My son passed away on February 07 2020 in a motorcycle accident he was only 26. We went to see Roger Waters in concert together and listened to this song in the car. We both love Pink Floyd’s music. I miss you so much Ricky. One day we will be together again Love you ma ❤️
Arid thank you so much, it means a lot to me that you took the time to write this message. I was thinking about my son right now instead of focusing on work, for some reason I grabbed my iPad and your comment pop out on the screen, I feel like my son is speaking to me through you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are an angel!
norfside lord thank you so much, I just saw your message. Ricky was wonderful loving and caring son full of life, he was loved by some many people all ages. I can’t describe the pain I’m still going through but as crazy it may sound he is helping me heel I can feel it. I will like to share with you three things I learned from my son Love, Smile and Live to the fullest! 🙏
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Grief for loved one never goes away, it just change shape over time, but happy memories, who also stays, are unchangeable. Lean on them, they are precious.
My brother also graduated in 74 and I remember him getting in trouble from my parents when he brought this album home. My parents accused of him of smoking weed and said this was devil music. Ha ha
Back around 2009, I remember being in an incredibly dark place and feeling completely alone. One night, having reached a breaking point, I decided to take a long walk away from the house, during a gentle snowfall. As this song played in my headset, I aimlessly passed homes with beautiful holiday lights until I unexpectedly ended up on a clifftop with a full view of the ocean. Sitting alone near the ocean at night, with the wonderful lights and gentle snowfall around me, all while listening to this song (on repeat), a sense of clarity and reassurance emerged. Despite feeling extremely alone and hopeless, this song (for some reason) gave me the chance to take a deep breath and be with my own thoughts. In many ways, it saved my life* It was a defining moment in my life and I'll always associate this song with that night. It's been awesome reading all of the ways this song was a part of your life, in one way or another :) *sorry if I'm being dramatic, but it's kinda true.
I was in the darkest place of my life in 2019 and there seemed to be no escape. I reached the lowest of lows so many times and thought there would be no end. I had several songs to help me along, but the best dream I've ever had completely flipped the script and turned the tide in my favour and within 2 months all my pain and suffering was over. And now with COVID on the loose I find myself in somewhat similar circumstances. I credit my dream with saving my life because I seriously considered ending it because I thought I can't give up but how can I win? I got some help from the supernatural and I find this is a great song to help rid myself of depressing emotions. We gotta keep the faith. We're both well-equipped to deal with whatever life throws us next. Stay strong 💪
That is so beautiful... Although nothing compared to your experience, this song also reminds me of a very powerful moment in my life. Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you all the very best, sincerely!
Amazing bro. For me, also in a dark place and all that. Until I found myself cycling along the coast under the hot summer sun, had this playing on my phone.... And suddenly I had this realisation that everything was ok. It was a defining moment of my life. I shall never forget it.
i am so glad you found some peace bale, you are not being dramatic bale you are being a hero. you shareing your story is really brave and gives hope and solidarity to the rest of us going through difficult times, thanktou and peace be with you x
Lightning strikes! All four lads on fire, plus Dick Parry's saxophone, Claire Tory's inspired vocal solo, great backing vocals, Alan Parsons producing, and perhaps that many of the songs had already been written, and had been simmering for a while, ready for perfecting in the studio.
The Beatles are great. The Stones endure. Dark Side of the Moon is hands down the greatest piece of rock art ever created. And it will never be surpassed.
Darkside is awesome, my senior yr in high school was the year it leaked as the soundtrack to the wizard of oz, so Fukn cool. The wall is right there though, saw Roger do the 30th anniversary in Vegas, good times.
Jon, I agree with you completely. We've been blessed by wonderful artists and great music. But nothing compares to Dark Side. Nothing is even in the same category.
The common mantra about DSOTM is that “It’s the greatest album of all time, but it’s not even the best album in their discography.” Just shows how landmark this album was in cultural history
I just lost my husband in September and this song really soothes the pain for me!! 40 years together and I just have to remember the good times this music brings back!! RIP my love.😚
Aww so sorry for your lost. He is up there floating in the clouds without a worry on his mind. Fourty years together is a testament to your love for each other.
My deepest condolences and sympathy. I cried a tear and said a prayer that you would find a lonely widower whom you can make two less lonely people with, until you both get to Heaven and reunite with your families and former lovers.
@@steve0the0end can't remember when he went on his tirade, but he cut everybody in the band up. Of Mason, he couldn't play drums, but did not state it that politely. It was painful to read or hear. And to me, I thought that drumming was perfect for Floyd. A guy like Keith Moon would never do. The Who, and especially Moon, my personal favourites.
