About that Fallout 4 Assault Rifle, apparently it was first intended to be a power armor only MMG or HMG, but for some reason, probably time, was turned into the basic assault rifle. As a former Siege player I often wondered if Lion's rifle was even feasibly possible. It didn't seem to make sense to me that a Vector would be in a rifle package. I often wondered that. Appreciate it John
OK, hear me out. The shotgun at the end could work if you forget everything about pump shotguns and redesign the mechanism to pull rounds from the drum magazine into the tube with a ratchet system and then deliver them to the chamber with each pump. The design is still a pretty terrible idea due to the newfound weight at the end of the barrel making it a chore to swing around or aim. Below a 19" barrel the spread on most shotgun loads is too wide to be effective, anyway. I'm saying it could be made, not that it should be. But I still want to see it made.
Yeah, The way that it's shown to work in the game is that that drum at the front isn't actually a detachable magazine (it's still loaded from the port under the breach), but a weird tube extension, probably meant to keep the tube from sticking out beyond the end of the barrel (which ironically makes it more realistic than the standard shotgun in the game, which magically holds six rounds in a tube magazine that's only long enough to fit three rounds.)
So, you're hand loading the magazine tube which ends up in the drum portion and then when you use the pump to load the next shell it comes back down the tube? The design is so insane and impossible. How does the spring inside feed the drum AND pull the last shell back through the tube? What's the point of even having the drum if you're just hand loading the tube? The idea of a drum mag is for quick swapping of 8-12 shells. Being a fixed drum completely defeats the purpose and very easily relegates this weapon to the "Stuff we thought looked cool but did zero homework on physics" pile.
@@sarcasticguy4311 What are you even talking about. With your logic, magazine tubes in general are entirely pointless. You're really focusing on the fact that its shaped like a drum instead of the practical reality that its just an extended tube.
10:33 I don´t know why you would talk smack about this as a Brit, clearly the water jacket barrel shroud thingy is a tea-maker which should have been approached favourably.
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries no way, it's the legend himself! Thank you for all the great content this year, and your series on peculiar weapons on the Royal Armories is excellent content as well. Here's to a better year!

15:49 That shotgun actually IS possible! The real life equivalent is the XRAIL which is mostly seen on Benelli M2s. There are two types I've seen: One replaces the entire magazine tube with a series of four revolving tubes, and the other only replaces the tube extension at the end of the magazine tube. Haven't seen an XRAIL on a pump action, but it'll probably work.
@bree walden; womanizer And that doesnt remove problem. Shells would still need to go from first side to side feeding of the magazine to row feeding of the tube.
@@Alpha.Phenix Thats not a same thing. In p90 it works because feedlips rotate first round into the chamber, if p90 had feed tube before chamber all rounds would be under spring tension and it would jam. Im not even starting about rimmed shotgun shells and how that would not work with p90 type mechanism.
Love the cursed weapons in EfT. At least they are somewhat realistic. But whatever they did with Vanguard is absolutely disgusting, my grandpa would get out of his grave to strangle some Activision employees if he knew what they did to those classic rifles.
12:30 "Never seen anyone do a tactical reload with a 100-round Thompson mag before." Technically, you still didn't, because the 'OpErAtOr' decided he was going to perform almost the entire reload with retention only to just drop the previous drum on the floor while he seated the new one. I mean, I guess if he's got a giant kangaroo pouch, then maybe it's a true tactical reload.
Would love to see the weapons of Payday 2 next, mostly due to the modifications like the snub-nosed minigun and Barrett, the sheer wackiness of Bulletstorm and Swan song, along with gun animations and such
You guys should have him take a look at Black, considering it's a game where the devs actually went out to firing ranges to personally use the firearms they were including in the game. Also Remnant: From The Ashes could be fun considering all the (conventional) guns in that game are basically garage guns cobbled together from memory after the fall of civilization.
Maybe you could do a compilation where he says what some of his favorite fictional guns of the year are. It’d be cool to see him do the R301 on a titanfall video (this is a hint) and say “yes, this is pretty great.”
One of my favorite guns is the M1 Garand. It's a weapon so legendary, that General George Patton described it as the greatest implement of battle ever created. 6:09 this thing is an atrocity. it's sacralige. it's intolerable.

