Thanks for another great video just got back from a drive in the Volksrod, stretched its legs for the first time this year. 1914 with w120 cam, Spanish made 40 idf's with gene berg linkage still not needing to be touched. EZGZ has a great point on carburetor to engine size. I am very happy with my single 40IDF on a 1968cc.
    But I would say, if you're thrifty and willing to get it figured out.
    For my setup, I was able to use a new Amazon returned carburetor. Made the adjustment ezgz talked about in a previous video he has.
    I purchased the empi intake and all weber parts off the samba.
    I'm into it less than 250. But it did take some time to get it dialed in.

    Every EMPI part I’ve bought has never fit properly. Even the older “better” (or so I was told) stuff.
    I bought an EMPI exhaust at a swap meet years ago. When I got it home I noticed it looked a little.. cheap where the headers all met in behind the collector. I chopped the collector off and holy smokes, the pipes were all mangled at tips. They looked like they had been chewed to size.

    Dead right about carb sizes. many people go too big and their car becomes a pig to drive (I know from experience). Dells and Webers have removable venturis and it's the venturi size that matters; smaller carbs run smoother, absolutely agree with everything you say here EZ!

    Anyway I've studied your videos and I'm with you we are buying crap. I've recently binned my piece of crap EMPI linkage setup. The dam thing just would not play the game. So i got in touch with Alistair at Gene Berg and he fixed me up with a linkage set-up. Now this thing cost me close on $800 Aus. but it works. It's made from quilty parts. So people if you want quality it may cost more at first but take it from me it's worth it in the long run.

    If you go cheap, then be prepared to put in a little more effort to make it right. I bought some Harbor Freight tools that failed on me. Had a reciprocating saw that had the cast aluminum collar break, but had a 4' section of old rail because it was made of forged steel, then cut a piece of it and fabricate it into a collar that was the same shape (I had to Krazy glue the old collar to get the measurements). It was working fine after that. So if they want that EMPI to perform like a Weber, Dell, or Solex, put a little work into the carb, and it may be like a Web/Dell/Sol.

    Tuning my 44 webers tomorrow. Installed the Gene Berg linkage and looking forward getting them set. Carbs with linkage were 1179$ from CB. Worth it! The linkage started getting loose quickly though(Baja). The heims joints just don't hold up to exposure to the elements well. Bought the Berg linkage and it seems much sturdier. What do you lube your Baja and rail linkage with? Thanks! Burrito time!

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oil just collects dirt on off road cars. Maybe some penetrating oil and wiggle things and then wipe it off.
      You will love the GB linkage. I have 2 set ups and they work sweet and stay in adjustment. It looks like home made junk to the untrained eye but so tunable with the right length to work correctly. I thought bending the end peace's to fine tune was a little mickey mouse but it works. Some light oil and or dry powered graphite works go on all types of linkage. You can look for the kind the locksmith would use. A plastic bottle will last forever.

    I've used many pairs of the "clone" Webers, 40s, 44, & 48s. Yes they need to be "gone through" before fitting & they need to be matched in size to the spec of the engine. I've had excellent results from them all & for the money they are brilliant. The HPMIX are no where near as good & I won't use them. All of the Weber parts are interchangeable with the clones & if not for the weber name stamping, they are nearly identical. I've been building and tuning performance VW motors for over 40 years, I think Webers are expensive, we are buying a "name", but I always buy good quality linkage & manifolds/cleaners.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably too much gas pressure if it’s electric fuel pump. You need separate fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure gauge. Both the Broxol and the solex are legendary for quality. I ran a 30 P.I.C.-1 Solex on my single port and never had a problem super easy to adjust.
