In my video ranking the classic Mega Man games I mention that my opinion of Mega Man 10 has changed since reviewing it. I feel like the other games present their best content in a very straight forward way, and approaching mm10 in the same way (playing straight through as Mega Man) didn't reveal Mega Man 10's best qualities. The Mega Man Killer levels are great. I just missed them since I was approaching this game the same way I approached the other games.
This is why MM10 is my all time favorite MM game, not only it includes more characters but also has more in game content and has playable challenges, something that 9 doesn’t have. Oh and you can’t forgot about the difficulty setting.
I guess it depends on how you view it. For some people the extra characters and the difficulty setting make the game better, for other people that makes it worse. I understand why some people love it though.
9 is very fast paced and reaction based, while 10 seems to be more like a strategy game. If you go straight from 9 to 10, you’ll probably die a lot, because 10 wants you to take your time and slowly analyze each room. Compare the elephant boss from 9 to the lightbulb boss in 10. If you know what you’re doing, you can breeze through the elephant with the Mega buster, but with the lightbulb it can take a long time depending on your position. Wily stage 2 is another good example of needing to be patient (the crushing pillars, the pit hoppers, etc.). And of course, half of the weapons are pretty much traps that you need to trick the enemy into touching, while in 9, the items just require brute force. For me personally, I have ADHD, so I prefer 9, because if you know what you’re doing, you can breeze through the game, without having to carefully inspect everything on the screen. I like both games, but I’m sure everyone’s opinions will be different, depending on if they prefer faster gameplay or more of a ‘thinking man’s game’.
I never thought of it that way, but yeah, 10 does really want the player to slow down and strategize. I also prefer 9, and I think most people seem to prefer 9, but I'm glad they tried something different with 10.
"10 seems to be more like a strategy game" I have no idea what game you played, b ut the fast paced aspect that exists within 9 also exists here. Even more so since robot masters on hard are really something else.

I think you made an interesting point about Mega Man 10 being balanced around Protoman. I wouldn't go quite that far, but playing as Protoman in MM10 is really cool. It does feel like Protoman has many good answers for the traps in the game. His charged shot is wide enough to hit crouching enemies and he can slide under Shield Attackers and bosses. You weren't imagining the reduced cash flow, either. Protoman's items cost more at the shop, he has fewer purchase options and he finds fewer bolts in levels. That + him taking twice as much damage as Mega makes him a very fun and rather balanced choice. MM10 is one of my favorite mega man games because it has so much content and so many ways to play. There's a difficulty to suit every skill level and a character for every play style. I think the robot masters are generally some of the best in the 8 bit games and music is extremely memorable. Go listen to Solar Man, Nitro Man, Pump Man and (this game's) Wily 1. Those tracks are every bit as good as the songs in MM2 and MM3. The boss weapons are kind of mixed. They aren't as bad as what you'd get from a game like MM5, but definitely not as useful or fun as MM9. Solar Man, Blade Man, Nitro Man, Commando Man, Strike Man and Pump Man all have solid weapons for Mega to use though. Sheep Man and Chill Man's weapons are trash. But you can also get special weapons from completing special challenge stages. My ideal Mega Man game would be something with MM10's playable characters but MM6's Rush Adapter system for all characters. The power and jet adapters in MM6 were extremely fun and those would be a way to add a charge and some mobility to Mega without just giving him the charge buster and slide again. With shoulder buttons on modern controllers, you could easily map rush adapters to the triggers and swap freely. I'd personally prefer that to the double gear system from MM11.
This was my first Megaman game and is what got me into Retro Gaming in general. It came out right around the time where I felt really bored with modern games. I felt alienated by the praise some of the triple A games got, because to me alot of them felt uninteressting. So Megaman 10 gave me exactly what I was looking for at the time, I grew up with the PS1/PS2 so the 8bit world was very new and exciting to me. I played through the game many times and I remember how exciting it was waiting for the DLC Special Stages and Endless Mode. After that I played all the other Megaman games and by extention alot of the great 8 bit and 16 bis games. I think from 2010 up to 2016 I almost exclusively spent my time catching up on all the classic games that came out before I was born. Completely missed the launch of the PS4 because of it. Anyways while not my favourite Megaman game nowerdays 10 holds a special place in my heart
That's cool that 8-bit games felt fresh for you when you played 10. It's still a cool style. You're not the first person I've heard mention the special stages or endless mode. I might need to revisit this game and check those out.