Jonathan should check Resonance of Fate. It's quite old and all, but weapon upgrade system in this game is something. I mean if attaching layers of different optical and red dot sights isn't cursed I don't know what is)
if only the game rendered the guns to match the insane accessory loadouts for the guns. Still, nothing quite like causing a launch and a smackdown with an smg.
Feel bad for the FO4 assault rifle, since it was supposed to be a .50 cal heavy MG. So the cooling jacket, carry handle, etc all make sense in that context. And then they were like, "here, it's in 5.56."
I've been playing 7 Days to Die recently, almost every gun in that game is cursed. In a recent update they changed the 'hunting rifle' to have a folding metal stock, two picatinny rails, and no rear sight. Oh, and a spoon as the bolt handle.
@@ddm_gamer That's because Tell Tale owned the rights to the PS4 port, they then went bust. The Fun Pimps have since acquired the rights back but it's unlikely to be updated for the PS4. Maybe PS5 stands a chance when they finally get out of Alpha. It's the reason I bought a cheap second hand PC. Simply to play 7days.
At least the mods in EFT are technically possible, as fudd as they are Many of the mods in Vanguard stop the firearm from functioning. You can't have no stock on a STG44. There is a buffer tube. The rifle will not cycle nor charge
I mean i think EFT is one of the most realistic games in terms of it's portayal of firearms out there. It's still a video game, but the details in terms of animation and portrayals are excellent
Some of the rifle chassis systems could be doable. Maybe. You could have a sideways magazine. The FG42 did this. Many of the bolt action rifle we can do. Don't see why we couldn't do a pump action Whittling's Elephant rifle. Essentially a pump action Magnum rifle. What we don't have are. - Elemental guns and ammunition ( Dragons Breath ammunition is the closest that I've seen . Guess that's elemental) - Energy Shields - Grenade class mods - Class Mods - Semiautomatic shotgun that has very low recoil , fast reloading, fast firing and still be an effective cartridge. As seen in Borderlands. - Crazy looking Gatling guns - We don't really use bayonets that much. Certainly not long ones. - Semiautomatic rifles with very long bayonets. - Revolvers firing crazy fast. Overall I think we can do chassis systems and sideways magazines. Some sci fi looking real guns or stocks are - H&K SL8 rifle - Hera Arms CQR stock - Thordsen Gen 2 featureless stock - Magpul PDR - Hera Arms VRB
Would love to see Jonathan reacting to new weapon malfunction system in Tarkov, which includes higher chances of failure to feed with these obnoxious drum mags.
This series is just fantastic. Examining accuracies/inaccuracies from video game guns while acknowledging that they are, in fact, video game firearms. I know Jonathan has examined some firearms from H3VR (Hotdogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades), but honestly there's so many firearms that have been added since then that maybe we could get a part 3. Some recent additions have been the EM2, Welrod, Ultimax, and so many more sweet guns to use in virtual reality. Plus there's the surplus of community modded firearms as well.
The good part about Vanguard is that you can use more than 5 attachments and it has better textures and graphics than MW but the bad part is that it's a big step back in realism and is more of an arcade style game
The Machinist's new Job Weapon in FFXIV: Endwalker is pretty freaking atrocious as well. Most of the guns in the game are crazy high-fantasy magical designs or forgivable fantasy-style revolvers, but the Ataktos seems like it was designed by someone who googled pictures of guns and threw every random feature that they thought looked cool onto the model. It's got: A bolt-action (on a weapon that's capable of fully-automatic fire) What looks like an 8x power scope (on a weapon that's handled like a pistol) A Skorpion-style top-folding stock that isn't actually a folding stock (it doesn't have a hinge and is just welded over the top of the gun) Two magazines welded together (both of which fit into the _gigantic_ magazine well) A sling swivel molded directly out of the barrel (not really bad, just... weird) No ejection port No actual buttstock I'm sure there's more, but that was when I stopped looking in order to preserve my sanity.
This is actually one of my favourite looking machinist weapons in the game, since most guns are so nonsensical it was finally nice to have something that slightly resembles reality especially when dyed in black Let me know if you found any nice machinist guns would be cool to collect them
Even if the stock DID unfold, it wouldn't clear the scope. And even if it cleared the scope, it blocks the handguard in the folded position and would block the scope in the unfolded position because it's flipped upside down from how it should be. The bolt handle is located so far to the rear I don't understand how you're supposed to operate it. Let go of the pistol grip, grab the forestock with your left hand, hold the carbine at arm's length and pull it like you're pulling a ripcord? God, thanks for telling us about this thing. The more I stare at it the worse it gets.

