Oh there’s Ed! We haven’t seen him for a minute! I hope you’re well, Ed 🙂
Good to see Ed!! Hope he's doing well.😊
Anyone know why Ed has a neck brace on
@@theworst4980 i think i saw or heard that he fell but im not 100 percent sure
Father Time may be gaining on Ed. I know Ed will have the best of care.
Great to see Ed rolling around.
Watching this channel makes me feel good….i live alone..no family, its cold..and i am old…the vibration of matt , jamie…all matts buddies..just plain gives me hope in humans..with so many mad, angry truck guys..matt and his team are a true testament to family, friends, and God……rudy too…lizzy….the drone pilots from the older videos….the beard guy..all of matts team over the years, i thank you with all my heart, you have made me smile, you dont know me, but you have given me the gift of your way of living….thank you…
Lovely post rast
I've been thinking a lot lately about what TH-cam means to people, This really is an amazing time to be alive...
If we spend most of our time alone, there is still the sense of human interaction, even if we experience it vicariously, by proxy.
Thank you for your comment, same goes for me here as I sit alone in a small house in frozen Canada 🇨🇦🇺🇲✌️😉😁
I think Tom should have given her the tips… lol. For marital Bliss sake
Matt, Quit touching Stuff right after you Cut It. Friction Makes Heat !! 😮😅😂
They were rough on you. Broke the banana. Broke blue steel. Gave you last place. Rough group of friends you got...
That is what good friends do.
Helps keep a fella grounded.
You have to admit the other guys are a little bit more methodical in their upgrades and repairs though.
He still went to the bank smiling with a bid fat payday.
@@Michael666CA .. lol , gate-money & merch would have made some cash .. but from previous videos it's pretty obvious that Matt's financial goals are to look after his family , pay his business bills & wages . have some money for toys & give some back to his community ... i don't see anything wrong with that
Please dont ever stop showing us the work you gotta do with drivelines and axles and everything ive learned alot from you guys.
I like the 1800's lathe with the three speed JEEP transmission on Fab Rats channel. What is the oldest piece of shop equipment in Matt's shop????
It's cool that Jamie wants to be more involved and hands on with her build. I like that. People tend to appreciate things more when they have their own time invested in it. And it's gonna be cool to have her in the shop morr
Mad respect for the Hogan's Heroes clip. Was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
I see Nooooooooothing!
Yes, that was a really fun show.
Hell yeah!
And as Robbie gets older, he'll look more and more like Schultz. :)
Respect
He is a HOOT
I'm glad the welding helmet hooks all turned out good! They look great! I was a little worried when I sent them they wouldn't be long enough for the helmet straps but it looks like they were plenty long.
Thanks!
Jaymie just proving time and again that she's awesome.
I dunno mahn, I saw her wrenching on Pauls tool. Don't tell Matt...
Watching her flop Rory's jeep was more awesome than the welding imo 😆
@@NeoMK i'm telling him
There is a rumor going around the welding school that Matt is sleeping with his newest student.
@@bobknull7502 that's great 🤣
Really love these "It's another day in the shop" videos.
Tom Tom has been such a great addition to the crew. He had some big shoes to fill, and he's filled them *really* well. His "Let's do this precisely" attitude is the perfect offset to Matt's "I'm just gonna eyeball this" attitude.
Great team you have, Matt. And let's not forget the guys/gals swinging the cameras, and the *amazing* editors.
I’m 40 years in construction and still think I can get more done than I do! Matt I feel your pain. Happy Birthday Jefe!
🎉
Who is Jefe? Is that Matts kid?
What a fun episode! We need more of these shop shenannigans where Matt gets things "tight enough", TomTom insists on checking it with measuring tools and Jaymie learns stuff the "just do it" style. And Lizzie welds some stuff... 😁😇🤟
I just want to know if you guys welded that hub assembly to the axle housing with the tube opened so all the stuff that you were breaking off and grinding like the slag and s*** was falling into the gear assembly please tell me you had something stuffed into that tube I just don't want to see you have to tear it all down again
Can you give an update on how Ed is doing? Seems like we are seeing him less and less. If he’s ok to share that is. Worried about him! ❤
I was thinking the same! Matt once said it was a "strained neck". They need to find a gentle chiropractor in the area. It can work wonders, especially if it is primarily percussion tool adjustments and not necessarily traditional manual style. My practice is way too far away over here in Sacramento. I use the Arthrostim tool. It could most likely
significantly speed the healing process.
