gosh this is the most helpful college advice video i've watched, you seem so down to earth, sweet, genuine and passionate. thank you so much for sharing these tips with us and congrats & good luck on your harvard journey! - a highschool sophomore :>
this message made my day! it means so much to me as i want to connect with more people around the world and share my experiences! thank you for joining my journey and i wish the best of luck to you in high school!
Atleast you did it in december, thats probably one of the best times to do it- All I know from watching a ton of videos like these is to NEVER take the SAT in the BEGINNING of the school year-
@@sharonxcheng I have already started the common app application process. I have an IELTS score of 7.0. just hoping best for the SAT. My result will come out on 20 december. And the deadline of most universities is on 1st january including Harvard😭😭😭
I believe your hook - low income, first gen played a significant role. If you didn’t have that, you would need a very high SAT, GPA and national awards for any shot. Great video by the way!
God loves you! You can repent and believe that Jesus paid the price for our sins! Because He can give you so much love, joy and peace! God bless you You are worthy in His eyes 💗
Hey!! That’s such an insightful video! If you don’t mind, could you please share some tips you used while writing your supplemental essays? Or perhaps reveal some of yours that you think stood out most to AOs? Keep up the great work!
Sharon, thank you so much for making this video! I am currently a sophomore in high school and I loved learning about what makes you who you are and how you described that in the college application. lol I love what you said about it squishing you from 3d into 2d since you have to tell essentially your life story. Despite this, I do think that you showed a lot of your personality and is what made you stand out. Your love for singing, the leadership you took in many areas, in a nonprofit or at a conference. I do have a question though, how was the Yale Young Global Scholars for you and why did you decide to participate in it? What pushed you to apply, and what other summer programs did you apply to?
Congratulations on your academics and extracurriculars! You are a great singer! You did a great job with your academics and extracurriculars. Including that you were singing. Let me share a little introduction to myself. My name is Andres. I have completed with my A.A degree in General Studies at Valencia College. I have been to 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 4 high schools, and 3 community colleges. For right now, I am working on my B.A program in Communication and Journalism at Fayetteville State University. My minor used to be Creative Writing, but for right now is Theatre. Just finished with my third semester at Fayetteville State University. Next semester, I will be taking two courses in online for the case that I am going to be moving again earlier. I just published my first book for about a year. My book title is called “My Life Journey with Autism as a Military Child”. It is already in Amazon. For right now, I am working on my second book. My book title will be called “As a Military Child with Autism while Adjusted to New Places”. It might be the same content as my first book, but it might have different chapters. It will be part 2 most likely. I was in the Dean’s List four times in a row at Valencia College. I graduated from Valencia College with a 3.21 out of 4.0 scale. It took me 6 years to complete with my A.A degree because I was always a part time college student. I am still a part time college student at Fayetteville State University. I will transfer my B.A credits to University of Central Florida for my degree in Journalism while minoring in Theatre. It will reapply back to University of Central Florida sometime in May or June. After I complete with my fourth semester at Fayetteville State University, I will be reapply back to University of Central Florida around those times. If Journalism program at University of Central Florida does not work out, I will be studying Journalism at Colorado State University in online while completing my Theatre Studies degree at University of Central Florida. I have to wait an extra year to complete with my two degrees. Will see how it goes. I am going to school for becoming a journalist and an actor at the same time. Once I complete with my B.A degree, I will have someone to review my second book. Lastly, I will have it published in Amazon sometime in 2027 or 2028. I am planning to work on my third book as well! However, I cannot tell you the name of the title because it is a surprise. I will tell you about it after it publishing in Amazon. Again, you did a great job with your studies and extracurriculars in high school. I am very proud of you. Good luck with Harvard University. You should subscribe to my channel, so you can watch my videos. I also have a TH-cam channel. I have been having my own content for 2 years now. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you with your family. God bless you and your family. 🙏❤️
@@sharonxcheng Absolutely amazing! You have just saved 50K or even 100K (I guess many of your high school friends do spend that) because the quality of your ECs is second to none. They were not just well planed but well executed, requiring constant self-motivation and for most people, supervision.
love ur explanation on the essay, thank you for ur wonderful insight. one question, after being at harvard for a while, do you think you were able to find like a commona trait/activity... in their application?
hi! How did you come to afford Harvard as a first-generation low-income student?? Im also firstgen and lowinc and I'm worried about the cost of these schools even with scholarships/aid...
when did she say she was low income? If she is going to private high school, I would assume she is rich enough. It's true, i know for sure princeton and harvard would give you 100% scholarship if your parents have below certain income.
Thank you so muchh this was really helpful. If you don’t mind my question, is it true that i have to sumbit my application to the universities at least to weeks before the deadline or else they won’t consider my SAT score? My friend told me that for universities to consider my mark i have to send it to them through college board and make sure it reaches them before the deadline and it takes college board 10-14 days to process the results.
hi there! as long as you submit your application before the deadline you’ll be fine but i would recommend submitting a couple of days before to prevent web traffic or issues that might come up. good luck!
Hello. You seem like an amazingly well-rounded student no wonder you got into Harvard and 5+ Ivies!!! Do you mind sharing some tips with me for my extracurriculars? I got a 146.5 AMC 12 and top 20% in AIME (didn't qual for USAMO) but my other extracurriculars are lacklustre at best (run a few clubs, tutor kids math at school, etc). I'm afraid I'll just get rejected on the spot because I don't have like an IMO win or like a national competition win or something like that. Got any tips for me? Once again tho, great job and hope you have a blast at Harvard! :)
Could u pls tell the process of writing essay i mean like how to write what where what's the topic to write and about letter of recommendation how to get it what to write in this letter please (。ŏ﹏ŏ)
Congrats on Harvard. But I still don't understand what differentiates your qualifications from million other asian american male students with 4.0, tons of APs, perfect SAT, leadership ECs, competition winners, ...etc. e.g. Check Stanley Zhong's story.
@@luccaarantes1958 Can you be more specific? Almost every asian male hires professional college coach to edit essay. What specific story to convey in essay you feel is the difference? e.g. discover cancer cure, came from poor family and build a billion dollar company by age 15, ...etc. ? Thanks.
Hi! Thank you so much for posting this.. I hope you don’t mind me asking but as another first-gen college student, I’ve been told solely because of my “lower“ standardized testing score it’ll keep me from such universities. I’m looking at a 29 ACT right now (about to take my last one in 2 weeks), but the other aspects of my application are strong and unique imo. Should I be worried if I can’t get my standardized testing score up to a 33+ ? I don’t have anyone else I can really ask, and as my mom has a very traditional and somewhat stereotyped view of college she thinks this weakness will get me automatically rejected. Is this a genuine worry for me? Thanks to anyone who can respond with any advice or input :( it’ll be very much appreciated.
Focus on the other areas you’re strong in and you’ll be fine! Your ACT score is definitely not a dealbreaker, especially since you’re going for it again! If you standout in other aspects you’ll definitely have a shot. Don’t give up!

i did AMC too !! you should defintley put it in as ECS because 146.5 is hard to get anyway and qualifying for AIME is amazing.

So did you only have A-'s in high school or did you get a b+?
