  • Hi, greetings from Vins Experiment
    This time we will try to get rid of mosquitoes in water.
    Mosquito larvae are animals that can survive various water parameters. The question is, how to control mosquito ?
    We'll see, how to use household products to kill mosquito larvae.
    If this is successful, it will be an easy way to kill the Mosquito worm and mosquito solutions for home.
    List of items for experiment mosquito :
    - Salt
    - Apple Cider Vinegar
    - Dish soap

    There's no need to use nearly as much dish soap. A 0.1% concentration should do the trick, just give it a few hours.
    You can then give the water to your plants, they generally don't mind a little soap.

      is there a way to kill mosquitoes in the sewer? we have “kanals” open here at our house that mosquitoes use to lay their eggs, and we keep getting bit

    Salt… Perhaps conclusions were drawn too fast.
    I have a garden fountain and keep the mosquitos away by adding salt to the water. Salt does not kill the larvae, but it prevents the mosquitoes in laying eggs in salty water, as the mosquitoes taste the water before laying eggs.

      How much salt do you use on yours ?

    • @JosefMPjess

      @@nellya.9920 - my fountain contains about 20L of water. I add 1 cup of salt every 2 weeks, in summer months only though. Birds are bathing in my fountain, but not drinking.
      I have also a pond with gold fish, so birds drink water from the pond.

      Dish soap and vinegar is a pretty effective fungicide/insecticide. I use the mix in my garden regularly, sometimes with a bit of baking soda.

    Effective if you have enough to equal 25 percent or more of the total volume of water to be treated is hardly efficient or practical. Kind of scary they are so darn persistent. Would like to see you test more options. Potassium permanganate for instance.

      Apple cider vinegar and soap are very effective at killing mosquito larvae.
      The reality is that using lower doses to kill them, it may take longer.
      Or keep a few guppy fish as natural predators of mosquito larvae. Trust me, they are very greedy

    • @VinsExperiment
      @VinsExperiment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      In this experiment I have tried with olive oil, but the results are not optimal with less than 20 minutes.
      Fact: Oil does not kill mosquito larvae, but prevents them from evolving because the oil forms a layer on the surface of the water.
      Maybe in the next video, I will make mosquito larvae vs oil with a time lapse format.

    This is not practical. You would basically need put something like 30% dish soap to kill mosquitoes. WTH!? It would have been a far better experiment to see what the minimum amount of product it would take to kill them in before they come out of the water. What was the point of this video anyways?! Does anyone here know?

    • @VinsExperiment
      @VinsExperiment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You don't need to use this crazy method to kill mosquito larvae using soap. Use a small dose and wait a few hours then you will not see the mosquito larvae tomorrow.
      I used large doses of soap to see how long the mosquito larvae could survive the chemicals from the soap.
      Experiment is freedom. Maybe this video is not the solution for some people.

      @@hugoh.9694 Basically you just need to break the surface tension of the water or adding another layer on top of the water. They will drown because they can't hanging near surface and snorkeling with their proboscis. If the layer on top quite plenty they will suffocated by those oil layer, but I bet you're already aware of this so I left this piece of information that I got from 5 minutes of Google search here for other people that might curious

      Calm down. He's experimenting, so he doesn't know what works himself. After a certain amount didn't work, of course he's going to add more just to find out; whether it would be feasible or not.