@@MeguhFan The first special stage was very tough especially without the bosses weakness which you get from another special stage. But that didnt release until later.
8:41 Playing as Proto Man makes you wanna use items even more since he gets double the damage. Yet he has no damage reducing item like Mega Man. The hell did you play?
If you ever get a capture card, you should Evaluate all 11 games. It will back up all your points about the games. And I prefer evaluations over regular LPs.
Review Mega Man 10 might feel wierd but you'd stop feeling it if play this game. The game is beautiful, stage design is top notch and robot master fights are great. In terms of flaws, the weapons are the low point in the game but you will quickly forgive it. 8.2/10
I'm not a super player, but I beat 9 and 7, which I think are considered to be difficult entries in the series. Maybe I just needed more practice with 10, but the game is clearly balanced toward using items.
@MegaFan all megaman games are generally considered difficult except maybe 6 and/or 5. Even so they still provide some type of challenge. But you talking about mandated items by design and unavoidable attacks that's a big untrue
@@Immunity1080 I didn't say the items are mandated. Clearly people can choose to not use the items. What is clear is that e tanks are extremely easy to come by in mm10. I didn't mean to communicate that enemy attacks are unavoidable when playing as Mega Man, but the enemy attacks in this game feel much harder to dodge (for me, there are definitely better players out there). When playing as Protoman it was easier to avoid some of the same attacks I kept getting hit by, and the shield easily lowered the number of hits I took. When I put all these observations together I came to the conclusion that the design of the game encourages players using Mega Man to use more e tanks, or switch to Protoman. Personally, I didn't love how this made me feel. I still really liked the game overall.
i just finished this game and my only real complaint was the slime mets and the variety of enemies that simply attempt to overlap your sprite as an attack. The axes in blade man's stage, the spider robots, and the square robots that divide themselves all had this same kamizaze style and they just remain overlapping with mega man after you get hit during your invulnerability. It can be frustrating trying to move away from them to shoot them because they will try to remain on top of you.
He did not get Roboenza, he got normally sick because he’s a human. And he left his room before the police could grab him , but he left the medicine on his bed saying thank you for saving me
Nah man. 12 needs to look even better than 11. We have megaman maker, MAGMML, and miscellaneous fan games in 8 bit. I would suggest you go play some rom hacks
I love Mega Man 10…BUT has anyone out there ever beat it on Hard Mode as Protoman?! The difficulty is beyond insane, and unlike any other challenge in any Mega Man game in any series. I consider myself a top tier Mega Man player (and with many other hard retro games), but I cannot get past the boss rush. The robot masters have more advanced attacks and Protoman takes so much more damage that you can’t afford to get hit at all. I tried countless times and it’s as close to impossible as a game can get.
Even though Mega Man 9 is a better game, I will list a few things Mega Man 10 does better than 9. 1. Let's start with the elephant in the room, Mega Man 10 has weapon toggle. I usually am not a fan of Weapon Toggle but it is better to have it than not. I actually have no idea why did they removed weapon toggle from Mega Man 9. Mega Man 9 has awesome weapons but Menu makes it a bit clunky. With weapon toggle, you have much more control over what to do. 2. Maybe it is just me but Mega Man 10 looks better. I am actually a huge fan of Mega Man 6 artstyle and Mega Man 10 in my opinion takes notes from that game. Mega Man 9 is just a more animated version of Mega Man 2 and I am not a huge fan of 2's artstyle. Morose for me. 3. Mega Man 10 has better End Game stages. Not to say Mega Man 9 has bad ones, they are definitely great but RM stages are better in that game than Wily. Here, even if the Robot Master stage quality is a downgrade from 9, that quality continues through the end. Sure wily stages do lack a theme but when did they had one. The best part? *THERE ARE NO FORCED WEAPON USAGE* Hurrah! I like when there are no forced weapons usage 4. Mega Man 10 also has better wily bosses. Lowest point of 9 is definitely the bosses. First one is too deviant for a Mega Man game. Second one is too easy. Third one is loner than it should be. Wily Capsule is also pretty wierd. In 10 however, Wily bosses are better except Block Devil. Weapons Archive and Crab Puncher are the two best Wily Bosses ever made period. Wily Machine is great reactionary fight and Wily Capsule is good and difficult unlike 9 where it's cheap. 5. Mega Man 10 has less cheap deaths. Mega Man 10 have it's fair share of cheap moments but they aren't as prevalent as in Mega Man 9. Almost 95% of deaths in Mega Man 10 are from your own fault where as in Mega Man 9, 20-30% of deaths are artificial. 