I NEEDED this! my husband always gets his hats dirty and tells me to throw it in the dishwasher and then it gets ruined and he "has" to buy a new one! Lol. Thanks for the tips! Love ya hun!
It’s people like you that make this world a better place. I’m glad I found your video. I followed it step by step. My hat had some bad sweat stains but I didn’t pre-treat with a stain remover. My hat is air-drying now. We’ll see how it turns out! Thank you again for the great video!
hey just wanted to check in. How did the hat turn out? I'm in the process of washing mine.. but it's a pretty expensive hat and i don't want it ruined lol.
Thank you for this video! I work in Louisiana and wear my hat all the time so it has a lot of sweat stains on it and some dirt and oil too and this worked
Tried this on my favorite hat. I wear it every time I go to culinary class, so the chef has a heavy emphasis on safety and sanitation. Gotta say this video worked out. My hat’s now free of stains for the moment. Thx
I go the simple route, half cup of lukewarm water, couple drops dawn dish soap and the soft yellow side of a dish scrub (not the rough green side). Scrub lightly in circular motion. I make sure not to soak the hat with water, just enough to damp it a bit and get the stains out. Air dry over night, never under the sun and thats that. 👌🏼
Just did that and it fucking sucks. You clearly don't have any white hats cause mine has a white patch and when I tried scrubbing lightly in a circular motion on the sweat it just spread dark all around. Now my patch has a huge dark portion. 3/10 wouldn't recomment
Thanks for the video Andrea. I wear a hat to work 12+ hours and I usually just throw them in the washing machine; however, we all know how well that works out. I'm going to try your method today.
Idk if this has been said but I’m a Walmart temporary remodel employee, this is very helpful, I am waiting for my hat and vest to dry, I believe this is the best way to do it tho, starting my weekend washing my work uniform 😂😂 but you have been realy helpful I just got it done and it seems like it’s helped at least 90% of what I need so thank you so much❤️ the cleaning toothbrush seemed to be the best so far!! I
Thanks for this! I am definately going to be using this method. I did notice that sometimes the hat tag will tell you if it should be washed with warm or cold water. My White hat says "hand wash cold" so just be aware of that.
IKR!! Mine smells like melted nachos! Like bigfoot toe crust man!! Like like letting a sea snail ROT on the shore then asking the wife to gimme some more!! Na mean MANNN???!!! Yeeehaw!
How effective is this method? I tried just soaking it all free clear but that didn’t get the stains out. Might need to invest in oxiclean and try again
In the past I used large peach cans that fit the hat near perfect for drying. Lately I use the large plastic Folgers coffee cans as a drying rack/form.
You can also soak it in soap water for like an hour and then brush the stains. I would also recommend drying it in the sun instead of your home because next time you sweat in it it's gonna smell.
My mom used to use a margarine container or small coffee can to help cap keep its shape while drying, depends on shape of cap /person's head. Just an 'old school' suggestion.
I work outside and sweat a lot and this just saved my hat and I’m definitely gonna use this in the future!! Thank you so much!! Btw you have the same name as my wife!
thanks for this! just saved $30 cleaning my hat instead of buying a new one. now i dont have to look so dirty with sweat stains during baseball practice
Andrea Jean so I finally tried your ball cap cleaning hack and so far so good. They are drying and really look so much better. I have tried a bunch of your cleaning hacks like the shave cream and the WD-40 for hard water stains. I am a fan for life, thanks
So you don’t recommend to wash the hat in the washing machine? Also, what do you do with a white hat? How do you clean them and what’s the best way to dry them up so that they can keep their shape? And is there anything you can do if you already washed the carpet in a washing machine and they got wrinkle is there anything you can do to bring it back?
I've always worn company hats at work to keep my long hair restrained. Where I'm at now, I see a lot of customers, and there is a higher need to maintain a professional appearance. I've never had to wash a hat before, but I will give this a try.
So, do you HAVE to apply Shout or Oxy Clean before washing in Dawn soap and warm water? Also, what if I don't have a brush like the green one you used in this video?
Thanks. My pretty expensive Chicago Black Hawks hat has faded in the mid section (cause of fade, probably sweat and sun). Do you have any recommendations for restoration? Jaye from Chicago
Wow thanks!! I was worried submerging my hat In water would ruin the brim, but I guess not!! Thanks!! Now I'll be able to really wash my favorite hat which I kinda wear to the gym too much😉🤣🤣
Hi, Can i use this method, is there any problem with your hat after few weeks or months, please reply❤, Because my one hat ruined so idon't wanna risk my other hats. If you see this comment please reply🙏. Thank you😊
I bought this protective cage thing that holds 1 hat to be throw in the dishwasher (I use my washing machine) and it worked okay but it got crazy one day and damaged the cage as well as the inside of my washing machine so I haven’t been able to wash my hats. My friend told me he cleans it with a brush like this video so I’ll have to try it. I have 20+ hats that need washing and I can’t do with washing 1 hat at a time.
Just watched the video and then launched into the project full steam ahead! Worked on six of my husband’s caps and boy oh boy, they were so dirty. Drying now on a towel. He hasn’t noticed yet😉
That's what I was thinking. My main concern is having the hat wrinkle up. Does drying it that way prevent wrinkling? Some of my favorite hats have been ruined that way, and I have some nice ones that I'd love to clean up, but haven't been willing to risk it
I got the same result by just throwing my caps in the washing machine and running it on a short 30°C hand wash program with a light amount of non-bleach laundry detergent. Of course before doing this make sure the brim of the cap is plastic and not cardboard as that could be a disaster.
Hi liked your video very much.. One question.. How do you soften the sweat band area around the forehead because I keep having this problem with all my caps. Its very stiff and hurts when I wear my caps/hats.
If it's real bad, also use vinegar. Do this Dawn soak+brush, rinse, then spray it with vinegar. Let it sit for at least an hour, rinse and repeat if necessary.
i got pushed off a boat (as a prank/joke) into a lake with my hat on while fishing with friends i kept it on my head while wet throughout the day and it shrank a lot any chance a hat will shrink if i hand wash it ? i don't want it to shrink
I did wash my husband’s hat just you said and it got a mark on it like a water stain on the rim of the hat. What can I do? It’s a tan light beige hat. Thank you 😊
My sweat loves to create art work and ruin my caps... Imma follow what you've suggested. Already got DAWN dish soap cuz that's the only stuff I use, and it's the BEST as it's made from real ducklings... lol😊
First of all will Lysol cleaner like the can work? Second of all will any soap work like gain dish soap and can I set it out to dry in the sun since it’s white Third of all great video very helpful
My major problem is getting hair oils out of my hats. Even after soaking in Dawn and scrubbing the affected areas with a toothbrush, I get this waxy residue left over that just won't come off. You can't really spot treat as the entire bill and inner headband area is involved. I have yet to find a solution to this problem.
Yeah, this will work best with monochromatic hats. Anything with Red, White and Blue such as my Buffalo Bills and NY Giants hats the colors bleed. Even in cold water.

