Welcome to Skiddy Fishing friend! I am passionate about our native trout and char of the west! Watch me tackle various slams, challenges, and strive to meet and greet native fish from all over. I do enjoy western fly fishing but tenkara and fixed line rods bring me closer to native trout than other methods of fishing! I occasionally dip into multi-species and ice fishing. Whether it's sub zero temps, or high mountain headwater trout country, you will see Skiddy fish year round!

TN Provo First Impressions #keiryu #tenkara
This is a collaboration video with Keiryu Rod Co. I am not an affiliate of this brand but I have claimed this rod to demo and test it for my channel. I do not have an affiliate link but you can find the link to the product directly below!
www.keiryurodco.com/shoprods/p/tn-provo-rod
Keiryu is the type of rod I start to think about when people say tenkara is like euro/contact nymphing. Another comparison to tenkara is a cane pole. I find that the backbone of Keiryu rod and it's intended purpose fits this personality perfectly. Whether you want to throw some bait on your line (if your rivers allow) or work with split shots, double nymphs, indicators, etc... I think the TN Provo is a great rod for these setups and particularly savvy for tailwater fishing..

This is not a sponsored video for Moonlit Fly Fishing. I just really enjoy their rods and preach their value. This adventure takes me back to Summer 2024 on a river I have fished a few times but never had I fished that far up. Sometimes it's nice to explore familiar waters until you discover something new.

Tough Creek Fishing With @KevinRapkochFishing
มุมมอง 40121 วันที่ผ่านมา
Kevin came up from Arizona to celebrate the New Year in the Salt Lake area. We talked about the Provo River but I offered a little slice of where I like to fish. It was a gamble due to it being winter conditions and naturally the fishing was tough as a result. However we were able to grind out a few fish and then Kevin found some great luck in the reservoir above the creek. You can see his POV ...

