One of my biggest disappointments was going through all the trouble of swapping an LS in the early 2000s before anyone else, only to find out that a 93'' wheelbase wants less than 200hp before the rear wants to trade places with the front. Like bringing a bazooka to a knife fight. I called it the White Knuckler.
I am a 100% certified LS fanboy, but this is so much better than just plopping another LS into another TJ. Love to see someone put a build together with what they've got, rather than running their credit card up online
Something about the 318 cackle too I have a 96 Zj 5.2l and not just me but she is the town favorite the way she sounds they say it's the baddest sounding jeep they have heard. I always teller but the 5.9 would sound just a Lil better haha😂
Great job man! I absolutely love the 5.2 & 5.9 Jeeps, so this was super fun seeing one swapped into a wrangler and driving!! Million times better sounding than a LS V8 as well!
I wish you could send the 5.2 v8 s to Australia instead of the scrap metal them. The 318 has a good following here in Australia with the small to medium sized dodge trucks. Aluminium is for planes and coke cans. Bloody awesome job mate well done
i dont think he has been scraping them, i think he was saying that he just sells them for scrap metal prices (meaning, because they dont sell many because they are very dependable and people dont need to replace them often, he is just selling the dirt cheap to people)
Cool i have a 2000 dodge 1500 4x4 laramie slt quad cab long bed 5.2 litre 318 magnum V8 46 RE 4x4 automatic overdrive transmission manual shift transfer case lever on the floor truck has 210k miles doesn't tick or knock, smoking a bit on startup carrying decent oil pressure at engine operating temperature, and the transmission was already fitted with a replacement front pump input shaft seal and torque converter so it shifts immediately into reverse and started backing up
honest part reviews are good. nothing wrong with that honestly. as long as you don’t sell out and tell the truth about the product. if it’s good it helps A LOT of us.
Weird you say the 5.2 is scrap metal. They’re not as common is a better statement. Plus if you’re not selling them it means they’re holding up. I’ve owned quite a few and all had 200k+
Actually think Dex means to emphasize the 5.2 and 5.9 rarely fail, so for him they aren’t good sellers. Calling them scrap only because he has no market for used 5.2 and 5.9. Maybe he will correct his description in future videos.
hey Dex you popped up on u tube and i was shocked i hadnt seen you before.i have been doing the same kind of strange mods to jeeps for about 15 years and one of them i found was to cut the control arm out move it over and replace with a bicknell arms with hyme joints. thank you for the novak hook up never knew they were out there.
try a the spacer (under the air cleaner on top of throttle body)off the top of a throttle body chevy 88-94 350 they work really good for raising the top hat you were playing with.
Keep it up man this kind of stuff is awesome. I am amazed at what all you figure out. This is way better than an LS swap. Thanks for sharing your projects with everyone.
i have put a TJ shifter plate in an XJ, so theoretically you could grab an XJ auto shifter plate and bolt it in there for your PRNDL and not need to do any custom sealing work on the trans tunnel
Hey it's beautiful back in the 60s and 70s they'd swap in 327s 350s but some enjoyed a Ford 289 302 351s..... AND man the ford's always sounded better to me but that dodge 5.2 and 5.9 are FRICKEN MUSIC JUST RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE AND THAN ROAR AND ROAR DOWN THE ROAD 😂😂😂❤❤❤
You have a good thing going kidd and working on stuff I like makes it better. Now as for not reviewing parts for unknown maybe small companies hell may even be family owned small business why and the world would u even consider helping them get started with all ur star power! That’s showing your clout! And Jeep is Chrysler same as Dodge has been since the early 70s MOPAR2YA KIDD
Hi dex, got a question about the 96 transmission model. I wanna do a 5.2 swap with aw4 like you did in the wrangler , but in an xj. I have a spare aw4 transmission (dont know the year) but do i need the tcm from a 96? And some more info on the wiring if you can, especially for the antitheft system. The grand cherokee 5.2 i have is a 97. I am from the netherlands, know howabout this is really hard to find here
It was done with me 3 times now but I don't know what I did with the wiring diagram on the 4/6 cylinder to the 5.2L/5.9L swap in the Wrangler. It has been 4 to 5 years now since I have done one and the last will be one in a Cherokee or Wrangler but probably a Cherokee with a 5 speed.
Hey dex so I changed my cps with a brand new oem mopar one and I still have the problem of it stalling and the fuel relay ticking I reset the computer and it started up super good what could it be
Aye Boss, Any chance you have some 95' XJ Motor Mount Bolts laying around that you could throw up on your website, Specifically the 3 that go into the block. my passanger side bolts snapped in the block, getting them out. Unless you have a better recommendation.
Ive honestly wanted to build up a 5.2 or 5.9 litre 1994-1998 zj awd just to see what it could do maybe even a turbo, and 3 inch mandrel Bent exhaust pipe tubing and like thrush fully welded mufflers
Love 318 magnum had many Dakotas with them tire frying torque for days spun a many of donuts daily drive a 98 5 speed 4x4 Dakota now and the reason you have sold many of them is because they never give up I’ve only seen one that was hurt once and it had almost 300,000 miles on it
Believe it or not I have a 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed magnum 318 V8 4x4 and it's also a tire fryer if you get on it but it's a bit harder on fuel
Don't sleep on then 318's, whether old LA's or 5.2 Magnums. Throw a set of Trickflow heads on there, a cam and some long tube headers and you have yourself a very very easy 350hp engine that'll last 400,000 miles.
that is awesome i wish i had the ability to do this id get rid of the 42rle in my jku and put a power glide or th400 in it and get rid of that crap variable line pressure transmission worst jeep idea to date
A buddy of mine had a 2.5 4cyl 4spd manual 4x4 jeep commanche pickup truck and a parts truck his was a 88 parts jeep pickup was a 86 it was a gm tbi 2.8 v6 and 4spd manual transmission but 2wd i always thought about put in a Oldsmobile 307-350 v8 and a decent 4spd manual transmission i thought it would be neat i actually had the same plan for a 89 Chevy S10 el regular cab short bed 2wd truck i had a 2.5 tbi tech 4 and the heavier duty built 5spd manual shift transmission with the metal reverse cut gear it had a distinctive whine in reverse but someone got rid of the motor i was holding back for it so I let the truck go, now I wish I would have just hunted a 3800v6 rwd f body and put that in the El in front of the 5spd manual shift transmission
I have a 1993 Cherokee sport transmission only has first second and overdrive. I bought a 96 transmission and I also have a 96 TCM module would that be compatible
To be honest I like when automotive Chanel’s get parts sponsors and the sponsor asks them for a honest review not just say it’s great cause it’s free I think everybody is tired of hearing the same ads from the same sponsors cause they generically use automotive TH-camrs to promote their product not pertaining to cars/trucks at all (raid shadow legends. Heck yeah!! But I thought this was a build for your wife? For Valentine’s Day……. Last year lol 🤣😂🤣. Got an idea….. I have a 95 yj with a 4.0. How about a Cummins 24v under the hood 🤷🏻♂️. I have 2 complete engines

