Mine and putt a roll pAn in the rear instead of the old bumper. And get wide rear tires get 2 sundown audio 3000 watssrms subs. Super deep exhaust harley style lol
Wow, working on vans is really tough, no space. I commend you for even having the balls to attempt that swap yourself. You must be an asc master tech or something
That has to be one hell of a sleeper, nice ride brother. Kinda reminds me of a newer version of the A team van. Black with a big red stripe would be cool, but then it wouldn't be a sleeper.
So I'm leaning more and more to replace engine and transmission with 283 small block and power glide from like the 60's. My assumption is I won't need the stupid computer at all. That sound right?
Hey how much camshaft do you have in the engine? It looks like you're using the factory TBI. Who made your TBI chip? And from all the research I've done you can't use a cam bigger than around 212 @ .050, with TBI. It's pretty tough to make 375HP with a cam that small and factory TBI. I know you said it's all roller so I assume it's a hyd. roller cam and that would help out greatly on the vacuum signal for the TBI. I'd appreciate any info you could pass along. I'm putting a small block 400 in my 94 astro. I know my engine has too much cam in it now and I'd like to get it right the first time when I buy a new one. Thanks for posting the video
I can't remember who did the chip offhand. My cam is a COMP Cams Magnum Hydraulic Roller Camshafts, duration 260/ 260, Lift .500/ .500 She sports a 50MM TBI these days and the cam IS a bit much. Still learning how to dial it in. (I have the OBD1 tuning equipment)
Can't go wrong with a 350 small block, that's a great engine. I see it has the tipical crappy chevy paint job on it, Why does the Chevy paint alway get screwed up like that? I don't get it. Any way, good luck bro.
@Evo10Rocks If I keep my boot out of it?..Almost the same as the 4.3, the V-8 just loafs along...I estimate 18 city and 20 highway...but that just a guess.
I bought mine from an outfit called "racecrafters" I don't know if they are still around or not. Also, you can check out "Astro/Safari.com" and see if anyone there has some for sale. There's a V-8 section on that webpage.
i have about 500,000+ miles on my astro with same engine only 1 blown piston one time thats the most but i was wondering if i take it to chevy will that go on a book of records or sumthing its a 92 still runs great just not good on gas mileage or will they feel sorry for me having a really old astro an give me a new car !!!! maybe a camaro now im dreaming big lol i wish
@dafrogtoad Yup the 4.3. Well I just got the usual in case my car breaks down! and thats about it... and No not really I dont have a heavy foot. It does have 200,XXX miles on it already idk if that has anything to do....
@mrpicky510 Nope, not at all..Just VERY stubborn. It's actually a very easy swap..would have been the easiest I had ever done if it had not been for the computer tuning crap.
@mike184ever1 Check out the "v-8 swap" section of astrosafaridotcom...Mine is a 94 350 which used the same wiring as the 4.3 with a V-8 computer chip in teh stock computer. There's some fine people on AstroSafari..I think you'll do well to start there. (BTW film your swap!..I wish I had a video camera back when i did mine.) Good luck to you! and thanks for watching!

Go for it!
Thats a MAN'S van brother!! GOOD luck on the contest!

I have a 2000 GMC Safari van. What size V8 can I put in there and still be alright.
Check out Astro/safari.com. I have heard of big block reporters, they used a lift kit and it fit under there.

by the way great job with your van
Thanks.

That sound right?
The computer does control a lot of things. Make sure you don't get blindsided by one..
@dafrogtoad
No bro, I was talking about the paint on the hood, not the engine.
nice rig buddy, i have 4 vans right now and love em! take it easy, pete

would I be able to do this with my 1987 GMC Safari?
+Dan Jack-son Yes, they are essentially the same vehicle.

@dafrogtoad: I have a 2000 cargo and want to swap in a 5.3 what are guys doing for the computer

i had 1981 Z28 with 454 bolted right in dealership said not possible
+Peter DeCarlo Dealerships rarely will even TALK about swaps like that. I think they're afraid that someone will sue them.
What site u get the mounts from? I have a 98 safari 2wd

Around $2700, mostly new engine and transmission.
What about MPG???
i have about 500,000+ miles on my astro with same engine only 1 blown piston one time thats the most but i was wondering if i take it to chevy will that go on a book of records or sumthing its a 92 still runs great just not good on gas mileage or will they feel sorry for me having a really old astro an give me a new car !!!! maybe a camaro now im dreaming big lol i wish
@gunnwild1 Sigh..I painted it that color so I could easily see any leaks. Kinda tight up in there ya see..:)
@dafrogtoad Yup the 4.3. Well I just got the usual in case my car breaks down!

@MasterTechRepair Probably not a record, but still pretty darn good...Thanks for watching.
@jdmelite Never said I was the first. Glad you have an even faster one. Good for you.
@ImRamro Hehe..yeah..I'll keep mine quieter..but I would take the load of mini-14's
@Evo10Rocks With the 4.3?...that ain't good......Hope you can find the trouble...Unless yer carrying a LOT of crap and drive it hard..
@Evo10Rocks Yeah..maybe it's gettin tired..
@dafrogtoad Really I got the V6 I get about 14.9 MPG
@petermohlman You da van-man..we only have 2.
If that van is a rockin, it 's because it has a V8 under the hood.
@imgaryk Hehe..especially if the damn computer's a bit off...sputter-sputter...
@MrDeleon9999 Thanks D
@generalgene007 Thanks Gene
Respond to this video...Yessir!
Wow...they should have told you that it wouldn't fit before you wasted all that time installing it! LOL
It fit, it drove, we had fun. Now that engine sits, pickled on a pallet, for the next project..LOL
