You say boring video but I enjoy wiring and seeing how everything works. I look forward to owning an intruder one day

Sorry sir, this video is FAR from boring! I've been in this section of my bike more times than I can count. I've been fusing with my carbs and when I came across your videos I felt compelled to tear down my bike and do a thorough servicing. I have a 96 1400 that has all original parts... and fluids (I think)! Watching these tear down videos has given me GREAT confidence in diving into this project. Only issue I have is that I only have the one bike so I cannot ride while going through this process. BUT I plan on getting a paint job, so going down to the frame (Like you videos); and that will make it all worth it. So thanks for these instructional/personal trial videos. Love it man!

BTW... I LOVE the last comment you made about yourself saying not to do something...that's ME, EVERYDAY!

I know this is years later, but thanks for putting it out there. As far as supporting my bike I bought a chain fall wench and hung it from a board I ran in the roof joists, and made a chain support hooking to the frame. You can slide it front to back to level the project as you remove parts and shift load centers.

Just got a 91 for free. no ignition coil. Is there any suggestions for wiring in a simple on/off switch and not having a key?

Is there any reason to not leave the cylinder covers (min 4:14) removed and ride without them? Should be possible, right?

Hey. I'm looking for some help. I would like to wire a tachometer on my 05 s83 (1400 intruder). From what I see the ignition wire of the tachometer needs to wire to the negative of a coil. Does this seem right? I'm used to just wrapping the wire around the spark plug lead but that doesn't work here.

@@hillyer96 I did. I don't have the bike anymore but if I remember correctly I wired the tach lead to the orange wire before the coil itself. Double check the wiring diagram for the color though as I'm going off memory from 2 years ago. Whatever you do don't try to wire to the output side of the coil which is the sparkplug lead. Your tach will go up in smoke. Power and ground are just your normal positive and negative. Some tachs work by simply coiling the tach lead around the sparkplug wire (around the outside insulation) with 5 or 6 wraps. The tach on my old DR650 worked this way but not the one I put on the 1400.
