As I wrote earlier on the Griddle page, this is the model I bought last year as my first griddle. Your experience seasoning looks virtually identical to mine. It was an easy griddle to season because of the heat and size. The hot zones you experience are similar to my own although I added wind guards right away because of the winds we experience here in south Texas. Because of those guards I think my cool zones are maybe a little narrower along the sides. Here’s what I’ve discovered in the year since owning it; large cooks must be staged. By that I mean that sometimes I must cook one or two items and then hold them off the griddle while other items are then cooked. For example, making a large batch of chicken fajitas for 8-10 people. I first cook the chicken, pull it off and hold it in an aluminum pan or even the crock pot on Low, while I cook the onions and peppers. Then when they are almost done I add the chicken back to the griddle, mix all the ingredients to combine and then to the final service tray. Breakfast is similar. Cook the bacon and hash browns, then place them on a warming tray while the rest of the items, such as pancakes or eggs are finished. Then serve. It isn’t hard. It just take a little more planning. I love my little 22” griddle. The extra space on my 36” is nice but not absolutely necessary. I can get by with the smaller one if I have to.
That was my thinking as well...its hard to demonstrate Because in my mind if I was feeding that many people I would have a 36in...I was more going in the direction of smaller portions...when cooking...You would 100 absolutely have to do that for a crowd
Bought this griddle last Christmas and it has been a game changer. I built a cart on wheels and leave it at my cottage all summer long. We bring it home for the winter. Made omelets this morning. Absolutely love this griddle.
We bought the Adventure ready griddle last Christmas. It came with a hinged lid and the adaptor hose and stand. I REALLY love the stand.....all 4 legs are adjustable, so getting it level is really easy. We camp a lot so it's the perfect size for travelling. The front edge has never turned colour, but nothing sticks.....so it's all good.
Great vid - Thanks! - I have a two-year-old 22" BS - Totally LOVE it - The two-zones are everything I need for wifey and I, and the grandkids - I have learned to "use" the hot (and not-so-hot) zones to my advantage, as you alude to. I take it camping too, but at 68 I do find it pretty heavy (I have the stand too!) and need to move it in pieces from my 2nd floor deck to my RV -It works. - Cheers!
I bought a 22” Adventure Ready last year Black Friday. I’ve got a full year now of use and it’s great for my wife and me. I use it 4-5 times every week.
I bought a 36 inch blackstone few years back and love it. But most of the time it's overkill for me and my wife. Last year I bought the 22 Adventure Ready. I use it most of the time due to ease of cleaning and because I can keep it right next to my backdoor while the 36 is further away on my deck. Yesterday, I fired up the 22 for breakfast but later fired up the 36 for a shrimp fried rice cook that we can eat over 3 days. Love having both sizes.
i seasoned my 17" black stone griddle top in my oven just like all my cast iron cookware. i simply put on a very thin layer of grape seed oil heated the oven to 500 F baked the griddle top for an hour repeat 5 times. it worked great. cant wait to see you start using the black stone.
When seasoning in the oven, does it not smoke you out of the house? I'm curious because I think this is the way to go, but my experience with a cast iron pan wasn't very good.
@thewannabees1 in my experience it does smell a little but for me I didn't think it was too bad. I used grape seed oil which has a high smoke point so not as much smoke as vegetable oil. grape seed oil has a very hard finish as well.
Thank you so much the company I work for is getting all the employees a 22 inch Griddle for Christmas I will tell them to join you on TH-cam thank you once again my name is Michael
I use this as a portable grill for tailgating. Fits great in the back of my Jeep Wrangler, with the stand! Cools off quickly, and works perfectly, also recommend the travel bag.
I really like this size griddle for my little family. I bought the one with a side burner, so it isn't as portable as that one, but it works well on a tool cart😊
For my 22” I seasoned in my bbq pit. Lightly oiled the 22 griddle top .. top, back sides, bottom .. thin coat everything .. then high heat with all burners into the bbq at 450+. Placed the 22 into the pit, closed the lid, opening every 3-5 mins .. till smoke was gone and repeat. The sides even the bottom were all an even solid black .. excellent, non sticky, seasoned 22”. So the “cheat” definitely works.
