@Persea gatuna I highly doubt it, but if it dies, so what? It's an entry level card. I would just give him my old 2080Ti that's sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
@Persea gatuna lol, don't be sad. the RX 580 is one of the best cards ever made. As far as that 1660 goes, I've been wanting to give him a better card for a while, but I don't see the point when all he wants to play is Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite.
@Persea gatuna do you have a custom fan curve set? That's the first thing I would look at. A lot of cards have the max fan speed capped really low so that they don't get too loud, but that's an easy adjustment in the Radeon Adrenaline software or MSI Afterburner. I usually set a pretty linear curve starting at about 40% @ 40C to 100% @ 70C. I have other suggestions if that one is no help to you.
Does anyone know how to re-enable the RT option for non-RTX cards in CP? When this video was made CP let you do this, now after Update 1.6, i can no longer do it, how do i unlock it again? Thanks
Nice video! Btw rt doesn't worth without dlss yet, even on high end rtx cards but with dlss set on the first option you get 25-30% boost in fps, just enough to turn rt reflections and still retain very good framerate, even in cyberpunk. But thats it atm, native is not recommended, maybe in future less demanding games or better optimized...
Raytracing is like smartphone notches: A solution for a problem that nobody ever cared about with lots of disadvantages. It often isn't that noticeable but what you do notice is the heavy performance impact.
Yeah, it's getting annoying already. Have you seen the gameplay for the new GTA? Every road looks wet even in broad daylight. I think the devs were like, "You like ray tracing, huh? Oh we'll give you ray tracing."
How do you enabled this? Cyberpunk doesn't allow me to enable it at all with my GTX 1080ti. I really would love to experiment with DXR :( Or are you using an older version of the Game?
@@RPS13DRlFT I'm a 2060 owner here and even with DLSS ray tracing is mostly a meme. Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080P with DLSS on quality with ultra ray tracing sits in the 25-40fps range , Or I can actually enjoy the game at Ultra settings at 70-90fps with DLSS Quality and no ray tracing. Honestly I think the best thing to come with the lower end RTX cards Is DLSS , Ray Tracing is great if you have a 3090 but 2060 and 2060super owners just can't take the performance hit. If it hadn't been for DLSS I woulda said I made a massive mistake paying 25% more for a 10-15% performance increase.
@@Jasontvnd9 yeah, i have an rx 5600xt, and i was between this one and the 2060, im begenning to regret not getting the 2060 because of the dlss, but nontheless the 5600xt its still a good gpu.
Recently upgraded from the 1660 super oc to the 3070 master, not gonna lie there was a brief moment of "don't tell me I could've got ray tracing without shelling out 700 buck" 😅 Great vid 👌🏻
I've had a 6800 XT for over a month now I've yet to try it ray tracing in it. I personally don't get the obsession with ray tracing. My cousin has a 2080 and yea Minecraft and Quake RTX are like two completely different games but the graphically demanding games are just encumbered by RT. Unless I stop to look for it in a game like Control It's hard to tell if it's on or off because you're usually running around shooting things instead of analyzing glass and the realistic shadows coffee mugs cast. I don't see the fascination personally and for what you give up in performance it ain't worth it but that's just my opinion.
I actually agree, ray-tracing looks nice, but it's not worth the money. I'm too poor to switch to ray-tracing myself, but the way there pushing it.....
@@consolepcgamer6746 I would disagree, Control is one of the best showcases for raying tracing, and certainly a much better choice to show it off than these online multiplayer shooters like Call of Duty they keep putting it in where everybody just turns graphical options down for maximum fps anyway... although Control is a great looking game with or without ray tracing. I've played Control with ray tracing on with my 6800 XT and it performs better than my old 2080 did at "true" 1440p. Unfortunately DLSS on the 2080 card allowed still beats the 6800 XT's frame rate with ray tracing enabled with no discernible loss in visual quality ~95% of the time. DLSS is in many ways more impressive for Nvidia than their lead in ray tracing and AMD needs all hands on deck developing their competing technology.
@@consolepcgamer6746 Agreed. I have a 2070super and ever since DLSS 2.0 released it's made supported games pretty easy to run ray tracing. I was obsessed with it for about a month playing with all the settings in different games enjoying the beauty of it but it quickly became stale and I couldn't tell the difference anymore when I was actually playing the game. It really depends on the game but now I don't bother with it and kinda the whole thing annoying lol. It's seriously not all that.
2:27 Gotta agree with you there. RT isn't very noticeable unless it's a drastic change (like minecraft) or in side-by-side comparisons. That, plus it even introduces some minor artifacts like ghosting or reflection pop-in that you don't get with regular lighting, so I usually leave it off even though I can get 60+fps in most cases.
@shamil0v not yet :D got it for christmas and now i am playing Sam's story dlc :) after i finish it i will think about another new game where i could test it :)
Ray tracing on GTX 10 series is the best suggestion for people who play on emulator or old games, you can install reshade or graphics mods and get great lighting effects like NFS Most Wanted or other games (with modded graphics ofc)
1060 is Pascal. This card is 2x faster at RTX due to it being Turing. It is a "720p 2060." If that sounds enticing, go for it. You wont have Minecraft tho (hardcoded RTX card requirement). Example the Atomic Heart demo is literally BUTTER on this card at 720p. Not joking. This video should have a sequel. I was running RTX on 1660s in everything until I got 3070.
@@TheXlen I have had both cards. The 1660s kills the 1060 and is about equal to the 1070 with regard to RT. The tensor cores are mainly used for DLSS acceleration\decoding econstructing...
I need to see what the VRR range on my monitor is. If it goes lower than 45 FPS, i'll probably turn on medium/low RT for single player games on my 1660 Super. I'm glad you showed the CoD example, as the default shadows in that game have a grainy, dot like texture to them that i absolutely hate, but i'll have to deal with for performance reasons
4:22 those images of before and after should be the norm on all games. they're like images of food on restaurant menus. people make fun of them but I love them

