Idk why I’m even watching this but as someone who just got accepted into USC I’d stress two things especially. The first is that even though USC claims to not track demonstrated interest, that is far from the truth and it could really help make your application. The second is that you really should get in touch with an admission rep or someone you know who works for the school etc. when I emailed my rep I found out that one of my common app essays was missing and if I had not contacted her I definitely wouldn’t have been able to fix the issue and get into USC. Good luck everyone applying next year!
12:56-13:02 when all the girls were chatting and getting kind of loud, that guy in the back, was so quiet and awkward and he was a WHOLE MOOD. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Thank you so so so so so much you don’t understand. I always doubted myself to apply to USC because I’m taking lower amounts of APs, have an average SAT, and a good GPA but not spectacular, but I was on the verge of stopping my essays (that I’m half way finished) because I thought it would be a waste of time to even apply when I knew the obvious answer was a rejection. After watching this, I will be finishing my essays and submitting them by Jan 15 for regular decision. This is so motivating ugh I wanna thank all of you!
Update: I got in!!! I was so shocked at first that I couldn’t believe it! I got admitted for spring 2020 however, but that’s just how usc does it. They admit freshmen as either fall or spring, so I will be starting school in January. For anyone out there who’s doubting themselves for applying, just try! You don’t need perfect academic stats whatsoever. The key is to be interesting. And I almost never applied.... miracles do happen :)
a d a s i s k o hey! my academic stats were very average. I got a 1390 on my SAT and only took a few APs. I think what helped me stand out was the fact that I’ve been a competitive figure skater ever since I was 4, and I even went homeschooled for it and then went back to public school etc. So basically, I had a lot of stories to share, and I truly think that was the key. Stats are one thing and very important, but being able to sound interesting and persuade the officers with your words is another thing. Good luck!!
You should make a video on the journey to be admitted to usc specifically as a cinematography major and how you were admitted based on what you had on your portfolio and more! This would be really helpful to many including myself who has a passion for film
I’m starting freshman year of high school soon and my dream school is usc so I wanna start on the early track to getting there and I think this video has helped me already a bit so thank you!
Blue bird TAKE AP CLASSES!!!! Im a senior right now and my biggest regret is that I didn’t take more AP’s sooner. AP teachers are usually much nicer, more lenient, and much less strict. The classes in my opinion are much easier cause they teach you more efficiently. Also, definitely think about what you’re gonna write about for your essays before hand.
@@Doofus745 Trust me when I say, “you got this” It’s not as hard as you’d think. I myself was like, “omg I can’t take ap classes because I’m not smart enough” but my sophomore year I got the courage to take one AP class and found out it wasn’t as bad as I thought. All I had to do was keep up with the work and try my best. Now I’m a junior and I am taking three AP classes which I would’ve never thought I could.

I'm class of 1992. The young lady who was commenting on extracurricular engagement knows what she is talking about. You don't have to have a 4.0 for SC. You just have to convince the school that you will bring POSITIVE LEADERSHIP QUALITIES to the school. In other words, what can you bring to make the school a better place? What can you contribute to SC?
I just recently got rejected from USC, and I’m heartbroken. I applied to Public Relations/Communications. I’m from NY. I have a very high unweighted/weighted GPA. I play sports and am in a lot of extracurriculars with a lot variety (VP of community service club, yearbook head editor, president of writing fellows program, 3 yr Varsity field hockey player, Nordstrom fashion ambassador, and so much more). My standardized test scores were average-above average for USC. I take all AP and IB classes. i’m thinking maybe my essays and the fact that i didn’t take my language (latin) senior year was what knocked me down, but I’m very sad about it.
Olivia Vizza do you atleast have 2 foreign language credits? Some schools prioritize instate students over out of state, so that can definitely be a reason.

Does anyone have any tips for homeschoolers wanting to go to USC? I've been homeschooled my whole life, I just started my freshman year of high school and I wanna do everything I can in these next four years to maximize my chances of getting in. I know I want to do dual enrollment at my state's community college and I'm thinking about trying to get a summer internship at my local library, what else should I be doing?