I like it, it's pretty much like detailing
A lot of us have real expensive hats. This is a must if we get stains on polyester and cotton blends.
My NI@@A
Watching this while my hats are in the dishwasher
😂😂😂😂
Someone literally told me to put hats in the dishwasher a couple hours ago 😂😂
😂😂😂🤣
😁😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
One little suggestion … ball up a hand towel and put it under the hat while it’s drying. Helps keep the shape and also absorbs some of the water.
That's what I do as well. It works like a charm. When you remove the towel you can feel all of the moisture it extracted from the hat.
This comment was more useful than the entirer video.
Thank you for the suggestion, I just did this
If it is an unstructured hat, wear it while it is still damp so it forms to your head.
Works on snapback hats , fitted no.
I NEEDED this! my husband always gets his hats dirty and tells me to throw it in the dishwasher and then it gets ruined and he "has" to buy a new one! Lol. Thanks for the tips! Love ya hun!
Thank you ❤️
BULL CRAP ! ! !
I've tried SHAMPOO, DAWN DISH SOAP, OXY CLEAN LIQUID.
With a TOOTH BRUSH, SCRUB BRUSH, MY FINGERS.
With COLD, WARM and HOT WATER !
why use the dishwasher and not like... a regular clothes washer
Well, the person above must be your husband
@@valleybiitch because a washer/dryer would ruin the hat shape and the bill.

Fantastic!
I must say I had my doubts but this really works. I didn't even use a stain remover, just the dawn soap with this same method. Thank you so much!😊

Thank you ✨
I have a Kimes hat, and it’s my favorite hat, it’s my nice hat and I’ve gotten it a little dirty, I will try this out
Won’t completely soaking the hat ruin the bill of the hat? I’ve been trying to do this but the bills keep getting warped . Any tips for that?

Biggest thing for me is a hat shrinking or losing its form.
For the form after you wash it blow a balloon inside the hat and it will keep the form 👍

Thanks, I'm gonna go crazy this weekend cleaning my gym hats :)
Good luck!
Dawn is the best soap, fast orange smells good and feels nice but nothing gets grease off of things like dawn.
Thank you! I have a hat that my past job gave me and will do these methods on it 😊
Great video! What color/brand is your nail polish, its so beautiful!!!
❤️❤️❤️
I've found a Ballon helps keep its shape when drying
Does this work well with grease and oil , I am a mechanic by trade so my hats get quite filthy lol
Hi. Thanks. If you elevate a cereal bowl upside down🙃 then, place the wet hat on top of it, it really helps it to keep its shape. Cheers🌬️🏡.

What about hats made from wool? Would woolite work for that?
Will this work for vintage cardboard bills?
I don’t have the spray form that I have the powder so how would I use that
Dawn dish soap is awesome also have used it to ean muzzleloader barrel and greasy hands

What about fitted hats with a straight bill? Im scared it will ruin the shape.
Does it have to be dawn dish soap? Can it just be a dish soap from say like trader joes?
Can i use fabric Washington cloth instead of dish soap?

Any tips on removing 2-3 small dog pee stains on a black/white hoodie? the stains are on the white part too :P washing machine does not remove it.
Washing changed the color of the hat. Does it come back to the original color once it dries?
It shouldn’t have….
i dry my hats with the underside, flipping the head band out facing the sun. it kills the organic matter that causes bad mildewy odor.

Is there a recommendation on what to do if the hat loses its stiffness. Is there some kind of spray or treatment?