You could do a video comparing the E3 1240 v3 and the i7 4770. The E3 seems to be a fraction of the price however performs on par! Is it worth the jump up to the i7?
Got a 1660 Ti for my first build 3 weeks ago. Already knew RT was off the table but its interesting that its still possible. Also after being spoiled by a good PC and a 144hz monitor, 30fps looks so choppy to me now.
Have 1660 Super, was wondering about the “gen 1” ray tracing. Great video!!! So my take away reflections on lowest setting gives some reasonable results that look pretty awesome. MSI afterburner (which I use) could help improve frames a small amount but I suspect less than 10% improvement. which at 30fps is about 3 frames. That being said the functionality is there if not reasonable for all AAA titles.
Seems the only way you are getting a 30 series card is if you signed up for EVGA;s queue system. I signed up back in October 29th for a 3070 and was notified I was able to purchase an xc 3 ultra last week. I been using restocking apps and the cards are all out of stock before you can act on the notification. So I hope you signed up for EVGA queue as they are currently filling 3070 orders from about October 30th
I'm pretty sure if you are trying to do Ray tracing in Cyberpunk on anything besides the newest 3000 series you need to turn on DLSS for it to be playable.
Nothing wrong with a 1660 super. It's a 1080p beast, very few games where you have to turn down graphical detail to maintain 60fps with this card. Every game that I own I've been able to use ultra at 1080p and easily maintain a solid 60fps, or higher.
I have tried RTX Quake 2 on my GTX 1060 6GB. Keeping the render resolution quite low gives very high framerates and is kind of a fun mix of old-school/new-school image quality for that particular game. Wouldn't want to do that for Watch Dogs, but for Quake... it's kind of cool.

It cant do DLSS? Thats what the tensor cores are mainly used for. Get him to do this ^ at 720p and everything is butter smooth. Even Atomic Heart demo. RTX is more software than hardware. DLSS is all hardware.
Very nice video and you caught some very good and important detail there. At 1:37 if you focus on the right side screen on the top left corner you will see the complete ray traced reflections of the garbage on the puddle of water which is a neat Easter egg left by the developers foreshadowing the status of the game after release
How about a video on SAM/Resizable BAR on older motherboards to see what performance improvement (if any) it gives? I run a Gigabyte z390 gaming sli board and there was a BIOS update last week to enable this feature. Keep up the good work! Thanks,
RT is cool but for me the biggest selling point of RTX cards is DLSS 2.0. If you switch it on and set vertical sync you can play compatible titles that don’t need more than 60fps with maxed out graphics using little power and thus, a cool and quiet PC.
Raytracing seems more like something you would do in a singleplayer game like Cyberpunk 2077 or Control to better help yourself get immersed in the experience than in a competitive shooter like Fortnite or COD where you'll be so focused on staying alive and scoring kills that any good reflective effects will be hardly noticed if at all. Maybe if you're running an absolute monster of a machine that you can get 80-100 FPS and still have Raytracing effects on Ultra and regular graphical settings on High/Ultra as well then it might be worth it but otherwise I'd say turn RTX off when trying to compete with other players and turn it on when you're just trying to enjoy a game on your own.
guys , there is a Reshade setting called Ray Traced Global Illumination (RTGI) that use Path Tracing that i use in many games that don't have Raytracing and it simulate global illumination and it's awesome and it work on both Nvidia and AMD cards, try it , go download Reshade and this RTGI setting , i assure you your games would never looks the same after that .

