Reminds me of putting corrugated "zinc-alume" on my kit home. It comes with an oily coating from the factory, and even standing on a _low-angle_ sloped roof, pressing down hard to drive tek-screws into the purlins below can cause the feet to lose grip . . . I dunno how I didn't slip off that huge expanse of roof, but saved thousands of dollars by building my own house, so I guess it was worth it.
@@danieloliver20 Yep, that's true. I now live in another country, but I can still see the house I built on 5 acres of land in Western Australia 30 years ago, via the wonders of Google Earth. Gives me a lot of satisfaction.
@@danieloliver20 I've discovered that it's a good idea to take some "screen shots" of your Google Earth images periodically. Its amazing how quickly things can change over the years. Already two houses that I've lived in have been demolished. One by ALCO which wanted to expand its aluminium bauxite settling ponds into a semi-rural area of bushland. The other was a typical Aussie style quarter-acre suburban house and garden that was demolished for high density housing units. Both houses were only in existence for 30 years. Gotta preserve your personal history via satellite imagery these days!
I drove a Bombi snowcat for many years in the ski industry. Lets just say I was very happy when we got rid of it. There are such better machines out there. Hope you have fun with it.

“The Bomb”...a great name for a machine with great potential! Can’t wait to see it with a new coat of paint! Now for the cabin. I believe that if we’re possible to hammer a nail with that chainsaw, you would do so. It is wonderful watching the progression of your work, from the foundation to your present situation. The portable mill has been a great tool, maybe as important as the chainsaw. I like the fact that the cabin has been made with dead poplar, farming them and allowing the young trees to reach for the sky. The precision that you and Senior have applied will insure the cabin’s survival for a hundred years or more. I’d love to hear the stories told by great-grandchildren (or great-great...) as they sit by the wood stove, stories that tell of Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa’s life in the wilderness. As much as I enjoy these videos, I and most of your subscribers will be quite sad when the cabin is complete. Can you share with us possible plans for future ideas? Your skills as a cinematographer have made each and every episode a pleasure to watch. Thanks to you and Senior Outsider for the talent applied to the construction of this cabin. Love your tracked vehicle. Just be sure and video the first time you really get stuck. A friend of mine buried, his in a soft muddy spot on an old strip mine and it took us three days of trying everything to get it out. we just didn't have anything to get too it to hook too. Hope you have better luck with yours.

That’s an awesome snow cat. You’ll be able to groom some nice trails on your property next winter. I’d be adding some big LED light bars front and back and you’ll be able to use it at night as well. Thanks for another great video.
I worked at ski resorts most of my life and I've logged a lot of hours on old Bombardier cats, I love them. One of my favorite jobs was grooming the cross country trails with an old cat. They were so loud you couldn't hear the radio so if someone wanted you they had to send out a snowmobile to find you! Yours looks to be in great shape but I'd like to make 2 suggestions, regularly check the welds on the brake blocks, it's a weak spot. And second, those are summer tracks you have on, they don't have any sideways grip so if you use them in the winter be sure to go straight up or down hills. If you get an angle you can end up sliding sideways incredibly fast. First time it happened to me I damn near crapped my pants. Snowmobile trails and groomed runs are famous for it. Also deep powder. Winter tracks make a massive difference, they're much wider and have T's on the bars for sideways traction. Bomboardier used to have a ton of old gear to sell as parts and their customer service was awesome, been a few years since I've had any dealings with them. You're going to have a lot of fun with that little rig, I'm jealous.

Ah yes, the Bombi! Had one for years, the 4 cylinder ford engine was very good....I didn’t like going downhill forwards, tho. I did do a complete front roll, going over an erosion control berm on a downhill section of a pipeline right of way.....threw a track on a sidehill( because the track was a bit loose), and the steering clutches started to give me trouble. But it sure did climb, and do very well in deep snow!
Great episode! The snowcat will be a real help next winter and in the mud. I had no idea their footprint was so light, that is amazing. Very nice video work peeping the roof and putting it back. The only thing my wife kept saying was “where is his safety harness?” Having climbed a fair amount in my younger years, I know how they can get in the way. Now, being older and wiser all I can tell you is, be safe our friend your wife and family need you. Our prayers are with your wife and the rest of your family. God Bless.
There's a towing company in Southern Utah that has a Bombi. They use it to tow small vehicles that get stuck in the snow. I believe it's for snow only. But I'd be willing to bet it can carry some weight and tow more than your snowmobile can. Enjoy.
Congrats on The Bombi it is a real deal snow trail grooming machine. I drove two of them at The World Series of Snowmobiling races in Boonville, New York 30+ years ago. They weren't fast maybe 20mph (32kph). They had a flat rear bed for a Ambulance Stretcher for injured racers and the other was a tow truck for broken sleds. I think they had Ford inline 4 cylinder about 57HP from a Cortina. About 1 ton [900kg) A real work horse. I know we always kept a box with a spare distributor cap, rotor, points, and plugs in the cab. We also kept a blanket in the cab as the heater wasn"t to good when it was below 0°F. The lights were awful, a LED upgrade is a must plus add rear facing LED's.. A winch is critical in the back woods for a stuck Bombi or down trees. I just saw a 1984 Bombi with a 1 litre Kubota diesel conversion for about $7,800 US in good running condition with a snowplow, winch & LED lights.