So nice to see Ed! I hope his recovery is coming along nicely! I've been missing him lately!
I must have missed something. What happened to Ed? Thanks.
@@327JohnnySS He slept with your mom and got clap
Hoo Ray for Scott and Silver Fox Glass. That was so nice of you to hook Ed up with that beautiful glass door on his shower. Hope you are better soon Ed! Love you ED!
Matt sure hit the jackpot getting Tom-Tom in the shop and out on recoveries. The guy is fantastic!
I can't wait for Lizzy to build her own rig! She absorbs everything she can around the shop.
Let’s go team Lizzy!
there on that. shhhhhs
Matt's offroad recovery competition.
Maybe a custom dually to pull a horse trailer.
@Fuzzy Knuckle Yes , & I bet she's not going to be around very much longer .
Hi Ed!
I think it's awesome that the FabRats, Chad's Fab, and MORR youngsters are so involved in your enterprises.
As an old guy myself, I appreciate you taking care of the old guy! Love you!
Loved watching Jamie learning to weld. She's got the best attitude. And a great smile.
Was Jamie wearing flip-flops during the welding practice? Did not get her feet in frame while in the outfit.
Matt, of all your qualities, your ability to genuinely care for people is your most admirable attribute.
It's good to see Ed. I've been a little worried since I hadn't seen him in a video lately.
Great to see Ed back in the shop! Nothing but respect for that gentleman. (And your whole MORR team) I think you should take the Banana up The Chute backwards, and show Rory you can do it too!!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
😊 going up a hill backwards in a four-by-four is a lot easier it gives you a lot more traction sometimes it's the only way you can go up a hill
Glad to see how much Matt loves Jamie. He won't let anyone else give her tips
You know what they say….it’s never just the tip.
@@JimYeats Yes sir. I concur!
Tip's are sometimes overated... lol
This comment took a turn. 😂
Love the detailed video. I can't believe the gears and seals are actually installed when welding those C's on.? I would be concerned with all the splatter and slag dropping down the tube especially when it was vertical. Keep up the good work and I like the longer videos.
How's young Ed? Like others, must have noticed not only his absence but his neck brace, hope your recovering Ed keep safe and we look foreward to seeing you back on recoveries. Great family and friends there Matt and Jamie, you are all so good together.
84 or 85 I think
@@philb5593 Yes I though they threw an 84th birthday party, did they not? Boy I hope I am as lively at that age, most of my forefathers only lasted to 75.
Jamie is such a trooper, driver, mechanic, welder, recovery team member. Matt is a lucky guy.
Yay Jaymie! 3:48 She got a call the shop was a wreck. She pin-pointed clutter, got ‘em out, & didn’t even have to lock in the hubs!
(Matt got a free t-shirt.)
Tom, I like the beard, it makes you look distinguished!
@Maria CANCER perhaps consider changing your channel name to Maria HEALTH, whatever we focus on is what is getting our attention and energy. Have you introduced grounding and fruit diet to your health regiment yet?
100% have a crush on Jaimie 👍🏻
Well thats pretty creepy
I laughed so hard when Matt agreed to measuring without realizing Tom Tom was going for professional measuring tools. Tom needs to measure backlash, pinion preload and torque on the cap bolts. Right or wrong it would be a fun game.
I missed seeing Ed, thank you for showing him. I watch your recoveries all the time.
Just in case you were serious about throwing the old drill press in the scrap pile - I encourage selling it cheap or giving it away with all the caveats you want. There are tons of aspiring machinists and young shop people who would benefit from it, or taking it on specifically as a project to make it better (replace bad bearings, bore out the casting to true things up or sleeve bad fits, etc) as a learning project or use parts from it to repair other machines. Thanks for the great video on the front end repair and upgrades!
Watching Jamie get involved in learning the fabrication stuff makes everything more relatable. Thanks Jamie for jumping in there.
It was so nice to see Ed, we miss him! Those wrecker stickers, you could hand them out when you actually 'get them out' with the wrecker...that would be super nice. Great to see its the Banana's turn to get some TLC, thx 4 sharing love you all.
