If you're suggesting CS:S or 1.6 due to the left hand features on virtually all the weapons in the game (IE AK, Scout, and AWM bolts on the left, AR ejection port and forward assist on left), it's simply because all the weapons were modeled and animated from the left side and were mirrored to the right for a more traditional look.
I was just thinking about that. But most of the weapons in the games are made up and overall would be just repeating what has been said on Tarkov videos

what's nice about BF1 is that dice was really good with attention to detail, the british in the game use the bolt as he describes, whereas every other nation doesn't. basically showing that the british have more experience with cycling the bolt of the gun compared to other nations
Two things to say: Firstly, I only just noticed now that when the player is reloading the Kolibri and racks the slide that the guy still has his finger on the trigger. With the distribution of force on such a tiny gun I'm pretty sure that he would fire off a round as he's reloading. Not too big of a safety concern for a Kolibri, but worth pointing out. Second, on the topic of Villar-Perosa stock's I have seen images of authentic Villar-Perosa's with a kind of weird clubfoot stock, but A I'm not sure whether it was meant to assist in shoulder firing or support when fired prone and B I'm not even sure whether they are period WW1, or maybe a post-war effort to make the gun less cumbersome. Great video as always!
@@KillahMate You could say that about a few of the guns in the game. I wouldn't classify all the weapons as 'steampunky' or 'fanciful', save for the auto-mosin and bomb lance. I think everything else is fairly realistic otherwise

Its all approximations though, you'll find features that look like other guns but it all comes together to make a different gun. Like the Karbaga-83, obviously inspired by the Saiga or Vepr 12, but there are parts in it that remind me of the tube stock Valmets, and parts that dont look like any gun in particular at all.

"I like roleplaying as a hapless British soldier who dies a lot" Vibing with Jonathan on this one. COD and Battlefield games do so much to make you feel like an unstoppable hero, but I want the opposite, to feel like a cog in a machine. That's why I really like Rising Storm 2, everyone has access to the same weapons, but they all feel so different it takes genuine effort to get really good with individual guns.
As someone who also likes to roleplay in BF1 as a hapless, period correct, soldier, and is constantly getting stomped on by less discerning "normal" players, I wonder if Jonathan has discovered Verdun?
Ive heard that the winchester was meant for use in aircraft like a rear gunner. The second mag well is for loading and shooting the weapon while reloading the second mag well. It only can feed from one mag at a time so the mag wells actually had two modes of insert, so one can be at the ready and the other one can be actuslly feeding.
On the wiki page for the Villar Perosa, it says the Austro-Hungarian version had straight magazines - Maybe that's where the design of the 'prop' Villar came from?
Fun fact: Beretta M1918 submachine gun was to some degree the actual first smg, although it was literally what happens when you slap a Villar Perosa and a Carcano together, no seriously that's what Italy did
It would be really awesome to see Jonathan reacts to weapons in Rust. The game has pretty realistic bullet physics, especially visible when on the cargo ship and oil rigs.
I always heard "trench broom" and "trench sweepers " referring too pump shotguns. Including tactics like with Bayonet attached hold the slide stationary and pump the gun when up close .if In a group, you make a musket formation with kneeling and standing troops and each blasts at specific area of the trench . ( If even possible of course. Maybe it worked well in the nice clean German trenches ,lol. ) or alternately , some lay down and shoot up,diagonally and some kneel to shoot forward...
How about a video where Jonathan gets to pick 10 weapons he would want to see in video games, either for looks, unusual reloading mechanism or just because they would fit into certain games really well. Maybe do it in categories. 2 Semi Auto Pistols, 2 Revolvers, 2 Shotguns, 2 Assault Rifles, 1 Sniper/DMR and 1 LMG.
Battlefield really sacrificed historical accuracy just to make the game fun. I love how they included guns that never really made it into the first world war/ were only developed as prototypes because it's kind of like they're showing us forgotten weapons and what they could've felt like to use them. The game even shows you the history of the guns to show that they really existed at the time though weren't used in the war.
I'm glad Jonathan made it clear a lot of the guns in this game were not period correct. I remember a thread post on the CoD wikia many years back (maybe during MW3?) and someone wanted there to be a CoD game with a WW1 multiplayer. This game perfectly explains why a CoD WW1 game (especially with the style of multiplayer CoD had) never existed. There would be no variety in the weapons from what had been given with CoD4 up to that point
I started cycling a bolt the way they will in BF3. Open palm with the bolt sitting in the lower middle. Once you get good at it, it's way quicker than trying to wrap your hand or fingers around the bolt. Not saying people can't do it quickly, but I practiced with a bolt action .410 and it works pretty well

