Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells
My favorite line is "No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun." Honestly it's kinda relatable and it opens the way into the solo so it's my favorite line or lyric or words ever. Kinda.
That line in particular makes me cry every time. Because lately, the nostalgia of my childhood has been hitting me really hard and I wish so desperately that I could go back. I am so grateful for what I have had, but wish I could have understood how precious time was in those moments. I love this band so much.

I credit this song for turning my life around. I wasn't doing well in school and one night while "Inebriated", I actually listened to the lyrics, and it scared the hell out of me. I buckled down and changed the course I was on. Made a good life for myself.

“No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun” is the most admirable things to be said it’s quiet literally explaining how you wasted and now you face the facts makes the solo sound like your crippling away
My dad loved this song, listening to it makes me feel like he and I were by the warm fire in the cool weather only hearing the fire crackle the last time I saw him for the accident. Something told me I would not see him again, but of course I ignored it and thought it was a ridiculous thought. Surely he’d live a lot longer and I’d have so much more time with him right? No, it’s been almost two years now and I still can’t handle the reality that he’s gone. He was everything to me. He knew me more than anyone else did because I was just like him. But sadly we all come short of realizing time is limited and not everyone has the same amount of it. Stop worrying about the past and stop worrying about the future, all that is in your control and what you should be focusing on is the present. Enjoy every lasting moment because it could be yours or someone you else’s last. I hope everyone one gets a chance to listen to this song, it’s one of the absolute best songs for the soul.
I'm so sorry for your loss. And thank you for your beautiful words. The little silver lining I think is that the ones we lost can live on when we hear a song such as Time... with the tick tock between verses a quiet reminder of our own limits. ❤
It’s weird, I had the same thoughts and feelings when my dad died. As if I knew he was going and that was the last time I would see him, but powerless. Odd phenomenon.
I'm the youngest of 12. I'm 54 now. My father was born in 1917. So I knew what I had by having a father old enough to be my grandfather. All of the wisdom and skills that my father passed on to me is priceless. That could not of happened if I had a father who would have been considered age appropriate to someone born in 1970.
I find it amazing how such a song was written by someone in his twenties. It's a wonderful song, both due to its lyrics and the music. Simply incredible and meaningful!
Me and my dad LOVED this song.❤ One great memory of it is when my dad had his machine shop in industrial area and late in the evening he rolled up the doors played the first 5 minutes of drum intro full blast and the way it echoed down the street was amazing! We listened and drummed on the table each time he replayed it. He passed in 2014 from lung cancer. Great memories...miss you dad. ❤
Such a sweet memory thank you for sharing!! My dad works in a machine shop and loves Pink Floyd also, sorry about your dad ❤ I'll be so devastated when my parents go. I wish we could keep them forever ❤
@@dwaynehoward3569 thanks for sharing that, and sorry about your dad 😔 at least we do in fact get to keep our memories, you were lucky to have your dad
I thank him for his service: Fun Fact: The U.S. Air Force is the WORLD'S largest air force, The WORLD'S next largest air force: The U.S. Navy!! If shit needs blown up in a hurry, from the sea OR the air..Navy's got the job done already!
Joined the Navy with little self-respect. Ran with a tough crowd. Came home a man and made something of myself. The Navy set the path to success for me.
I was listening to this as a teen 'ten years have got behind you' seemed crazy to me that that amount of time could slip away almost unnoticed! Well, nearly 40 years have slipped by since then..........
This song, specially this song turn my whole life into this band... I remember the exact moment when i heard it and went totally blown away, almost like i was leaving my own body.
I was 14 and smoking weed for the first time ever. Some random kid that I had just met at the beach was passing me the pipe and asked if I had ever heard Time by Pink Floyd, I was really into punk rock at the time and hadn’t yet developed the taste for this style of music. When I told him no, he pulled his iPod and headphones out and stuck both the buds in my ears and said close your eyes real quick, and I heard the ticking start.. absolutely melted my mind. I spent the rest of my vacation, almost another week, borrowing this kids iPod to play this album. If you’re out there Brian, thanks for tuning me in, man.
This IS one of the greatest solos ever, and so is the one in 'Comfortably numb', but how about 'On the turning away', or 'Pigs (three different ones)', they've got so many!
But for some reason, this song is completely uninteresting melodically, harmonically, and performively. Boring pretentious nonsense, stuffed with sound engineering tricks
These lyrics are so amazing. PF was and still are so far ahead of their time. It’s been 50 years and they are still ahead of today’s music. PF were the greatest musicians of all time
Song got me watering in my eyes as my dad loves Pink Floyd and i lost him a few years ago, never thought how much this band was probably a part of his youth as he was early twenties listening to this, I miss him wandering around the house singing abba pet shop boys or Pink Floyd
This song is a masterpiece that will instantly bring back everything you heard about this even if you haven't heard it for hundreds of years, and the lyrics are even more deeply rooted in your bones, reflecting harsh reality.
The target audience for this song keeps getting younger and younger. Songs about getting older are hitting hard for people in their early-to-mid 20s in the current climate, in which the youth aren't endowed with the same fortunes and hopes as the older generation. A lot of today's 25-year olds are living with their parents, yet to find love and acceptance and struggling to make ends meet so they can save up to move out of their homes. Dear commenter, you are incredibly lucky to have grown up in an era which has allowed you to experience the amenities of adulthood head-on. In that regard you made the start just fine. I, a young man from Generation Z, didn't know how badly I needed to hear this until yesterday, when I listened to the album start to finish.
I can remember riding with my step father and this being played on Z93 and 96 rock in Atlanta. They were the best band alive imo. I still feel the same way. Thanks Eric for introducing me to music that was before my time... I'll show it to my kids you never got a chance to meet. Until next time. Rip.
I would so like to be hearing this for the first time again, with the shock of those alarms going off unexpectedly. But now I'm 60 and sitting at home, convalescing from my first (and hopefully only) heart attack, frittering away the hours in an offhand way listening to "Time". Thanks for the music Pink Floyd (with a special shout out to Alan Parsons and Lesley Duncan)