Thank you so much I was debating applying because I was really saw that my score for SAT is a bit lower than the 25th percentile and I'm retaking it November but I worry it still won't reach the like 50th percentile and this made me feel so much better about applying :)
I was waiting to hear from the only guy in the back to share his stats, I am from Philly as well, would love to know how he got in and which high school in Philly he went to and GPA, SAT, ACT.....
Hey, super rad video! I too am applying to USC for Narrative Studies at Dornsife and was wondering about the Santa Monica City College Trojan Transfer Program. How do I get housing on USC's campus when I am doing my school work at Santa Monica CC? Is the housing really competitive for TTP students? Thank you again for the awesome tips, they are really really appreciated.
Hey there! So if you got TTP, but wanted to live at usc and commute to SMC, the housing isn't through USC. Gateway, where I was living first semester is not USC Housing, but only usc students live there, if that makes sense. There are a few "off campus" apartments like that such as West, Lorenzo, Gateway, etc. It isn't that competitive to get a spot at one of these places either.
Ik I’m young but this actually made me think I do have chances getting in and this is my dream school and this made me hope that I will get in because my grades aren’t the best
if ur grades aren’t the best you’ll have a really low chance of getting in, the people who get in with not that good of stats get lucky most admissions have good stats
I am a junior in North Dakota with a 3.8 gpa and most likely won’t get the best act score. Is there anything els I can do to increase my chances of getting accepted in 1.5 years?
I want to apply here for graduate school. Do you know if there’s different things that apply for a graduate student? I’m also going for film! But I’m also going for marketing! Thanks so much love the vid!
What if your school doesn’t offer AP classes? Or super specific classes to the major I want(film production)? I’m taking photography and communication media bc those are the closest. I live in a kinda small city and doesn’t have a crap ton of extra curriculars. Is there still a possibility I could get into USC? I have very good grades and do a few extra curriculars and hobbies and a published short story.
I want to go to USC for an computer science major and an Bachelor's in games desing from Bristol, UK I know I can go to Staffordshire (Best one in the UK) but in USC there's more opptunity then the UK in the gaming industry. Also I wanted to live in LA since I was 14 and saw USC is the best Uni for Games design in North America. I'm currently recruiting doing my GCSE Maths and English and hoping to get an grade 7 = A in both if not A in Maths and B in English. I got an Distincsion last year from my BTEC L1 I.T course what = an A GCSE grade so that's an GPA 4.0 and hoping to get it again in my BTEC L2 Media and for my L3 Games design course. After College I'm planning to stay another 2 years at my current college to do A-Levels in Computer science, Maths and Physics (What grades do USC want for A-Levels?) So yeah hoping to apply in 5 years. I do have an interest in history would that look good on my application? I think I'm the only family member who wants to go to study in a country where it has better opptunitys and my older family member has dropped out or have failed Uni.
I want go to USC for games designing after my graduation of the current Uni, I am reading some textbooks about game design written by professors from USC recently. Hope I can get accepted in 5 years...
Oops, kind of a year late and don't know if you're still answering questions. Do you know much about financial aid/scholarships? I'm from Chicago and a middle-class family, but I have 3 siblings (2 technically aren't in our household but still get some assistance from my parents, and my one brother is in college still) and money is kind of a concern. Is there any way to like increase the chances of scholarship? I want to be as genuine as possible and not "do things because I think they'll look good," but I also want to know if you've heard of any ways that people "stood out" or things they did that maybe they think is what got them their scholarship. Any advice would help. Thanks!
Hi there! First of all, this video was so insightful. I'm a super passionate filmmaker and hope to be admitted to usc sca. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to send the sca professors a short cinematography reel or a short film (Which I am currently working on) to introduce myself. And another question I had was how USC SCA makes itself the best film school in the world? Is it the professors, the environment, etc. Thank you!
I'm a junior right now and I do extracurriculars such as volunteering, badminton, choir(sophomore year and doing it again next year), and I did two internships. However, I don't have a major leadership experience except for being an art officer for a year and a treasurer for a club for another. How can I counter that/How does it affect my application?
