Gosh I'm also aiming for astrophysics and a music person ! It's so good to see your share and it helped me a lot on my coming year application on caltech , so warm of you !
Okay I see you representing Caltech !... Getting into college is definitely stressful but you passed it girl ! You can breathe now. Congrats again on caltech and monetization !
🤣 Better version than MIT. I love that, represent!
You are super talented. Weight lifting, music, art, social media manager for Mochi.
OMG is Mochi going with you to college or staying home?
Congrats on 1k!🥳
Thank you and yes gotta represent! I don’t think mochi can come with me to college :(
girl you are a star!! getting into college was so stressful for me lmao congrats on Caltech!!
i think caltech's small size is very interesting, unlike other prestigious school that have 10-15k students. i look forward on reading more about caltech!
Omg girl congrats on 1k subs, congrats on getting monetized, again congrats on Caltech!!
Extraordinary planning and effort in your college preparation!!! 😁👏👏 Awesome job at keeping everything so organized and focused to meet your goals!
I am truly proud of you Lucy!!! 👏👏👏
Ive never seen anyone else try to get into school through lifting too. I cant go to ipf worlds, but I will be attending nats in march. Crazy the coincidence to finding your channel.
Yep I think it’s because most people find powerlifting later, although kids are starting earlier nowadays. I’ll be at teen nats in March!
@@LucyCao that’s cool, if I see you, I’ll say what’s up. I compete on the 23rd. As 90 teen2, crazy to see your progress. Both In and out of school. Lowkey inspiring. Let’s kill it at nats
@@KronicNitron Thank you! I compete on the 23rd too, 60 teen 3 so session 1. wishing you the best on your meet prep!
Congrats! A true talent in music performance and lifting : ) Wish you a good day @ Caltech after the gap year !
Thank you so much for sharing this girl! Will help so so many people reach there dream college!😍 I LOVE how clearly you explained everything & added in all the information! You have done absolutely AMAZING! You are so so talented & should be so proud of yourself!
Congrats on 1K too beautiful! Absolutely smashing it!😍😍😍
DAMN. You have so much achievements in your activities section🤯
I too want to apply to Caltech for astrophysics but now I'm just very sad with the thought that I can't get into Caltech with just playing guitar, piano and songwriting 😭
Thank you! I would encourage you to still apply if you really have passion for astrophysics and can write about that in your essays
Congrats on getting monetized and 1k babe!! You’re killing it🔥
Hearing your story getting into your dream college is amazing! Congratulations, love! I am so proud of you💜💜💜
My dream school has been cal tech since elementary school and listening to this i feel screwed lol your like doing the top tier atm
thank you, but you got this! most importantly, demonstrate your interest in stem, but still be yourself. you don't have to take the hardest stem classes and have internships to get in!
This made me feel extremely under qualified but congratulations on caltech!
Lol don’t be! All different types of applications get accepted, and rejected.
Though this video is fairly old now, I would be thrilled to get into Caltech (as nearly every aspiring STEM major would). I understand my chances are low as I can only manage a 4.2 weighted GPA with my classes for senior year, and I'm late into my junior year with practically no STEM extracurriculars to speak of, and I have no practical idea of how I could even start. Is it in actuality, highly unlikely for me to be able to get into Caltech or any of the highly reputable STEM colleges in my current state of high school? Any response would be very much appreciated.
I would recommend finding something stem related over the summer. at least for caltech, they are more looking for that you are interested in stem (through your actions, like extracurriculars, job, internship, hobbies, etc) rather than actually having the experience. Especially since a few of the essays/ short answers ask about stem experiences, you want to have stuff to talk about there to show your passion. So if you can find something over the summer, that would be great. But for those, even something like, watching your dad do engineering stuff when you were younger, just a random example, could be used as that short answer. you only need one or two recent example, so that's why I recommend you do something over the summer. but you could write about experiences in your science classes, like I wrote about a rollercoaster project from my physics class. For these schools, its always how you write and explain the situation. Like if student A can demonstrate their passion in an essay with a physics class experiment, and Student B has won a lot of STEM awards but shows no passion for STEM, they would rather pick student A, given that they have decent grades.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
@@LucyCao Thank you, I have insane respect for people who can accomplish what you have, I'll look into any potential STEM opportunities (preferably engineering or math) that I can find.
Oh god I’m going to try to transfer from city college to CalTech. I really have a passion for physics and astrophysics. But lord are the odds really against me right now
hey thank you so much for the video, it is really helpful! I was wondering how many APs are you allowed to put on your application again?