My (current) Top 6 Tenkara Rods #tenkara
I have fished Keiryu rods all winter on the Provo getting great drifts and presentations in spots most can’t reach even in low water with all sorts of rigs and droppers. I am able to land the 18-22s with 4x tippet. I’m going to Chile and am hoping to land a sea run brown down there over next 6 weeks.
Good session on the Provo.
I almost landed a steelhead on my TN Provo. It popped off as I was handlining it in
Handlining is a brave feat. I commend you for that but feel heartbroken for the loss 😩
Nice video. I love my TN Provo and have had lots of success with it,. I have never fished it with an indicator, but I do use the nymphing line and love it. It easily fishes nymphs as small as size 20 (I use 5.5x tippett). Again, nice video and thanks for taking us along!
Thank you for your valued time friend! More catches to come!
@@skiddyfishing Love it! I usually fish farther down the Provo than you were. I like the faster pocket water near Nuns Park, or Canyon Glen. That rod really shines down there. There are some places where a 11 foot rod is more appropriate, but in the stretches that allow enough room for that 16 footer, it is a MONSTER!
@nails0401 I appreciate the spot tip! Maybe ill try that sooner than later! 🥹
Traditional Keiryu fishing is with live bait, light line and a small weight. Line always shorter than the rod. They put out a great product. I have the Inyo and love it, I have taken many large rainbows with it in fast water, and it has a great flex profile for contact nymphing. If you have the casting room a keiryu is great and offers a long reach. Nice fish BTW.
Thank you! I find them very well made myself. I actually prefer them to the long length Tenkara rods ideally built for similar styles. I also have the T100 and the Ansel in my arsenal and am particularly excited for the Ansel come spring!
sincere comment: i love watching indicators with these KRC rods (I have the T100 may need the Provo!)
I appreciate your comment and I am a sucker for them too!!! Ill be back to the middle Provo River next.
I have the T100. Haven't had a chance to get it out on the water yet.
@@karl5633 it’s such a fun rod. i’ve caught piggy smallmouth bass with it. talk about a chaotic fight!
@mvsc-k5e I can only imagine 😂😂
@karl5633 same here! 🙌
Thanks Skiddy! Way to brave the elements man!. In all seriousness, thanks for taking our rod out. We're stoked that the Provo came through with a few - especially that gorgeous brown (next time, get that fly knot tied and get your 3rd!! :) ). We're also impressed that you used 6X tippet, we usually don't do that with the Provo, so that was cool to see. For those interested, the TN Provo weighs 5.3 oz, without the plug. Tight Lines!!
Thanks for tuning in Dave! It’s a pleasure to have your valued time watch it and there are more and possibly warmer adventures to come!
Nice day, great water and good to be out fishing for awhile and enjoy the day too.Enjoyed the trip, tight lines and greetings from NZ,, Tony.
The Provo River has two tailwater sections. The middle section is ideally perfect for this rod but winter weather has held me back from that experience. I plan to make a follow up trip with this rod there along with the T100.
Really cool video again. i am hitting a small stream in the mountains here tomorrow. Should be interesting.
That is one of my personal favorite rivers. It’s so amazing to fish with a tenkara rod.
Great trip to the Uintas. Looks like my kind of adventure. Nice job on your catches. Some of those smaller ponds produce some monsters. They are always worth checking. Well done. Can't wait until backpacking season again. Take care and have a great day.
sup big dawg
Lol Chaos?
@@skiddyfishing lmao yeah!-- BC
😂😂he’s the only person that calls me big dawg so that was the first one I thought of. How ya been? 😇
Really good, heard you're coming kinda close! 😁 How are you doing?
@ looking to plan for that! Good myself. Fishing is slow with winter but waiting for those warm summer days.
What month was this video filmed in?
I want to say June
Great looking fish. Nice stream.
Can't even hear what he says...
That’s entirely possibly maybe perhaps to some degree in some ways without a doubt and meticulously timed with current facts present, the entire point of the video. 😩
Prettiest browns around!
Nice video! What mic are you using?
Just a GoPro11
@skiddyfishing even in the opening shot? It sounds good is the reason I'm asking.
@@matthewenglish5oh thank you! That’s actually my Iphone 13 😂
do you have any shorter glass rods? I fish a similar sized river in eastern Washington called the Millcreek and my 6'6" 3wt is my go to for it. I fish the same river with my kaida/ mutant it feels like a new river every time i choose a new rod! great video with a ton of healthy looking fish, cheers!
Thanks buddy! I have a 2wt glass 6’6” and I love it!!!! I totally get what you’re saying. What kind of fish are in Millcreek?
@skiddyfishing they're all rainbow except, of you're lucky you can occasionally get a red band, real gems, all sub 12" with the bulk being 8-11".
@509bunnyhaven I love that! Yea that 2wt loves 5-7” trout but that 4wt is a workhorse! 💪
@@skiddyfishing this guy gets it! I use my glass 4wt more than any other rod! You're a man of refined taste, hats off to ya!
@@509bunnyhaven likewise amigo! ☺️ 🎣
