  • How to avoid the trap of having to show the dog you've got food before they agree to obey commands? Teaching basenji to concentrate on the owner and not the food reward.

Yes! There's a difference between bribe and reward, and this is a really great explanation!
A good way to generalize this training for people who don't train their dogs outside of standard obedience, is to use the "come here" command in situations at home. If you're watching a movie or doing chores, just tell the dog to come for no reason. Most dogs will do that unless they're busy, and then you praise and tell them they're getting a treat from the kitchen. That way they learn that there is always a possibility of a treat at home, even when they can't smell them.
Btw, what exactly is it you say to them (in your language) when you praise them? It sounds so beautiful and calm.

Sounds like "молодец" which translates to "well done"

thank you very much for your feedback! great illustration with calling the dog out of reason, and then rewarding. Indeed, when all training is just structured sessions, the dog tends to do great in the session, but does not generalise that learning and concentration to everyday life and situations.
I say in russian "molodets", which is probably closer to "good boy/girl" or "fine fellow", its a personslised praise 😊

Great presentation, really helps to see it in practice. Your videos are helping me so much with my new puppy...mixed breed, most likely husky basenji mix. I know huskies, but she is showing a lot of basenji traits and discovering these videos has been a blessing! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and training skills for us.