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
Home, home again

And when I come home cold and tired

Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

Odd phenomenon.
he's living through you. make him proud.
God bless you brother ❤❤
You are great son
This song has TERRIFYING lyrics, yet that's what makes this song so powerful.
“I’m on the top of the building”
Greatest album ever recorded by any group.
Said that to my young grandson, he said " in your view it might be", then I made him listen to it............
@@etplantation here we go
No doubt! I
Turned 61 today . This is my treat for the day ! I go to RedRocks in Colorado every year to hear Britfloyd .
I’m 70 years young me and my 12 year old daughter listen to this and endless river
A daughter at 58 - congratulations, Charlie Chapplin would be proud of you.
Ooooo, Endless River is such an underrated album.
Yeah the emdless river that all of us will going through
I’ll be 60 in September, I’ve got a 17 month old daughter. I’ve often wondered what it’s gonna be like later on
I'm the youngest of 12. I'm 54 now. My father was born in 1917. So I knew what I had by having a father old enough to be my grandfather. All of the wisdom and skills that my father passed on to me is priceless. That could not of happened if I had a father who would have been considered age appropriate to someone born in 1970.
In my humble opinion this is the best album of all time
❤❤❤❤❤❤реально..... Так. И. Есть.......😮
Totalmente de acuerdo
Me and my dad have a simalar story
Death causes wounds that never truly heal,Love creates memories that Time will never steal. Lost my Dad a long time ago.
@@dwaynehoward3569 thanks for sharing that, and sorry about your dad 😔 at least we do in fact get to keep our memories, you were lucky to have your dad
Great song. Perfect harmony and lyrics with a deep philosophical and existential transcendence.
I was 23 when this album came out. Still listening 50 years later...
glad you're still here enjoying this masterpiece! im 24 but have been listening my entire life and will continue to until the day i die

I turned 18 in October and I'm glad my dad taught me good music.

One of the greatest rock songs ever written.
My mother's favorite album. Played it every day beginning to end until she passed away at 90. She was a brilliant woman.
❤
Did you by chance make that your mom's favorite? Remarkable. Sounds like ya had excellent parenting. Glad ya had all that TIME with her.
god bless you and ur mother bro ❤️
Thank you@@trxy3609

Una sola palabra que define esta obra maestra :ATEMPORAL.
Estoy de acuerdo. Para mí, pink floyd es lo máximo 🌟⭐🌈
Es increíble como después de varias décadas aún se escucha actual.

