460s are awesome engines. They take stroker kits well. You can get 557 cubic inches with a stock block, 4.50 inch stroke and + .080 overbore. No mods needed to the block other than boring. You'll probably want to do a sonic check at .080 though. I built a 532 stroker for my '74 Cougar. Almost done with it. Love your vids, Mortske, especially the long ones.
If you use a machine that was previously set up for r-12 and you want to use it for r-134, change the compressor oil and filters first. It will pump beautifully.
Ive never done any of that. Ive always dumped the 134 straight in on top of the R12 and ran them for years like that. Never had a bit of trouble out of them.
@@1980bwc the issue would be with the older machine. It likely has mineral oil which causes the 134 to separate causing temperature glide issues. Because the machine was manufactured in 1993, it probably has mineral oil.

A fire blanket is really handy buddy plus the old bucket of sand can help too. The problem with car fires is fire usually has air below and fires eat air so if you can get the blanket over the top of the engine you can attack it from below. It's a cheap fix bud but it works a treat. All the best from Scotland
The square headlights on '78 Ford trucks was a "Ranger" or "Explorer" package and most, if not all 1 ton cab and chassis. Then all F100s and above starting in '79. My dad had them on his '79 F100 custom cab. It was bought new and his last vehicle. Really enjoyed this episode. Missing the "Mortske Minute" (unless I somehow missed it).
I do believe the fuel return line is to help with vapor lock, it helps keep the fuel cooler on those hot summer days. Old school hot rodders kept the fuel cool with cool cans. Also the old ford vans in the sixties had problems with vapor lock because the metal engine covers next to the driver would get so hot as to burn my thigh while driving them back in the sixties and seventies for work.
The shop I worked at in the early nineties had a Ford tow truck. I rebuilt almost everything on/in it. It was F600, I swapped out the straight 6 and 4spd. I put in a 391 with a Clarke 5spd and 2spd rear end. It had a Holmes 880 twin boom. It work very good at pulling vehicles out of the ditch. You can hook up the vehicle at 2 different points and work it back and forth to get them out.
Twin Booms are awesome! You can pull the pin, pick up stuff and swing the load in and out of trucks and trailers, and they work great for engine swaps if you don't have a concrete pad to work on.
That steering wheel I believe is out of an econoline van because the econolines had a thicker padded steering wheel than the bullnose and 78-79 ford trucks and that wood grain on it looks like the type that was in the passenger vans so thats why it feels nicer than any other plastic or whatever material they use for the steering wheels on them
Now that thing is sweet! You and Duff got enough tow vehicles to start a full fledged towing company. Crew cab prices are outta control anymore so for what your asking someone is going to get a really great deal.
The tow point for the receiver hitch can be used without the clevis, you can put a soft shackle through the hole in the tow point. Using soft shackle is safer than the clevis. If the clevis breaks it can become a projectile. Soft shackles won't.
Another great episode. With regard to Bernie's FE oil leak. Double, triple check the rear manifold for the source of the leak. I have done 2 of them (64 Galaxie and 69 f100 4wd) recently that looked like a rear main but turned out to be intake manifold leaks, they just were pouring into the bell housing. Good luck.
Couple things Mr Morske a 460 of that vintage came with the timing 8 degrees retarded at the cam if you change it to straight up you will get better milage and a noticeable increase in hp and if you want overdrive they make od tail shafts for the c6 that works well
He is correct, Mort. This is also true of the 351M and 400. A 400-inch Cleveland (even with 2 bl heads) SHOULD be a monster, but it's a neutered dog! A new timing set that sets it straight up or 4° advanced helps quite a bit.