I was introduced to Pink Floyd during quarantine by my grandpa. He’s a sucker for oldies, 1950s to the 80s. When we went vinyl shopping, he insisted I get DSOTM and as soon as this song played, I felt a sense of sadness. I think this song made me realize how special he is to me and how he was my only supporter through darkest times. Thank you grandpa, I wouldn’t be here without you
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain. You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun. So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
I am a 16 year old girl from Greece and I started listening to Pink Floyd this time last year. Since then my life changed completely. I feel like I am more mature, stronger and that I can catch weird, mixed feelings and vibes that only with PF you can discover. Once you understand the meaning and deeply feel a Pink Floyd song your perspective of life will change forever and you will understand better the world and yourself. I wish to teach them in schools one day. PF are now a big part of me..💎
Two of my best friends from Lake Tahoe, California were 12 and 14 years old in 1976. They skied into a closed area on the backside of Northstar ski resort before a huge blizzard hit. They were lost for days before being found. Lance Severnson died of exposure, and Mike Kelly lost toes to frostbite, only to die by suicide the next summer. This was played at Lances funeral... Mike was the one who first played Darkside for me... we all skied together often. I will always wonder why I was not with them when they got lost. I spent a lot of time with Mike before he died. I was 11. I've spent my life trying to live every day as a gift and a privilege that was denied to them. I feel as though this music, and that experience, have opened my mind to a wider perception of reality, and have given me a greater appreciation of my own existence. RIP Lance and Mike. Love Corey
walked into a big time disco once..caught the DJ's eye...he asked...what would you like to hear? I said Us and Them...he grinned put it on...the whole place became transfixed.
I'm 14 and I'm the only one person in the class hearing Pink Floyd. I love it and that's why I became best friends with my teacher because we both love Pink Floyd.
Dont mean to bum anyone out, but every time i hear this song i think of my father. Every Saturday growing up my dad would blare his floyd & make his famous biscuits & gravy. playing floyd all the way from Shine on you crazy Diamond to The Dogs of War. im 18 & his life was taken due to colon cancer in early November 2015. The reason this song made me have the courage to post something like this is because i played this and dozens of other pink floyd songs in his ears while he lay in a coma for weeks. Pink Floyd gave me some of the final moments with my best friend .. iv never commented anything on youtube before .. Im never the type to seek sympathy but this song brings me joy and reminds me he will always be with me. Me and You. God only knows its not what we would choose to do.
+David Spires my step dad introduced me to pink Floyd at a young age and sundays he would play it as we cleaned the house. Thank you for sharing your story and I'm very sorry for your loss. Love & Light
The current state of the church literally makes God want to vomit because of its Laodicean lukewarmness (I’ve come to this conclusion upon reading the first 3 chapters of Revelation. kJV version)
William, I’m new to making on-line commments(last night was the first I’ve made) so I’m not sure if you were referring to me but if you were there was no call for you to talk to me like that. I was responding to the critically important statement that a rock band is more spiiritual than the church and some time ago I believe I’ve l earned the reason why(because we’ve emtered into the final-Laodicean-age). My conclusion may be wrong but it involves no glue. Just a seeking on my part.
The Lord contacted the band and asked of he could join , pretty sure he just wants free weed and chicks. No one ever accused the Lord of bring an idiot !
If you don’t listen to this song on full blast, headphones in, laying on your bed, face up at the ceiling, crying and letting your mind drift aimlessly, are you even living?
I would love to take a girl really special to me on a date to the mountains and look up at he sky and see the bright stars while this plays. I know this doesn’t matter to anyone of you but man I’m in love with someone who I haven’t found yet
Good luck Ant . There is nothing that can compare to a great relationship. I mean it my friend I hope you find it . Cancer took my bride of 47 years and I'm lost without her. Good luck again .
And if you listen to Gilmour discuss making the follow up to this they felt very unsure of themselves. No confidence. I find that astounding. This is art. This is BEAUTIFUL. This makes me cry.
Humans are just a vessel for toughts, ideas and conustructs, which is art. music, paintings, inovative ideas. Its not calculated. It is felt in the place of no ego.
Love Pink Floyd, my big brother, Richie got me into them when I was about 13 and him 16'ish(1984). He died of an overdose on 20th May 1994 aged just 25. Every track is loaded with memories for me, Love and miss you Rich, Shine on Brother.. .
it makes me so sad that people dismiss this as hippie music or outdated. i used to listen to this in middle school and high school and it was such a comfort. then i started getting older and got into very angry, noisy music and i lost touch. coming back to it feels like coming home. i didn't even know how badly i missed the pure love and sensitivity of pink floyd. if only every person with power in our world could be so human, but it doesn't always work that way. it's always us vs. them. or as Fallout always says, "War. War never changes."
I used to be into a bunch of modern screamo hardcore music, but since I started listening to classics again, it really does a number on you when it comes to just ultimate peace, which I never found in music today. I'm not saying all of today's music is bad, but it seems like they have trouble inheriting the magic and pure joy that the past generation had. Long live Floyd.