Aaron Chien you’re doing fine! If you’re doing internships and being involved, you’re doing what you’re supposed to. Being an officer at least once will set you apart
Jasmine Barnes I feel like it’s getting more competitive with more people doing outstanding stuff like science fairs performing at Carnegie hall and all that while I compare myself to that and feel like I have nothing
Aaron Chien Most students don’t do things like that. Obviously, those people are awesome, but not everyone is doing things like that. If you’re at least active in your school and community, you’ll stand out. I’m a senior, I applied to 4 schools and I got into all 4. I’m on the executive board for 1 outside organization (that I interned for before and they liked me so much that I got on the executive board), but I have over 400 volunteer hours and I’m apart of 3 (in school clubs) and a student-county-government. My school doesn’t have a lot of APs ( no one signs up for them, so they get cancelled), but I’ve taken 8 dual enrollment classes. It’s really about being as proactive as you can!
Hi! Thank you so much for making this video! I just had a question, does gpa matter a lot when applying to USC film production or do the essays and short film matter the most? I am hoping to be able to get accepted to USC but i am a bit worried as grades and SAT might be a big factor.
Hey Justin! I had a 4.1 (3.9 unweighted) and a 26 ACT. Since USC is a rigorous school I definitely think having competitive GPA/Test scores is important, but especially for any of the Fine Arts majors I think talent and creativity are more important. They just want to make sure you can keep up with the difficult classes at SC. But in my opinion I would make sure your essays and portfolio are the strongest part of your application.
Hi Ashlyn, I have a question, because I really really wanna go to the USC, but I'm international student (Europe) So do you think this is a little problem or no? I mean do you know any international students there?
you can introduce yourself, where you’re from, what you intend on majoring in, etc., and asking questions about the academic programs they are apart of, about the specific school, their research at the university, and other things along those lines. Definitely keep it short though :) Introduce yourself (where you're from, your intended major, etc) and maybe ask questions about the academic programs that specific school has to offer, what research that professor is apart of, any questions about the school itself, etc. Keep it short and save any lengthy questions for a phone call/in person interview if possible. This is just a way for the professors to become more familiar with your name and to see your interest in the school!
Do you think USC likes dual enrollment? I hated high school so I started an early college program and I'll graduate with an Associate of Arts and my high school diploma. So, since I wasn't in regular high school, I haven't taken AP/IB, but I've been in full-time college since sophomore year. With 4.0 GPA, 1400 SAT, and good essays and extracurriculars, is there a chance I could get in?
sullen girl did you take the classes at the community college? Or at the high school with dual enrollment? Because I did dual enrollment all throughout high school (my high school classes counted for both, I didn’t go to a college to take them) and usc did not accept any of those as college credit. If u take the classes at the college, then they might accept those, but that’s still case by case
@@AshlynBradshaw Thank you so much for your reply! I went to college campus to take them. They're transferrable to the state schools in my state, so I'm hoping lots of the General Education credits (like calculus, writing, etc) will transfer to usc if I get in!
You mentioned that USC tracks demonstrated interest, they usc representative that came to our school let me know that they do not track demonstrative interest. Just wanted to clarify?
Mr.bucketsatwork honestly not sure, every school is different so we could have very easily gotten it mixed up, if so our mistake. But I do know I made sure to send a lot of emails, I visited a few times and made appointments with admissions staff, and had a phone interview with an SCA professor to at least have them familiar with my name, regardless if they tracked or not. Another thing could be that they changed it this year and now that aren’t. But again I don’t have a solid answer for you but I’d assume the admissions staff you talked to is more correct than us!