Thanks for the great information!! Am looking at getting the 22 inch Blackstone from Costco. It's just my wife and myself, mostly. Occasionally the kids are over. Excited to try a griddle, to offset the he smoker sometimes. Our daughter has the 36inch, and loves it. Thanks again!! 😊
I’ve had the one burner adventure and I know that the magnetic wind guards are a must have, especially when using 1# bottles to save gas and keep the heat where it’s needed. Just got to use the adapter for bigger bottles for an extended camping trip, that was nice! I keep the bottles in milk crates so they don’t tip over in the truck or around camp.
I do Pellet Grill cooking a lot. I was given this griddle (my first) last Christmas. I have used it in our travels from NE to FL in the winter. Extensive use in FL. Love it. Do I wish I had a larger griddle....of course! The edges do get a bit gummy as time goes on as the edges do not heat up as well. Gonna try your oven way to season it and see if it makes a difference during use. You are a wealth of knowledge. TY.
My patio is between my house and garage, and any little wind is like a wind tunnel through where I set the griddle, so wind guards are a must! Great review! Looking forward to the cheesesteaks!
I got one last year and love it! Another awesome thing isThey make a pizza oven attachment for it you pull the griddle out and drop on the pizza oven and it makes great pizzas!
Glad you got back into the Blackstone, there is a new one coming out as well, full size. I have the Eseries, different animal but like it very much. We are looking at this for the camping, great deal.
The 22", and the 17" fit in my oven. I seasoned them just as a I do my cast iron. Thin coats of avocado, preheated 525° oven, an hour and a half per coat. I did pull them out to wipe with my already oily rag to smooth the seasoning, but it was totally worth it. My 22" lives in my garage all year, and showed zero signs of the seasoning breaking down even after 6 months of sitting.
Thanks Neal for your videos. When we bought our camper, I got the Blackstone Tailgater unit, it cooks good for camping etc. This black Friday I got the 22 inch Blackstone (not the adventure), I seasoned all up and it cooks really nice, I just made smash burgers on it tonight. Eggs flip right nice too.
Got a 22" Blackstone Adventure last Dec. and use it a lot. The one we got came with a hinged cover and a small table, which didn't work out for us. Now just have it on a table on the deck. It works great for the two of us. have tried many of your recipes on it. Seems the temp is a little harder to control than the larger model but so far so good. Cooking Tuna steaks coated with sesame seeds tonight.
WOW , just in time for Santa TOO. Going to check these out real fast cause they won't last on the shelves long. Thanks for sharing this Neil and Amy we appreciate your channels and your honest opinions. Stay safe and keep up the good and fun videos. Fred.
I do have the foreboner and I like it because it has real estate and easy to control temperature. I also have a 2 burner I like it also but it gets really hot even on the low a quarter I'm a load of course I use both burners.
I have used the 22” adventure ready blackstone with the adventure folding stand for 2 years now. We take it camping, racing and vacationing all the time. I cook for anywhere from 2 to 12 people with it. Breakfast and dinner. The only complaint I have is the gas line for the propane tank needs a 90” or move the threaded connection the back because it is in the way when I use the magnet to hold my spatulas.
Just picked up one also for Black Friday as well! Super stoked to use it for camping. You should go on a camping trip and show the viewers your setup and your procedure for cooking out there! Great video as always.
I use the 22" Blackstone Adventure Ready griddle as well when we are camping in our RV. As I'm typing this out, I realized mine came with the folding-legs (and adjustable) stand which has worked out nice. But if you don't need a stand, yours in this video would be ideal. Yours has the cover while mine has the hood. Not sure it matters much (hood vs cover) since I rarely cook with the hood down (maybe if it's raining). Anyways, great video thanks man!
