I dont know if you realize how lucky you are. Your dad has taught you things that you can use in life forever. My dad used to beat the crap out of us and my mom. I thought I was invisible growing up, he never talked to me or acknowledged me. Now that I am a dad, (he's 7 and I am 50) I show him everything, how to cook, fix things and most importantly, how to be a good, decent human being. I love your videos, I wonder what it would have been like to have a dad like yours.

Your dad is very wise. Having that bunkhouse means a place to rest in relative security and out of the elements while working on the cabin. Not to mention a place to bunk while hunting. This is really well done, great job you two.

Hey Outsider, just wanted to say how satisfying it was to see your tractor back up and running! The ignition solenoid was exactly what went bad on our 1940's ferguson te20 a couple years ago, and for anyone who has never been in need of your tractor and not had it running, you know man, it isn't fun! Very glad to see the cabin project back up and running, you should have your dad narrate an episode lol
So, that is an ignition solenoid? It's not the starter relay? Or is it a solenoid relay? I only ask because all my life that was the relay so I am confused. I knoe it doesn't matter much...just curious.
It's basically the same thing, I got confused too so I looked it up. Starter relays/solenoids are basically just a big switch that activates after the key is turned, the ignition having a tiny charge then activates the solenoid/relay sending the full 6 to 12 volts from the battery and the ignition and into the starter itself. Fun stuff really
AH...thanks. Some starter relays don't use a solenoid but an armature. I guess I got confused because there is another solenoid on the starter itself. Thanks! Learn something new all the time - even after all this time.

Cute tractor it reminds me of my dad...the clinking of tools in the box& his trucker cap. We had a bunkhouse on an oxbow lake off the Missouri river in Iowa south of the airbase. 25 acres of woods ,an old orchard,and beautiful sandy soil that grew the most delicious tomatoes and black diamond watermelon. It's a kind of work that is the best kind of exhausting. Thanks for taking the time to record your time& reminding me of mine. The sound of the tractor & chain saw remind me of my dad.thankyou.!

What a wonderful life for you guys. Learning how to make things like the cabin is something you will enjoy the rest of your lives! The fact that the cabin is built in a dense forest makes the project even more wonderful. I have learned that there are all sorts of projects you can enjoy without spending a fortune. most folks who have some sort of fortune usually never experience the satisfaction of working with their hands! Love the bunk house / tool shed. If I can make one suggestion, I would spin the hinged window around and have it open out. That way you could prop it open even when raining or snowing...like an awning window. Nice work!

Zip zip zip, your dad knows what he's doing. Nice setup out there. Very nice. My grandparents had a wood stove and I promise you I've seen the house thermometer above 100° in the winter. It would literally give you a nose bleed. Lord what I wouldn't do today for that miserable experience just to have them back alive again.

Thank you for the video!! I was so excited that the tractor is back up and running!! Also $160 for the bunkhouse is great, I’d imagine if I tried to do the same it would cost a lot more. In addition Just for safety purposes, I would store your gasoline outside of the bunkhouse it maybe a little box or something. I think that if there were a fire, it would be hard to get out of the top bunk. (p.s. bunkhouse is the former name for bughouse, a variation of the game of chess)

What a wonderful talent you and your dad have. It's amazing how fast you accomplish things together. I enjoyed watching this and a few of your other videos. I Love your humble Spirit and how down to earth you seem.. The bond you share with your dad reminds me alot of how the relationships my brother and I had with our dad.. They both passed away 6 months apart in 2010. I miss them both a lot. It is nice to see other families who are close knit like that and who enjoy spending time doing Real things together out in nature... Anyways GOD bless you!
What an unexpected pleasure, happening by and clicking on your video! I worked alongside my stepdad, at the base of Mt.Rainier, 30 miles up into the woods on a logging road. We joined two loggers' bunkhouses together in a "T" shape, in an abandoned logging camp, and made a terrific cabin for the five of us..2sisters & mom. We lived in it while working on it, so it was rough in the beginning. I loved working with him,learning how to use tools&learning all their names, making hand-hewn shakes for the roof, etc,and hand made scenic glazed tiles to inset into the stone wall we made next to the hooded stone fireplace. I particularly enjoyed your voice & spare narration, and the silence in yr video. I could just SMELL the fresh cut wood, and the rain. Thanks for such a beautiful, peaceful video, that brought back the very best part of a complicated childhood. We went to sleep to the sounds of the coyotes howling...it was pure bliss. I often slept outside, alone, away from the cabin, looking up at the stars, pretending I was a wild child, raised by the animals I gradually tamed, far from civilization....
I miss it to this day, and long to return.
Your video granted me the crackling fire, silence, and the lullaby of howling wolves. I'll sleep well tonight,