Fosure! You can list 15 on the common app, and that includes the ones you will take senior year
So many activities to bulk up app needed... i hope you find time in next few years to focus on what you enjoy the most. Take any chances to continue to travel during college and take varied internships for sampling🙂
Thank you for the advice, but I didn’t do anything I didn’t enjoy. I am 100% always for following my passions, and that’s what I did (like quitting cyso after two years and focusing on on powerlifting). I love doing everything I did on my application. I just like doing a lot of things, and nothing on my application I did for the application; I would do the same if I wasn’t applying to college
I have a question. It appears that you spent like 30 hours per week on activities, volunteering, and sports. How did you manage them? You spent about 5-6 hours a day on those activities. Or you heavily work on those activities during weekends? When did you have time to study?
yes, a lot of the activities are for the weekends, like worship team and cyso, and some of the activities are during school hours like peer tutoring and some of art. (Also, I quit cyso after my sophomore year, which opened up A LOT more time, and not all of the activities I did all four years). I don't study a lot outside of school; usually doing the homework is enough for me. and in the end its all about time management and not wasting time (playing games, scrolling through social media, etc.) because those can add up fast. And also, I enjoyed the activities, which made them not seem like a "chore" or items on a to do list (activities should be like that anyway). hope this answered your question, but let me know if you want a more detailed rundown or anything else!
Bruh how would people look at your application then put you in the rejection pile
Hi
I’m an international student wanting to pursue astrophysics at caltech . Any advice on extracurriculars ? How can international students keep up with Caltechs expectations?
Just do what you like to do! While you want to demonstrate you are interested in STEM, you can do that through your classes, job, or extracurriculars. I didn't have any physics extracurriculars, and the only STEM one I had was Math team. Also, I am currently taking a gap year, so I can't really answer the second question, but I know everyone is really helpful in working together, so keep asking for help, and you'll be good. Good luck!
Do you think I have a chance? Im on my freshman year of highschool, I didnt care about my grades this year because I was stupid, I have a 3.0 gpa. do you think if I get everything up till my senior year I might have a chance? Im looking to be a software engineer I had computer science this year, next year Im getting AP computer science, and AP computer principles and I want to join a good university
I think so. Freshman year stuff doesnt matter that much. It’s mainly focused on junior year.
Hi question I’m not in Highschool but do homeschooling n taking a ged to graduate this year than community college im majoring mainly astronomy but can I still get into caltech with a ged ? N if I take community college for a few years than go to caltech?
I really really want to go to Caltech but I don't think I can cz I have literally 0 extracurricular activities with me while being at the end of my senior year and I'm an international student so it's impossible really
getting to caltech how? its easy that everyone knows it. all A's and 800 on all math I II, 5 on all AP cal ab bc. any math below 770 = rejected.
Is Olympiad necessary for Caltech , mit please reply
Nothing is required. When I applied, MIT has a spot for amc 12 and aime scores, but it’s optional. Caltech doesn’t have that spot, but you can write it in your accomplishments/ activities
I’m also going to Caltech and I’m also scared. LETS DIE BUT DIE TOGETHER!! Lol
Im just curious
if theres some adult student in caltech
like around 23 - 28 age?

yooo no way I competed at IPF and IPL worlds!!!
My Father went to Caltech in the 40ies. He said he went from being a Big Fish in a little pound (high-school)to a little fish in a Big Pound at Caltech. He accepted JESUS right before he passed away 🙏 😊 Praise GOD!
Like 21 new frinds here Good sharing dear stay conected
You’re a such beautiful and sweet girl. You have a lot of talents and very optimistic.💕💕💕👍👍👍
You are truly amazing, but I don't think you really spent 57.5 hr/wk or 8.2 hr/day 7 day a week just on your extracurricular activities.
Well I didn’t lie when I wrote that lol. I do peer tutoring and most of art during school hours. I do a lot of those all in one day, like cyso Sunday afternoon/night, most of math team on Tuesdays, etc. And then I do the other stuff on other days of the week. Also, (it’s on the screenshot) I didn’t do all the activities for all 4 years, like I didn’t do peer tutoring freshman sophomore year and quit cyso after that to focus on powerlifting, which opened up a lot of time. I also don’t do math team, tutoring, etc. during the summer. Lastly, I literally don’t go out and do random high schooler stuff because I just don’t like those things (and also my best friends are 2 years older so in college). Lifting, making music, art, and those are my leisure activities, and managing my bird’s ig account and editing videos is what I do in my free time. so average 5hours during the weekdays plus the 2 hours in school=7, and like average 6 ish hours on the weekends, which is pretty accurate if u take out the activities I stopped doing
@@LucyCao Your activity list is impressive anyway. I noticed that many asian kids are overachievers. I wonder why. Do you have tiger parents? My daughter is a straight A high school student and she does dancing, sports and debates (all at a local level, not winning anything significant) and with all that it is next to impossible to add pretty much anything to her schedule during the school year. I can't wrap my head how you guys manage to get done this much!
@@irmetov my parents didn’t force me to do any of that; it was all what I wanted to do, and I am very fortunate to have parents that always support me. It’s all about being efficient with my time and multitasking, like getting as much homework done in school. (Plus I always get 7+ hours of sleep everyday).
How I did not get into Caltech: My dog ate my application.
Wait your a powerlifter too nice.
blud said better version of MIT 💀
NO . YOu
