make about their pet's diet. Unless it's obviously harmful I don't try to sway owners either way. I offer the pros and cons of each diet and help them come to an informed decision. After all, they are also the ones paying for their pet's food. So I don't pressure them into foods that are not in their budget. It's all a balance of their pet's health, the owner's budget, the owners comfort zone and preferences, and the pet's preferences. : )

    This was fantastic! Love love loved this video! Thank you for going over all categories. I had switched my morkie poo around 3 months from science hill kibble, to DIY homemade, to now dehydrated food. I didn't have any time after awhile in making his food and buying raw was getting a little more expensive. For now, my 11 month old pup has been eating dehydrated food. Keep in mind, he WAS a picky eater. It really helped get super informed about dog food. People would tell me, "He's a dog and kibble cleans their teeth." When in reality, he's a dog that needs attention just as humans in regards to their diets.
    Keep these coming - these topics are sooo important now more than ever! BTW - I got the yak milk treats BEST thing ever! My dog is 15 pounds for reference and has never chewed furniture or anything in the house because mental stimulation is KEY along with training. Those yaks are worth it! 😁

    Very timely video! Dogfood is changing now. I loved the matrix ratings and wondered the final rating numbers for each category. I'll try to freeze frame and do the math myself. Kibble 21, Canned 21, Freeze dried 22, Air Dried 23, Cooked 13, Raw 14, DIY 10 ... maybe you could add nutrition rating to create more rounded rating?
    Also thought you were going to add your preferences at the end of the video - but didn't see it. I know shorter videos are more viewed - I see the list linked.

    Being a truck driver I have found it it's definitely very hard to go Raw. So I am very grateful for this video. So far what I have settled upon is K-9 Naturals freeze dried food. I started her on that at eight weeks and she is now 20 weeks old. I have been very impressed with her overall performance all the time. Her mood is great. And you're right about her not eating as much as she would from normal brand kibble. I do hope there's nothing that I have missed. But if there is anything negative that I need to pay attention to about this food I would love your input.

    When I adopted my pug puppy I was determined to give him the absolute best food available. I started feeding him fresh raw from a very reputable brand (Big Country Raw) as this is what his previous owner was already feeding him. However, he started having GI and reflux issues instantly. I kept feeding this to him, thinking it must be his breed, maybe I was feeding him too much at a time, maybe he needed to rest after feeding him, etc. Nothing I did made any difference, he continued to struggle. To make a very long story short, I ended up switching to three different brands Smack (air-dried raw), The Honest Kitchen, and First Mate canned. He also gets cooked eggs, canned sardines, and some fresh gently cooked meat as toppers. His GI issues and reflux are completely gone. He sleeps better because he is no longer uncomfortable. As much as I am an advocate for fresh raw, I do not think it's for every dog. I am not sure if it's the breed ( pugs are known for having very sensitive stomachs) but this is definitely working much better than the fresh raw.

      @@RachelFusaro Our high energy Boykin Spaniel pup at full grown is only going to be 35-40lbs. Personally, I don’t want to spend more than $75 monthly on food (we are at $55 right now on Purina). We buy so many toys and treats, I want to be sure to still have room for that! I’d love to keep it as affordable as possible - thanks

      I would go with Bixbi kibble as I believe it is the best dry kibble on the market. Also should be within your budget. Add in some supplements from Native Pet (Omega Oil), treats from Dr. Becker (Beckers Bites), and all natural Bully Sticks from Safety Chew and you should have a happy and healthy pup. Good luck!

    • @playwithme30

      Instinct is an awesome brand. The only downside to instinct is they use some vitamin packs. As opposed to brands like primal, oc raw, answers ect. But by no means does that make instinct a bad brand. If I were you I would consider adding in more proteins. The more protein changes you do the less likely your dog will develop an intolerance for a specific protein.

    Thank you for these vids. Amazing! Ive been using Northwest Naturals. Ive been using for about 9 years or more. When my local feed store changed owership they lost there contract with NWN and i couldn't find NWN so i had to change to Stella frozen raw while the new owner worked to get a new contract with NWN and get set up. Unfortunately because of that change in food my pitty became very sick and had to be put down from some digestive problems. It was a horrible lose for me. My other 2 dogs made it threw it. We are now back on NWN and i have a new pitty pup i have him on NWN .

I am considering Carna4 as it is synthetic free and is dehydrated , baked and air dried. I have also been suggested to check out Grand Cru. Any suggestions

    I know this video is from awhile ago. I was making fresh cooked food for my 2 year American Eskimo. Then started adding bone meal and dried eggshells for calcium as instructed by recipe in book. My dog developed sores on muzzle and ears. The vet felt it was due to to much calcium due to her breed and I was told to go back to kibble for 80% and a couple tbls fresh cooked meat. After a round of antibiotics and steroids she recovered. I now give her Nulo brand kibble, how do you rate this kibble. Also she gained weight on the kibble even cutting her quantity in half. She always seems hungry, I add vegetables to try and fill her up.

    Hi Rachel, thanks for doing these I know a lot of people have asked over and over. Bones and Co is hard to come by where we live and while he is a pup I would have to feed more of it and it’s a bit pricey. We feed the farmers dog diy plan right now. They give you puppy specific recipes but I’m kinda concerned about the amount of veggies in it. There is also only one recipe with organ meat but it has white rice in it so I avoid the rice recipes.