I’m digging that new smaller griddle. I’ve been flirting with the notion of getting 1, for fishing/camping. Also my boys are in their mid 20’s, and there are some nights where it’s just the wifey and I having dinner. No point in breaking out the 4 burner for a 15 min cook for 2 🤔. I typically use my Weber Jumbo Smokey Joe, but I like the thought of a smaller griddle that I can get’r done quick with a propane griddle.Solid looking hardware my guy. Can’t wait to see the cooks on this 1. lol, I just might sway me to actually go get 1. Cheers Y’all 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
I own this in a different model. Take it camping and use it occasionally at home. Mine came with a canvas cover from Sams for $99 a couple of years ago. My grease catch hangs off the grill top and can be a pain. Its small but I made pancakes for 19 people last year for the wifes birthday. We're about to move and I'll have an actual outdoor kitchen and will be upgrading to a 4 burner.
Got mine this year as well to take on vacations to cook. Can't wait to season mine and get to cooking. Mine is still in the box. I'm curious about how hot it gets under the griddle to see if it is possible to use on my trucks tailgate without messing up the bed liner.
That is something im not sure yet...but...We seasoned this for about an hour almost on high and was on my wood cutting board and it was not hot...the exterior on the sides I would worry about more...if its centered...I would do it...maybe a piece of wood underneath to help with evenness as well plus protecting the truck bread
@@TheFlatTopKing Heck yeah!! I am so looking forward to see what 'Que That can do to food; perhaps in the new smoker I am getting. Thanks for all that you do Neal!
Really nice review on that Blackstone 22 inch Adventure Ready griddle Neal! Nice seasoning ideas and tips. Is the usable or just a cover? Looking forward to the maiden voyage cheese steak cook! Cheers brother!
Yeah its just one of those thim metal things...says do dont used when on....but I think you could close just for a quick min to help melt cheese or something
Hey Neal. Could you send a suggestion to Blackstone for the portable griddles to have height adjustable feet? This looks like a great camping griddle, but almost zero picnic tables are level.
I can...someone actually commented on this video that they have the stand that mathes and it actually has legs as you suggest...if that helps faster...just relaying info...
In case you didn’t already know, when you go to a big box store and do the propane swap you’re not getting a full tank. It’s usually 15#. Buy a tank and get it filled at a U-haul or Ace Hardware.
From what I can tell they are out...but keep checking Walmart...maybe they will come back...just not sure...I just checked before pressing enter...still out of stock
New to Blackstone as got Adventurer 22 for Christmas. Non- Orange. Thought your bread test was genius for determining the cook area, What was the brand and size of the bread? Would like to do the same. Thanks.
I bought one last spring (2023) and used it several times. The problem I experienced is the griddle warped bad...especially when hot it would get worse. mho
Great Vid!! I have owned adventure 22 since before the summer. I feel I’ve grown and learned cooking on it. Hot spots made sense mines exactly the same! I also cook with large tank that was a No brainer since I use it on my deck. I love the cover. Works great when it’s windy or for melting cheese. I cook with it down atleast couple times during any cook. Neil I was wondering I noticed you didn’t have your cover fastened in the back? Was it just because you never got to that point or was there a special reason why you didn’t do it? Take care you two!! I am going to re-season mine in the summer next year and I will definitely be putting it in the oven that is an incredible pointer.
Unless im crazy which is very high chance..this hood does not hinge..its just hangs.. the hooks on the back allow to hang...there was not instructions or bolts for the hood
Great content and so detailed, enjoy your instructions. Hey I am just in process of seasoning my 22" and would like to finish off in oven. How many times did you oil then put in oven for the hour? And did you let it completely cool down before putting back into oven? thanks
I ended with 7 light coats using the griddle burners and then I decided why not just use my webber grill outside to keep the smell outside as it is just like oven. I did two coats and yes let it cool enough to handle. Turned out perfectly. Thanks
New sub here , just bought the regular 22 inch , and tried using the 1lb tanks , and every one of those frost up fast and performance goes down , any tips ?? Read elsewhere that the large btu output of these griddles, the 1lb tank can't keep up (science problem) And they freeze up , thanks , great channel u have
Neil , good video. My friend ! I have a question : do you know about how long a one pound propane tank would last , I know it depends on if you cook on low , medium , or high . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
The only "WHY?" I'm asking is why are there so many color variations of Blackstone's 22". I just bought one 3 days ago from Academy and it doesn't look at all like this in regards to colors.