I'm so happy to see you went with the Chrysler to Chrysler engine instead of a LS and everything is LS so that's awesome to see you do this.!!!
Something about the 318 cackle too I have a 96 Zj 5.2l and not just me but she is the town favorite the way she sounds they say it's the baddest sounding jeep they have heard. I always teller but the 5.9 would sound just a Lil better haha😂

That build is gonna be beautiful when your done, i love a tj
Im generally not a chrysler fan other than jeeps but those 318's run great.
Love the 5.2 in a wrangler!!!
That's bad ass
318 engines are awesome, I use the 318 and 360 engines a lot.
I would really like to see a detailed explanation on the wriring i have a 5.2 laying around
I wish you could send the 5.2 v8 s to Australia instead of the scrap metal them.

@@MrMrsregor thanks for clearing that up 😌
Just bought my first set of xj’s solely off this content keep it up dex
That is a nice radiator
why didn't you use the 4wd 318 transmission and transfer case
OBD2 and OBD1 talking to one another. NIce!
You may not like making long videos, but we like long ones!
Gosh I know. They just don’t usually get as many views. Tough call.
You did check transmission fluid in neutral

I noticed your team Hayden shirt. New to watching you. What’s the story with team Hayden?
Weird you say the 5.2 is scrap metal. They’re not as common is a better statement. Plus if you’re not selling them it means they’re holding up. I’ve owned quite a few and all had 200k+

Im sure you already figured it out but you could've maybe tried a dodge durango/dakota air box
hey Dex you popped up on u tube and i was shocked i hadnt seen you before.i have been doing the same kind of strange mods to jeeps for about 15 years and one of them i found was to cut the control arm out move it over and replace with a bicknell arms with hyme joints. thank you for the novak hook up never knew they were out there.

Keep it up man this kind of stuff is awesome. I am amazed at what all you figure out. This is way better than an LS swap. Thanks for sharing your projects with everyone.
I’m just honored to know someone who could actually pull off what you accomplished with this build. Impressive. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

My 93 grand wagoneer had a 318 with 200k miles, runs great
Mine has 120K and runs like a champ.
I need a computer for a cheap Cherokee. But apparently I need a California computer. Do you have one of those?
i think this might make you a computer hacker.
Cool build. It will be a blast.
This that Chrysler Dodge Jeep Wrangler 😂 he really got the whole dealership in this custom build is dope shows skill
Ever heard of watts links for suspension.

I am thinking about putting a 5.9 magnum in a 02 jeep grand Cherokee wj.figuring out wiring before I start
I have seen a WJ with a 5.2 or 5.9 on TH-cam some years back mate
It’s on my list too!!

I’ll try to make that happen tomorrow Long with an idea for them.
@dexjs Sweeet, I'll be on the lookout for them on the website. I appreciate it. Love the videos too, can't wait to see what you got cookin.
this maynot be a LS swap so you could call it a BS swap good job on the 4 speed swap
I like it a lot
Where bouts in TN do you live? I live in NORTH CENTRAL AL. NEAR CULLMAN,AL.
👍👍 Bring on that TJ content brother!
318 will eat LS for breakfast 👍🏻🇦🇺🇺🇸🇨🇦.
Please come back to the real world

How easy would it be to swap an aw4 into a zj? I can find them for cheap..

Sounds like a jeep starting 🤔
At least then you have a motor that's not a boat anchor...
Thought that was ur wife’s jeep now it’s ur Jeep what’s up lol
Is an AW4 strong enough for a V-8 engine?
Comes behind the skyline I-6 which is legit HPs so I honestly DK 🤷♂️
You should do a supercharged 4.0 I’m building one right now
❤
Don't lean into the sponsor route, just do you
No doubt the plan!

Im eventually probably going to get me a jeep grand Cherokee with a 5.2 litre 318, but I gave $1,500 for this truck
Tj with ax15 and 5.9??
dodge rams good truck just leaky and destroys pads
LS swap would have been easier LOL
AW4 swap in a zj
On the list!!
Hurry up. I've got my AW4 on the floor waiting for the how to
