And a few weeks after this, AverageTrey got the world record with a sub 3:00:00! This run is better commentated though, and very entertaining.

i do gotta say something when they discuss the "shotgun spray" it definitely is not a glitch as it is mentioned a single time in the enclosed instruction booklet for the game

God everytime I see a sunshine speedrun at GDQ the more I'd like to do a speedrun of this casually (if that even is such a thing). I just love how much open-ness and control this game has and pulling off all these amazing stunts just looks like a blast to do!
That is def a thing! That's how you start learning a speedrun too. I did a casual first attempt at speedrunning Pokémon G/S and it took 2 hours but it was so fun and I felt proud even being able to do the code-writing part at all!
A casual speedrun is indeed a thing. It's when you go for PB instead of WR.
You should look up the "Prima %" video that bouncyboy did, it's really funny and is basically a casual walk-through of the game.
Casual speedrunning is fun. I don’t intend on trying to beat a world record, I just want to beat a game quickly and have fun
I've done multiple shitty (casual) speedruns of Dark Souls, using suboptimal weapons, and they are fun!

I’ll repeat what they said at the end: AverageTreyVG has VERY GOOD histories on speedruns for games. They are intimate in a way only a runner can be.

I think in total he had three deaths (two at fast corona, one by trying to flex in Gelato 1). And of course an intentional death at honey skip. But overall very solid play

goes to show that sometimes when you just enjoy what you're doing and enter flowstate, rather than over-worry about details and output, you perform really well.
I just realized the background of the timer is a binary timer.

How does that work?
@@spudsbuchlaw Behind the digital timer, there are 6 rectangles, each corresponding to one of the digits on the timer. Each of these rectangles are split into 4 rectangles. Each of these corresponds to a bit, which can have value 0 or 1. In this case, 1 is the lighter color and 0 is the darker. In binary, each bit represents a power of 2.
2^0=1
2^1=2
2^2=4
2^3=8
So in binary, 1010 is 2^0 + 2^2, which is 5.
On this timer, the bits are represented from bottom to top, so at 2:26:18.4, the timer is 0100 0100 0110 1000 0001 0010

SteveNathn I was born 3 years after this game was released, so sadly I still haven't been able to get my hands on it to this day. It's really unfortunate that GameCube games(and gamecubes in general) are getting much harder to get your hands on, because I would absolutely love to experience these classics as well lmao

I always think speed running streams like this are just so wholesome in a way. It's just a bunch of people sitting down in a room and watching some extremely talented person play a video game!

Super Mario sunshine is such an interesting and fun speed run to watch. The movement is so fluid and smooth.
Trey is so unassuming and low-key during this run, despite everything he has to remember and perform during such. I'd be bouncing off the walls if I could do this at this level.
It really is not hard to remember the route when you have ran it for a long time. It’s nailing the tricks and having good movement that is impressive :D

This is my favorite AGDQ Speedrun. Great game, very flashy strats, I know a good amount about the game so I can follow decently, and the commentary is fantastic the whole time.

One of the greatest speed runs I have ever seen.
Watching this speedrunner completely troll that island secret with the death water... I can't imagine how many hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of casual players' time has been collectively wasted on that BULLSHIT level, by far the hardest shine in the game, and he savages it it like 45 seconds from path-to-shine. It was somewhat cathartic, but also kind of infuriating.

Today 18 years ago this game was released. I had no idea until Nintendo Hungary posted it on facebook. I watched streams of the game not even knowing that today is the day. I'm excited to play it on 3d all-stars
