all the books (and dnfs) i read in december 💌 some unpopular opinions in this one lol
running to finish the last 10min of captions sorry! in the mean time here's my tiktok which all has captions too hahhah

I love how you talk about books you didnt enjoy, i think so many people just talk negatively about books they didnt like but you perfectly explain what it is you didn't like. You dont bash the books or authors and that's so nice to see 😊😊
I was thinking the same thing 💁🏻♀️
Thank you for explaining the boycott a bit. I appreciate that you took the time to explain it more while sharing a way for us to do research.
As for the smp boycott I am just going to read and buy books that have already been out and just pay attention to the publishers
The “it’s not a sword, it’s a man!” Immediately made me think of the scene from Ella Enchanted. “This book is my boyfriend!” I love it

aw I LOVED the seven year slip! I kind of embraced the fact that it was cheesy and a bit unrealistic since I felt like that was its intention - to me its lighthearted approach to grief was comforting but I can definitely understand where you're coming from!
Babe you should start filtering the reviews on Goodreads to the 1 & 2 stars when you feel crazy for not liking a book, someone said that on twitter recently and I was like 🤯😂
Oh yes, i always do that. Please talk trash about it with me, people!! I even do it sometimes when I actually did like a book
Why is Cari’s timing always perfect omg?? Love love love u!!
❤❤❤
Seven deaths of the saints is becoming a full length novel! She's writing it now! She wrote the short story as a test of the idea!
Swordheart sounds like it could be an interesting tale within the Soul Eater world.
It really does, I was also thinking boyfriend dungeon.
The virgin suicides is one of my favourite books, i am currently reading middlesex by the same author and it is just as incredible in the writing
on my list!!!
his “marriage plot” is even better!❤
Middlesex is deeply flawed in its portrayal of certain groups but it's just a charming book and certainly one of my all-time favorites.
I LOVED June Farrow! So glad you enjoyed it too! Also Happy birthday! We’re bday twins. Hope it was a great day
omg happy birthday to you toooooo!
I DNFed the Seven Year Slip as well! I didn't like the start but as soon as she met the love interest I was out. I'm so glad I'm not alone in not liking it
all of us villains praise HALLELUJAH!! the sequel is just as good!! hands down 5 star series
You’re the only person on TH-cam that I NEVER skip forward on…I will sit through every second of your videos no matter how long they are…my adhd is non existent with you 😂❤️
I LOVED The Seven Year Slip!
So much respect for you mentioning the boycott here. I see very few booktubers acknowledging it! Your list is immaculate as always
always looking forward to cari’s reviews bc they’re accurate and on point 😫
I wanted to let you know something about Libby if your didn't already know! You've mentioned that you get your books from the San Diego library but Californians can get a library card at any California library and a lot of counties have temporary digital cards you can sign up for on their website with out having to visit a branch in person. I highly recommend getting additional library cards so you don't have to wait so long for books to come in. San Jose County, Alameda County, and Fresno County are the biggest ones I know of that have online library cards.
Thanks for talking and explaining about the SMP boycott. I honestly didn’t know about it until you talked about it. But I’m glad you’re supporting other influencers that weren’t treated properly by said publishing press.
i’ve been raving about all of us villains for years!! it’s so underrated!
I rated the seven year slip 3 stars. I didn’t care one bit about the romance (but I’m picky with romance heavy books in general, it’s rare for me to rate them high) but I enjoyed the whole thing about her aunt and the topic of grief otherwise it would be a dnf and luckily the book was quite short. I still see people getting emotional and rating it 5 stars so I don’t know 😭🙏🏻
I absolutely loved All of Us Villains and All of Our Demise this duology was everything I could have asked for and wanted! ❤
Happy New Year Cari! Thanks SO much for putting Holiday Romance on my radar, I just ATE IT UP! It was like a festive People We Meet on Vacation with great banter and absolutely no cringe in sight! I hope more people pick it up because of you.
I've barely started watching the video, but i was like "OF COURSE she's a capricorn, that's why I like her so much!!" A huge chunk of my favorite people (friends, writers, youtubers, actors, musicians etc.) are either Cap, Virgo or Taurus. Such an Earth sign filled little gang I have in my heart. It's so funny to me how many of us Earth bound babes I simply adore. Fellow December Cap here, but on the 28th. Happy belated birthday
I'm really enjoying the T Kingfisher love. I read The Hollow Places last year and it was so much fun. Now I'm reading What Moves the Dead and looking to explore more of her work this year.
I literally just finished two by her today, The Twisted Ones and Thornhedge. Both so good! I think I'll read What Moves the Dead next since I already own it but I want to get to The Hollow Places soon.
5:36 thank you for explaining and supporting this
Strange the Dreamer is also by Laini Taylor but I think it’s even better than Daughter of Smoke and Bone!