I love Tom being part of the team full time! Such a good combo
I like Tom as well... He seems intelligent and a kind soul. Also, he can dish it as well as take it
Woohoo!!! It was my pleasure!!! Anything for Ed!!
So what do you have to do for a free shower door? Curious what the secret is..🤔😁
Watching this channel puts me at ease. Im not the only one getting "Creative" with my assembly processes
I love your enthusiasm, I have been following your channel for years now. As your welding knowledge continues to grow, please stop using your slag hammer as a pick axe. Every indentation you make is a stress point that may lead to failure. The hammer is designed to be slid along the toes of the weld to remove most if not all of the slag. The better the weldor's control of parameters such as amps, weld speed, rod speed, rod angle, base prep and more will cause the slag to release more easily.
Jody from the YT channel WeldingTipsAndTricks is a phenomenal weldor worth watching and learning from if you get hungry for more!
Love the channel and all your wild adventures, just want to save you from the mistake many weldors from outside the trade make. A wire brush wheel or cup on an angle grinder can help remove what the slag hammer leaves behind.
Soo glad to see Ed. Wondered where he was and seeing the neck brace tells me I missed something somewhere. 😳 Blessed day to all of you. By the way…I LOVE the back and forth between you and Tom. You guys are heartwarming to watch. 🙏❤️🤗
Ed took a fall and broke his neck.
Oh my gosh, I am glad I was praying for him. Thank you Lord for healing him. Thank you for letting me know. 🙏❤️😔
I still have that exact same cervical immobilizer collar from my fusion surgery 7 years ago. Mine was about $650, I wonder how much they are now.......
@@jsh6952 I bet Ed got his done for free! At least as far as he's concerned
@John insurance paid for mine in full, the fusion surgery by itself was over 16k to fuse my C4 through C7 followed by 10 days in a hospital bed.
Good morning everybody and thumbs UP to Matt and all of the MORR crew! 👍👊👀
For a test run on the Banana: great opportunity to do a quick tour of the affected area of Sand Hollow and video the area, emphasis on multiple use: rock crawling, ATVs, hiking, family camping and events. Many people think it’s just for hardcore crawlers. Let’s show what it really is and get some other folks to ride along and flood their channels too; good opportunity to raise public awareness
This is a fantastic idea! Whether it's a shakedown run for the Banana, or they organize a weekend and have everyone bring their rigs to ride the trails. I hope this happens!
Brilliant idea!
I've been watching your show now for the past few months I just love your show thank you for sharing ...you got such a wonderful family and friends God-bless you keep up the good work And I loves the way you treat Ed. It's a blessing that you have each other
First. Let me say how much i love what you guys have accomplished with your shop and my favorite TH-cam Channel.
I've set up a bunch off gears and the first step is finding the pinion depth. it's usually stamped on the end of the pinion gear. It will give you the measurement you need to start out. i usually put a couple of shortened push rods across the landings where the bearing caps go. add the thickness of those rods and you have your depth. I know I'm late to this video comment but i thought i had to add my 2 cents. in the last 40 years I've even used cut up coke cans for shims. even on drag cars. you have inspired me to start working on projects that got sidelined the last few years. keep up the fantastic and completely entertaining channel that you have built! love you guys!
My Sunday morning drinking coffee is never completed without an episode of you fine folks working in the shop. Keep up the great content! Maybe one day I’ll get out to Utah and see y’all for real 🤙🏻
Matt I'm 78 and have learned you never get as much done as you planned! Good job Jaimie on your welding lesson!
Differential advice from an ancient retired technician. When regearing a differential I always reuse the pinion depth shims. I do this because it's the housing that is likely to be out of spec and pinion is a highly tolerance item so you're not likely to go wrong reusing the shims. For the preload on your carrier also like to go + .001" to .0015" do the measure Gap to get the proper preload on the carrier bearings. But you probably already knew this stuff
They have no press or bearing separator to get the old pinion shim off. They talk about it when he starts his setup process.
@@hillarylevenworth8824 hot retro take that old bearing off and you could still save the shims at least enough of it to get a measurement. You're talking to somebody with over 50 years Automotive experiencing hundreds of differential so I know what I'm talking about. Unless of course you have the setup jig for that particular differential then you could go from scratch. But regearing a differential isn't terribly hard especially Theory use the pinion depth shim.