@@sarcasticguy4311 To be fair it was a community design, so 'it looks cool' was probably the only consideration the modder who made it had.
I think it is just the steroid version of the X-Rail, and Jonathan is actually wrong here
@@sarcasticguy4311 What are you even talking about. With your logic, magazine tubes in general are entirely pointless. You're really focusing on the fact that its shaped like a drum instead of the practical reality that its just an extended tube.
I wish these were at least a half hour long a piece, always look forward to these and always could use more Jonathan reactions!
7:20 Why does the M1 Garand make that ping noise? I thought it was to let you know that you've ran out of ammo and you have to reload it.
The ping is from the stripper clip being ejected. However with a detachable drum mag like that there wouldn't be a clip there in the first place.
@@sailoroftheinternet3290 Ah ok! Thank you for clarifying! I understand it now.
10:33 I don´t know why you would talk smack about this as a Brit, clearly the water jacket barrel shroud thingy is a tea-maker which should have been approached favourably.
How could I miss that? For shame. :)
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries no way, it's the legend himself! Thank you for all the great content this year, and your series on peculiar weapons on the Royal Armories is excellent content as well. Here's to a better year!

@@Davenzoid I'm with you 100% there. Happy New Year!

There's nothing out of the ordinary here. The guy that customized that is clearly just an AR owner.
Now we just need the most Blessed weapons of 2021!😆 This is legit awesome tho, thanks Jonathan & Gamespot!
You're welcome, and Happy New Year!
They already did that sort of... They did "best guns of 2021"
When i watched that, I was hoping they cursed guns episode was coming lol
I just love when Jonathon saw the Thompson and his first reaction was to channel his inner Pitch Meetings. "Wow wow wow wow wow wow... Wow."
😋
15:49 That shotgun actually IS possible! The real life equivalent is the XRAIL which is mostly seen on Benelli M2s. There are two types I've seen: One replaces the entire magazine tube with a series of four revolving tubes, and the other only replaces the tube extension at the end of the magazine tube. Haven't seen an XRAIL on a pump action, but it'll probably work.
He misunderstood the design, it actually makes perfect sense the drum magazine is essentially an extension to the tube magazine all shotguns have.
@@Prometheus7272 It does not make sense. How you connect drum mag where you have shells contiguous to the magtube where shells are in a row?
@bree walden; womanizer And that doesnt remove problem. Shells would still need to go from first side to side feeding of the magazine to row feeding of the tube.
@@w4rpf1nnlad So kind of like how the P90 rotates it's bullets as they go from the mag into the gun?
@@Alpha.Phenix Thats not a same thing. In p90 it works because feedlips rotate first round into the chamber, if p90 had feed tube before chamber all rounds would be under spring tension and it would jam. Im not even starting about rimmed shotgun shells and how that would not work with p90 type mechanism.
Love the cursed weapons in EfT. At least they are somewhat realistic. But whatever they did with Vanguard is absolutely disgusting, my grandpa would get out of his grave to strangle some Activision employees if he knew what they did to those classic rifles.
“FEETCH ME THEIR SOULS “
@Aveteran Player Absolutely
The attachments in Vanguard prevent the weapon from working correctly.
@@XNDUIWOfficial They should make a reference to that Vnaguard failure that instead of the gun working it just blows up.
12:30 "Never seen anyone do a tactical reload with a 100-round Thompson mag before."
Technically, you still didn't, because the 'OpErAtOr' decided he was going to perform almost the entire reload with retention only to just drop the previous drum on the floor while he seated the new one. I mean, I guess if he's got a giant kangaroo pouch, then maybe it's a true tactical reload.
The Australians took all the kangaroo pouches.

It’d be cool to see him do the R301 on a titanfall video (this is a hint) and say “yes, this is pretty great.”
i'd love to see jonathan react to ready or not's guns once the game is a bit more fleshed out, the gunplay and sound design in that game are on point
The reaction to that MP5 has me wheezing over here 🤣
One of my favorite guns is the M1 Garand. It's a weapon so legendary, that General George Patton described it as the greatest implement of battle ever created. 6:09 this thing is an atrocity. it's sacralige. it's intolerable.