+Jonathan Putnam I wouldn't worry about it ... This music is timeless ... This album is one of the all time great albums, and recognized as just that ... No amount of belly aching by angst ridden souls is going to change that ... Good people find their way to good music ... leave it at that ...
+Jonathan Putnam Well, I would have to say that "hippie" music (if someone wants to label it as that) from that time period is probably the greatest music ever recorded. Groups/artists like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Doors, Joni Mitchell, the Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues, etc, and these guys - Pink Floyd - were incredible talents that can stand up to anyone, anywhere, in terms of songwriting, melody, and musicianship. I'm just ever so thankful I got to experience it firsthand.
I've been trying to introduce my kids to my music forever. A few weeks ago my 18 year old came home and told me he and his boss were listening to Pink Floyd and omg they were amazing... Wtf, boy, haven't you been listening to me for 18 years?!? And it seems he's really into Dark Side Of The Moon especially. I must thank his boss... Now we can both listen to my favorite Pink Floyd album together!
I feel sadness for people who don't really enjoy music in the emotional sense. I'm not criticizing anybody, we are all wired differently. but i would hate life if i only looked for a beat you can dance to in the music i listen to. it just has a huge impact on so many people. it's an amazing art form, if you think about how it works.
It's a religious experience that surpasses anything I ever felt in church, and it happens EVERY time I listen to it. I see this album as a gift from God.
I could imagine being the last human alive on earth after the apocolypse and dying slowly in the dark and this song suddenly comes on and then I'm not afraid anymore.
This song gives me goosebumps every time, and damn that saxophone is so perfectly placed. Takes you to an airy/spacey kind of place where everything feels at peace and not so broken. Music is medicine for the soul. I have this album on vinyl back home, and I used to have a revolving multi-color light fixture in my bedroom back in college. If the stress of life was ever getting me down I’d just turn off the bedroom lights, turn on those multicolored lights, and blast this album as high as I could. Always made my problems seem less significant. Truly a beautiful piece of music.
As a guy whose his main hobby is listening, finding and enjoying music during many hours of the day, i feel very sad that I couldn't see this guys live back them. It must have been a hell of an experience..
I've seen them live in 1987 in Werchter, Belgium, with the huge pig floating over the public, and i was also always impressed by their backing vocals. 60000 people there, could hear them scream from afar because i was standing in the back at the beer tent and had the best quality music from there
I was fortunate enough to see Floyd 3 different times. And, yes, "experience" is a fitting description. The last time I saw them at an outdoor concert at Carter-Finley stadium at NC State. They did Dark Side of the Moon, in its entirety. Absolutely a mind blowing experience!
To me, the first 30 seconds of this song are some of the most tragically beautiful moments I have ever experienced. Somehow they captured the pure essence of bittersweet nostalgia and found a way to express it through sound. Every time I hear the vitriolic wining of the wind and those first few notes play, I have to stop everything I’m doing and appreciate it. Pink Floyd truly full of some of the greatest musicians I have ever heard.
Absolutely. Every cut on this LP is like that. "Great Gig in the Sky" is one of the most moving pieces of music I've ever heard, and I was in a symphonic band.
I'm 65. I can only tell you that of all the music I have listened to throughout my life, this is the track that I return to again and again and which never fails to move me.
Us (us, us, us, us) and them (them, them, them, them) And after all we're only ordinary men Me And you (you, you, you) God only knows It's not what we would choose (choose, choose) to do (to do, to do) Forward he cried from the rear And the front rank died And the general sat And the lines on the map Moved from side to side Black (black, black, black) And blue (blue, blue) And who knows which is which and who is who Up (up, up, up, up) And down (down, down, down, down) And in the end it's only round 'n round (round, round, round) Haven't you heard it's a battle of words The poster bearer cried "Listen son", said the man with the gun There's room for you inside "I mean, they're not gonna kill ya So if you give 'em a quick short, sharp, shock They won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off lightly, 'cause I would've given him a thrashing I only hit him once! It was only a difference of opinion, but really I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they, eh?" Down (down, down, down, down) And out (out, out, out, out) It can't be helped that there's a lot of it about With (with, with, with), without And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about? Out of the way It's a busy day I've got things on my mind For the want of the price Of tea and a slice The old man died
I've never cried so hard just reading comments, this song already gets to me as it is. We all share pain. Music like this soothes our pain, thank you Jesus.
I hear ya, normally I read stuff like that and think 'meh, that sucks, but it's life', but reading them whilst this plays, oh man lol cuts right into you and snaps you back to being a human
This album is a gift from God. I like a lot of groups and a lot of LPs, but NOTHING is even in the same category as Dark Side. It takes me everywhere. I sing, I dance, I cry, I pray. It's a religious experience for me.