Don't cut out the details! We love your long and detailed videos showing your work!
I'm so happy that Jayme is getting more comfortable in front of the camera. You guys have such an amazing family dynamic on this channel, which is a big reason I love watching.
Ed's doing the Supervisor's job! A man after my own heart!👍
I don't remember what happened to Ed or if you told us why he is in a neck brace ?
Praying all is healing well for him 🙏.
Loved the Wrecker Games and hope you will make it a yearly event.
Keep up the great work and be safe in your adventures.
He took a bad fall.
I've been watching you guys for years and your back and forth talk and shop banter still brings a smile. Thanks
The Robbie to Sg. Schultz cut was absolutely top notch. I'm amazed they are still able to get people to watch television with great content like this.
I think this is probably the first time I've seen Matt actually use a welding hood instead of safety squints
Next thing you know and he’ll be wearing gloves or putting on a jacket in the cold weather 😅
After seeing Matt and his team build the heavy wrecker from ground up, whatever he does is okay with me.... happy birthday Heffy
Nothing wrong with that Matt and Tom most of us don’t have presses and the proper tools. You use what u got.
Jamie, you’re so cute… you really brighten up the screen when you come on. Don’t be shy about getting in front of the camera…it’s fun to watch you interact with the other guys and Lizzie!
Matt, Congratulations on putting together a great event. I waited for the main player’s videos to experience it. Great job again. Taking last place shows how humble you are as a person. Giving Eric and BFS praise for being the original “ old G” on you tube recovery videos says a lot about you! If you ever run for President you have All my votes!
So was the reverse band smoked or was the band snapped in the 4l80e? I have a shift timing mod that I came up with years ago that prevents the band from being damaged due to repeated forward reverse forward shifting. Rigid type bands have limited adjustment ranges due to the ends of the band touching so running tight tolerances is extremely important. When people perform the dual feed direct mod a reverse engagement delay is created due to the larger volume of fluid needed to fill and exhaust from the direct drum. I run well over 2000hp in 4l80e transmissions with trans brakes and bump buttons for staging turbo cars and I never have problems with the reverse band. I run billet servos in all 4l80e builds.
Why would you need another drill press when you already have that big glorified drill press made by Bridgeport ? That will drill anything at any angle you guys can come up with and as an added bonus you can cut slots and any other shapes you can imagine 👍
Love this "community" that Matt and all of his associates and friends and family have created. So glad to have discovered this channel. 👍👍
Hi, I'm Kitty from Arizona. I have anxiety in my older age and watching you on TH-cam has been therapeutic for me. The way you deal with stressful situations has been inspiring. The more I deal with the stress I see you and your crew deal with, the more I feel I can deal with my own. Jayme is my example of a "calm and collected" woman, brave & amazing. Tom is an awesome friend that anyone would want to have. Lizzy, (married now) was a Super Girl! The dogs are Matt's "Best Friends"! And, those sons are going to be as awesome as their parents! To me, watching Matt's Off-road Recovery is a "Big Deal'!
Geat Episode, and team action! Nice to see a preheat on the weld! Hope you controlled the cooling to normalize the steel and reduce brittle spots. You guys had almost the perfect jig to roll the pipe/axle as you welded! No position welding required.
It takes time to do things right. Don't feel bad because estimated time is never the same as real time as I have been down that road before. I'm not surprised but glad you showed how to measure gear lash in the diff. Many DIY's don't do this and wonder why it fails after minimal use. I used to work on my own car years ago and had to improvise different ways to remove or install components but the one thing I wish I had was a lift like yours.
I am glad you post videos for us to see the reality of building something but I would like to know what video editing software you use. It is also a big investment and now that I am retired, I have many home videos to edit and transfer from VHS (yes you read that right)!
That was a great moment between Jamie and Matt. I saw sparks fly :)
I bet watching them setup gears is making some people absolutely flip out
Well it was Matt that really wanted to do it his way. At least TomTom tried to convince him otherwise.
I’m sure it does, but with the way these rigs are used, I am sure they will break something long before excessive wear from a slight misalignment/adjustment becomes an issue.
Off-topic, but I have been thinking about those military axles from the Corvair gift trip video - I know it may be outlandish, but an off-road school bus would be pretty cool.
