  • The Norco Shore is back which only means one thing, freeride is back. Although it weighs about as much as the previous generation does its modern geo and suspension kinematics improve its pedalling abilities?

    This thing is badass! I have neither the terrain, the skill, or the testicular fortitude to ride something like this, but it is an impressive machine. I have not seen bikes with an idler pulley until recently watching the video on the P-train. Might be interesting to compare the two bikes.

    I still have my 02 Norco Launch VPS, the nostalgic feeling I get, and the noises coming from the frame are priceless. I'm still rocking the OEM parts other than a Nokian Gazzalodi up front. I grew up on the island in the early 2000's, rode with a lot of legends in Nanaimo. Got way off topic there, bottom line freeride is embedded in my brain, the Norco shore and Launch were my go to bikes and I can only dream of owning the new Shore!

    Would the high pivot & idler mean that the chain wears out faster, since the area of the force being applied through your pedals is being applied to much fewer chain links than in a traditional setup where the chain contacts a much larger area of the chainring?

    If you had to drop spring rates, the damper tune is probably setup for the original shock. If you dropped 10% spring, it's probably ~10% over-damped. That said, the shock should be able to accommodate for that range, much like air shocks... Rad bike, though!

    I've got a 2020 Norco Sight C2 29er (Industry nine enduro s wheelset) owned for 3 years, and also this Norco Shore 1 with (Hydras- FR541s) aprox 6months old, and say they both have a place. Sight def pedals better but for all out confidence and less pedal kick back on gnarly stuff, drops and jumps, shuttle days the shore is leagues apart. I do tend to go for Shore more often on local even if it adds 20% more difficulty going up as it descends so well. And if we find huge features i know I'm covered. If the shore lasts like my Sight next few years just as well i will be stoked. And for $6000 AUD brand new then $1600 AUD For hydras DT 541s its a steal.
    Also I'm 6.3" 95kg run a XL and 600lb spring its perfect bike to up confidence levels and reassuring bike to go big on, weight really isn't an issue it actually helps it for stability jumping which i prefer too.
    Great bike NORCO you have hit it out the park!!!

    I've been riding this bike for 7 years now! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L It was a great bike the day I got it, put it together, and went on my first ride; more importantly it's an even better bike today. I've ridden trails, street, and skatepark all on this bike. I have replaced almost every part on the bike. Some stuff has broken: derailleurs, wheels, shifter. Everything else were upgrades. The only ramaing original parts are the frame, bottom bracket, and crank set. BB and cranks will be upgraded soon. The geometry isn't great but that is really the only draw back to how good a value this bike is. Even after all the money I've spent upgrading it's still a more affordable bike than I'd have bought from a proper bike shop, especially with full suspension. I've also learned a lot about bikes working on it over the years. It really is one of the best perchases I've ever made and hopefully it'll still be around for another 7 years.

    I really dont know why everyone loves to say alloy bike are more durable than carbon. I work in a bike shop and 90% of cracked or broken frames are alloy bikes. Carbon bike if built properly wont brake, ever. Plus nowadays with all these really complex frame designs it costs the same to manufacture an alloy frame. Not surprised Santa cruz is ditching alloy! Good for them. There are so many cheap alloy bikes out there.

    • @rc-ateam3565
      @rc-ateam3565 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think that carbon is stronger for like casing jumps and forces like that but aluminum won't dent as easy slamming it in to rocks and trees and when a carbon bike is dented it's over.

    • @donsa334
      @donsa334 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Maybe your shop don't have too many clients that are dentists... Not everyone can afford a carbon framed bike there's better things on a bike to spend money + if carbon is cracked it means it's game over for that frame, while alloy may be fixable.

      There's a lot more to durability than fatigue or yield strength. Consider abrasion; a huge issue for freeriders who will be shuttling or loading their bike on bike racks a lot. A brushed aluminum frame is ideal for that kind of scenario (exactly what the bike was designed for).