To me, that looks very poorly engineered. It's small and the whole front and back don't seem to heat up. I bought the 22" electric. We use it when we go out (rv) but I have also placed it on top of my induction range and used it inside the house when it's too cold to use the full size outdoor one.
im not sure how to comment....this griddle is literally less than 100...it was on sale for 97 dollars...that less than a full tank of diesel for me...it just is what it is...crazy thing all my Blackstones have had the same experience ....same exact hot spots etc..for 100 im not really worried about this like i am others....

I am going to re-season mine in the summer next year and I will definitely be putting it in the oven that is an incredible pointer.
Michell You did not warp your cover when putting over the griddle? What are you doing about wind guards?
Unless im crazy which is very high chance..this hood does not hinge..its just hangs.. the hooks on the back allow to hang...there was not instructions or bolts for the hood
Just purchased mine , Walmart has them on sale for $124.99 for yhe holiday weekend im out of los Angeles ca
Great content and so detailed, enjoy your instructions. Hey I am just in process of seasoning my 22" and would like to finish off in oven. How many times did you oil then put in oven for the hour? And did you let it completely cool down before putting back into oven? thanks
thanks for asking..i did two coats...let cool between and did 475 for 1 hour
I ended with 7 light coats using the griddle burners and then I decided why not just use my webber grill outside to keep the smell outside as it is just like oven. I did two coats and yes let it cool enough to handle. Turned out perfectly. Thanks
New sub here , just bought the regular 22 inch , and tried using the 1lb tanks , and every one of those frost up fast and performance goes down , any tips ?? Read elsewhere that the large btu output of these griddles, the 1lb tank can't keep up (science problem)
And they freeze up , thanks , great channel u have
Unfortunately I dont have any experience with em...I immediately bought the hose and had bigger tanks available from other griddles...
Neil , good video. My friend ! I have a question : do you know about how long a one pound propane tank would last , I know it depends on if you cook on low , medium , or high . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
as of now I do not...just got it and have not actually used a small one yet
I did mine in the oven years ago, it worked out great
Almost bought one of these myself for tailgating and such. What happened to the top of your front panel? Shipping damage? Nice vid!
Yeah I would think so...is cosmentic...so typically they say nothing they will do...I dont feel like fighting with customer support...
@@TheFlatTopKingblackstone support is excellent. they take a little bit to get back you.
Got one last week (bf) what exactly are those wind gadgets? I want to buy some.
Dollar Tree dough cutters
Ok, thanks
Excellent! Do it!
Always towards your buddy never towards yourself with the blade
How much is the propane per gallon at Costco? I fill mine at tractor supply at $3.19 per gallon currently so it is $12-15 to fill it.
I will know soon...its been a while..
Go ahead and season the bottom also. No one leaves the bottom of skillets unseasoned and they get flame constantly.
The only "WHY?" I'm asking is why are there so many color variations of Blackstone's 22". I just bought one 3 days ago from Academy and it doesn't look at all like this in regards to colors.
What is your new channel?
Oh I found it...cool!
GBO!
GBO
Just put it over wood fire pit to season
Just put it in the oven...hahaha more people have and oven than fire pit...
1 pound tank from Walmart is $10.00.
WOW...expensive for sure...i was at Academy today looking around...5.99 for a 16oz bottle...
It was Walmart in Jacksonville FL about 2 weeks ago. Need them for my 17 in. Blackstone for camping
