    ...It's happening! We're finishing the cabin exterior! In this episode, we complete the chinking, fell a couple cedars, and make some lumber to trim out the windows & doors with. ...but I broke my expensive camcorder in the process. :(

      Considered cheap pastic tubing you could cut into half pipe for 'gutters' for the cabin as water collection surface area of that roof would get a *lot* of H2O

      It's a hilarious party game. Keep making the landing higher until there is a winner. Much technique needed, but can get it well over head height. I've let go and pushed one up and it landed like a bird on something twice my height. Should be in the Olympics!

    That trim just made the cabin!! What a difference with it on. Having as much property as you have and the ability to cut down any tree you want, you are showing real/true stewardship of the land. Something you should take great pride in, many don't.
    On a side note, you and your dad look like you work well together and enjoy each other's company. Seeing that in your videos is a true blessing. Enjoy every minute of it (as I'm sure you do) that you can, the memories will be worth looking it!
    Keep the great videos coming, I enjoy each and everyone of them.

    The cabin iz looking good, reminds me of watching my grandpa build one for my aunt about 44 year's ago, and it still looks good today. He used the wood on the property, and the logs were quite a bit bigger around than yours, he used a crane to set the logs. They used a wood burning stove to heat the house, and propane for the water heater, and regular oven. My grandpa never got a permit, and it's not on record either, but he ran electric back to the house. My aunt passed away, and now just my uncle lives back there. One feature I liked, was that my cousin had his room in a loft that was good sized. When you build these cabins right, they will out last a regular house. I see your cabin lasting a long time. God bless.

      Your forestry knowledge impresses me. I had to go to school and work in the woods to acquire most of what I have learnt.
      And, where did you learn about building construction? You two do very well at it.
      I may well be behind in knowing your vocational situation. But I hope you don't give up the ministry. We need wise and thoughtful men to tend the sheep. And I have noticed through the years that pastors who have worked with their hands or at least had demanding worldly jobs are the best spiritual leaders. This is part of your seminary education.
      You are in class for these things, both for your ministry as well as for your life:
      Planning, figuring out, logic, practicality, working with people, problem solving, and many more things. Some like this and some different.
      I like every bit of the Lord that you have included in this. Without Him is no blessing or success!

    The cabin is definitely coming along and looking good.
    saw an interesting bit of property available in my area. 151 acres of completely undeveloped land, limited access to boat or sea plane only.
    1 stream running through, a couple area of standing water, covered in second growth old enough to be logged. Perfect for a 100% off-grid build.
    $7,000 a year property taxes as is. ( 2020 tax year assessment )
    35 kilometres from Prince Rupert via boat. borders Hecate Straight and awesome fishing area, comes with a good sheltered anchorage.

    • @TheOutsiderCabin
      @TheOutsiderCabin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like an absolute dream! Building on such an isolated plot would be an adventure! The kind that would either make or break you. 😅 Taxes seem high though. Although I'm not familiar with the BC market.

    • @jaquigreenlees
      @jaquigreenlees 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOutsiderCabin most of coastal BC is as costly as Toronto. Mild seasonal changes make it comfortable living year round.
      In this particular case, the taxes are likely due to one of the very few sheltered anchorages in the bay being attached to the property as well as the year round running water from the stream. Most island properties have water supplies closer to your cabins.

    You just need a water tank near the cabin,to catch the rain water,,up on a strong wooden base,with hoses going into the cabin as your water supply.

    • @ulrichkalber9039
      @ulrichkalber9039 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ideally that tank would have to be protected from frost.
      for example the tank sitting inside a large box that is filled with earth to insulate.
      Thats what they did on the eastern front to keep the watertanks from freezing wich they needed for their steam locomotives. no water no steam...

    @14:42 To avoid capillary movement of water and rot, it's customary on traditional/wooden windows here in Norway to make a ca *1/4" gap* btw the (exterior) vertical sills/jambs and the casing. In addition, we normally also include a drip-grove on the underside of the sill. But then, perhaps we are more accustomed to vertical storms with rain and snow.

    brother the cabin is the nicest I have ever seen, I love the fact that your grandfather managed the forest in the most sustainable form of forestry there is, selectively removing the inferior trees, thinning and letting the young desirable trees grow, it must be like a park in places -only better, not thousands of people stomping through, a little piece of paradise