Fire blankets are super cheap and will extinguish 95% of fires you'll run into, throw some in the cars and have a few tossing around the shop as well. A welding blanket will do the same job in a pinch. I just bought a set of extinguishers for the house and garage after a welding incident that could've gone real bad, definitely a wise investment. They're expensive, but not as expensive as losing the shop.
The biggest difference between R12 and R134 is the pressure. An R12 system will work with R134 but youll have to use a tinny bit less freon. R134 will run at a higher pressure just by nature. So at idle, R134 in a R12 system wont work as good. Going down the road it will work fine. If charged completely, R134 will blow up seals and lines and or not cool very well. As far as the recycle machine goes, it will work fine. Just use PAG oil. Will work fine. Ask me how I know 😂
Every single one of those vehicles looks great. I really respect all the guys and gals with the skill and vision to restore and build those units. Thanks to all those that keep them on the road so guys like me can enjoy them 😊
i had that " T " on a later 460 engine in an f350 about 1983. it was carbed but had low pressure electric pumps in both tanks and a mechanical pump on the block. ford said it had something to do with vapor lock problems that those trucks had in the warmer climates like here in texas.

The only reason I could imagine that tee being there in the fuel system is if it has some sort of restricted fitting (say 6psi) in the return portion ... then it would feed the carb properly and the rest would return to the tank. If it is all the same size, however, your theorizing seems spot on.

To determine what cfm carb you need to run you take the cubic inches, multiply by the max rpm and divide by 3456. If you rev a 460 to a max of 4500 rpm you'll come up with 599 cfm.
@@SpaceInTime1885 You have a finite amount of space inside combustion chambers. So unless you increase the rev limit on it, slapping a bigger carb on it is just a waste as the engine can't take in anymore fuel/air mixture.
I had a 77 Lincoln Mk V with a 460 and a FACTORY 600 cfm Holley, NOT a Motorcrap. It ran much stronger than my 76 Grand Marquis with a 460 and Motorcrap 4 bl.
33x12.5 fit on my 81 1/2 ton 4x4 Scottsdale, that was stock with 3 tapered leaf springs in the front and 6&1 rear leaf springs. Here in Michigan they are starting to harvest wheat. The rear springs being separated like that is called eagle winged and is quite common for older well used springs. There is a lot of rust scale between the leaves of the spring. Also the twin I-beams with king pins used to be available for lowering the front. That was close to 16 years ago though when I did suspension and frame work.
That old light bar is fairly valuable and easy to fix. Put it up on the bench and make a video of that maybe. Lots of parts out there but they're expensive.
You might put some food plots for the pheasants back where Mojo was tilling, we've done some plots for quail and deer where we live, it really helps them out over the winter.
Hey Mortske. Push the turn signal lever FORWARD to adjust the tilt wheel on old Fords. It's your bowtie backwards thinking that makes you want to pull the lever back. You're welcome.
Nothing wrong with Fram Oil filters. My 03 F150 had 200k on it and it’s had its share of Fram oil filters on it and it’s still going strong to this day!

After seeing all the cars at the show I realized the car to find is a 78’ Chevy Monza Wagon V8. Wish I hadn’t sold mine years ago. She had a 383 Stroker /4speed ,and handled like a corvette. Actually better ..
Round versus square headlights was a mid year change, Ford used round headlights until stock was deleted, then changed to square which was a planed style change for 79
Holy crap! I am the guy that made the brake line straighten video on tiktok! I can't believe Mortske tried it too! Works good with nicop and the hole needs to be pretty tight!
I'm not sponsored by CYCLOPS, but I would love that...THE most awesome little light, super bright and a magnet that you need to actually wrestle off anything it's hooked on!! Also, these are reasonably good vids from Mr Mortske
Thanks for speaking up about fire safety. Seriously Fire is very real. Just when you think something could never happen...it definitely can! I had a Chevy Blazer burn up in my driveway about 20 yrs ago. It started with the TBI leaking and poof, within minutes it spread thru the firewall. The fire dept had to put it out. Thanks Mortske!!
About time you done something, right? I've got a Ford F350 tow truck. Just like that, except mine has the sling on the back. The first hydraulic truck which.❤❤❤❤❤ So you're gonna have to sell yours so I can keep mine😂😂😂😂😂
I never liked fram oil filters for car but I saw a video where a guy cut open a fram filter for a Harley Davidson and to be honest I was quite impressed. The frame filter was better then what Harley was offering
Dad had a 75 f100 4x4 custom only thing it had was a am radio. It didn't even have power steering was fun plowing snow especially sitting still and trying to steer it. A 70s ford truck is my dream truck.