6. Mega Man 10 is it's own thing while Mega Man 9 decided to copy designs from Mega Man 2 and 3. With the exception of Strike Man, all of the bosses in this game are unique where as in 9, all bosses are just rehashed version of Mega Man 2/3 bosses. Except Galaxy Man. To add insult to injury, Menu, Stage Selected, Weapon Get and Wily Map music are all Mega Man 2 music. 7. This is an extension of the last point but Mega Man 10 is much more experimentation. I am okay with experiments as long as it isn't too deviant, unlike in Mega Man 8 and X8. Mega Man 10 have unique designs from Rocket Football to Moving Scales. 8. This might also be just me but Charector Balance is better than 9. 9 was made with Mega Man in mind and Proto Man was an afterthought. I was never able to complete 9 as Proto Man. With Mega Man 10, each and every stage was designed with Proto Man and Bass in mind. I never felt that Mega Man 10 is too easy or too difficult with Bass or Protoman. Sure there were spots where I thought that I wish Mega Man was here but there were equally spots where I felt man I am glad I am not playing as Mega Man. I will say it again, Mega Man 10 is not better than 9. For every thing 10 does better than 9, there are 2 things it does worse. But people should not overlook any points in Mega Man 10's favour.
while i disagree on your take of the game not being optimized for megaman, watching your gameplay kinda makes me understand since you seemed to be struggling/spending a lot more time on some sections that i never has issue with.
You should make a “redux” review on this game. It is the second best Mega Man game in existence (only bahind Mega Man 9). Absolute amazing game. Mega man 9,10,4 thats the top 3 games.
I forgot to mention (WATCHING THIS AGAIN.) they legitimately copied the plot line, a boss name and some art from a Fangame you might have played called Megaman Unlimited. Way back when, they released a contest where MegaPhilX released a fan video titled Megaman 10 and he won.. Next thing you know, Capcom releases Megaman 10, which is cool, BUT. Phil had a boss named Nitro Man first. He was based off of Nitroglycerin. Now he’s Trinitro Man. There was a robot disease going around as well as the main plot line. Also, Comet Woman’s background is STILL on Capcom’s MM10 website. It’s a shame. It’s wild. But eventually MegaPhil got to Meet Keiji Inafune and stuff and he doesn’t seem too upset about it now. *shrugs*
So this Phil had also a robot master named "Nitro Man" but there it ends and Capcom really didn't even notice that fan game Unlimited existed. Andf this is a lie: "Comet Woman’s background is STILL on Capcom’s MM10 website" Stop being so weird.
Interesting thoughts about the game. As far as the normal just mega man mode that I feel is how you grade mega man games for the most part, I think 10 is probably 3rd best behind 9 and 3 and just ahead of 4(?), still not 100% sure on how I would rank them because there's just so many good/different aspects of them all. I completely disagree that the game is balanced with etanks and stuff in mind with mega man. Proto Man takes more damage so making areas where he can slide under stuff if you're good enough to do it is good gameplay and level design with multiple characters in mind. If you want to play it faster, maybe, but I don't agree with that aspect of your video. The Proto Man mode in 9 was just thrown into the game as a bonus, in 10 it would make sense that given that the selling point of the game was Proto man is available at the start and there's an easy mode and all that stuff, the game was made with Proto Man in mind, but not really just him in mind. Bass mode was "thrown in" though, I don't think much of the game has him in mind. Being able to switch robot masters would be a great idea for "future" titles if they went this route again especially once you beat the game with all 3 characters or whatever. I always wanted to play as Roll and her play basically like Zero with a Broom ala Power Up or Tatsunaku vs Capcom. I found other than Commando Mans stage and wily 2 that Mega Man 10 was a much easier game overall. I'm a vet so I never thought that I had to use weapons or anything to beat the game. I don't really use the shop for etanks and stuff, hell I don't really use them much when I play through hacks unless they are legit unfair b.s. in 8 robots, at least. But, once you start including the multiple characters and the multiple difficulties, there's 9 play modes that all play and feel different. Mega Man 10 is probably the best mega man game ever made because of the play options. Again, just the normal mega man mode I'd put as 3rd, but the total package is undeniable. Plus the DLC weapons and stages and mega man killer stuff. Mega Man with the DLC weapons at the start is awesome, Ballade Cracker breaks the game wide open and Mirror Buster as well. I'd love to see a speed run of mm10 just DLC weapons...maybe I'll do that some day... My biggest gripe about MM10 is probably the credits taking 10 years to finish and all of the people in MARKETING who got a shout out. I love the robot masters of this game too, but you are sleeping on the weapons and their utility as well. Specifically, the Wheel Cutter might be the most fun weapon to use in all of mega man. Great review imo, even if I don't agree with your main point which is that mega man feels weak in this game. Edit: Also I'm not sure if you mentioned the weapon swapping without the menu that's a big addition vs 9.
