    I've watched several tenkara set up videos. This is by far the best.

    If you pass the tippet through the loop twice and then tighten, you get a very secure attachment without having to tie a knot in your lillian. (Knot in Lillian will prevent you from being able to fully disassemble your rod)

      This is great feedback too. I don’t disassemble any of my rods much unless sections break or I am winter fishing but that’s great you have a system that works for you! 😃

    Awesome video, man! I consider myself a semi-expert and still learned a few things. I think the best part was "That's the right way to do it. As long as it's working for you." Lots of people forget that.
    I have broken my tip trying to tie the Lillian knot or tie the level line onto the Lillian. The best trick I found is to pull the Lillian almost all the way out (enough to work with) then put the plug back in so the tip of the rod isn't exposed at all.

      Thanks Kyle! You are a pro in my book my friend. That’s a very practical approach as well.
      Thank you for the kind words !

    Your instruction videos are superb. Where were you when I started using Tenkara rods for smallmouth in rivers, creeks. and streams back in 2011? 👍

      Haha just graduating high school with zero interest in fishing but I am here now to serve! 😇

    There are multiple ways to set up level line but this is what I found to be the easiest method. It only requires two knots!

    Today is the first time I heard about tenkara fishing. Never heard of anyone fishing tenkara in Sweden. Wondering what line to have? Thanks for the interesting video.

    • @skiddyfishing

      Great question. We call this line “level line”. It’s the same diameter and doesn’t taper so it’s meant to be your casting backbone. You can usually buy 30-50 meter spools and cut it to length and it’s typically a high visual color like neon orange or yellow.
      The particular level line in this video is sold by Wasatch Tenkara and they call it chameleon level line because it’s basically camouflage. Though I prefer the bright colors and fish don’t seem to know the difference.

    • @skiddyfishing

      Thanks friend! I would advise a longer fast action rod like this Siyco or Wasatch Tenkara Rodzilla with the spey handle!
      I am not sure about tippet. I would imagine 3x-1x!

  • @dragonflyjoyride

    Thanks Skiddy! Do you use the same knot for the fly to tippet?

    • @skiddyfishing

      I use the same knot I learned when tying rapalas to my spinning rod line. It works for me but really any knot that’s secure should be fine. Totally your preference :)

    Hey Skiddy - wondering if the slipknot technique would work on traditional line as well? I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

    • @skiddyfishing

      It would. There are some forums that converted the test strength of level line to standard flouro line. I want to say it’s 15-20lb test but I can’t say for sure!

  • @Since-80s

    what if you cant manage the slip knot, i genuinely dont seem to have the manual dexterity

    • @skiddyfishing

      The slip knot a staple in tenkara. I would recommend making your loop larger at the start to combat that problem. Then as you get more comfortable you can go smaller.

  • @Roccopaul73

    I can tighten and loosen but when I pull it completely apart their is still a small knot created by the two loops 🤔

    • @skiddyfishing

      If done correctly the knot should just slip out if pulled apart. However I rarely pull it apart regardless and store the line on the Nirvana pucks. Theoretically even with your issue, as long as it’s tightening and loosening on the lilian with only your effort, there isn’t much to worry about even with that issue.