My favorite Pink Floyd song and always has been. Any time I feel overly stressed, I just put the headphones on, lay down, close my eyes, listen to this song and just be. Repeat until I feel like a human being again. Never fails to work.
Ok relax. This song is good for 70s standards but we’ve gotten so advanced that music today is much much better. We have drake, post Malone, and cardi b. There music is easier to listen to , faster and more exciting. It’s just better this is boring compared to the stuff we have today. It’s way over rated and it’s quite simple. Music today is much more complex.
@@darrellcraig991 No... according to an interview with Waters, the concept was a subjective study/opinion of going through stages of life. The Dark Side of the Moon's lyrical themes with the pressures ans fears of life include conflict, greed, the passage of time, death, and insanity, the latter inspired in part by Syd Barrett's deteriorating mental state. Waters had his personal point of view in how he experienced/handled the pressures of life... translating his own life into DSoM which included choices, free will, greed, empathy, stress, anxiety and how we struggle with mundane and futile elements of life having the ever-present threat of phobias and madness lurking in us all. Most of all he pushed the importance of living one's own life according to his/her choices and sometimes we would focus too much on wealth/success or selfish greed thus missing the important things, the simpler things that fulfill our life. The first track "Money" was written to mock greed & consumerism... nothing to do with haves & have-nots but everything to do with having society program your behavior/purpose as a wage earner in the pursuit and acquisition of goods and services. The concept had absolutely nothing to do with disparity between classes, class structure or having been formed from a political point of view.
If anything I'd believe The Wall album not this song is more of an expression of Roger Waters and his experiences with the premature loss of his father and also the loss of Syd Barrett to the demons of excessive drug use and the pressures from the conformist pop music scene of the 60's Barrett didn't want to be a part of.
@@darrellcraig991 Yes, and this is an ode to the perils of war in the pursuit of "the price of tea and a slice" (money). More specifically, fighting each other because of perceived resource scarcity.
Pink Floyd - Us and Them Lyrics: Us and them And after all, we're only ordinary men Me and you God only knows, it's not what we would choose to do Forward he cried from the rear And the front rank died The General sat, and the lines on the map Moved from side to side Black and blue And who knows which is which and who is who Up and down And in the end, it's only round and round and round Haven't you heard it's a battle of words The poster bearer cried Listen son, said the man with the gun There's room for you inside (They're maybe gonna kill ya. So like, if you give 'em a quick, short, sharp, shock, they don't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off light, come to think. Of rationalising it, once. It's only a difference, but why go and ruin it? I mean good manners don't cost nothing, do they, eh?) Down and out It can't be helped, but there's a lot of it about With, without And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about Out of the way, it's a busy day I've got things on my mind For want of the price of tea and a slice The old man died
As I sit in my greenhouse on a rainy night with an adult beverage and an adult smoke I can't help feeling nostalgic for all the good times this song and album call to mind. Best alive in '75, lol.
I'd been carrying around a sadness for a long while, but then the most amazing thing happened - I heard this song and for no conceivable reason I just started crying, and I felt great afterwards. Thanks PF.
In memory for my beloved brother Robby...who passed away 18.yrs ago...when this album was release d in 1974..I think....we bought it then took LSD....what a beautiful memory...I dedicate this song for my brother wherever he might be.
Good post buddy. Been listening to them since the stoned age of the 60's. I do not care if some call this song and Pink Floyd hippies or outdated. I only know what they did for me. And Money was a good lead-in to this classic ~~ Peace and Tranquility to you and yours
Want to share a personal story, Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands. About two years ago, Roger Waters came to Mexico to give a free show in his Us and Them tour, at that time I had a girlfriend, we were together for 2 and a half years, and we went to the gig together. Have to say, one of my favourite concerts to date, but there was a moment that will stick to me forever, and it was, this song, because when it began she turned around and I held her in my arms and we slow danced and kissed. I was living a dream. We broke up 3 weeks ago, and the day we ended our love relationship we listened to this song again, slow danced to it and gave us our last kiss. This song repeats in my head ever since. And I don't hate it for that, it reminds me of pure joy and it will always do.
+D.W-When it comes to the "story" of the album, the way I would describe this song would be "defeat." "Floyd" has given up on seeking a life that has any kind of meaning for him, a life he can call his own, and basically acquiesces to being used and abused. The anarchy, the sheer insanity, the utter and despicable violence that ravages the world has destroyed him, numbed him to the point closer to his complete collapse in Brain Damage/Eclipse. Nothing makes sense to him, even while everyone else insists that it does, and arguably it does start to make sense to him. He understands this is the way the world is, but he still can't accept it. And that understanding, that sad, hopeless despair while still trying to escape, to understand, begging just to know why it has to be this way, why the world devours everyone, that contradiction between understanding and (refusal of) acceptance only furthers his deterioration into insanity to where insanity becomes the far more comforting option, insanity is his prison but also his escape from a world that churns out constant darkness. Or, given the title, the insanity is only the darkness finally consuming him alive, consuming him whole to where darkness is all that remains.