I beat all the other games without spamming e tanks or glitching levels, so I was surprised at two things: 1. how easy it was to get e tanks in this game, and 2. how much more manageable the game is when they are used. Maybe I ruined the game for myself by assuming the designers wanted me to use the e tanks, but they were really easy for me to get. You mention the DLC and the Mega Man killer stuff, and I think I need to go back and check that stuff out. Reading through the comments, it's become clear that there is more to Mega Man 10 than my single playthrough revealed.
@@MeguhFan Too many people said that mega man 9 was too hard so they opened it up a bit more, making finding etanks easier and screws easier to obtain, I won't argue with that, I just think you can ignore those as a player if you want to. I've played mm3 as a very small child and I always ignored etanks.
You didn't mention any of the cool extra content and difficulty modes
But most importantly the Mega Man Killers

Protoman takes more damage because of his faulty power core
Never thought of it like that but It makes sense
I was thinking about that on my walk today, maybe he has a shield to compensate for his faulty core instead of going back to dr light to get it fixed.

Oops, I meant 10. Thanks for the catch.

Megaman 10 is the best classic megaman game, it also has a lot of bonus content like megaman killers
I have a shirt with the Mega Man 10 box art on it I got in 2011 and it still rules.
It's very cool box art, so I'm sure it's a cool shirt.
@@MeguhFan You betcha
The water shield is really strong in this game. For example on that castle mid boss it rips it apart quickly doing 6-8 hits per use
Review
Mega Man 10 might feel wierd but you'd stop feeling it if play this game. The game is beautiful, stage design is top notch and robot master fights are great. In terms of flaws, the weapons are the low point in the game but you will quickly forgive it. 8.2/10
Personally, I like Mega Man 10 a bit more than 9.
All i hear is "skill issue skill issue skill issue" lol
I'm not a super player, but I beat 9 and 7, which I think are considered to be difficult entries in the series. Maybe I just needed more practice with 10, but the game is clearly balanced toward using items.
I agree tbh lol, sorry @megafan , a lot of this review came off as skill issue
@@robmoore3176 no worries, maybe I'll revisit this game.
18:30 What? Wait. WHAT? Mega Man 10 came just one year after Mega Man 9 and the race for "pixel art" games was ridiculous.
He did not get Roboenza, he got normally sick because he’s a human. And he left his room before the police could grab him , but he left the medicine on his bed saying thank you for saving me

Probably caught the real-life inspiration Influenza
Lot of things you ramble on about "Proto Man being different from Mega Man himself" have existed in that exact way in Mega Man 9 as well.
I hope theyll give us at least one more 8 bit Mega Man game
That would be cool, or a 8bit+ styled game like Fez or Celest.

To me, I think the game is more balanced around Megaman or Bass as when I deal with well... Protoman, he's a glass cannon and kind of the hard mode.
And speaking of Demon's Souls, it's the best Souls Game!!!!
I'm more of a Bloodborne guy, but I respect that opinion.
@@MeguhFan I love bloodborne too😃😃
yeaha new video😃 Mega Man 10 was a bit easier to handle to me than Mega Man 9 and I got and played both on PS3🙂
Oh cool, so you go to play them when they came out? I only played 9 when it came out, and I just now played 10 this year.
@@MeguhFan I was buying 9 and 10 around 2 years ago on my ps3 and it was fun to me😃
@@FarmerSlideJoeBob Oh cool!
I like when there are no forced weapons usage
Is MegaMan nine and 10 real MegaMan games made and composed by the same people who worked on the originals?
*shrugs*
Where's Mega Man 10 Website?
You aren't using the special weapons enough
He might've recorded a buster only run along with the others and a regular playthrough
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS.
