- Landon Ricketts was a former famous gunslinger during the height of the Old American West, and stories of his adventures and fights were commonplace during John Marston's childhood. He appeared in many gunfights including one where he killed the Butcher Brothers in 1896 and the infamous Blackwater Massacre of 1899. The massacre was apparently part of the reason Ricketts chose to move to Chuparosa, sometime after a gunfight in eastern California in 1902, for a more "quiet" lifestyle. Landon also had a wife who died from unknown causes. As an experienced gunman, he serves the people of the town as an unofficial lawman or vigilante.

It's crazy to think about when Landon said he was One of the last of the well known Gunslingers,you have to stop and think about how Arthur killed a chunk of them in 1899.
Yeah but some of the gunslingers weren’t truly as bad ass as they claimed. Landon was the real deal. Boy Calloway was a fraud who shot people in the back. Belle says Calloway ran from most fights. Granger was also kind of a coward who went into witness protection or whatever to become a pig farmer. Billy Midnight was a drunk and kind of paranoid or insane or something and he tries to run from you instead of facing you. Midnight got famous from killing another gunslinger but it’s revealed in the mission he shot the guy in his sleep, probably why he’s called midnight. So really the only two badass gunslingers in that side mission were Flacco and Black Belle. Flacco was a true bandit and Black Belle was a true killer. And Black Belle lives on.

Landon Ricketts was my favourite character in Red Dead Redemption. He was a living legend, the last of his kind, he had nothing left but stories and wisdom.
He is one of the best voiced characters in a video game, he stole every scene because his voice was so calm and commanding.
RIP Ross Hagen, your voice made Landon Ricketts so iconic and I hope that if Landon Ricketts appears in Red Dead Redemption II Rockstar make sure to do the character justice.
A short while after I posted this comment Rockstar released a feature on Red Dead Redemption II's Frontier, Cities and Towns where they revealed that one of the snow capped mountains is named Mount Hagen which I'm assuming is a reference to Ross Hagen, good to know Rockstar hasn't forgotten one of their most iconic characters.

That first scene Could easily be the start of the game. It just explains Johns character at that point so well, extremely well mannered in control, trying to be a better, more peaceful man, but still with rage and hatred to the world that never wanted him and almost actively antagonized him.
Or the scene where Ross says Abigail died and he slowly pulls out his revolver and points it at him.
That scene is really good it represents the world.They are fucking with you and you are running out of patience coz of the bastards and you just beat them up or shoot them and then you are the bad guy.Something like bulies in school or something.

The entire Mexico act felt like an entire new game. Hell, most of the characters from New Austin stopped being relevant here and even Irish, the guy that literally brings you to Mexico, disappears completely lol

Rickets isn't one of the last gunslingers alive because he was the fastest. It's because he was one of the few who was actually as deadly as people said he was, Arthur killed the last of the liars and idiots.

I'd say Black Belle and Flaco were dangerous enough, Midnight wasn't a bad shot, it's mentioned that he'd won tourneys and duels, however paranoia and old age got to him, Boy calloway is by far the fastest of them all. You can take a look at his Bio on the WIKI, he's so fast that you almost have to cheat to win the duel against him at the epilogue of "The Noblest of All Men and a Woman".
So i'd say they were decent, Ranking them would be along the lines of :
5-Emmet Granger.
4- Midnight.
3- Flaco.
2- Black Belle.
1- Jim Boy.

@@Conwayfan98I've commented this so many times! Landon in 1870s with California during gold rush as new map Seattle in the north and new Austin in the south and Mexico accessible in epilogue where you play as an older Landon in the 1900s before the events of rdr 1.

This man was the embodiment of the Old West in this game. His death was symbolic of the old ways offically coming to an end.

Everyone Knew of Marston. He was the last of Dutch's gang. I can only imagine that in Rockstar's USA that Dutch, John, Javier and Bill would have been almost like Billy The Kid and John Dillinger among others. They would have been living legends. Hell Arthur Morgan would be Jesse James and Micah Bell would be Robert Ford. Plus Landon is the last of the true "Gunfighter" justice seeking cowboys. Everyone after Landon was just a part of the Pinkerton's and the G-Men.
Does anyone else notice that Landon Rickets' outfit that he's wearing in this game looks identical to the one that John Marston wears through the majority of Red Dead Redemption 2? I think that maybe this was was a intention design choice as a way to honor the voice actor for Landon Rickets who passed away back in 2011.

it could be likely. r* pay a meticulous amount of attention to detail, and there’s a saying in the creative industry- mis-en-scene, which means that anything chosen for a production was probably there for a reason.

Edit: Apparently the voice actor passed away. I think either Sam Elliot or Peter Weller would be a good voice to use for Landon.

I was playing rdr 2, and found a cigarette card with a gang on it. It was Landon’s former gang, his name was on the back of the card.

One thing RDR 1 did much bettee in my opinion was the overall music.
Rdr 2 has absolutely great music in certain missions, but rdr 1 had constand thematic scores in the overall qorld that was heavily leaned on okd Clint eastwood movies and created a unique emersion as if you partake in such a movie
Rdr2 felt more "Realistic" due to its lack of thematic overworld music but at least in my opinion its something i do miss.

I actually think for RDR 3 we may play as Landon as we have already covered the fall of Dutch's gang and seeing it's rise doesn't feel that interesting I would much rather see a completely new story seperated from John and Arthur maybe going back to a more wild time.
Well actually playing as Rickets would be a great way to cover what Dutch and the gang were up to prior red dead 2. He was there at the blackwater job maybe that could be like the last chapter of the game.