The developer are actually very aware that the game is not really genuine WWI. One of them says in a video that this is their vision of what the war could have looked like. In the game menu you can actually read about each gun and like he says in this video, a lot were experimental and/or super rare. Great video! The MP18 bayonet looks like it’s something that might’ve been made in the field by some semi-skilled craftsman, its just clamped onto the barrel jacket and tightened with a wingnut, so not based on any real examples but it’s certainly not out of the realm of plausibility
I'd love to see the poor guy be subjected to Counter-Strike: Source

Oh god no, it would kill the man
If you're suggesting CS:S or 1.6 due to the left hand features on virtually all the weapons in the game (IE AK, Scout, and AWM bolts on the left, AR ejection port and forward assist on left), it's simply because all the weapons were modeled and animated from the left side and were mirrored to the right for a more traditional look.

Would be fun with a video like this on the guns used in Hunt: Showdown.
BF1 is a arcade style fps thats happened to be set in ww1. It's trying its best to be historical, but also have fun with the gun selection and attachments. It not like verdun and those games which is trying to be as historic as possible, but its not wolfenstein, which is complete fantasy with a historical setting.
It is not trying it’s best to be historical.
Far from it, many people wanted and expected that from Battlefield but a lot has changed since the days of 1943.
@@theramblinmahoney2316 It did ok at being historical but it tried having fun with it (but I was a little disappointed at how there's a lot of non trench maps)
@@pandathecrusader5658 Tried to have a little too much fun with it.
Yeah honestly, if they cut down on the unnecessary and inaccurate unlocks and instead focused on giving us some hardcore WW1 trench warfare I guarantee people would love the game.
Imagine being forced into melee confrontations in the trenches with groups of others. That would be hell of intense.
@@theramblinmahoney2316 In "accurate" trench warfare there would be snipers and LMGs camping everywhere and you wouldn't be able to step one foot out of your trench before you get shot at. Is it inaccurate? Definitely, but no one plays multiplayer videogames for their historical accuracy, because of how hard it is to make something balanced and fun.
@@advaybajpai7940 That in no way disproves my point. People wanted it to be more realistic then it was. You can attempt to split hairs all you want.
I’d love to see him react to more of the guns from this game, especially the reload animations. As much as they included wacky, prototype weapons in BF1, there’s a lot of realism in how the guns operate compared to most AAA FPS games.

Someone should've shown him the 3rd person reload animation of the Kolibri, the soldier loses the magazine and starts searching on the ground

I love how when you pull out the kolibri, even the main character is like "WTF is this"
remember allot of the gun featured in the game are technically and literally experimental weapons, I think DICE decided to put them into the game as way of thinking "what would happen if WWI did have these weapons in service?" so the weapons are made in prototype sometime before/during the war so they were thinking of how fun it would be
This is exactly what I've been waiting for.
I’d love to see what he thinks about Hotdogs Horseshoes and Handgrenades

what's nice about BF1 is that dice was really good with attention to detail, the british in the game use the bolt as he describes, whereas every other nation doesn't. basically showing that the british have more experience with cycling the bolt of the gun compared to other nations

I can not get enough of this guy and his commentary of guns in games. Genius! Absolute awesome content! :D
Two things to say:
Firstly, I only just noticed now that when the player is reloading the Kolibri and racks the slide that the guy still has his finger on the trigger.

"I like roleplaying as a hapless British soldier who dies a lot"
Vibing with Jonathan on this one. COD and Battlefield games do so much to make you feel like an unstoppable hero, but I want the opposite, to feel like a cog in a machine. That's why I really like Rising Storm 2, everyone has access to the same weapons, but they all feel so different it takes genuine effort to get really good with individual guns.
Please do a Part 2 of this...!!

And he did.

I hope you do a second episode, I really want to know what he says about the Selbstlader 1906
When he mentioned the Ross rifle I heard a deep sigh from every Canadian ever
Games I'd like to see Jonathan review:
-ALL OF THEM
That will be all.
Not saying people can't do it quickly, but I practiced with a bolt action .410 and it works pretty well
i’m just here for the Kolibri ofc