From North Carolina bought out of a garage in Watertown,Wi. 1994 spring or early summer no rust a nice truck, But as A ford would have it, ALWAYS Breaking down. 1999 my last fomoco truck to this day. Chevrolet and Dodge trucks WAY,way better than Fords.
In many parts of Canada, we spray rustproofing. Case in point, I have a 1984, S15 GMC Jimmy, daily driver and still have it. (Duff approved) People can't believe. Bought new from the GM dealership. Great videos, Thanks 😎👍
PLEASE put "Dirt Reynolds" on the back of it even if it's just for a "photo op" , I want to see them together ! I put a pre smog 460 in my '78 manual Bronco for towing boats , "Low fuel economy" light woulda come on at idle on up on that baby !
Years ago I had a Ford same as yours I had problems with vapor lock. Had the same edelbrock carb ,a holley high volume mechanical pump and never completely solved the problem, finally added an inline small electric pump but it would get hot and give up had I bought a better one it would have been good but the 460 was a work horse.

After the day I've had trawling the scrap yards this is perfect. Mortske and a coffee, feet up and here we go. Thanks man 👌🏼
To determine what cfm carb you need to run you take the cubic inches, multiply by the max rpm and divide by 3456. If you rev a 460 to a max of 4500 rpm you'll come up with 599 cfm.
🗿 and you can hear it screaming Feed Me, under the hood 😂
@@SpaceInTime1885 You have a finite amount of space inside combustion chambers. So unless you increase the rev limit on it, slapping a bigger carb on it is just a waste as the engine can't take in anymore fuel/air mixture.
Thanks for the info
I had a 77 Lincoln Mk V with a 460 and a FACTORY 600 cfm Holley, NOT a Motorcrap. It ran much stronger than my 76 Grand Marquis with a 460 and Motorcrap 4 bl.
Oily Rags in a can make for Spontaneous Combustion! Drop them in a bucket of water then into the outside trash the next day while dripping wet.
Puddin said you have craigers for it!!!!
My Dad had a ramp truck like that, the only difference was that his was a single cab.
That old light bar is fairly valuable and easy to fix. Put it up on the bench and make a video of that maybe. Lots of parts out there but they're expensive.
Duff is the true star. So adorable. Tell Puddin Slick is not as good or cute as Duff Dog
I have a theory Duff and Wild Man Bill are the same person😂
You might put some food plots for the pheasants back where Mojo was tilling, we've done some plots for quail and deer where we live, it really helps them out over the winter.
Love the ramp truck! Duff seems good with it,another great video
Thanks 👍
Hey Mortske. Push the turn signal lever FORWARD to adjust the tilt wheel on old Fords. It's your bowtie backwards thinking that makes you want to pull the lever back. You're welcome.
my bad!
Race car hauler, race car fuel jugs....just need the race car now Mortske 😉
" DIRT REYNOLDS " ?
Mortske has a hidden '55 gasser project that i've been pestering him about getting stuck into, lol
@@RoB_666_ T.Y. SIR.