It is so nice to see Ed still being a part of your videos!
Really enjoy the longer videos guys! I enjoy watching the details of your work. Camera guy is on point as well. When are you going to build Lizzie a off-roader?
I feel your pain Ed! I have had to wear one of those collars before, not fun. Wish you a good recovery. Happy Birthday Heffee!
It's Jefe (Jeff but he's The Boss)
@@JohnFL dang it. I knew I messed it up. Sorry Jefe.
I like that you are involving Jamie more. It is great to watch her learning, and she has a great personality.
Does this mean Matt is going to learn to cook.
Watching Jamie get involved in learning the fabrication stuff makes everything more relatable. Thanks Jamie for jumping in there.
Good to see Max, but is Lady on vacation. You're a good guy showing the misses how to weld. Lizzie does a fine job from what I've seen too. I want to narrow a rear end myself. Good video guys and gals.
14:57 that poster of ed creeps me out every time 😂😂 last time I saw it, it was behind the drill press and I thought ed was just standing back there watching until I realized it was just a poster thing 😂😂😂
I never get tired of watching the friendly conflict of Tom's measured and specific approach to Matt's just do it approach.
They do a great job of respectfully blending styles
Awesome to see Jaymie doing some wrenching! 💪🏼🔧
Wow, not a single boring moment again! I really like the way you interact and have fun when working! This new axle is so beefy! You also could build a tank! 😝
You should show us all of the set up I think it's really interesting. It's not boring at all. Please give me all the info. I like watching the process! I'm sure I'm not the only one! Love you guys
Great job guys. Just one tip, you shouldn’t pass your ground current through anywhere that has bearings in it. Always keep you ground clamp on the same side of the diff that you are welding on.
I've always been surprised that D44has held up so well, you guys are great drivers to keep it intact during a working life.
Matt, your philosophy of abundance is so refreshing, compared to the many examples of scarcity that are on display these days. For those that have not heard of this concept it centers around the idea that there are plenty of successes and resources so that you can share graciously with others. I have so enjoyed watching your channel and the multitude of others that I've found through you. Thanks so much!!!
Hey Matt just want to reach out to you and let you know how much I appreciate your videos really been able to pull from your positive energy and workflow and be a better person to work around because of how you react to pressure situations
I’m an 100% Disabled Air Force Veteran I stay up all night watching the Vlog episodes, at one time I taught shop class on a Navy base in the western pacific in the 70’s, then I came back to the states bummed around for a year and joined the Air Force and went farther west in the Pacific to sunny Vietnam I was a crew chief on a C-130 Gunship (SSgt) then I drove through Utah many times hauling frozen freight ( meat ) once hauling Votives for churches with candles. I can’t stop an episode half way through, I taught welding and wood working to 8th, 9th & 10 grade. NO there were no extra fingers at the end of the week or school year! Lol😊
I did that same thing to the Dana 30 in my CJ-7, grenaded the ring and pinion. Then I put a Dana 44 in the front that now has a hard time keeping stub shaft u-joints. I whole heartedly support your decision to put a Dana 60 into the Banana!
I think triple 7s with tom driving and Matt spotting would be great, just seeing you guys work together is awesome and I learn a lot watching, love the content
Love these long format building videos! Please keep doing what you are doing and don't cut the details (ie, shorten these videos) in the future!
I winced when I saw Jamie working on mechanical stuff with her rings on. So much potential for very bad stuff to happen that way!
When teaching try to show her techniques and weld patterns on metal without actual welding(you can go super slow & easier to see), and also teach her wire speed and voltage … remember you can listen to it as well! Those sounded great she should know that’s the sounds that should be produced when laying a proper bead or tacking two pieces; Always make sure you penetrate the metal! Loving the videos!!!
For your gear setup, understanding the principles and what direction to make an adjustment is way more important than knowing the right terms to use. Keep it up!
Hey Matt, can you please get someone to post the stats of how each of the teams scored in the welding challenge, the dyno numbers, the flex tests, and how far each team went on the dead pull? It'd be cool to be able to compare this years' stats against what everyone does next year & beyond. Thank you so much for everything y'all did to put on the event. It exceeded all of my expectations.