Would love to see Jonathan react to Ghost Recon Future Soldier, the gunsmith mechanic in that game was insane and did it before any of these other games
GRFS doesn’t get the love it deserves even from parts of the GR community.
@@afd19850 I loved that game. Wildlands had it's issues but if you played co-op you could at least play stealthy and tactically for the most part if you tried. Breakpoint is just.... awful
PREACH. I adore that game and spent way too many hours tinkering with the weapon customization back in high school
We need to thank The AK guy for making Cursed Gun Images a thing
Jonathan externally: This is so wrong to look at 😔
Jonathan internally: *SCREAMS OF PAIN AND MISERY*
I feel like the natural evolution of this series would be getting various devs on to explain their thought processes to Jonathan, while he points out everything they did wrong while pulling his "I'm not mad, I'm just deeply, deeply disappointed, bordering on betrayed" face at them, until they crumble and say sorry.
You guys absolutely need to show him Insurgency Sandstorm, show him the Welrod with the bipod and scope
Oh God
Oh will deffo hate it XD
They already did iirc, maybe it doesn't make the cut for this video
Maybe it’ll appear in the “sausage video” where other weapons from different games that didn’t make the cut get mashed up in a little neat compilation
He already did that game.
"I can hear John Garand revolving in his grave, probably more efficiently than this drum mag." Probably one of my favorite Fergusonisms.
Real title: Giving PTSD to a firearms Expert
That utterly visceral pain at 6:24 tho
I felt it too
Feel bad for the FO4 assault rifle, since it was supposed to be a .50 cal heavy MG.
Wanna add me on steam? i play it to
I wanted to buy that game on ps4 but it literaly hasnt gotten any updates on console for years... Honestly a shame
Feel like the guns being cursed fits the post apocalyptic theme lol

"Get your modern warfare out of my WW2"
Ea and Activision: hold my beer 🍻
At least the mods in EFT are technically possible, as fudd as they are
Many of the mods in Vanguard stop the firearm from functioning. You can't have no stock on a STG44. There is a buffer tube. The rifle will not cycle nor charge
I mean i think EFT is one of the most realistic games in terms of it's portayal of firearms out there. It's still a video game, but the details in terms of animation and portrayals are excellent
I thought not having a stock on STG-44 would just effect the recoil.
"Why are we here? Just to suffer?"

To be fair, a checkering on the grip would be easy enough to make on any work bench with halfway decend wood working tools.
Jon needs to question his insanity once he seen COD Vanguard guns
2:24 you know in Max Payne 3 something similar happened, only instead of an oil can it was a bottle, and it was attached with tape
I think it would be neat for Johnathan to react to borderlands guns, because half of them seem impossible
Borderlands is a fantasy sifi world though, it’s not trying to be realistic like CoD.
Guess that's elemental)
- Energy Shields
- Grenade class mods
- Class Mods
- Semiautomatic shotgun that has very low recoil , fast reloading, fast firing and still be an effective cartridge. As seen in Borderlands.
- Crazy looking Gatling guns
- We don't really use bayonets that much. Certainly not long ones.
- Semiautomatic rifles with very long bayonets.
- Revolvers firing crazy fast.
Overall I think we can do chassis systems and sideways magazines.
Some sci fi looking real guns or stocks are
- H&K SL8 rifle
- Hera Arms CQR stock
- Thordsen Gen 2 featureless stock
- Magpul PDR
- Hera Arms VRB
At 1:05 he just looks bewildered
Can't wait for more cursed weapons in 2022!
bro you have amazing content and I love your dry humour approach to these digital firearms, glad i found your channel today
The good part about Vanguard is that you can use more than 5 attachments and it has better textures and graphics than MW but the bad part is that it's a big step back in realism and is more of an arcade style game
It was very honourable of you to only list two bad parts of Vandguard!
@@afd19850 I only played the free trial lol
@@ChrisG1392 same here lol!
All CoDs are arcade shooters lol
The sheer disgust on his face when he sees the "not a Garand" is priceless.
It's got:
A bolt-action (on a weapon that's capable of fully-automatic fire)
What looks like an 8x power scope (on a weapon that's handled like a pistol)
A Skorpion-style top-folding stock that isn't actually a folding stock (it doesn't have a hinge and is just welded over the top of the gun)
Two magazines welded together (both of which fit into the _gigantic_ magazine well)
A sling swivel molded directly out of the barrel (not really bad, just... weird)
No ejection port
No actual buttstock
I'm sure there's more, but that was when I stopped looking in order to preserve my sanity.
This is actually one of my favourite looking machinist weapons in the game, since most guns are so nonsensical it was finally nice to have something that slightly resembles reality especially when dyed in black
Let me know if you found any nice machinist guns would be cool to collect them
The magazines look like if you tried loading a Barrett with a couple of 1911 mags.
@@kristopher4557 Matte Replica Blade's Ingenuity. It's a stagecoach double barrel shotgun. One of the better looking Blade relic weapons.
15:48 You missed the best part of the panic attack. It somehow nonsensically has a wider spread the more times you shoot it.
Technically, this might be possible with a soft, gradually eroding choke? Maybe? But why?