I have a 1660 Super still. I had NO IDEA they'd enabled it on these cards. That is so funny!
Yeah, I'd keep Ray tracing off at all times. And besides, the games still look beautiful without Ray tracing anyway soo yeah
Does anyone know how to re-enable the RT option for non-RTX cards in CP? When this video was made CP let you do this, now after Update 1.6, i can no longer do it, how do i unlock it again? Thanks
You should've tried ghostrunner quake 2(yes that quake 2) and control as well. Maybe do another video? Edit: fantastic video as always man.
Of course you can turn it on, just keep the resolution under 480p! The video we didn't know we needed! Was hoping to see Minecraft here.
"So how do these enhancements affect gameplay? Well, brace yourselves."
*non RT at 60 fps*
Me: Ehh how bad could it be?
*RT at 7 FPS*
Me: O_O

Reminds me of a Gameboy racing game at the 90s
Raytracing is like smartphone notches: A solution for a problem that nobody ever cared about with lots of disadvantages. It often isn't that noticeable but what you do notice is the heavy performance impact.
Every game for the next decade is going to have an over abundance of puddles.
Those GTA San Andreas modders were really ahead of their time.
Just like with bloom in the mid-late 00's
Because our cards could suddenly do HDR
Yeah, it's getting annoying already. Have you seen the gameplay for the new GTA? Every road looks wet even in broad daylight. I think the devs were like, "You like ray tracing, huh? Oh we'll give you ray tracing."
@@The_Chad_ What new GTA??

Recently upgraded from the 1660 super oc to the 3070 master, not gonna lie there was a brief moment of "don't tell me I could've got ray tracing without shelling out 700 buck" 😅
Great vid 👌🏻
Would be interesting if AMD added ray-tracing support on their earlier cards as well.
@@consolepcgamer6746 completely agree with u i don't give a shit about ray tracing specially on multiplayer games

Gotta agree with you there.
I tried Ray Tracing on my 1660 in Metro Exodus for like 5 minutes :D well instead of like 70-80 fps i had like 35 or something like that :d
@shamil0v you need to turn on Ultra preset and RT settings should appear :)
I played the entire game on 1660s Rt... at 720p. Small monitor tho. It was very smooth.
@shamil0v not yet :D got it for christmas and now i am playing Sam's story dlc :) after i finish it i will think about another new game where i could test it :)
Thanks! I commented before on if you could make more videos with line of gpu’s and you pulled through! Glad I subscribed!
I love the 16 series cards, they're great
I switched RT on in Metro Exodus with my 1060 6GB back when I still had it. Less than 15 fps.
1660s is much better at this due to it being Turing.
@@timmyp6297 Not really lol. Ray tracing relies on the tensor cores.
@shamil0v Yeah my 3070 that I replaced it with runs it a whole lot better with RT on haha
Ray tracing on GTX 10 series is the best suggestion for people who play on emulator or old games, you can install reshade or graphics mods and get great lighting effects like NFS Most Wanted or other games (with modded graphics ofc)
Interesting video, would this also apply to the standard 1660 ... Asking for a friend ;)
yeah it will work, but the frame rates will be a bit worse

RandomGaminginHD i think it's a fire hazard lol
1060 is Pascal. This card is 2x faster at RTX due to it being Turing. It is a "720p 2060." If that sounds enticing, go for it. You wont have Minecraft tho (hardcoded RTX card requirement).
Example the Atomic Heart demo is literally BUTTER on this card at 720p. Not joking. This video should have a sequel. I was running RTX on 1660s in everything until I got 3070.

I need to see what the VRR range on my monitor is. If it goes lower than 45 FPS, i'll probably turn on medium/low RT for single player games on my 1660 Super.

Good slideshows but I subscribed this channel for video benchmarks
I'm pretty sure if you are trying to do Ray tracing in Cyberpunk on anything besides the newest 3000 series you need to turn on DLSS for it to be playable.
Ah yes, the Don't Touch GTX 1660 Super.
oops i bought one 3 weeks ago
Nothing wrong with a 1660 super. It's a 1080p beast, very few games where you have to turn down graphical detail to maintain 60fps with this card. Every game that I own I've been able to use ultra at 1080p and easily maintain a solid 60fps, or higher.
If you play at 720p, the 1660s is a 2060 without DLSS.
@@madmax2069 Oh I know, especially since I don't even play new-ish aaa games, just overpriced right now..

RT is cool but for me the biggest selling point of RTX cards is DLSS 2.0. If you switch it on and set vertical sync you can play compatible titles that don’t need more than 60fps with maxed out graphics using little power and thus, a cool and quiet PC.
That's interesting, something that I was also curious. Great video dude.
Oh that looks a bit more fluid than the still images I used (tried) to render in POVRay back in the early 2000s. 🤔
guys , there is a Reshade setting called Ray Traced Global Illumination (RTGI) that use Path Tracing that i use in many games that don't have Raytracing and it simulate global illumination and it's awesome and it work on both Nvidia and AMD cards, try it , go download Reshade and this RTGI setting , i assure you your games would never looks the same after that .