You are a very good man. My name is Earl , and when I was a kid I too was pushed around. And , for some reason , along the way , and time I out grew that. I am now 73 yrs. old 5'1" , and I kinda let things just roll off my back. I still do get up set at some people , but in time it all blows over. And you're right , we all have insecurities, we just have to learn how to handle each incident as it comes. I like where I am at in my life at this time.

I too found you as a 'suggested video'... I watch many 'narrow boat' videos about the canals in the UK. They heat a large 68+ foot narrow boat using a 'yatch heater' still burns logs or coal but so small, saves space plus has fans attached go spread heat around. I realize you 'saved $$$' knowing your bunkhouse is temporary...i still would use your bunkhouse later, as you will, but those lil yatch heaters really save space and put out tons of heat! Love the vid!

I have watched this video over and over it's great. As you said with your build sight being so remote it was the only solution. The way you and your Dad work so well together so is endearing as you both will have those memories to last a lifetime and pass on to your own children watching your videos.

Praying for you I lost my Dad at the age of 17, mom at 12. Lots of uncles though Dad had seven brothers and three sisters. I have a younger brother and nephews and nieces. My wife and I have one son and two daughters five grandchildren. Looking forward to fifty years of Marriage in 2024.

Many don't have that honor.
Considering that one of the biggest expenses in any building project is lumber, the $160 price tag is a bit of a misnomer, as it would be completely unattainable unless you had the portable sawmill - that can cost thousands for a basic setup, plus the chainsaws, tractor, generator, etc...
I've always thought it would be fantastic to have such a setup & do something such as this,
Though i am personally not a fan of the extreme cold temps.
Keep up the good work, interested to see how the cabin turns out .
But more importantly,
Relish the invaluable time with your father.
You still have your dad stay close to him he's a wise man like your videos and info keep it going 👍👍🇺🇸😊

Nice sounding engine.i owned a 900 sq foot house with basement and when I got my fireplace-insert going, in the dead of winter, I still had to open my front and back doors. After that I didn't get it going so hot. lol I sure miss my home. Hobo spiders took over and I got my granddaughter out of there. Our town, or rather, near railroad tracks, was overrun with them. We still have hobo traps. Had exterminators out twice, no good. Even in my beautiful garden. They are a woman's fist size and brown. They came from England and got their name from catching rides on trains and ships. They are not as toxic as the brown recluse in Texas or that area, but I nearly lost my arm. Now I sprinkle salt and baking soda everywhere they can get in and they don't like cedar. I use cedar wood blocks/sticks everywhere. Haven't seen even one since doing this, or a year and a half now. I digress; Good work guys!!
Hello, As I am happy You've fixed tractor, I would like to share one good tip with You. When You want to store cut wood, it is good to put some small wooden pins between every one ply of wood to let fresh air going between. It will dry quicker and will avoid the black colour from it. It helps a lot. Pleased to watch, looking forward to see more. Have a nice day!

Great progress Outsider, you and your Dad make the dynamic duo. Great to get the tractor running and a place to lay the head. Brings back many memories of helping my father-in-law build their cottage off grid, lots of challengs to be sure; and yes, we had an old tractor to do the heavy work lol.

I have seen a few cabins like this and they use common tin foil between two layers of plastic to reflect hot and cold. Awesome build guys.