Same here dude, I'm just thinking of the right setting, because a hospital bed doesn't have the right grandeur for that chorus. My first thought was a rocket flying past Saturn, but I don't think I have enough time left to save up for that.
I lost my father on 19th April 2021 due to covid, we used to listen to this song while driving to the country side. I don't know what to say dad there's a bag full of sorrows inside me but still I try to stay stronger like you did to build the family. I just wanna say you dad if you're seeing this, I love you so much and respect for all what you've done for us. See you soon up there 😢💔
The lyric that gets me on this album is from "Time": Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
That sax is other worldly, but that guitar riff sets the mood. you could even play it on the piano and it sounds majestic. Truly a versatile song filled with ear sex.
This song reminds me of my dad and how hard it was for him and all of us growing up he would listen to this song he loved the saxophone in it and drink whiskey and smoke cigarettes and think about life and everything else 😄💯💪🙏👍miss you dad! Love you! ! And thanks Pink Floyd!!
I'm 16, lying in the back of a carpeted van, with the back doors wide open, watching a bonfire with my friends around it, faces lit up, talking and smoking and laughing. I'm not really there, but I am, you know? Every time I listen to this album.
I was a few years older than you , in my 30s, am now 72 and still enjoy Pink Floyd. a nice fattie goes along nice expecially now that it is legal in Canada
+Adam Blake Yes, who doesn't love Pink Floyd? Saw some very sad news today. Pink Floyd has officially broken up. It's the end of an Era. So sad to hear of this. But then, all good things must come to an end. They sure left us with some incredible music that is like no other.
For me, it wouldn't BE life without this album. I've left strict instructions. I don't want a standard funeral. I want my friends to go into the woods, build a fire, play Dark Side, and think of me. Since I'm 63 and have felt this way for about 30 years, I doubt I will change my mind.
Pink Floyd is the best it allows me to “BREATHE” They some how always catch me feelings “ON THE RUN” Their music just always gives me “TIME” to appreciate life The prepare me to enjoy “THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY” They show me that “MONEY” isn’t an end that it’s meaningless to worship That the world should be just about “US AND THEM” How life is the same even in choosing “ANY COLOUR YOU LIKE” They are there for me in my worst “BRAIN DAMAGE” That they will be forever my light in the “ECLIPSE”
It feels so good to be able to play guitar to a backing track, and it's all thanks to this band. I picked up a guitar 6 months ago and didn't stop learning every single day, and now today, I can solo over whatever. It's the greatest feeling of accomplishment and I still can't believe I went for it.
I read somewhere that more people on Earth have a copy of this album than any other. It brings me happy/sad recollections of my distant youthful innocence. I'm 65 and it still makes me cry.
@Lolo we all know appreciation and being kind to others, being at one with the other plants and animals around us, that's what makes extraordinary men!
This song is my all-time favorite song ever , its pure and only 100% feeling, it is also the best song ever to astroproject, leave your body and leave the sadness and pressures of the world, just go to your favorite part of the universe and enjoy 100% of the journey
Ok relax. This song is good for 70s standards but we’ve gotten so advanced that music today is much much better. We have drake, post Malone, and cardi b. Saw them perform this live in London in ‘73 in quadraphonic sound. Still have the ticket and a very beaten up old bootleg cassette. Requisite plane flying into the stage from the back of the hall. They did ‘Echoes’ also. Mind blown.
Now, coming to the end of my years, I have to say that this is my very favourite band of all time, anywhere in the world, without question!........they were just perfect and exquisite in almost everything they did!
This is my boyfriend‘s favourite track. Now he‘s far away and every time I listen to it I die a little bit inside. I really wish he were here and run his fingers through my hair, while listening to this mindblowing and inspiring band. Why do we always have to miss someone or something?
No tiene porque ser así, el poder que hace que esta canción te ponga triste o feliz, solo depende de una persona, y esa persona sos vos, que tengas una hermosa vida.
I had never lived until I listened to this alone at sunrise, walking 8 miles home through the woods in the cold, frozen dead of winter. I did that sort of thing regularly for a girl, and at only 15 years old! Best times of my life
This and time are my favorites. The whole album (aside from on the run) is absolutely brilliant though. Truly one of the great works of art in all of human history. It will stand the test of time forever.
I first heard this song on the radio when I was about 17 years of age in the early 90s - I was mesmerised by this amazing song. Pink Floyd’s music is truly timeless and Dark Side Of The Moon has to be one of the finest albums ever made. Without question.
My son passed away on February 07 2020 in a motorcycle accident he was only 26. We went to see Roger Waters in concert together and listened to this song in the car. We both love Pink Floyd’s music. I miss you so much Ricky. One day we will be together again Love you ma ❤️
what a great bond and great family ,So sorry for ur loss may he rest in peace