Also if you like Alix E. Harrow, The Once and Future Witches is an absolute masterpiece
A Fate of Wrath and Flame sounds like your standard Isekai-Manga but without the art to keep your attention :'D
Perfect timing as always! So excited to see what you read in the last month of 2023 ❤
thanks for being here :')
Yay!! I’ve been needing a Cari book video!! Thank you 🥰
2023 has been an incredibly hard year in so many ways to me, but your voice cari, was kind of the soundtrack of my daily life. I cannot count how many times I've relistened to your plot summaries, and a new video is always a nice treat to make it all more manageable.
Thanks for providing laughs in tough times! Cheers to a better 2024!
a better 2024 indeed!! sending love~
I completely agree about The Unmaking of June Farrow, I lost sleep because I needed to know the outcome! 😂
Can you spoil it for me? So I know whether I should read it? 😂
cari, i am a new subscriber this year and have just loved your content. you have such a lightheartedness about you and i read my favorite book of the year at your request (the bandit queens!!). thanks for a great year!!
happy belated birthday cari!! thank you for so much amazing content this year & i’m so excited to see what’s to come!
thank you so much!!
Happy birthdayy, loved the vid! ✨ Always adding so many books to my TBR! (I’ve also got to pick up A Dark and Hollow Star as a huge Shadowhunters fan 😅)
thank you! good luck to you hahah let me know how it goes!
Omg LOVED The Unmaking of June Farrow! Definitely my favorite read of 2023. I didn't know the audiobook was so good, so I guess I'll just have to read it again via audio!
Yes! The Six Deaths.... was one of my favorite reads of the year. I'm happy to see you give it such a positive review.
I get so excited when you post!!
wahhh thank you :''''')
I have always associated winter months with thrillers and have also found some solid thrillers on the way. Penance actually made it into my 5-star reads an I read the entire thing in almost one sitting
I got the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy for christmas based on your recommandation and I can't wait to start reading it 😍
I know it’s a little late but happy new year cari!! I love you and appreciate you so much and look forward to spending this year with you being silly together 💕🌸✨i hope you have a wonderful time and lots of fun ^^
thank you so much! happy new year to you toooo!
Haopy belated birthday and new years! You always have the best timing with your videos. I DNFed so many books in December, but I'm going to try to give a few a second chance at some point this year, so I'm right there with you. Much love!!! ❤
Oh man! Excited for you to read All of Our Demise! The second book is fantastic. Also glad you ended up liking The Unmaking of June Farrow. The audiobook was chef's kiss 🤌 I'm also petitioning for you to read Upon a Frosted Star by M.A. Kuzniar. It's a Swan Princess/Swan Lake with Great Gatsby vibes retelling and it's so freakin magical while also being heartbreaking. It was the last book I read before 2023 wrapped up and I was glad I did cause it made it to my top 10 books of the year 🦢
And a very happy belated birthday Cari 🥳🥳🥳
Cari I love your wrap ups so much they’re just so entertaining and I love putting them on while I’m cooking or cleaning up dinner ((:
I was just looking for a bookish video, thanks Carrie! 🫶🏻✨
The seven year slip was nearly my favorite book of 2023. For me it was so impactful because it opened my eyes to the after effects of a loved one choosing to leave too soon. The depression representation personally felt so realistic in an unrealistic book. The romance isn’t what I focused on. Everyone experiences books differently ❤️
Whenever cari post a video my heart jumps a little bit❤
Happy birthday! So excited for what you read next year!!
Ooooh my gosh I SO agree about A Dark and Hollow Star!!! I read the first and second (third wasn’t out yet at the time) and while it was fun and I loved the concept it could’ve been a THIRD of the length 😭
truuuuuly i felt like i was reading forever hahaha
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARI!!!
thank god someone else doesn't like the seven year slip lol! i completely agree with your comment about how quickly the two love interests were all over each other it felt super unrealistic and cheesy. we are both not reading something i guess lol
I didn’t like it either. The premise is SO COOL but the execution is so mediocre. Honestly, the whole romance could have happened without the whole time warp thing. What a waste of potential
i got so excited seeing virgin suicides on the list of books mentioned! it's my favorite book ever im so glad u liked it it's literally peak fiction
I love your videos, and also look forward to the new short-form content! Happy to support it, and hope you find something enjoyable about both long and short videos - because I will eat them all up
I am about half way with June Farrow right now and I LOOOOOVVVEEE it!! So, very encouraged to hear your thoughts on it too
Okay i didnt care too much for the begining of A dark and hollow star, but once arlo gets her die and all the characters meet up, it gets soo good!! plus second book is so so good. I was so excited when i saw it in the thumbnail cause no one has ever read it! The atmosphere is so mortal instruments to me and it made me happy.