Nice little creek, beautiful water and a few very nice fish landed too. Thanks, thumbs up too with greetings from NzZ, Tony.
I'm laughing at the Tenkara casting with a western fly-rod. Why? Because I make the same mistake on the back-cast due to my preference for Tenkara. I do love both approaches however! You have entertained me.
😂😂😂 so guilty 🙋♂️. I am happy I don’t often trout set but can still strip set. It’s a weird balance going back and forth! Thanks for the kind words. 😇😇
Awesome video, brother. Love fishing those logjams!! 🤙🤙✌️🎣
Always a creek banana 🍌 in those jams! 🎣 💪
Enjoyed the Video... waiting not very patiently for the first sunny 50 degree day to arrive to get on some water here in Northern Utah.
Yea my winter blues went harrrrrd this year. I feel your pain! Fortunately it looks like a mild winter so maybe those 50s are coming sooner this year. Thanks for watching friend!
Nice video and great little creek. I will be spending some more time this year myself with a western rod and reel on small creeks after being gifted a dream combo by a client
What is your dream combo? Id love to hear it! This Moonlit rod is so fun and it’s a sister company to Dragontail Tenkara so win/win! 🥹
@@skiddyfishingOrvis Helios F 4wt 8’6” with a beautiful Lamson Remix
@@blueridgeflyguy9551 Oh man that is a banger of a combo. I have heard only great things on the Helios. Very pricey so I would have high expectations. As for Lamson...no better reel in the market in my humble opinion for the money. Plus they're based in Idaho so kind of local to me. I have two of their 3 pack kits with interchangeable lines. I know you and I are mostly tenkara enthusiasts but it really is so fun to switch it up and just swing the lines occasionally. Western fly fishing is a skill I never want to lose even though I have fished that particular creek with a tenkara rod more.
Taking it back to a warmer summer day in 2024! Sometimes exploring the same creek in new spots is a great idea 💡
Awesome catch. What lake?
Henry’s Lake.
@@skiddyfishing sweet
Ive fished the hane for 4 years. Love it. Now I have this one ukiyo but havent used it yet. Lookin forward to real soon
I don’t have the Hane anymore because of the Ukiyo haha.
What were you using?
Honestly this was sooo long ago but I am pretty sure I fished a pink Berkley Atomic teaser.
Looks like a splake
Kind of…but splake have forked fails so that would be an obvious feature. Also there is a transparent stocking history of brook trout to this lake with the state record being recorded here.
👍👍Top 3 for sure!
Not a doubt in my mind 😈
Wow, wild or stocked. Typically need to up to Labrador for wild brookies of that size, congrats!
These fish are stocked as fingerlings. Last stocking was probably 2019; most of them being 3 inches. The waters are super rich in nutrients. It’s known for big fish in general. 🥹
That was a beautiful catch, awesome, enjoyed the trip and thumbs up too from NZ,, Tony.
Thank you Tony! I am sure you have some beautiful brooks in NZ too perhaps? That was a fun fight.
Yep, looks like Henry’s. Look at that sky! Nice fish!
It was a good fish to reminisce on for the drive home. It would be fun to get a fixed line rod on this lake with how shallow it is. :)
holy crap, congrats skiddy
Thanks buddy! :)
This was easily a top 3 fish of 2024 for me! If you would like to see all the fish I caught on this trip, the link is in the description.
Very cool review. Thank you so much
You are so welcome! This one is outdated and I need to make a new one soon!
@@skiddyfishing I have the Nissin Kawashi 36 professional and its really great. I also have 2 "Temu" rods. Both from Goture. The 6 foot version is excellent. The 11 footer is actually 10 foot 6 and very stiff. The tip came out when I pulled the lillian... Not a great start..lol. I went night fishing two days ago with my Tenkara for bass (Its mid summer here in Cape Town). I hooked two giant bass and lost both... The first one might even have been a carp. I did see the second one. It jumped a few times... 8pounds or more. Oh well....Can't wait to get back on the small streams here for trout.
@@skiddyfishing Its very expensive to get American or Japanese Tenkara rods here in South Africa...

Thanks Kevin! 🤙
I want to go see if there are any meadow creeks like that up in skyline drive that have fish.
There are two I can think of but id like to explore more!
Hmmm.. I think I know the first creek.
I think you do too 😈
haha, I think it’s like the second video where that same first spot is shown. For some reason I love starting right there.
Honestly, fishing a creek like this would be a dream come True, any tips for finding these?
Nice catch man!! 🎉
Thank you! 🙏
Wow those tiger trout look amazing...
They’re definitely special! :)
That looks like an amazing stream. Greetings from sonny Cape Town...
Thank you friend! Take care and stay safe! 🙏
what size nymph?

Man! I would've loved to join the both of you! We still need to get out together
You're brave for even getting out and fishing! Nice video
Haha thanks man! I takes a lot to hold me back!
What fly were you using?
Probably an adams fly knowing me this year.
Beautiful scenery with the snowy background.
As tough as it can fish, it’s beautiful regardless! I do enjoy winter scenery! 😃
Winter and you were out and caught fish. That’s a winning combination all the way around. Happy new year