Did you get a scholarship to your college prep high school if you were able to qualify for questbridge? Bc my parents only make 85,000 and I didn’t qualify ):
Yes I was on full financial aid in high school. We were much higher than the average income for questbridge applicants but applied anyways and thats when I became a Questbridge Prep Scholar. I didn't make it to be a finalist, I'm assuming most likely because our income was higher than their average of I think 35,000? But even being a Prep Scholar looked great on resumes.
e medina you can introduce yourself, where you’re from, what you intend on majoring in, etc., and asking questions about the academic programs they are apart of, about the specific school, their research at the university, and other things along those lines. Definitely keep it short though :)

I've been homeschooled my whole life, I just started my freshman year of high school and I wanna do everything I can in these next four years to maximize my chances of getting in. I know I want to do dual enrollment at my state's community college and I'm thinking about trying to get a summer internship at my local library, what else should I be doing?
this was helpful thank you so much!! you are really smart Ashlyn. I wonder how things are going now for you at USC?
Thank you so much I was debating applying because I was really saw that my score for SAT is a bit lower than the 25th percentile and I'm retaking it November but I worry it still won't reach the like 50th percentile and this made me feel so much better about applying :)
I was waiting to hear from the only guy in the back to share his stats, I am from Philly as well, would love to know how he got in and which high school in Philly he went to and GPA, SAT, ACT.....
OMG same I'm from philly too.
Im a freshman going into sophomore year I don’t know what I want to be and I’m having a mental breakdown because I want to know now but I don’t
Do things like making meals for the poor count without doing with it an organization? for the extras?
I am a junior in North Dakota with a 3.8 gpa and most likely won’t get the best act score. Is there anything els I can do to increase my chances of getting accepted in 1.5 years?
I want to apply here for graduate school. Do you know if there’s different things that apply for a graduate student? I’m also going for film! But I’m also going for marketing! Thanks so much love the vid!
Is there hope to get into film making if I finished with a 3.1 gpa in freshman year 😂😭
Hey Ashlyn, I just found your channel, and I'll really love if you can review my questbridge CPS application.
Do transfer students who have a BA get financial aid? USC is a dream school for me and it is really expensive.
I love your videos !💗
thank you!!
me watching this video 14 hours before the app is due
What if your school doesn’t offer AP classes? Or super specific classes to the major I want(film production)? I’m taking photography and communication media bc those are the closest. I live in a kinda small city and doesn’t have a crap ton of extra curriculars. Is there still a possibility I could get into USC? I have very good grades and do a few extra curriculars and hobbies and a published short story.
I really want to go to the USC cinematic school... any tips?
After College I'm planning to stay another 2 years at my current college to do A-Levels in Computer science, Maths and Physics (What grades do USC want for A-Levels?)
So yeah hoping to apply in 5 years.
Any recommendations for transfer students from community colleges
Thanks!
Love you💓💓💓
omg i love this video so much!
Hi Ashlyn,
I have a question, because I really really wanna go to the USC, but I'm international student (Europe) So do you think this is a little problem or no? I mean do you know any international students there?
17% of USC's students are international students! I know a ton of people from all around the world who I have met here
Ashlyn Bradshaw Omg I didn’t know that
This is amazing!
Please do more videos like that about USC It’s really interesting and useful
What would you email a professor about as a prospective student who is going to be applying next year.
you can introduce yourself, where you’re from, what you intend on majoring in, etc., and asking questions about the academic programs they are apart of, about the specific school, their research at the university, and other things along those lines. Definitely keep it short though :)
Introduce yourself (where you're from, your intended major, etc) and maybe ask questions about the academic programs that specific school has to offer, what research that professor is apart of, any questions about the school itself, etc. Keep it short and save any lengthy questions for a phone call/in person interview if possible. This is just a way for the professors to become more familiar with your name and to see your interest in the school!
damn you guys are so beautiful
They're transferrable to the state schools in my state, so I'm hoping lots of the General Education credits (like calculus, writing, etc) will transfer to usc if I get in!
sullen girl they typically will! You’d definitely get some credit for that. Good luck!
Love💓💓💓💓
This was sooooo helpful omg thank you.
what type of questions can you ask or what can you ask on emails to proffesors?
e medina you can introduce yourself, where you’re from, what you intend on majoring in, etc., and asking questions about the academic programs they are apart of, about the specific school, their research at the university, and other things along those lines. Definitely keep it short though :)