P.s i finished the third book, and its not a trilogy 😭
i just wish it was at least 100 pages shorter and maybe i could have finished it but no and omg what?! unfinished series?! back away!!!
@@caricanreadThe fourth one comes out tail end of 2024-I recommend catching up closer to when it releases because the second one ends on one of the most DEVASTATING cliffhangers I’ve ever read.
I absolutely loved Alix E. Harrow's short story "The Witch's Guide to Escape: A Practical Compendium of Portal Fantasies" when I stumbled upon it last year. Highly recommend!! Her writing is so funny but heartfelt and that story is such a love letter to libraries and readers
Happy belated birthday Cari!! It's crazy because my birthday is also New Year's Eve!
Also I just wanted to say I took your recommendation to read Gideon the Ninth and I'm actually obsessed. Thank you 🩷
Cari, just read The Six Deaths of The Sainth because of you and love you so much for putting it in my radar! You're such a bless!!
So interesting hearing why you liked June Farrow (: I was so bored the first 200pgs wanted to DNF. I felt the build up was too slow but the twists in the end were fun. Like you said I just expected More & More romance. But I LOVED 7 year slip. So to each their own 😊
oh my gosh!! dark and hollow star!! such a good one
happy birthday cari! thanks for the video! 💕
Such a delight to see your videos, you just made my evening (and my tbr for January), love 🥰
Happy belated birthday miss cari. Appreciate your video/opinions as always. ❤❤
i've just added six more books to my tbr thank youuuu
Hi, glad you kinda liked Penance. I still really recommend Boy Parts. It's basically American Psycho for girls but it's nicely written and the MC is also insufferable but in a girlboss-ish way and it works for the book. I don't love the ending but I never like book endings most of the time, so I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
i remember getting to the end and turning the page in disbelief waiting for extra pages to appear. was like "did i get a dud copy? is it missing the last chapter?" SO MADDD. (but people should still read boy parts)
Happy Birthday Cari ❤❤❤❤❤
I read the book at the beginning of January after watching this video and I still think about it constantly! It's just perfect!
I was just re-watching your previous videos cause I missed them hahah love it
happy belated birthday 💜 excited for this wrap up
thank you and happy new year!
I didn’t get a notif for this but went on youtube just to see what was new/here! You also popped in my dream last night - we bumped into eo and i just said thank you for helping my mental health!
lol i love it!! and happy new year :'''')
@@caricanread awww thank you, happy new year!!! :’)))) i hope it is the most fulfilling for u yet
I have the exact same thoughts and feelings about The Seven Year Slip. I felt like you were narrating my experience. Definitely not alone!
You should read Mixed Signals! It’s the third book in the Lovelight Farms series. Especially if you like when the couple communicates. So so sweet!
Happy Birthday Cari 😊❤️ love your videos!
Interested to see your take on A House with Good Bones. I was so excited to read it with the hype and description and it fell extraordinarily flat for me.
I've come to the realization that T Kingfisher gets one really excellent idea for a world and then just runs with every iteration of that one idea for several books.
Any of one of her books that you pick up from that line would most likely be your favorite with the others being just diminishing returns.
For me A House with Good Bones felt almost like a lesser version of The Twisted Ones. But I often wonder if I had read the former first, I'd have felt differently.
I LOVED "seven years slip".
It did not bother me at all that they fell for each other the first day they met.
I kinda believed them ( of course it's absolutely unrealistic. But they literally travel through time there, come on.)
Overall for me it was an extremely cozy, addictive read with lovable characters where I could not stop myself from turning the next page.
Most probably gonna rereat it one day
I just read it yesterday and I could NOT put it down!!! I really loved it to! I didn't think it was that they fell in love the first day, but just had this immediate (and strong) attraction that yes, quickly became much more. I thought the 2 characters were so charming and I loved Iwan's respectfulness and ugh. Gonna be thinking about it for a while 🤩
I LOVED IT TOO! It's basically my fav book of year 2023. The storyline is soo good and i love the male character so much!
virgin suicides' was such a good movie cant wait to read the book made me feel all emotions sadness and anger esp since we never got their story ever but from the eyes of bystanders boys
I read both Catherine Walsh christmas romances after I saw your video, and they were so adorable and so fun!
I loved The Unmaking of June Farrow. It was one of my favorite books of 2023. I felt the same after finishing it. It was so perfect.
Awesome video ‼️ I love your videos and you have made read different genres of books 😅
thank you!!
i haven't read "the seven year slip", but the synopsis vaguely reminded me of the book "one last stop" by casey mcquiston which is a very sweet sapphic romance with sci fi and time travel elements. i'd recommend it as a palate cleanser if you haven't already :-)
sadly i didnt like one last stop either 😭😭😭
Hi Cari, Happy New Year 🥂🎆👏! I am currently reading Serpent & Dove and enjoying it! So nice to read something that isn't a struggle. The book before that was Iron Flame, which I finished but I felt like the plot was going NO WHERE!! The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was my DNF of the year, which I read for sheer fomo. Maybe I will pick it up again, just didn't grab me. Anyway, all the best 🫶
Happy birthday, and happy new years Cari! i LOVED the All of Us Villains duology, so damn much oml.
