    Gary, I´m afraid yes: you need to remove muffler to adjust valves. The main advantaje witrh this exhaust system is your car remind with original clearence, No problem with driveways or speed-bumps.

      E. Monroy unless you add access panels ,on a race car as I did,,not trying to bother with stock vintage I have a 59 strictly a toy,for competitive fun.quick remove fenders and rear valance,for ease of everything and access panels to get to starter and clutch,and motor bolts, time in pit is laps....lost!

    Wow, that looks good! I can't believe how steady that motor is. My poor old beetle motor has some serious shakes, and it drives me mental every time I get it right then it goes crook again. Still love it though

    I absolutely LOVE that exhaust... was just lookin' at it the other day... pretty sure I'm gonna hit up the Kaddie Shack for a pair of Kadron singles for my otherwise-stock Ghia...

    Now engine has balance tube and performs better at idle speed.
    I need to adjust linkeaje in order that open exactly at same time both carbs.
    Engine is type 1.

    I don't know but at least 65 factory HP. I think a little bit more because "1600" factory is actually 1584cc and this "1600" is 1641cc

    Did you add a balance tube between the intakes (t 3/4pancake engine style)?; if not, you may try; it helps smoothing out the idle; you can bore and tap the castings, screw in some aluminium fittings and connect a simple tube between the castings and you're done; I did the same with my 34 ICT setup on my 1600 engine and it helped a lot.

    Nice job by keeping these little Bugs alive, I have a 68 and would like to buy a new engine for it, any idea how much does an engine like that runs for?

      can get a good quality re-build kit for under 2 grand. then just machine work if it needs any.

      Easy search will find you Kadrons. Duels are better than a single progressive. Easy to syc with vac. guage. Just dial it in...10min job😁

      +John Echterhoff I ran dual Kadrons on a stock (dual port) motor for years. I built 4 motors; up to a 1915 with dual IDAs. Don't waste any money on a bug motor unless you go for a longer stroke crank (78-82mm).

      Thanks. I've been following VWDarren on TH-cam for a couple years as well as others like EZGeeze and it got me pumped on doing my own 1915 or 20 something. I don't know now whether I will pursue this idea as my health is slowly sinking in the West. LOL!

      John Echterhoff The difference between a 1600-1776-1835-1915 is barely noticeable. Once you step into the "stroker" realm, it's like an entirely different species. Visualize a 9" wrench versus a 16" breaker bar. That is what a "stroker" does: TORQUE! They "dig out of the hole". The 2nd factor to launching a bug is the final drive ratio (ring and pinion). The stock 3.44 and 3.88 are just too tall for launching. go for a 4.+ series ratio. You might spit some spider gears out the side, if you are trying to hump a Notchback or heavy Type 3.