Keep playing it for your son, he'l hear it
I graduated in 1974... I am now 63 yrs old, still my favorite album of all time
👍🏼🇮🇹
My brother also graduated in 74 and I remember him getting in trouble from my parents when he brought this album home. My parents accused of him of smoking weed and said this was devil music. Ha ha

Greatest album of all time

In many ways, it saved my life*
It was a defining moment in my life and I'll always associate this song with that night. It's been awesome reading all of the ways this song was a part of your life, in one way or another :)
*sorry if I'm being dramatic, but it's kinda true.
Incredible. I'm so happy you found this and it brang you some solace.
I still ponder how something as seamless and perfect as this album could ever come to exist. One of the true modern marvels of humanity.
Several British friends and some instruments. That's all it took. It is true, no other band or group like it. PF will be eternal.
It’s a magnificent piece of art
Lightning strikes! All four lads on fire, plus Dick Parry's saxophone, Claire Tory's inspired vocal solo, great backing vocals, Alan Parsons producing, and perhaps that many of the songs had already been written, and had been simmering for a while, ready for perfecting in the studio.

Considering the concept of this album, that's quite fitting
The Beatles are great. The Stones endure. Dark Side of the Moon is hands down the greatest piece of rock art ever created. And it will never be surpassed.
Actually, their follow-up album, Wish You Were Here, is my favorite by Floyd.
Darkside is awesome, my senior yr in high school was the year it leaked as the soundtrack to the wizard of oz, so Fukn cool. The wall is right there though, saw Roger do the 30th anniversary in Vegas, good times.
its landmark.... but id take the doors 1st album or last album over this.
Jon, I agree with you completely. We've been blessed by wonderful artists and great music. But nothing compares to Dark Side. Nothing is even in the same category.
The common mantra about DSOTM is that “It’s the greatest album of all time, but it’s not even the best album in their discography.”
Just shows how landmark this album was in cultural history
I just lost my husband in September and this song really soothes the pain for me!! 40 years together and I just have to remember the good times this music brings back!! RIP my love.😚
Aww so sorry for your lost. He is up there floating in the clouds without a worry on his mind. Fourty years together is a testament to your love for each other.
Sorry for your lost. Pink Floyd must be a really heavy lifter for you
Sorry for your loss dear, god bless
My deepest condolences and sympathy. I cried a tear and said a prayer that you would find a lonely widower whom you can make two less lonely people with, until you both get to Heaven and reunite with your families and former lovers.
The first of this song reminds me of that 1969 Cadillac Hearse I once test drove.
This drummer is the tightest metronome of a drummer who does exactly what the song needs at all times...incredible
Sometimes, Less, is More.
Not according to Roger. I agree, Mason's drumming is perfect for Pink Floyd.
@@republica843 what did Roger say
@@steve0the0end can't remember when he went on his tirade, but he cut everybody in the band up. Of Mason, he couldn't play drums, but did not state it that politely. It was painful to read or hear. And to me, I thought that drumming was perfect for Floyd. A guy like Keith Moon would never do. The Who, and especially Moon, my personal favourites.
especially in Time, lol
I was introduced to Pink Floyd during quarantine by my grandpa. He’s a sucker for oldies, 1950s to the 80s. When we went vinyl shopping, he insisted I get DSOTM and as soon as this song played, I felt a sense of sadness. I think this song made me realize how special he is to me and how he was my only supporter through darkest times.
Thank you grandpa, I wouldn’t be here without you