Really sad that 1 of my top books of the month of Dec is Wednesday Books. But, of the 21 i read that were actually new to me (i did a bunch of rereads!) these were my top of the month:
The Scarlet Alchemist by Kylie Lee Baker 4/5
We Are The Crisis by Cadwell Turnbull 4.5/5
Valdemar by Mercedes Lackey 5/5
Shards of Glass by Michelle Sagara 5/5
I love that all these wrap ups are captioned!
I only finished one novel in December. My ability of reading novels are either I read them in a very short amount of time or I take several months with a lot of breaks. The book was the second volume of “Yes, no, or maybe”. I am also slowly making my way through the 3rd asoiaf book. This year I’m planning on reading more novels instead of just manga. The books I need to finish in my library is Throne of Thorns, A crown for a fox, and The Terror. Throne of Thorns and The Terror have been in my library for over a year I need to get around to finishing them.
ugh i have covid super bad rn so this video is perfect for me rn. thank you for making such incredible videos for us to enjoy!
nooooo omg get well soon!!
Happpy New year Cariiiiii !!! 🥳❤ Now, let's start to see the video 🥰 Love unpopular opinions 😆
happy new year!!!
Question: In a fate of wrath and flame, does it have the trope of her bringing modern concepts/tech to this fantasy world? Absolutely love that trope so much!!!
"...who can throw his romantic partners around..." The pictures in my mind!!! 😂😂😂
Saw the seven year slip on the video and had to click to hear your opinions because I loved it so much ❤❤❤
Update I’m so sad you didn’t like it I loved the writing in I felt like it was so beautiful 😔😔
@@scarlethunter9361I loved it too! But I get how it isn’t for everyone
as soon as I saw The Seven Year Slip and 'unpopular opinons' I KNEW you were gonna break my heart, Cari 😪
Happy new year! Happy birthday! Your red butterfly earrings are pretty; they dangle very well. The synopsis of How To Be Eaten sounds like an SNL skit.... or an existing parody video that was on YT years ago where the Disney princesses had therapy sessions. Hmmm.
Hii, I’m coming here to talk about A Fate of Wrath and Flame! First of all im so glad you gave it a go and at least found the plot interesting! As far as continuing the series or not, i will say that the second book is kind of slower and it’s there so we can get to the next book. However, there’s still a lot of interesting new information and plot development, it’s not a monotonous book by any means. If you enjoy books where the protagonists go through a journey and have to encounter different challenges along the way, then you’ll probably like the book. I still think it’s very worth it to go through the second book because the third one blew my mind, but i understand that’s not for everyone!
Happy bday! Hope you had a good time ♡
It's funny that you mentioned Laini Taylor because I just discovered Strange The Dreamer, and I was really taken in and enjoyed it a lot! I will check out the book you just mentioned. Speaking of, in a previous video, you mentioned The Bear and The Nightingale and I'm enjoying it. I'm honestly surprised since it's so very Russian and not many people enjoy old school Russian style writing. Thanks!
Cari I just finished reading the six deaths of the saints…girl why would you recommend me that my heart just got torn to shreds and I’m supposed to casually keep going about my day 😭😭😭
Happy belated birthday and happy new year, Cari! My birthday is on Christmas (and I’m also from SoCal, hehe)-so I understand the anxiety of holiday birthdays! I’m always impressed by how much you read! Following you on TikTok/BookTok now! 🥰
I also read THE UNMAKING OF JUNE FARROW (in November, I think) and absolutely LOVED it! I read THE SIX DEATHS OF THE SAINT in January of last year (2023), but I don’t remember much of it. I did love STARLING HOUSE by that author, though!
Looking forward to more of these videos in 2024 from you! And your BookTok content! 🤗💜
Hi Cari! I was wondering if you’ve ever read “Cackle” by Rachel Harrison? I really loved the themes of female empowerment and friendship, even if the author didn’t quite stick the landing with the ending. Sorry if you’ve already read it, I combed through your videos and didn’t see it but I could be wrong. Anyway, love your videos! Can’t wait to watch this one✨
Happy belated birthday and happy New Year!
Now, I'm gladly diving into the video :D
Edit: thank you for the Catherine Walsh recs - they were really really good!
thank you, happy new year and yessss so funny!!
These are always so fun to watch.
If you need a series to torture yourself with (though I doubt you'll make it far) for juicy content try the Anita Blake Vampire Books. They start out okay and have a super fun premise...then the more you read them the more problems crop up.
Happy birthday!