Alright, imagine this “A young and arrogant Landon Rickets seeks fame and fortune as a gunslinger. He tracks down a famous gunslinger who has a high bounty on his head, an inexperienced Landon decides to go after him, for the fame he’ll receive when he kills the gunslinger, and the money he’ll get when he collects the bounty. Landon locates the gunslinger and challenges him to duel. Landon loses easily and is left for dead. That is until a mysterious man with a strange revolver saves him and decides to take him under his wing.
The game follows Landon and the man’s adventures while searching for the gunslinger and collecting the bounty, while also running into a young Jim “Boy” Calloway, Black Belle, Billy Midnight, and Falco Hernandez all the while Landon learns what it means to be a true gunslinger. When Landon asks about the man’s strange revolver, the man reveals himself to be Red Harlow, the legendary bounty hunter. Just then, the gunslinger Landon was chasing after shows up and challenges Red Harlow. Red declines and turns his back on the gunslinger, who shoots him in the back. Landon mourns Red and buries him, taking his scorpion revolver and decides to track down the gunslinger.
Landon catches up with the gunslinger and challenges him once again, this time Landon prevails and wins the duel. When a local sheriff shows up and offers Landon the bounty, Landon declines and turns his back, walking away before saying, “It never was about the money.”

Gunslinger: Don't turn your back on me! *He holsters his revolver*
Red kept walking...
The gunslinger fires his gun in Red's back, making him fall onto the ground...
Gunslinger laughs as he holsters his revolver and gets on his horse and rides off...
I really hope we see Ricketts in some form in RDR2

One of Jack's random dialogue while in combat in RDR1 has him saying "My Pa knew Landon Ricketts, friend!".
Considering that John at no point told Jack about his adventures with Landon, the only way Jack could have known that is if he heard it from Landon Ricketts himself. Chances are, the reason Jack became as skilled at gunslinging as John was in just a few years is because he was trained by Landon who likely felt sorry about John's unjust murder and decided to train Jack even if it means driving Jack into a life of killing that Landon went through.
Makes sense because one second Jack's gunplay is shotty at best only because hes John's son and rode with the gang from birth, he couldn't have been as good as he is in the epilogue without any sort of training, so rickett would be the only likely candidate
Does nobody read the newspapers in the game? If you buy one after John's death and start playing as Jack there's an article detailing Landon's death which was dated to be a few days before the government attacked Breecher's Hope to get John.
Or he just told him during the brief time they were living in their homestead
@@leoncoben6983 no it was a week before the mission remember my family when Jack kills Edgar Ross. That’s Landon’s death date. According to the wiki.
RIP Ross Hagen. You can tell they really wanted him to be in the third game. So many references.
The why Landon looks directly into the camera, breaks the 4th wall and winks when he calls the Mexican Standoff (in Mexico, no less) an 'impasse' is great and it bothers me that so many seem to miss it. 12:30

I like that in RDR2, Arthur actually knew who Landon was, though since Arthur was a bit of a gunslinger himself, it makes sense he'd know about the great shooters of his time.
I mean just about everyone knew who Landon Ricketts was. You didn't have to be a gunslinger to hear about gunslingers you know

Great character and well-acted by Ross Hagen. Hard-boiled, yet melancholy, he’s seen and done everything, twice. He really adds life to the Mexico chapters.
I love how Landon just outright roasts John for the way he handles the gun the first time around, when John literally destroyed Micah’s entire army years ago 😂

Once I would have said he would have stayed within the law, or more likely had positive honor, but there is talk of him being involved in the Blackwater Massacre and that's the reason he fled to Mexico for years, so that's all up in the air.
Although, in his youth the influence of the law would have been no where near what it is during Arthur's time. Far less lawmen around. Self defense would definitely been the main form of... well... of defense. Mile after mile of prime lawless bandit territory.
I'd label Ricketts as a sort of 'protection for hire' kind of guy. Pay him and his guns are yours, whoever you may be. One day he could ride in to a ranch with a band of outlaws and rob them blind and the next he could be offering the ranchers protection for a price.

@@2KXMKR That does sound like him. He doesn't seem the type to have been a full-fledged outlaw. Though, of I remember correctly, he killed the Butcher Brothers in the Blackwater Massacre, so probably not wanted for that.
Plus if he was, he would've been facing charges upon returning to America.
I figured bounty hunter would be a strong possibility, considering what he said to John about his hunting Bill and Javier.
"There must be a high bounty on their heads. Can I ask how much?"
Perhaps interested in a cut if he helps out.
"I must've been the fastest, I'm the only one left" haha depending on who you do the mission as Landon is looking at the man who outgunned the rest of them.
Wouldn't mind a third Redeption game, with Landon Rickets as main protagonist. No Van der Linde, this time. New cast, set a couple of decades before RDR2, leading up to the Blackwater Massacre and Landon's move to Mexico.
That'd be a great way to see the massacre, almost perfectly connecting w rdr2

The mexico and landon rickets missions were my absolute favourites
One thing that makes John a badass is he doesn't immediately spring for the violent route when confronted by the Mexican bandits, he tries to defuse and de-escalate before resorting to violence as his last resort.

Landon Rickets was Clint Eastwood of RDR 1 great supporting character on game.
Red dead 2 was a master piece but I always find myself going back to the first one, nothing beats this

These performances really illustrate how ahead of its time RDR was. There are hardly any games from this time period that delivered characters as convincing and realistic as RDR.