I played my mothers favorite music the last week she was out of it dying of cancer. I know she could hear.
theres more spirituality in pink floyds music than most churches nowadays.
my church makes us wear a mask its bs
The current state of the church literally makes God want to vomit because of its Laodicean lukewarmness (I’ve come to this conclusion upon reading the first 3 chapters of Revelation. kJV version)
Are You Nut's? Get off the Glue!
I mean everything except the crying part, that would get difficult to do every night

Yes you are living, because this song covers the full range of emotions. i love the bits of piano and sax in it. VERY CLASSY
I wouldn't call it living, no. I'm not sure I was fully alive -- or really knew what that meant -- until I listened to this LP.
I would love to take a girl really special to me on a date to the mountains and look up at he sky and see the bright stars while this plays. I know this doesn’t matter to anyone of you but man I’m in love with someone who I haven’t found yet

it makes me so sad that people dismiss this as hippie music or outdated. i used to listen to this in middle school and high school and it was such a comfort. then i started getting older and got into very angry, noisy music and i lost touch. coming back to it feels like coming home. i didn't even know how badly i missed the pure love and sensitivity of pink floyd. if only every person with power in our world could be so human, but it doesn't always work that way. it's always us vs. them. or as Fallout always says, "War. War never changes."
Jonathan Putnam me too! I listened to Black Flagg and the likes for a long time. I'm sl glad I found my way back!!
We need more people like you 2.

Sucks that some of us weren’t even born in time to see the most talented group in the world in person...

Exactly! Pink Floyd has so much meaning and emotion it’s like everything else is just completely unimaginative
There is no known cure.
Roger Waters lost his father in WWII, the song is an expression of his feelings and life also.

Shine on you crazy diamond Robby
one of the best, if not the best album to trip to
I was on acid at that time, I never had a bad trip, the best time of my life...
I tripped a lot when I was young, and this album was a MUST. Now, at the old, straight age of 63, it's STILL a must.
Been listening to Pink Floyd for 46 years.I never get tired of it.
True masters of their craft. I've listened to this on and off for 47 years. God willing I'll listen another 20.
Same. DSOTM released 1/3/73.
@@Longtack55 Sorry, I meant Pink Floyd. Not just this album. Atom Heart Mother was the first Pink Floyd I heard.
Good post buddy. Been listening to them since the stoned age of the 60's. I do not care if some call this song and Pink Floyd hippies or outdated. I only know what they did for me. And Money was a good lead-in to this classic ~~ Peace and Tranquility to you and yours
@@jameslye9350 im 14 and i think this is great
Want to share a personal story, Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands.
I just can't picture rw's pulling Gilmour
Un abrazo hermano. Momentos así vivirán para siempre.
Pink Floyd is th3 best of the best in this century and the past
something wrong with one or both of you
Why yall break up? Be honest
It really takes ya back to a different place. Such a sad but beautiful song.
agree 1000%
War of the worlds
takes me back to when Arthur's fist was a relevant meme...
You look like you're getting high right now. XD
I want this song playing as I die - to gradually have consciousness slip away with this being the last thing heard.
i see what your sayin man
A very good friend of mine went out listening to " Comfortably Numb ! "
Same here dude, I'm just thinking of the right setting, because a hospital bed doesn't have the right grandeur for that chorus. My first thought was a rocket flying past Saturn, but I don't think I have enough time left to save up for that.

Yeah I just keep on playing it in my car as I'm driving. Yeah it's a good traveling song

@@crazycutefamily3177 - Roger Waters' father died in WWII when Roger was 5 years old.
The lyric that gets me on this album is from "Time":
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
If I could only listen to ONE more song before I died, this would be it. Masterpiece.
That sax is other worldly, but that guitar riff sets the mood. you could even play it on the piano and it sounds majestic. Truly a versatile song filled with ear sex.
DITTO!