Ya your bombi got the extra wide tracks don't feel invincible be gentle keep the wheels bearings tight and greased be gentle with the clutch if standard you must have a 4 cyl ford engine in it Get a set of sprockets in spare and brake bands have fun take care be safe

I love those snowcats. They are great fun to drive in the snow. Just remember to store it with the tracks up on wood planks and not on the dirt. It slows the dry rot of the rubber tracks.
Hard work in beautiful weather. Its said many time in the comments, and i follow its advice to you. Giving an example as a youtube star to the young followers is important, wearing safety gear or a rope is important up there or telling this to your young followers. Your going to love the machine. The bombi with the aluminum grousers are really good in the snow, just be careful in sand, mud and hard rocky areas. The grousers are getting harder to find. Enjoy the machine.
For that nail problem. Silky or Ryoba saw & get close to the nail then use a chisel to split the timber with the grain so the waste splits around the nail. Not fast but easy. This also keeps if safer & can let you cut the 45 deg angle you want. While the chainsaw is a powerful tool sometimes hand tools are the better way to go IMO.

The cabin is coming along nicely! You guys are doing an awesome job! Just a thought, why not remove the handle from that come along and replace it with two jam nuts thus allowing you to use a socket and drill to winch those rafters up into place! Might save dad's arms a bit! Take care!

You made my day, an off-road tank, is there an on road one??? Great tool but once I got my Argo I didn't want anything else, I got so lucky at the scrap yard when I was looking for parts for something else I fund tracks in very good condition for 75$, put them on and burn 2 tanks of gas, I use it like a boat too but I put small electric motor, less noise than the machine, one weekend 2 of my friends came and we painted it, the camouflage was amazing that I had to remember where I park it or wouldn't find it. ;) Only 8 days after got stolen with all my stuff in it, I will get another one and I will put a cutoff on it and a GPS tracker, less than 20$ and 100% sure to find it, your cabin is very nice and cozy.

Ah yes, the Bombi! Had one for years, the 4 cylinder ford engine was very good....I didn’t like going downhill forwards, tho. I did do a complete front roll, going over an erosion control berm on a downhill section of a pipeline right of way.....threw a track on a sidehill( because the track was a bit loose), and the steering clutches started to give me trouble. But it sure did climb, and do very well in deep snow!

The snowcat will be a real help next winter and in the mud. I had no idea their footprint was so light, that is amazing.
Very nice video work peeping the roof and putting it back. The only thing my wife kept saying was “where is his safety harness?” Having climbed a fair amount in my younger years, I know how they can get in the way. Now, being older and wiser all I can tell you is, be safe our friend your wife and family need you.

There's a towing company in Southern Utah that has a Bombi. They use it to tow small vehicles that get stuck in the snow. I believe it's for snow only. But I'd be willing to bet it can carry some weight and tow more than your snowmobile can. Enjoy.
I have watched your videos for well over a year maybe two. I am always amazed at how much you and your Dad get done in a small amount of time.
Congrats on The Bombi it is a real deal snow trail grooming machine. I drove two of them at The World Series of Snowmobiling races in Boonville, New York 30+ years ago. They weren't fast maybe 20mph (32kph). They had a flat rear bed for a Ambulance Stretcher for injured racers and the other was a tow truck for broken sleds. I think they had Ford inline 4 cylinder about 57HP from a Cortina. About 1 ton [900kg) A real work horse. I know we always kept a box with a spare distributor cap, rotor, points, and plugs in the cab. We also kept a blanket in the cab as the heater wasn"t to good when it was below 0°F. The lights were awful, a LED upgrade is a must plus add rear facing LED's.. A winch is critical in the back woods for a stuck Bombi or down trees. I just saw a 1984 Bombi with a 1 litre Kubota diesel conversion for about $7,800 US in good running condition with a snowplow, winch & LED lights.

Ya your bombi got the extra wide tracks don't feel invincible be gentle keep the wheels bearings tight and greased be gentle with the clutch if standard you must have a 4 cyl ford engine in it
Get a set of sprockets in spare and brake bands have fun take care be safe

I love those snowcats. They are great fun to drive in the snow. Just remember to store it with the tracks up on wood planks and not on the dirt. It slows the dry rot of the rubber tracks.

Your going to love the machine. The bombi with the aluminum grousers are really good in the snow, just be careful in sand, mud and hard rocky areas. The grousers are getting harder to find. Enjoy the machine.
Snow cats are cool...except when the snow is to deep, you can float it a top the snow between the tracks.
Making progress great to see. Hope your family is doing well, especially your wife.
For that nail problem. Silky or Ryoba saw & get close to the nail then use a chisel to split the timber with the grain so the waste splits around the nail. Not fast but easy. This also keeps if safer & can let you cut the 45 deg angle you want. While the chainsaw is a powerful tool sometimes hand tools are the better way to go IMO.

Just a thought, why not remove the handle from that come along and replace it with two jam nuts thus allowing you to use a socket and drill to winch those rafters up into place! Might save dad's arms a bit!

You made my day, an off-road tank, is there an on road one??? Great tool but once I got my Argo I didn't want anything else, I got so lucky at the scrap yard when I was looking for parts for something else I fund tracks in very good condition for 75$, put them on and burn 2 tanks of gas, I use it like a boat too but I put small electric motor, less noise than the machine, one weekend 2 of my friends came and we painted it, the camouflage was amazing that I had to remember where I park it or wouldn't find it. ;) Only 8 days after got stolen with all my stuff in it, I will get another one and I will put a cutoff on it and a GPS tracker, less than 20$ and 100% sure to find it, your cabin is very nice and cozy.

just put the rafter in front of the square timber instead of on top of it. it'll still hold a lot of snow load.easier to attach too.
