    Your shelf is awesome! Please what screws did you use to attach to metal on the shelf above slider door? They looked smaller than the wood into metal screws i have.. ALSO please... where did you get and what type of carpet did you use.. I'm having trouble finding something that i am confident in.... Thanks again... I'm going to try and build it for my van.. wish me luck!

      thank you, they are the same wood/drywall to metal self drilling screws i have shown a bunch on the channel. I get them from home depot. I have a variety of sizes, 1''1/8th i use the most. The carpet i used is also from home depot. They all have it. It's like a grey industrial type

      @@BuildingVanLife Funny because I do the same! Always look at the side door especially because those curves are weird. Im doing a bulk wall So I'm hoping it helps since ill have an additional piece to screw into.

    Very nice. Do you find when your getting in the side door you have to duck a little longer going in so as not to hit the shelf?

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not going in, but when going out you do have to slightly duck your head. It's very slight though, tape some cardboard up and test it.

    Nice job. Are you pre drilling your self tappers? I have no luck with self tappers securing anything. Also, I'd love to see what all your caulk joints look like now, after a bunch of constant expansion contraction, and some dirt road riding... Is it holding up?

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No I don’t pre drill the self tapping screws that’s the purpose of using them. I have 10k miles on my current van and haven’t had to touch up any of the caulking joints yet

  • @madeleinehughes4757
    @madeleinehughes4757 ปีที่แล้ว

    The wood-to-metal self drilling screws won’t get through these spots in my Ford Transit (D pillar and area above back door). I even tried pre drilling and can’t get a metal bit through it. Did you have any trouble with this on the promaster? Any tips?

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have only build promasters and sprinters. There are certain sections on structural beams I can’t get through but you should be able to get through any regular sheet metal sections

    What type of paint do you use in the van, and are you applying with a brush or roller? Thanks!

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Behr semi gloss Swiss coffee. I use a combo of a cut in brush and a mini roller. The thin type.

    Hi!
    Thanks for sharing!
    How do you avoid condensation on the metal parts if the wood is fixed to metal?
    Won't the wood rot over time?
    Thanks for your input!

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have either sprayed foam or stuffed traditional insulation behind all the metal parts if you look closely. It’s the rapid temp change that causes a lot of the condensation. With that and ventilation you can minimize it as much as possible. I haven’t had any issues with it yet.

  • @mariovenegas8468

    Quick question bruddah do u use 1-1/2 Brad nails ? as well on the inside side walls installing ship lab panels? just curious if use any screws wondering if it’s going to hold up thanks

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used screws on almost every piece of ship lap, on the small detail pieces that couldn't be screwed, I brad nailed them and used wood glue also.

    Looks fantastic! I'm a little worried about how permanent it all is. What happens when you need to change lightbulbs in the back or get to your slider door wiring? I'm really looking for a way to make it all a bit more removable without cutting caulk and tearing it all out.

    • @BuildingVanLife
      @BuildingVanLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shelf isn’t actually covering any of access to the tail lights. Those are accessed from the columns in the corners. Those won’t be closed off permanently. If you’re referring to those little red lights above the doors on the exterior those are changed from the outside. Above the sliding door there isn’t any wiring in there.