Gary Stephens it was written on the piano:) hmm which is a very versatile instrument compositionally so that makes sense
Gary Stephens you nailed it. What is the price?
I like the organ intro...its awesome how it starts out quietly and leads into the song. I can listen to it over and over, it never gets old
This song reminds me of my dad and how hard it was for him and all of us growing up he would listen to this song he loved the saxophone in it and drink whiskey and smoke cigarettes and think about life and everything else 😄💯💪🙏👍miss you dad! Love you! ! And thanks Pink Floyd!!
I'm 16, lying in the back of a carpeted van, with the back doors wide open, watching a bonfire with my friends around it, faces lit up, talking and smoking and laughing. I'm not really there, but I am, you know? Every time I listen to this album.
Just like mee. I'm 16 too

+Adam Blake Yes, who doesn't love Pink Floyd? Saw some very sad news today. Pink Floyd has officially broken up. It's the end of an Era. So sad to hear of this. But then, all good things must come to an end. They sure left us with some incredible music that is like no other.
+Dustin Grant i came here late but this is so so true !!!
I couldn't imagine life without Pink Floyd in it.
Pink Floyd is a way of life.
UNcomfortably numb
Without Pink Floyd there would be something missing.
For me, it wouldn't BE life without this album. I've left strict instructions. I don't want a standard funeral. I want my friends to go into the woods, build a fire, play Dark Side, and think of me. Since I'm 63 and have felt this way for about 30 years, I doubt I will change my mind.
30 minute ago I was in a solitary place on a mountain, and from a window comes this song. What a wonderful moment.

yeeesssss!
Pink Floyd is the best it allows me to “BREATHE”
They some how always catch me feelings “ON THE RUN”
Their music just always gives me “TIME” to appreciate life
The prepare me to enjoy “THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY”
They show me that “MONEY” isn’t an end that it’s meaningless to worship
That the world should be just about “US AND THEM”
How life is the same even in choosing “ANY COLOUR YOU LIKE”
They are there for me in my worst “BRAIN DAMAGE”
That they will be forever my light in the “ECLIPSE”
damn. I almost teared up reading this
@ Magistic
Well written 👏
They really do SPEAK TO ME
The best you’ve got the point of life 👏👏👏
Holy shit did you come up with this?
It feels so good to be able to play guitar to a backing track, and it's all thanks to this band. I picked up a guitar 6 months ago and didn't stop learning every single day, and now today, I can solo over whatever. It's the greatest feeling of accomplishment and I still can't believe I went for it.
I read somewhere that more people on Earth have a copy of this album than any other. It brings me happy/sad recollections of my distant youthful innocence. I'm 65 and it still makes me cry.
in my humble opinion, this is one of the best songs of all time. who can dislike this? I don't understand. this is pure beauty
This song is so intense both lyrically and musically it gives me the chills every time i listen to it
Fortunate to have lived during the days when this broke out and still alive to hear it so many years later.
Did you think that almost 50 years after this came out you’d still be listening to and enjoying it?

Absolutely stunned when I first heard the LP.

That's enough thanks lol
This song is my all-time favorite song ever , its pure and only 100% feeling, it is also the best song ever to astroproject, leave your body and leave the sadness and pressures of the world, just go to your favorite part of the universe and enjoy 100% of the journey
One of the albums that needs to be listened to in it's entirety.
Perfection... But that's the thing about Pink Floyd. They set the bar extremely high.
Not high enough
Jason Setser your face!
listen to Sun king from the Beatles then
@@Xxrocknrollgod Modern music sucks, this is way better, or listen to CCR
Saw them perform this live in London in ‘73 in quadraphonic sound. Still have the ticket and a very beaten up old bootleg cassette. Requisite plane flying into the stage from the back of the hall. They did ‘Echoes’ also. Mind blown.
I was at that gig too - at the Rainbow Theatre. An amazing experience
i remember that tour so well - only outdoors somewhere near Phila, Pa! Amazing shows and music. And that plane!
Now, coming to the end of my years, I have to say that this is my very favourite band of all time, anywhere in the world, without question!........they were just perfect and exquisite in almost everything they did!
This is the most touching comment I've seen in a while ! Greetings to you, my friend.

This is my boyfriend‘s favourite track. Now he‘s far away and every time I listen to it I die a little bit inside. I really wish he were here and run his fingers through my hair, while listening to this mindblowing and inspiring band. Why do we always have to miss someone or something?
Because when you see him it'll be that much more special. Takes the darkness to know the light.

No tiene porque ser así, el poder que hace que esta canción te ponga triste o feliz, solo depende de una persona, y esa persona sos vos, que tengas una hermosa vida.
You should worry the day you have no one / nothing to miss.
Let me take a stab at this:
So you Wish He Was Here?
