    I remember doing this a handful of times in my backyard a long time ago with my cousin. It was in a wine glass and we would like collect this rain water that overflowed in a vase and then drop like a half cap of bleach in it. There were also these weird tiny white slug things that were in there. They looked like rice grains. Since we were in the buisness of only killing these mosquitos, we tried saving them, but they did not want to be saved. Oh well, what could we do? We noticed that after 5 minutes, they were still alive.
    We dumped a full cap of bleach and watched for 10 minutes. We noticed differences in the larvae's personalities. They were all squirming and thrashing. So we put a few drops and waited another 10 minutes. We aventually had pizza and we came into the house to eat for 30 minutes before we came back outside to find that they were all dead, and that they changed colors. They were a tinge of white. We had theories that the bleach did not burn them before they died. It was just suffocating them.

    • @VinsExperiment
      @VinsExperiment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      The bleach may take longer to kill mosquito larvae.
      But this is just a short term experiment, my conclusion is that bleach is not effective.

    • @robertnussberger2028
      @robertnussberger2028 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@VinsExperiment Yes. I know. But what I was using was cheap bleach and not expensive bleach. Cheap bleach not only is corosive, but it also has this greasy yellow oil inside of it. You should redo the experiment with your typical-buy bleach and a cheap discount bleach. You may notice a difference, such as expensive bleach being clear as water and cheap bleach having a oily substance in it and is a tinge of yellow. It may be interesting.
      It was a possibility that my larvae suffocated from the oils of the cheap bleach.

    • @VinsExperiment
      @VinsExperiment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    resistant as hell. but a drop of washing up liquid will do the trick. eliminating surface tension so they can't grab onlo the surface for air trapped under water and they all drown due to hydrophilic end of molecule adhering to the polar H2O molecules. The non polar hydrophobic end facing away - almost acting as a blocker to the air hole of the mosquito

    I had to deal with mosquito infestation just the other day in my multi-tier fountain. Added Clorox and peroxide, then flushed everything with a garden hose. Kept the hose in there for a few hours. The mosquito larvae are very resilient to chlorine and peroxide. When they were building the Panama canal, the construction workers kept getting sick with malaria, and the netting never really helped. Some guy came up with an idea to spray oil on standing water to suffocate the mosquito larvae. It worked! I've heard that you can also use the dish soap. (But Chlorine also dislodges all the detritus (muck) on which the larvae feed)

      Don’t pour it in the toilet, you don’t have to worry about mosquitoes laying any eggs in there. Also pouring the mixture into the toilet would most likely clog it. So stay safe and pour the waste out on the sidewalk when you are done killing the pests.

      There I tried to lower the PH of the water with Phosphoric Acid to 4.0 PH. As a result, the mosquito larvae were able to survive but when I tried to raise the PH level to 10.0, they immediately died.
      *HCL / muriatic acid has the effect of lowering the PH level of the water and it is not effective at killing them.