The Misadventure of Pappa F - Dyno - Eric=176 , Rory=188, Paul=196, Merlin = truck was broken down with a transfer case problem , Matt - vehicle was too big for the dyno platform
RDI ( Flex numbers )- Eric =804 ? , Rory=702, Paul= 809, Merlin=793 , Matt= 665
Welding ( Strength test ) =Eric =2900+ , 3700, 3687, Rory=2900+, 3687? Paul=2250, Merlin=2461, Matt=2943 ( All the chatter made it hard to get the
numbers right .)
( I did see a summary from MORR at one time , but , I think that even that had mistakes in it . EXAMPLE: Rory had 3 dyno chances and got 122,186, 188
but the MORR summary had his dyno number at 122.)
Love it when the Sunday videos are longer like this one.. Sunday is always Matt’s off road recovery day!!!
I really like watching u guys work on stuff. Makes me want to hit the garage and build something lol
One thing I've found that seems to work well, is use whatever amount of shims that were in the axle initially with the new gear set. It either gets right on, or really close. Reason being is that the gearsets themselves are all pretty consistent regardless of make. The housing has about 95% of the variation. Your results may vary, but you probably will have more inconsistency with older axles.
You were correct in saying that everybody has their own way of setting gears. yours is by far the most different way I've see so far. You have a great crew, though. Nice to see Ed and his new door; good looking out, Silver Fox!!! That Dana 60 is a beast, and now that it's shortened it looks mean!!! By the way, what would you do with the broken Dana 44? Great video, guys.
One of the best ever vids!! Jaymie and Lizzy learning guy stuff, they are definitely interested, and have an aptitude! More like this one would be appreciated. A hero's real power is to pass along wisdom and knowledge. Matt's a hero!! TY, Great fabrication to watch .
Women are often better welders than men. Hand skills from art, crafts or cooking are more useful than strength and eagerness to solve problems with a claw hammer.
I met Tom and his sweet wife at the wrecker games. Matt is fortunate to have such a good friend and a great addition to the channel. Tom's so smart he could be a nuclear engineer for all we know!
too smart for that that's why he's Hands-On
Matt’s relationship with Jamie is so unique and inspiring!
I sure hope it doesn’t happen but won’t be surprised if you end up doing the gears again in 6 months because of welding and grinding debris getting into the diff. You guys do amazing work, just wish the welding would have been done before the diff was put together.
Hi folks, I build motorcycle trikes and for years used plastiguage to set pinion gear preload . Now I use clingfilm. I find when the taper roller bearings just start to cut through the clingfilm, the lash is bang on. Love the channel, I was into off roading for 15 yrs with a heavily modified Daihatsu Fourtrak so your videos speak to me 😂
I could literally feel the pain growing in Tom's face (and fingers) as Matt and Jaymie discussed the finer points of thickness in thinner shims.😆😥
Howdy Hayduke!! Have you gotten any shop time in lately?
@@JohnFL Hi John! I haven't gotten into a shop, but I have had some nice days and have gotten a lot accomplished! I believe I may have even taken on an additional project since we last spoke. I'll plead insanity on that one.
How about you? What's new in the sunny South?
@@DoctorHayduke If sunshine could be shoveled, that's what I would be doing today. Otherwise, just working and getting ready for exams in differential equations and statics this week.
@@JohnFL Ahhhh...the good ol' days of advanced mathematics!
Shoveling sunshine sounds lovely! We got a few inches of snow last night, and I'd much rather shovel sunshine.
I feel Matt on that getting stuff done in a day but always coming up short 😅 thank you all for putting a smile on my face always! Amazing video!!
ED...!!!! it's great to see ed performing quality control for matt... !!!
We all know that Matt's work is not approved until Ed gives the THUMBS UP ...!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
I'm a old school gear head that doesn't own a torque wrench. It takes many years of wrenching and experience to know your tolerances. Love your channel. Keep up the good work.👍
I sometimes feel like maybe Lizzie is getting tired of comments. However, it was great to see the attention she was paying to you two setting up gears. I could totally see the wheels spinning in her head at the same time. That lady is a gem. Watch out for her she gonna catch up with yur skills.
Dare I say, I am IMPRESSED the Banana still looks as shiny as it does. Matt is really stepping up his exterior maintenance reqs for the fleet :)