I love the respect you show Mojo. Top shelf Mort. First class all the way.
100%
Nothing wrong with Fram Oil filters. My 03 F150 had 200k on it and it’s had its share of Fram oil filters on it and it’s still going strong to this day!
@@SpaceInTime1885 if it work it’s not garbage, and it’s my money
🗿 bought a fram that had rust on top, meaning it was exposed to the enemy of my lube system, Was the last one I bought,..
Yup K&N also Let's TONS of Particals of dust and dirt through. They are open pour filters. Even freshly cleaned and oiled. Hold it up to the Sun. You can see directly through the holes between the filter material.
Mortske much respect to you for taken care of ole MoJo. He’s a cool cat His reaction alone was worth it. Great vid.
Thank you
I have a 1978 F350 with a 16’ flatbed that’s set up for hauling cars. But mine has round headlights and my brake light on the dash is where your low fuel economy light is. Mine is a Ranger xlt also. I rescued it from Kansas with a stuck pig. I meant 400. I’m definitely looking forward to more videos on this truck!!!!
Cool
Nice truck, wouldn’t take that much to get it looking real good again.
Nice hooking up Mojo, thats the kind of respect we need to show our seniors.
Thanks 👍
As a locomotive engineer (drive trains) even blowing my horn, with the bell on, and bright lights folks still find themselves being hit at crossings. Another great video!!
doesn't sound like any fun!
After seeing all the cars at the show I realized the car to find is a 78’ Chevy Monza Wagon V8.
Wish I hadn’t sold mine years ago. She had a 383 Stroker /4speed ,and handled like a corvette. Actually better ..
Neighbor had a Monza Spyder with a blown up 305, I had a good 300 Hp. 327. Guess what Happened ?
Kids in town got a BIG SURPRISE, LMAO.
My grandparents had a '75 Lincoln Continental with a 460 and the low fuel economy light. Cool ramp truck !
Good times
Round versus square headlights was a mid year change, Ford used round headlights until stock was deleted, then changed to square which was a planed style change for 79
Holy crap! I am the guy that made the brake line straighten video on tiktok! I can't believe Mortske tried it too! Works good with nicop and the hole needs to be pretty tight!
No way!
Thank you for all you do!
I'm not sponsored by CYCLOPS, but I would love that...THE most awesome little light, super bright and a magnet that you need to actually wrestle off anything it's hooked on!! Also, these are reasonably good vids from Mr Mortske
I loved the full length feature film regarding the ford truck and associated side trips.
Ouch
You should put some cragar's on it. You love Cragars i heard you put them on everything. Crager cragar cragers. Fyi puddin said to comment on cragars
About time you done something, right? I've got a Ford F350 tow truck. Just like that, except mine has the sling on the back.
The first hydraulic truck which.❤❤❤❤❤ So you're gonna have to sell yours so I can keep mine😂😂😂😂😂
Well, I'll tell you what I'll throw you yours for mine. Have a great day. I enjoy what you do, man.
I never liked fram oil filters for car but I saw a video where a guy cut open a fram filter for a Harley Davidson and to be honest I was quite impressed. The frame filter was better then what Harley was offering
Interesting
With a 460 and 4:56 rear end. The low fuel economy lite should be on all the time. Thanks for the videos.
My truck buddy loved it so well. He had two. All the time messing with one or the other
Love your content, Mortske! I’ve learned so much about cars in the past year from you…keep up the great work!
Glad to hear it!
Dad had a 75 f100 4x4 custom only thing it had was a am radio. It didn't even have power steering was fun plowing snow especially sitting still and trying to steer it. A 70s ford truck is my dream truck.
Cool
Happy Monday, Mr. Mortske.. In the 1990s.. I had a Ford truck Newest Ever and My last. A 1978 F 100 Forest Green 300 inline 6 3 on the tree short box and it had the round head lights.
Keystone Cragers rock! Flexy rad hoses suck! PFS64
In many parts of Canada, we spray rustproofing. Case in point, I have a 1984, S15 GMC Jimmy, daily driver and still have it. (Duff approved) People can't believe. Bought new from the GM dealership. Great videos, Thanks 😎👍
Those brackets on the valve covers are for the spark plug wire holders
PLEASE put "Dirt Reynolds" on the back of it even if it's just for a "photo op" , I want to see them together ! I put a pre smog 460 in my '78 manual Bronco for towing boats , "Low fuel economy" light woulda come on at idle on up on that baby !
Sweet
Duff laying under ot at the end was the best part. Thank you for another great video. ❤