50 Years ago today.. Simply Perfection
True that, but it was a year in the making and without Alan Parsons magical engineering.....i wonder ?
Listened to this song the day my son swore into the Navy. His favorite song. Cried all day. I now love this song.
@@jimhughson5798 Fuck Yeah! Go Navy!
I have reached such point in my life that this song is so very relevant... Regardless of your current age, please take note ! ! !
I was listening to this as a teen 'ten years have got behind you' seemed crazy to me that that amount of time could slip away almost unnoticed!
Well, nearly 40 years have slipped by since then..........
Absolutely ..... 40 years have passed 😢
Yes .... I think we take life for granted.. then 40 years have gone behind you 😢 keep moving!!!!!
No one compares this.
Just a few things brother
This song, specially this song turn my whole life into this band... I remember the exact moment when i heard it and went totally blown away, almost like i was leaving my own body.
the exact same experience
I fell in love with her when my rabbit got sick, unfortunately he is no longer here, if he was just a rabbit, just like a simple epic song
First heard this song as a little kid cause my dad loved classic rock. Now I'm graduating, and I finally understand this song.
Sometimes it takes a minute but you will get it. Good on you mate. Now share what you know.
Well done, in comparison I have done nothing in particular for like 20 years. I'll pay for this.
Good moment bro !
My dad introduced Pink Floyd to me and I love this song but I’m still a kid
나를 구렁텅이에서 깨어나게 해준 노래..... 이곡을 들은후 참 많은 생각을했고 움직였다
Massa, viva❤❤❤
Still one of the 'Heaviest" songs Ever !
This song puts a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.
They were truly ahead of their time!!
This is perhaps the greatest solo of all time. People usually say it's "Comfortably Numb" but for new this one is way above everything else.
This IS one of the greatest solos ever, and so is the one in 'Comfortably numb', but how about 'On the turning away', or 'Pigs (three different ones)', they've got so many!
This one is beyond great, but mate, have you heard all the versions of the Solo from CN?
@@domination98mta51 Time solo in the Gdansk version is so great
@@lordraj365 have to agree lol❤
What about the solo in Alexander The Great by Iron Maiden? So underrated
I hereby declare this to be my all time favorite song. It's not only beautifully composed, but it speaks to me on a very deep, spiritual level.
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire...
If ur listening to this in 2024 u got great taste in music
gotta celebrate and cherish this album
i listen to this shit daily son lol
I first read this as magic. But either way is still true
Thanks

Oh by the way, which one's pink?"
Listening to this blasting on a sport bike is phenomenal 🫶❤️🏍️💨
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. This album is classic. Forever. From a time albums were much more important than singles.
I’m here in all my seventies glory! Good listening!
One of the best songs ever written.

PF were the greatest musicians of all time
Fabulosos Pink Floyd
Miguel, definitely agree.
PINK FLOYD IS another level.
It's just unearthly music...
Это точно.Мне 67 а я все ещё хочу и могу но свою Супругу.Мусью.
2:18 best start ever
Bro on psychadelics that shit hits sooooooooooooooo hard. Incredible
I've been watching "first time reactions " to floyd lately. its been fun watching others have their minds blown...
❤PINK FLOYD❤
Com certeza ❤
My dad had this at his funeral when his coffin was brought into the church. 3 years gone, I miss you eternally with my whole heart and soul ♥️
Hugs ❤
Song got me watering in my eyes as my dad loves Pink Floyd and i lost him a few years ago, never thought how much this band was probably a part of his youth as he was early twenties listening to this, I miss him wandering around the house singing abba pet shop boys or Pink Floyd
Gilmour litteraly plays 2 notes in this solo, and i've already got goosebumps!!!
This song is a masterpiece that will instantly bring back everything you heard about this even if you haven't heard it for hundreds of years, and the lyrics are even more deeply rooted in your bones, reflecting harsh reality.
Pink Floyd one of the greatest rock bands of all time and this is one of their greatest songs!
Now at 55 this song has so much more meaning. Absoultley powerful! How a bunch of young guys could feel this blows my mind.
This is it. The greatest song of all time
My papa’s favourite song. He’s gone forever, but the song is here and will always remind me of him. I love you papa ♥️
My favorite song from this album... 🖤
Same with me
How did they come up with the name?
I smoked a joint and listened to this song I just wanna say pink Floyd thank you for boosting my high to a astronomical level
I can remember riding with my step father and this being played on Z93 and 96 rock in Atlanta. They were the best band alive imo. I still feel the same way. Thanks Eric for introducing me to music that was before my time... I'll show it to my kids you never got a chance to meet. Until next time. Rip.
When I close my eyes and I listen this song , I travel out of my mind and my soul . 🎸
I'm wishing better days ahead for you, Jim 🙂
Keep strong man, dont give up
Ты молодец что держишься привет из России так держать.
Wishing you a fast and great recovery to keep listening to this masterpiece of a band. All the best!
